In den gemäßigten Breiten zeigte

der letzten Jahrzehnte
insbesondere im Winter und im
zeitigen Frühjahr. Dementsprechend
traten Veränderungen in
der Phänologie, dem zeitlichen
Verlauf von Populations- und
Entwicklungsprozessen von Organismen
(z. B. Zeitpunkt der
Knospung bei Pflanzen oder der
Laichperiode bei Fischen), vor
allem im Frühjahr auf. Obwohl
generell eine frühere und beschleunigte
Entwicklung als
Reaktion auf die Erwärmung
beobachtet wurde, zeigten sich
doch Unterschiede in der Sensitivität
von Organismen. Dadurch
kann es in Nahrungsnetzen
zu Match- oder Mismatch-
Situationen in Räuber-Beute
Beziehungen kommen. Am
Beispiel der komplexen Interaktionen
im Nahrungsnetz der
Talsperre Saidenbach wird der
Einfluss verschiedener Erwärmungsszenarien
auf Schlüsselorganismen
und deren Interaktionen
im Nahrungsnetz und
letztlich auf die Wassergüte in
dieser Trinkwassertalsperre im
Rahmen des DFG-Schwerpunktprogramms
AQUASHIFT

FOOD NETWORK: ARCHITECTURE OF CONNECTION IN THE LOWER NINTH WARDSchraefel, Michael 18 March 2014 (has links)
In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans with widespread flooding and infrastructural damage. The Lower Ninth Ward has since experienced a slow recovery from the catastrophic flooding it endured. Among the various physical, social, and economic challenges still facing the neighbourhood, this thesis identifies the community’s subsequent social disintegration following Katrina, and its continuing challenged access to nutritious food as primary arguments for a food hub co-operative in the center of the neighbourhood.
The power of the co-operative lies in the collectivization of social, physical, and financial assets of the currently fractured community. The food “hub” then becomes the heart of the neighborhood, facilitating social ownership, renewed purpose and responsibility, and financial empowerment. At an urban scale the centrally located food hub anchors an expansive food network, enabling a city ward currently devoid of collective means to get back on its feet.

Local Food Networks and the Power of CommunityNunez, Lucia 01 January 2015 (has links)
Local food networks (LFNs) have engendered a great deal of debate in the food justice community; scholars and activists are dubious about the potential of LFNs to contribute to the subversion of the very hierarchies of privilege that created the need for the food justice movement. Using a case study of the Claremont, California area local food network, I operationalize a definition of LFNs, defining them by the people, activities, and exchanges involved in the local food network. I provide a grounded view of these three facets of the Claremont area local food network to analyze the extent to which the network both perpetuates and subverts hierarchies of privilege. About 40 ethnographic interviews with key players in the Claremont area local food network show that the network is a patchwork of identities, values, goals, methods, interactions, and outcomes. The subversion and perpetuation of hierarchies of privilege occur simultaneously in nearly every part of the local food network, and the network has potential to enhance the subversive aspects to work towards a larger political challenge.

Alternativa livsmedelsnätverk - utmaningar och möjligheter : En studie av REKO-Ringar i Jönköpings län, som bidrar till hållbarhet / Alternative Food Networks challenges and opportunities : A study of REKO-Rings in Jönköping County, contributing to sustainabilityWang, Hongning, Zhang, Haotian January 2022 (has links)
Purpose – This study aims to explore the challenges and opportunities faced by the REKO-Rings as a form of alternative food networks (AFNs). By exploring the challenges faced by producers and consumers in participating in REKO-Rings, this study will ultimately identify several opportunities and potential solutions to help Jönköping County develop AFNs. Method – This study uses case studies as the methodology. Literature review, interviews, observations, and questionnaires are used as the research methods. Triangulation is used in the empirical study and combined with qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Findings – The study shows that the literature contributed twelve challenges, of which the empirical data confirmed eleven challenges and identified six challenges that are not mentioned in the literature. The challenges faced by producers are market demand, logistics and operations, knowledge and skills, policy, animals and nature, financial statements and individual consumers and yield. Consumers' challenges include price, trust, skills, time and geography, privacy, order tracking, pandemic, and product packaging. Finally, seven challenges provide opportunities to develop REKO-Rings, namely market demand, logistics and operation, knowledge and skill (for the producer), policy, price, skill (for the customer), and time. Implications – The study contributes to theoretical research on the subject because the results update the theoretical progress and identify new challenges for the participation of REKO-Rings. This study also contributes to developing business for producers and improving the shopping experience for consumers participating in REKO-Rings. The study also provides managerial implications as the results are fed back to the interviewed administrators and project publishers to support managers in creating targeted strategies. Limitations – The study is limited to Jönköping County and focused on one form of alternative food network: REKO-Rings.

Sustainable Rural Development Through Alternative Economic Networks: Redefining Relations in the Commodity Chain For Export Vegetables In Western GuatemalaKlotz, Ryan J 11 July 2012 (has links)
The current research considers the capacity of a local organic food system for producer and consumer empowerment and sustainable development outcomes in western Guatemala. Many have argued that the forging of local agricultural networks linking farmers, consumers, and supporting institutions is an effective tool for challenging the negative economic, environmental, and sociopolitical impacts associated with industrial models of global food production. But does this work in the context of agrarian development in the developing world? Despite the fact that there is extensive literature concerning local food system formation in the global north, there remains a paucity of research covering how the principles of local food systems are being integrated into agricultural development projects in developing countries. My work critically examines claims to agricultural sustainability and actor empowerment in a local organic food system built around non-traditional agricultural crops in western Guatemala. Employing a mixed methods research design involving twenty months of participant observation, in-depth interviewing, surveying, and a self-administered questionnaire, the project evaluates the sustainability of this NGO-led development initiative and local food movement along several dimensions. Focusing on the unique economic and social networks of actors and institutions at each stage of the commodity chain, this research shows how the growth of an alternative food system continues to be shaped by context specific processes, politics, and structures of conventional food systems. Further, it shows how the specifics of context also produce new relationships of cooperation and power in the development process. Results indicate that structures surrounding agrarian development in the Guatemalan context give rise to a hybrid form of development that at the same time contests and reinforces conventional models of food production and consumption. Therefore, participation entails a host of compromises and tradeoffs that result in mixed successes and setbacks, as actors attempt to refashion conventional commodity chains through local food system formation.

A produção e o comércio de alimentos orgânicos mostram-se como um mercado em desenvolvimento, e esse se apresenta como alternativa agrícola com menores externalidades negativas. No entanto, há algum tempo já é indicado um processo de convencionalização que o aproxima de práticas de mercado que ameaçam essa capacidade de preservação do ambiente. Nesse processo aparece a venda através de grandes varejistas. Como alternativa surgem diferentes formas de distribuição de alimentos e a possibilidade de alcançar maiores benefícios para a sociedade e o ambiente. Uma delas é a venda em domicílio através de esquemas de cestas, uma variante em que consumidores adquirem semanalmente uma cesta de produtos orgânicos padronizada, através de meios eletrônicos. Utilizando o arcabouço teórico proposto na Sociologia Econômica, vou investigar através dos empresários, funcionários e consumidores que formam essa rede, os interesses, as relações e sua estrutura para responder como essa nova forma de comércio se enraíza socialmente na cidade de São Paulo. Através de entrevistas realizadas a partir de um roteiro semi-estruturado, é possível entender que o novo canal se estabelece a partir do desejo de consumir alimentos orgânicos. Uma falha de mercado representada pela disponibilidade e qualidade precária na rede convencional e outras formas alternativas, os leva a experimentar esse novo canal. A capacidade de abandonar o hábito de compra convencional (ver, tocar, avaliar) dá lugar a um relacionamento com terceiros que se incubem de escolher por esses consumidores a qualidade dos alimentos que serão levados para casa. Lentamente as trocas comerciais se expandem a sinais de reciprocidade, fortalecendo a confiança. Eventualmente o compartilhamento de valores possibilita influenciar os interesses dos consumidores e torná-los mais conscientes. / The production and trade of organic food are defining a growing market and presenting an alternative supposed to cause less negative externalities. Nevertheless, a conventionalization process has been identified some time ago, what takes it closer to market practices that threat its capacity to preserve the environment. Sales through large retailers is part of this process. As options, different ways to distribute food emerge and represent the possibility to reach more benefits to society and environment. One of them is the home delivery of boxes containing fresh food, the box-schemes. It consists of weekly acquisition of a standard set of organic goods through electronic media. Utilizing the theoretical framework proposed by the Economic Sociology, I have investigated with owners, employees and consumers that are part of this social network, the interests, relationships and structures to answer how this new retail format gets socially embedded in Sao Paulo city. Through interviews based on a semi-structured script, it is possible to understand that this new channel is established from the desire to consume organic food. A market failure that causes poor distribution and quality in conventional network drives them to look for alternatives and try this new channel. The capacity to abandon the conventional buying habitus (see, touch, assess) opens space to establish a new tie with people that will choose the quality of the food to be delivered to their homes. Slowly, commercial exchange expands to reciprocity signals and strengthen trust up to a possible redistribution system. Eventually, values sharing makes possible to influence consumers and make them more conscious.
