Mnohorozměrné modely zobecněné autoregresní podmíněné heteroskedasticity / Multivariate generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity models

Nováková, Martina January 2021 (has links)
This master thesis deals with extension of the univariate GARCH model to multivari- ate models. We present individual models and deal with methods of their estimation. Then we describe some statistical tests for diagnosting the models. We have programmed in the statistical software R one of them - the Ling-Li test. Afterwards we apply selected models to real data of stock market index S&P 500, stock market index Russell 2000 and stocks of crude oil. For the GO-GARCH model, we compare all available estimation methods and show their differences. Then we compare the results of all models with each other and also with univariate models in terms of estimates of conditional variances, estimates of conditional correlations and also in terms of computational complexity. 1

The inefficiency of open-loop fMRI experiments

Norfleet, David George 29 June 2023 (has links)
The default mode network (DMN) is a highly cited neural network whose functional roles are not well understood. Until recently, event related fMRI experiments used to study the DMN could only be conducted in an open-loop format. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the potential statistical advantages of real-time fMRI studies to conduct closed-loop experiments to directly test putative DMN functions. Using both fMRI simulations and large archival datasets, we demonstrate that open-loop designs are less statistically powerful than closed-loop experiments that can trigger stimuli at controlled levels of brain activity. When simulating event scheduling on resting state data, DMN levels were normally distributed, but the event timing proved to be ineffective in capturing the highest and lowest DMN values on average across subjects. Statistical differences in DMN levels collected by the Human Connectome Project-Aging (HCP-A) during a Go/NoGo task were also reported, along with the network's distributional effects across subjects. When examining DMN levels in 136 subjects more prone to commission errors the mean DMN levels were reported to be higher during and prior to incorrect NoGo responses. Exploring DMN levels in these same individuals reacting to a Go task also revealed differing measurement patterns when compared to all 711 subjects in the study. Additionally, the distribution of total DMN levels across all participants, as well as during a Go or NoGo trial, showed a shift in the mean towards deactivation. Furthermore, the peak at this location was greater and revealed that increased sampling occurred at the mean and under sampling at the tails. Overall, the cumulative findings in this study were successful in providing statistical arguments to support propositions for more powerful closed-loop experimentation in fMRI. / Master of Science / Activity in a neural network is observed through the use of functional MRI (fMRI) by tracking higher levels of oxygenated blood to that region when active and lower quantities when inactive. Neural networks vary in their responsibilities, thus fMRI tasks are designed to trigger a response based on the functional role of the network. This can be exemplified by studying the blood flow to default mode network (DMN), a network responsible for mind wandering, during a task that requires focus. Researchers can then correlate moments of high activity, which indicates a greater degree of mind wandering, or low activity to a correct or incorrect response to the task. Unfortunately, the timing in which a task is presented to the participant is predetermined prior to the subject entering the MRI making it difficult to capture a correct or incorrect response at the precise moment of activation or deactivation. This concept is known as open-loop and often collects data at moments of neutral activity, neither high nor low. In contrast, a closed-loop design allows a researcher to monitor the DMN's activation levels in real time and present the task at a desired time. This provides more useful data to the experimenter as all recorded responses to the task correlate with exact moments of high and low activation. This makes claims about the neural network's role statistically more powerful as there is a greater quantity of data at these moments rather than during a neutral activation state. The purpose of this thesis is to provide statistical arguments that support propositions for more powerful closed-loop experimentation in fMRI.

Mikrotjänster med Quarkus och Gin : En jämförelsestudie ur ett prestandaperspektiv / Microservices with Quarkus and Gin : A comparative performance study

Nilsson, Adrian January 2023 (has links)

Familiar agriculture is understood as segment where the property and the work are on to the family, and, these possess proper cultural aspects crossed of generation the generation, forming its territorial identities. Thus, the familiar agriculturists possess, still, a territorial identity cultivated by subjective the objective and incorporeal bases material constituted, from the relations established with the territory and the culture through the values, traditions, beliefs and customs. From 1970 with the modernization of agriculture the difficulties of this group if had aggravated how much the conditions of insertion in the market, access the public politics among others, process that occurred in all domestic territory. In this direction, it is considered to understand the main quarrels on familiar agriculture and territory, being detached the sociocultural, economic and organizacional behavior of the communities Cruzeiro dos Martírios and Paulistas in the city of Catalão, State of Goiás. For the accomplishment the theoretical research on the thematic one was made. The empirical research was carried through in the communities: a) the community Cruzeiro dos Martírios, being applied a total of 15 scripts of interview with the agricultural producers, what it represented a sample of 20,27%; b) community Paulistas, being applied 11 scripts of interview with the producers, what it represented a sample of 32,35%. One became, still, comments in the carried through sociocultural events in the communities (terços, religious parties). It was verified, that the identity of the familiar agriculturists of the communities Cruzeiro dos Martírios and Paulistas is constituted from the material and incorporeal bases, being in dynamics, that is, in a process of historical construction. In both the communities the aging of the population caused for the migration of young for the city in search of study and the job and, also, for the fall in the fecundidade tax was observed. In these communities it is noticed masculinização of the population due the selective migration, that is, greater exit of young of the feminine sex. These factors can compromise the hereditary succession of the properties.

The consumption s acceleration provided by the globalization, the constant technology s breakthrough, the cultural industry and the tourism are some of the factors that alter the craftwork in so far as that appear risks of objects padronization and consequent change on its meaning and sense. Considering those suppositions, the market and production analisation, in other words, the craftwork in the and for the market having as focus what was showed on the Hippie and Cerrado markets in Goiânia, recovering its organizational net. The pieces production is constantly influenced by the television and by the fashion s tendency. But due to specifics contexts, as comercialization s place and public that buy the pieces, we notice that the crafwork brings up some modifications in each market studied. The research is justified by the need of geographic production that are about these activity, in spite of its relevance, seeing that, ordinarily, even in the short distance s trips, there are no one that don t buy a little present or don t admire the skill of someone who produces such or what object when go around the markets.

Lecturers' perceptions on the value of the experience of completing a teaching portfolio

Grace, Elaine Lydia 01 1900 (has links)
A teaching portfolio allows lecturers to track their own growth and development in teaching and learning, as it helps to document their career’s journey. This study gained insight into this experience from the lecturers’ perspectives. The research paradigm was qualitative and the study used a sample of lecturers from an independent tertiary institution in Johannesburg. Personal interviews provided rich data and themes were developed from the data to answer the research questions concerning the value of doing a teaching portfolio. Lecturers’ perceptions provided clear evidence of the value of doing a teaching portfolio, because it developed their personal competence, knowledge, skills and higher-order thinking. However, the findings showed that the success of a teaching portfolio remained dependent on individual motivation and how the process was implemented. Any challenges experienced tended to negatively affect motivation, thereby decreasing the perceived value of a teaching portfolio. This study recommended that a teaching portfolio might offer a solution to some of the current education issues within the South Africa context, especially with regard to the lack of content knowledge and the disempowerment of teachers. / Photefolio ya go ruta e kgontša bafahloši go latišiša kgolo le tšwetšopele tše e lego tša bona ka go goruta le go ithuta, ka ge e thuša go rekhota leeto la mošomo wa bona. The role of philosophy and the philosophical in information science

McGuirk, Karin 11 1900 (has links)
The importance of philosophy and the philosophical is not on the lips of many library and information science practitioners and scholars, even though pervasive in information science theory and practice. This investigation focusses on the relationship between information science, philosophy and the philosophical thinking attitude revealed through theoretical and practical concerns. This includes theory generation arising from the philosophical in exploring the role of philosophy and the philosophical. It takes into account perceived problems in recognising, accepting and rejecting the role of philosophical approaches and the impact in determining the nature and the theoretical and practical aspects of information science. The problem posed by not recognising philosophical approaches, is that the benefits of philosophical thought cannot be drawn on to understand how knowledge, information and its communication manifest through language and language expression. Three pathways are used in order to reveal philosophy and the philosophical in information science, the connection between information retrieval and language, and philosophical thinking attitudes at theoretical and practical levels. The value of the study lies in contributing towards knowledge and awareness of the effect of philosophical theories on problems seen as central research areas in information science and its domains. The methodological approach gives preference to the comparative and pluralistic epistemology of a journey. The study examines Peter Ingwersen’s cognitive perspective and information retrieval interaction, David Blair’s treatment of information retrieval with natural language as primary concern, and Fanie de Beer’s contribution on the inventive act of reading and knowledge organisation, as representative figures. It is argued that information science cannot avoid philosophy in its different manifestations. By understanding how philosophy manifests in information science, such as the role of philosophy revealed through language and information retrieval, an opportunity is offered to reconsider the discipline’s interdisciplinary nature in the existing scholarly and societal environment, and the contribution of its historical development to the assumptions and philosophies underlying the discipline. A further empirical study on how philosophy and the philosophical are embedded in information science research is recommended. It could investigate the influence of philosophy on decisions made by South African universities to redesign information science research and study programmes. An evaluation of the effectiveness of the integrated tutor model in open and distance learning: a case of Unisa

Ntuli, Cynthia Hlekwase Smangele 06 1900 (has links)
Abstracts in English, Zulu and Sotho / The provision of education through an open and distance learning (ODL) mode calls for institutions of higher learning to provide support services that can respond to students’ needs and expectations, and impact positively on their learning experiences. Tutorial support is one of the pillars of student support services which contribute to the academic success of students in this academic context. The use of technology has led institutions of higher learning to change the way support is provided to students by integrating online learning to reach students who cannot attend traditional face-to-face (F2F) tutorials at a specified time and venue. The University of South Africa (Unisa) responds to these global changes by integrating F2F and online services to support its students through the integrated tutor model (ITM) which seeks to address the learning needs and expectations of students. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this ITM. The study was guided by a social constructivist theory of learning supported by connectivism, empathy theory and Salmon’s five stage model of e-learning. The fundamental theory of social constructivism is based on the assumption that learning is constructed in a social setting before individuals engage with knowledge. The experiences of individuals play a big role in the construction of knowledge hence it is crucial to acknowledge their prior knowledge. Students who are supported through the ITM in the six Unisa regional service centres and the Unisa staff involved in the implementation of the ITM participated in the study. A purposive sampling technique was used to select these participants. A random sampling technique was also used to sample students to complete a questionnaire. Qualitative data were collected through individual and focus group interviews and documents analysis. The findings of this study reveal that the ITM is not quite ffective as it partly meets the students’ needs and does not meet students’ expectations. This is because Unisa offers students’ needs such as F2F and online tutor support for some modules. However, students’ expectations in terms of receiving teaching by tutors, provision of assignment aswers to students, fully fledged resource provision in the learning centres and receiving technical support from tutors are not met. In light of the findings, the study contributes to the ITM by identifying and filling its gaps using the Context, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) model of evaluation. The improvements will assist Unisa to relook at the ITM to intensify its support for students to fully meet their needs and expectations. / Uhlelo lokuhlinzeka ngemfundo olusebenzisa uhlelo oluvulekile nohlelo lokufunda ukude (ODL) linxusa amaziko emfundo aphakeme ukuthi anikeze anikeze izinsiza ezixhasayo ezingabhekana nezidingo nezinhloso ezilindelwe kubafundi kanti futhi zinomthelela omuhle ohlelweni lwabo lokufunda. Uxhaso lweThuthoriyali ngolunye lwezinsika zemisebenzi yokuxhasa abafundi olunegalelo kwimpumelelo yabafundi kwezemfundo kulesi sizinda sezemfundo. Ukusetshenziswa kobuchepheshe sekuholele amaziko emfundo ephakeme ukuba aguqule indlela abafundi abaxhaswa ngayo – ngokuhlanganisa uhlelo lokufunda nge-inthanedi ukufinyelela abafundi abangeke bakwazi ukuya kumathuthoriyali okuhlangana nabafundi ngobuso nobuso (F2F) ngesikhathi kanye nendaweni enqunyiwe.. INyuvesi yaseNingizimu Afrika (Unisa) ibhekene nalezi zinguquko zomhlaba ngokuhlanganisa uhlelo lwe-F2F kanye nezinsiza zohlelo lwe-inthanedi ukuxhasa abafundi bayo ngokusebenzisa imodeli ehlanganisiwe yamatjhutha (ITM) efuna ukwanelisa izidingo zokufunda kanye nezinhloso ezilindwe abafundi. Ucwaningo beluqonde ukuhlola ukusebenza kahle kohlelo lwa le ITM. Ucwaningo belulandela ithoyori ebizwa nge-social constructivist theory of learning ngokuxhaswa ukuxhumana (connectivism), i-empathy theory kanye nemodeli yokufunda kaSalmon yezigaba ezinhlanu. Ithiyori yokuqala yokwakhiwa komphakathi isuselwa phezu komqondo wokuthi ukufunda kwakheka ngaphansi kwesizinda sabantu ngaphambi kokuthi abantu bahlangane nolwazi. Ulwazi abantu abahlangabezana nalo ezimpilweni zabo ludlala indima esemqoka ekwakhiweni kolwazi, kanti-ke kubalulekile ukwamukela ulwazi lwabo lwangaphambilini. Abafundi abaxhaswa ngohlelo lwe-ITM ezikhungweni ezisebenzayo eziyisithupha zezifunda kanye nabasebenzi ababandakanyeka ekusetshenzisweni kwe-ITM bazibandakaye kulolu cwaningo. Indlela yesampuli enezinhloso isetshenziselwe ukukhetha labadlalindima, kanti ngakwenye ingxenye indlela yokuksampula yinoma ngubani isetshenzisiwe ukusampula abafundi ukuba baqede umbhalo wemibuzo. Idatha eyencike kwingxoxo iqoqwe ngokusebenzisa izinhlolovo zabantu kanye namaqembu aqondiwe kanye nokuhlaziywa kwemibhalo. Ulwazi olutholakele lwalolu cwaningo luveza ukuthi i-ITM ayisebenzi kahle njengoba yanelisa izidingo zabantu ngokwesigamu, kodwa lolu hlelo lwe-ITM alufinyeleli izinhloso zabo ezilindelwe. Lokhu kungenxa yokuthi i-Unisa ifeza izidingo ngokuhlinzeka, isibonelo, ngohlelo lokufundisa lwe-F2F kanye nohlelo lwe-inthanedi lwamatshutha uma kunesidingo sabanye omojuli. Yize-kunjalo, izimpokophelo ezilindelwe ngabafundi mayelana nokuhlinzekwa ngemfundo eyethulwa ngamatshutha, ngokunikezwa izimpendulo zama-asayimenti kubafundi, ngokusebenzisa imithombo eqotho ezikhungweni zokufunda kanye nokuthola uxhaso lwesithekinikhali oluvela kumatshutha akuyona imisebenzi efeza lokhu. Ngokolwazi olutholakele, ucwaningo lufaka igalelo kwi-ITM ngokwehlukanisa kanye nokuvala izikhala zalo ngokusebenzisa i-Context. I-Input, uHlelo kanye noMkhiqizo (CIPP) okuyimodeli yokuhlola. Izintuthuko zizonceda i-Unisa ukuba ibuyekeze i-ITM ukuqinisa uxhaso lwayo kubafundi ukuze kufezwe izidingo kanye nezinhloso zabo ezilindelwe. / Kabo ya thuto ka mokgwa wa go ithuta ga phatlalatša le ga kgole (ODL) o ipiletša go dihlongwa tša thuto ya godimo go fana ka ditirelo tša thekgo tšeo di ka kgonago go arabela dinyakwa le dikemelo tša baithuti le go ama gabotse maitemogelo a bona a go ithuta.
