O vztahu pokory a pýchy / About the Relationship of Humility and Pride

Smetana, Pavel January 2015 (has links)
This thesis deals with the research of humility from the view of its elusiveness - it does not define humility and it also does not even try to do so. Conversely, it walks around the phenomenon of humility and points at it in different ways. It uses examples, mostly from works of Comenius, and builds it with parallels from works of Jung, Foucault, Jünger, Drewermann and some other authors. It delimits humility against pride at example of different view of "epoché" in works of Comenius and Descartes; pride is basicly seen where human does not leave any unnaturalness and completely absorbs the world by his own opinion; work also uses Husserl's criticism of Descartes' view of "epoché" and Comenius' criticism of Machiavelli is also mentioned. Thence, the thesis sees the principle of humility in a close relation with the principle of faith or simply with the knowledge of the principle of some higher instance than the human's own sense is. The principle of humility is also nearby to the principle of grace - for this example the thesis researches Simone Weil's concept of "weight and grace"; grace from this point of view is an unpredictable step outside the performance-based part of human life. This thesis deals with mentioned phenomenons at first at the level of the visions of the world, later at the...

Áronské požehnání / The Aaronic Blessing

Svoboda, Boris January 2014 (has links)
SVOBODA, Boris: The Priestly Blessing. [Master thesis] / Boris Svoboda. - Charles University in Prague. Hussite Theological Faculty; - Supervisor: Doc. Mgr. Jiří Beneš, Th.D. - Degree: Master. - Prague: HTF UK, 2014. 65 p. This thesis deals with the exposition of the textual unit of The Aaronic Blessing from The Book of Numbers, chapter 6, verses 22-27. Its aim is to characterize theological meaning of the textual unit and also to provide insight into the meaning of the phenomenon of blessing in The Old Testament. Reach of this theological reflexion surpasses the scope of Old Testament judaism and provides an impulses also for the christian theology, for usage and developing of blessing in its context. Results of the exegesis can present knowledge about understanding of blessing not only in its original context, but also in the understanding of contemporary society. Blessing gives strong impulses for personal lives, but it is also connected with the issues of whole society and with approaching the goal of peace and the status of world, in which will of God is implemented.

Nogueira, Bruna Franco January 2018 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Introduction: Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) in patients presenting without persistent ST-segment elevation (NSTE-ACS) represent a large amount of hospitalizations, morbidity and mortality around the world. Several researches suggest that risk scores are important tools in NSTE-ACS patients management and its improvement is primordial. Literature has shown a correlation between muscle strength, cardiovascular risk factors and death. It is well known that handgrip strength (HGS) is an easily applicable indicator of general muscular strength, but it is poorly studied in the context of ACS. Hypothesis: Handgrip strength measurement would be a good cardiovascular risk predictor and can be incorporated into the GRACE risk score for the patients with NSTE-ACS. Objective: To analyze whether the incorporation of HGS into GRACE risk score, by the score GRACE/HGS, improves its performance in risk predicting of combined outcome death, recurrence of angina or myocardial infarction, stroke and re-hospitalization in 30 days after hospital admission in patients with NSTE-ACS. Methods: This is a prospective and observational study that includes patients admitted with NSTE-ACS in Cardiologic Emergency Unit and in Coronary Intensive Care Unit of our institution aged over 18 years, for 6 months. In admission, GRACE risk score was calculated and HGS was measured within 72 hours of admission. Uni and multivariate analyses were done and ROC curve was built. Significant p value adopted was 5%. For a better understanding of the subject we decided to approach fundamental issues issues such as : what is evil, the reason of evil, its origen and mainly the meaning of evil and its suffering in relation to one s free will. Appealing to specialized bibliography, other concepts are seen essential for the understanding of this subject like: grace, freedom, divine prescience, will, love and so on. Basically all the answers about the issue of evil envolve directly or indirectly a reflection about God, in other words everything about evil envolves human suffering, and one of the strong points regarding modern atheism is why do I suffer? Where is God? Well, looking precisely through this prespective that is, approaching the issue of evil together with the issue of God arises the legitimaly and necessity to conceive and defend a right concept of as being almighty googd and fair / Uma vez que o objetivo deste trabalho monográfico é apresentar reflexões sobre a questão do problema do mal, para melhor compreensão do tema decidimos abordar questões fundamentais, tais como: o que é o mal, porque o mal, qual a sua origem e, principalmente, qual o sentido do mal e do sofrimento em relação ao livre-arbítrio.

A visualização do invisível: beleza e mística em Santo Agostinho / The visualization of the invisible: beauty and mystic in Saint Augustine

That is Via Puchritudinis, the path of beauty, which is a mystic as much as an aesthetic way. The focus of this task is the aesthetic side of this journey, which becomes evident by the assertion made by Hans Urs von Balthasar on his aesthetic theology treatise called Glória. For him, Augustine s trajectory, especially his conversion, cannot be considered a walk from aesthetics to religious , but a conversion from a common aesthetic to another superior one (Balthasar, 1986, p. 97). Because, for Augustine, contemplating the beauty of the world and creation represents the first step of a trajectory toward an even more keenly discerning contemplation of God s beauty, from which creation s beauty is just a vestige. But when he identifies the absolute transcendent God with beauty, by the affirmation: Late have I loved You, Beauty so ancient and so new, late have I loved Thee! , Augustine makes this journey in a mystical way, in which history (God s action fulfilled by Jesus Christ) and prophecy (Scripture and His messengers) represents the two main pillars. Thus, we will also tackle Augustine s Via Pulchritudinis mystical side, in proportion to its relationship with the principal concept of this dissertation, which is, beauty. We understand that this concept of beauty, just as it was thought by Augustine, may be relevant to the present time, whereas the notion of beauty, nowadays, seems to have left behind all its transcendent aspects to shut itself up just in what is imanent, that is, body and matter / Nesta dissertação pretendemos analisar o caminho proposto, e percorrido, por Santo Agostinho em direção à visualização do Deus invisível.

We consider the precepts laid down in Council of Trent and their influence in the process of Portuguese colonization, and remember that this period is marked by the ideas of the Renaissance and Enlightenment movements. By monitoring the administrative and pastoral concerns of the bishops, both in Portugal and in the colony, we realize that the ecclesiastical patronage system represented an obstacle to the action of themselves at dioceses. The character of animosity in relations between Church authorities and representatives of the Crown in the captaincy, especially in the middle of the eighteenth century show that the submission of religious power in the face of ecclesiastical patronage system was not full.

Niebuhr, John Gresham Machen, and T. M. Moore`s categorizations. It presents, in these categories of reactions to culture, the transformationist or conversionist point of view as the one to be preferred in this relationship. It identifies the reformer John Calvin as the main exponent and referential of conversionism. The key to the interpretation of the relationship of Christianity and culture is located in the doctrine of common grace. The dissertation draws attention to the heirs of Calvin`s thought, especially Abraham Kuyper, who was the main responsible for the popularization of the doctrine. It also considers the controversy involving the Christian Reformed Church due to internal disagreements around the doctrine of Common Grace. It concludes by demonstrating the theological formula that present-day Calvinists have articulated Concerning this doctrine, reasserting it as the best way to see the relationship of Christianity and culture.

De Linage, Caroline 09 September 2008 (has links) (PDF)

The Heart's Portrait: An Emily Dickinson Fascicle for SATB Choir and String Quartet

Bottoni, Jennifer C. 01 January 2009 (has links)
The Heart's Portrait is a twelve movement composition for SATB choir and string quartet. The eight poems selected as the text for this work were penned by the eminent American poet Emily Dickinson. The text for the first movement, Dickinson's poem "If I can stop one Heart from breaking," succinctly describes the themes she commonly expounded upon in her writings: life, love, aching, pain, and purpose through faith. The remaining seven poems were chosen because they also explore these elemental themes. The main poem returns in variation throughout the piece, resulting in a modified rondo. To complement the four-part consort of voices, I selected a consort of strings in the form of a string quartet. The role of the quartet varies throughout the work from subservient to the vocal part, to dominant of the entire texture, to an equal partnership with the voices; these relationships are dictated by the text. Throughout the movements, I was able to explore a range of compositional techniques, both traditional and contemporary, while maintaining the primary purpose of unifying the text and music. This paper illustrates the initial compositional decisions made to begin the piece, the texts chosen and their placement within the work, the poet's history as it relates to the composition, a brief discussion on composers who have set Dickinson's words, and a thorough analysis of the work itself.
