Munters, Fredrik January 2023 (has links)
In this master’s degree thesis potential utilization of excess heat on Gotland is investigated. The report first identifies potential sources and users of excess heat and creates seasonal heat profiles for a few of them. The heat profiles are then matched and studied from technical, economic, and environmental perspectives to provide a comprehensive understanding of the investigated cases. The study reveals that large scale refrigeration systems and greenhouses, data centers and greenhouses, and electrolysers and ultra-pure water purification processes could potentially benefit from synergies created by excess heat utilization. However, challenges such as mismatched heat profiles and the risk of investments in excess heat capture technology may hinder such collaborations.

Distribuerat generiskt ramverk för simultan textredigering via HTTP(S)/JSON

Granqvist, David January 2011 (has links)

This study was conducted in one of the world´s highest competitive market, which is the banking sector. <i>Im Westen nichts Neues</i> and <i>Johnny Got His Gun</i>: The Success of the First World War Anti-War Novel through Controversy and Depictions of Pain

Morrissey, Stephanie 01 August 2011 (has links)
Literature, films, and even the daily news often address war, an event that unfortunately has been a constant in modern society. Large scale, modern warfare with global involvement began with the First World War, and following the war, a global war literature boom occurred. Two bestselling novels whose anti-war themes still resound today, Im Westen nichts Neues (All Quiet on the Western Front) by Erich Maria Remarque and Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo, emerged from this sea of literature. Both of these novels focus on the pain that is inherent in warfare and its detrimental effects on society as well as on individual soldiers. The graphic imagery and anti-war sentiment that is present in these novels has generated controversy throughout their histories; however, the popularity of both works has prevailed, and Remarque and Trumbo’s novels remain two of the most referenced in academic disciplines as well as in popular culture. This thesis explores the long-lasting success of these two works as anti-war novels, as measured by initial sales and popularity as well as by a plethora of mass cultural adaptations.

We have to trust them, but they must also know... : A corpus-based investigation of the core modal must and the emerging modals have to and have got to in newspapers and social media by Swedes

Rilling, Teresa January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine to what extent Swedish writers, who write in English, use the modals must, have to and have got to. The hypothesis being tested argues that the core modal must is not being challenged by the emerging modals have to and have got to in this non-native variety of English. The objective of this thesis is to be accomplished by attempting to answer the following research questions: 1) What is the frequency and usage of the English modals must, have to and have got to in the material? 2) How do the frequencies in the Swedish material compare with the frequencies in the British and American corpora and to the previous studies? 3) How do the Swedish writers use the modals with regard to epistemic and deontic meaning? The study is corpus based, and the corpora used consist of Swedish newspapers in English (SWENC) and material from blogs and tweets which are written in English by Swedes (SESMC). These are compared with the press sub-corpora in BE06 (the British 2006 corpus of CQP web at Lancaster) and in AE06 (the American 2006 corpus of CQP web at Lancaster), which represent British and American native varieties of English. The method is quantitative and the results are presented after the process of normalization. The results show that must, have to and have got to are used in SWENC and SESMC although, to greatly varying degrees. The core modal must is more frequently used in the Swedish corpus than in the British and American sub-corpora. The emerging modal have to is used more frequently than must in all three corpora. The second emerging modal have got to is very seldomly used. Additionally, a qualitative examination of the modals and their meanings reveal that the writers in SWENC and SESMC use the older modal must alongside the newer have to and newest modal have got to, but with a preference for a toned-down style of language. The conclusion drawn is that the core modal must is indeed being challenged by the emerging modal have to even in the non-native variety of English.
