Licensierade digitala informationsresurser : En fallstudie om Författarlexikonet Alex på skol- och folkbibliotek.

Jönsson, Anna-Lena January 2016 (has links)
Introduction. I report an investigation designed to identify the contemporary role of digital resources for information retrieval, such as Alex Author-dictionary. This study proposes that it is essential to see digital resources and their specific place within contemporary structures for information retrieval, that digital resources relate to a broader context. My focus is facts beyond giving patrons access to a specific type of information about authors. Method. This case study uses integration of qualitative content analysis from interviewees with data analysis. A pre-search interview and data-analysis along with follow-up interviews established some interesting perspectives on Alex Author-dictionary as well as aspects on digital resources for information retrieval. Transcripts of the interviews formed the data for analysis. Analysis. Qualitative analyses were carried out from two preparatory email-interviews, one with the editor and one with a person who writes for Alex. Another pre-search interview and two following interview sessions, one with a school librarian and another with a public librarian, were conducted. Results. It proved possible to demonstrate that Alex Author-dictionary as such has its benefits compared to sources from the internet. The results derive from and agree with some previous studies, especially that there is a where, when and how to use different resources. The web for example could advantageously give patrons access to other formats such as video interviews etc. that the library doesn’t hold. Conclusion. I identify a need to enlarge the scope of how patrons teach users. Users of all ages would be benefited from knowing when to use Google and when benefited using other digital resources of information retrieval. This sound awareness is directly related to users need to develop skills, and then interpret their own actual information literacy. This could take place either in sessions of user education at the library, or from teachers in a school environment.

Google ekonometrie: Aplikace na Českou republiku / Google Econometrics: An Application to the Czech Republic

Platil, Lukáš January 2014 (has links)
This thesis examines the applicability of Google Econometrics - the use of search volume data of particular queries as explanatory variables in time se- ries modeling - in the case of the Czech Republic. We analyze the contribu- tion of Google data by comparing out-of-sample nowcasting performance and in-sample fit with control variables in three related areas: using an auto- regressive model for unemployment, vector autoregression and logit models for GDP and household consumption, and Granger causality test for consum- er confidence. The improvement in quality of unemployment nowcasting is modest but statistically significant; sentiment index based on Google queries shows reciprocal relationship with the official Consumer Confidence Indicator, and it also provides superior nowcasts for household consumption as well as in- sample fit in logit models; its performance in GDP nowcasting is average among control variables. In overall, the results suggest that Google Econometrics is applicable also to the Czech Republic, despite the fact that the internet penetration rate and Google popularity was lower over the analyzed period compared with developed economies where these methods were usually tested. In the future, Google data may be used together with other leading and coincident indica- tors to...

Programovací jazyk Python a účelnosť jeho zaradenia do výučby / Programming language Python and its suitability of his assignment to the tuition

Arendáč, Tomáš January 2011 (has links)
This thesis is concerned by programming language Python and its suitability of his assignment to the tuition. The work is divided into three dominant parts. The first part describes programming language Python, its elementary characteristics and features. The purpose is to introduce its properties to the reader so that he could estimate if there is point in the deeper concern. There are elements of object-oriented programming in description, too. The second part analyses programming language Python on the basis of ten criteria which are defined considering applicability of the language in preliminary courses of programming. The purpose is to review if the Python is appropriate in these courses. The third part considers the possibilities of the Python tuition at the University of Economics in Prague. The main contribution of the thesis is to give opinion on the fundamental description of the language, to define framework and to pass judgment on the potential chance of use in preliminary courses of programming.

When in Rome, Beijing or Brussels: Cultural Considerations of International Business Communication

Gunn-Graffy, Colin January 2007 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Donald Fishman / This thesis examines the role of culture in international business communication through case studies of several multinational corporations. The first case looks at Coca-Cola's product recall crisis in Belgium in 1999, which exhibited an uncharacteristic deviation from the company's well-known brand marketing brilliance. The second case deals with problems that Disney encountered as it tried to establish its first theme park in Europe in the 1990s and found itself facing a culture as proud and protective as Disney itself. At the heart of these cases were outdated international strategies and an attitude of arrogance that assumed that an American business approach could easily be transferred to a different country and culture. The thesis concludes with an analysis of Google as a case study for the future followed by suggestions for successful international strategies and final thoughts on globalization's effect on culture and corporations. / Thesis (BA) — Boston College, 2007. / Submitted to: Boston College. Google AMP and what it can do for mobile applications in terms of rendering speed and user-experience

Bäck, Oscar, Andersson, Niklas January 2019 (has links)
On today’s web, a web page needs to load fast and have a great user experiencein order to be successful. The faster the better. A server side rendered webpage can have a prominent initial load speed while a client side rendered webpage will have a great interactive user experience. When combining the two, some users with a bad internet connection or a slow device could receive a pooruser experience. A new technology called Amplified Mobile Pages (AMP) wascreated by Google to help combat this issue. The authors of this report gives an answer to if Google AMP could maintain theuser experience while still contributing with a fast initial load speed for applica-tions. To do this, we conducted an experiment through creating a Google AMPapplication and compared it to another application using a different renderingengine called Pug. We have also measured the metrics: page load time, speedindex and application size between the two applications. To fully understandthe AMP format, the authors conducted a literature study, to further strengthentheir findings.Google AMP is a great technology but it can still grow to become better. Theformat could increase the speed of a website, however the same result could beachieved without AMP if focus was set on writing a fast application. From theexperiment, the authors concluded that Google AMP takes a great time to learnbecause of its own version of JavaScript through modules. The format also hasa different structure than standard HTML. From the tests, a smaller applica-tion does not favor the implementation of AMP. We did however derive fromthe experiment and the literature study that bigger applications could benefitfrom the perks of AMP and could therefor be a potential choice for old and newapplications.

Webbapplikation för inrapportering av hälsodata till digitala journalsystem / Web application for self-reporting of personal health data to electronic health records

Vestin, Alexander, Lantz, David, Norrestam Held, Erik, Olsson Kaalhus, Matilda, Salo, Mattias, Hellman, Noah, Liljedahl, Sofie January 2019 (has links)

Yildiz, George, Wallström, Fredrik January 2019 (has links)
Sharing a large amount of data between many mobile devices can lead to scalability problems. One of these scalability problems is that the data becomes too large to store on mobile devices and that many updates are sent to each device. In this thesis, Couchbase is evaluated as a tool to solve this problem where the data has a geographical position. The scalability problem is solved by partitioning the data with the help of Couchbase channels and Google’s tile-based mapping system. Synchronising and storing only data of interest for each user has been in focus. The result showed that it was effective to use a Couchbase solution together with Google’s tile-based mapping system to reduce the amount of data that was required to be stored for each user. It was shown to be more effective to store objects encoded as base64 data instead of their binary data representation for the data set used in this study. The reason for this is because Couchbase stores Binary Large Objects (BLOBs) as separate files and the BLOBs in the data set had much smaller file size than what the disk sector size was. A test to find how the synchronisation time was affected by the number of channels was conducted. It showed that the synchronisation time increased linearly with an increasing number of channels when the objects were stored in separate files. When the objects were encoded as base64 data, the number of channels used had a minor effect on the synchronisation time. The conclusion is that the approach presented in this study has been effective. However, the results are data dependent and therefore it is recommended to rerun similar tests in order to decide the number of channels to use when partitioning the data.

Percepciones sobre la utilidad de google académico como herramienta para la búsqueda de información educativa por estudiantes del curso arte y tecnología de primer año del nivel pregrado de una universidad privada de Lima

Sifuentes Pinedo, Gregorio, Sifuentes Pinedo, Jhon 14 July 2017 (has links)
Tesis
