Une scripta occitane dans la Navarre médiévale (XIII-XIV siècles) : formation et fonctionnement / An occitan scripta in the kingdom of Navarre in the Middle Ages (XIII-XVI siècles) : formation and functioning

Grangé, Louis 01 December 2012 (has links)
In the districts of peninsular Navarre during the XIIIth and XIVth centuries appeared an Occitan scripta whose use was linked to the settlement of Francos, a population with special privileges and coming from the north of the Pyrenees. The development of this language outside Occitan territory gave it characteristics immediately recognizable, and although it keeps features connected to Languedoc, it shares particularities with other varieties of the diasystem, Catalan included, as well as it borrows some from Navarro-Romance in contact with which it has evolved. Les francos dans la vallée de l'Ebre ( XIeme-XIIe siècles) / The francos in the Ebro valley (11th-12th centuries)

Giunta, Alexandre 20 June 2015 (has links)
In the 11th and 12th centuries, populations from the other side of the Pyrenees came to settle down in the north Iberian peninsula. The Ebro valley was welcoming area for these men whose sources and historiography called francos. This topic has been studied by Marcelin Défourneaux in a famous book: Les Français en Espagne aux XIe-XIIe siècles (1949). Sixty years later, the evolution of the ressearch justifies this work. The first difficulty will be to define francos. With regard to sources, this terme denotes as well the free person as that the one coming from the north of the Pyrenees. The dynamics of exchange were determined to a large extent, though informally, by knights, churchmen, merchants, craftsmen, pilgrims and others travellers. The kings of Aragon and Navarre entrusted some migrants with the running of territories and goods. We will discuss this migration and analyze the steps of this process and the conditions on which it had been achieved. Migration from the North intensified in the eleventh and the twelfth centuries, when pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela became a mass movement. We shall emphasize its role before discussing what was at stake in the transpyrenean relationships, the settlement ofterritories conquered by Christians and the war against the Muslims. Thanks to onomastics, we will consider the presence of foreigners in the towns and its relations with the local communities. With the migration of francos to Aragon and Navarre, a change took place in that region’s approach to architectural and artistic tradition.

In the fifth century, the Western Roman Empire disaggregated, giving place to various Germanic kingdoms. One of the main concerns of the rulers of these regni was the legitimating of their power, that is, to make their authority was recognized by the nobility and the population in general. This task showed itself challenging because of the following motives: first of all, these kingdoms were formed in locals that were, for centuries, ruled by Rome, and so the ways and symbols of imperial origin could not be ignored. Besides, most of these kingdoms suffered from a chronic internal instability. Moreover, there is the presence of the Eastern Roman Empire that, under Justinian, retook considerable areas of the Western Mediterranean. Due to this difficulties, the barbarian kings turned around to the Church, aiming a spiritual legitimacy to their power. The bishops saw the king as a powerful ally in their fight against the paganism and the heresies. Thereby, there was an approaching between king and episcopate, in which the bishops became important legitimators of the monarch s authority. In the present dissertation, we will study the episcopal conceptions about the king and his functions in the works of two bishops: Gregory of Tours (538-594) and Isidore of Seville (560-636), who lived, respectively in Merovingian Gaul and in the catholic Visigothic Kingdom

A paz e o recurso à violência no Reino dos Francos: os mecanismos de resolução de conflito no período  merovíngio (séculos VI - VII) / Peace and the use of violence in the Kingdom of Francs: mechanisms of conflict resolution in the Merovingian period (centuries VI - VII)

Milton Mazetto Junior 07 April 2009 (has links)
The Master\'s dissertation entitled \"Peace and the use of violence in the Kingdom of Francs: mechanisms of conflict resolution in the Merovingian period (centuries VI - VII)\" has as its main object the question of the character of the forms of conflict resolution in the Merovingian period: public, result of the action of an authority concerned with the groups of that society. The fundament of that problem lies in the different interpretations, present in the historiography, of the role of the royal power in the conflict resolution. Some studies, related with the anthropology of law, outpoint that the royalty didn\'t has the means to control the disputes and the violence, whose were controlled by the feud. Other works, indicate that the Merovingian king was the sole responsible for the end of disputes, through the institution of law codes and the delegation of judiciary power to a body of functionaries. This distinction in the studies were caused by the distinct interpretations of, by one side, the meaning of the violence in the narrative of the \'Decem libri historiarum\' of Gregory of Tours, and, by another, the nature of thses sources, guided by the most recent researches in the field, and the investigation of the canons of the councils and the \'formulae Andecavenses\', to position himself critically within the discussion of the both conceptions of Merovingian royal power.
