Mulheres adultas em situação de rua e a mídia: histórias de vida, práticas profissionais com a população de rua e representações jornalísticas / Homeless Women and the Media: Life Histories, professional practices with the homeless and their journalistic representationSuzana Rozendo Bortoli 15 February 2017 (has links)
This is a study about homeless women, the professionals that care for them, and the media coverage of this theme. Homeless women in the city of Rio de Janeiro are the minority of the homeless population. According to the Homeless Population Census 2013 \"A Right to the City\", carried out by the Secretaria Municipal de Desenvolvimento Social do Rio de Janeiro, out of 5,580 homeless people in the municipality, only 18.2% (1,044 individuals) were women. Starting from the premise that all the news items about homeless women cause discontent amongst these women and of specialists in the subject, this research had the main goal of uncovering the position of homeless women, and the professionals that work with them, about the news items that deal with homelessness. The methodology of the work reviewed bibliography, carried out semi-open interviews with homeless women and professionals, (MANZINI, 2004) and analysed the content of media coverage (BARDIN, 1970). The work consists of four parts. The first brings a report of 15 interviews with homeless women contacted in Units of Social Reintegration (Unidades de Reinserção Social--URS) of Rio de Janeiro. The second part reveals the professionals and their work history with the homeless; it relates the work approach of the teams of urban ordering of Rio de Janeiro and the rules of public shelters to which homeless women go. The third part evaluates the understanding these women have about citizenship and discusses theories about news, journalism and journalists. Then, it is shown what the two groups that were interviewed understood of journalism and the news in the media. The fourth part analyses some news items about homeless people collected between 2007 and 2015 in the newspapers Extra and O Globo, publications that were cited by the people interviewed and which served to detect the perceptions of those interviewed about themedia coverage more adequate about the phenomenon of homelessness. This section also deals with the expectations about the future, their expectations, achievements, frustrations, fears, and desires in life. We conclude that the professionals that worked with the homeless believed that the media coverage of the issue causes damage, while most of the homeless women, because of the living conditions, did not have access to the media and were unable to evaluate the news coverage.

Previous issue date: 2016-08-29 / Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Goiás - FAPEG / In this study we propose to understand the meanings attributed by female homeless drug users and
on their experiences in this context. Supported theoretically on Feminist Psychology, along with
the Gender Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies in Health, the research was presented in three
chapters: Homeless People: reflections on abjection, women and drugs; The Feminist Movement
and Gender Concept: implications for Psychology and Mental Health; Construction of a
methodological route for data analysis: a critical feminist perspective. It was used in this study a
qualitative methodology, epistemological setting that aligns the social constructionism and
Women's Studies and Gender. As a tool, we chose to perform interviews. Dialogical maps were
developed in order to analyze the interviews into four categories: homeless; drug use behavior,
violence suffered; being a woman on the street. It is possible to point out, as a result, the gender
perspective proves to be very useful to understand the experiences of homeless women,
highlighting the experiences of rape, psychological and physical violence in the course of their
lives. The use of drugs emerges to alleviate inequalities in gender relations. These data can
contribute for planning and intervention in public policies for homeless. It is necessary more
research for a critical analysis of the effectiveness of homeless’s public policies, taking women
into consideration.
mulheres nesse contexto.

Social sciences and public health research conducted mainly in North America, since the 1980s, have shown that homelessness has a significant impact on health, physical conditions and psychological health of families without housing. In France, quantitative studies on homeless women were scarce until the realization of the ENFAMS survey in Paris region in 2013.Based on data from this survey, we showed that, although younger than women in the general population, the health of homeless women is worse, especially with regards to their mental health and nutritional status. Despite their poor health, homeless women have less access to health care than women in the general population. Our research has highlighted the importance of gynecological follow-up in accessing women's cancer screening since the proportion of women who were screened for cervical cancer was twice as high among women with follow-up than among women without follow-up. We have also shown that in the French context of universal health coverage and numerous social safety nets, we do not find the classic associations between unmet health care needs and financial resources or health insurance status.Primary care professionals need to rely on windows of opportunity provided by each of their contact with health care services to make them benefit from cancer screening. Strategies to improve the access to health care of these women must not only aim to remove financial barriers.

Ztráta domova jako krize v životě klientek 3 azylových domů v Praze / Losing Home as the Critical Point In Lives of Women Clients in Three Prague SheltersDavidová, Romana January 2014 (has links)
The Master's Thesis examines the problematics of a loss of home percieved as crisis by women - clients of shelters. In its theoretical part mainly the findings of professional expertise and materials about homelessness and psychological crisis of loss were used to describe the phenomenon. It also contains a description of various forms of public services available to women who lost their homes as well as a brief introduction to women's shelters in Prague. Research itself was conducted using semi structured interviews with clients of three of Prague's shelters that offer accommodation services to three different target groups of women and forms the practical part of the thesis. The main aim of the research was to answer a question whether or not the clients of the shelters percieved the loss of their homes as crisis. Through several of the questions within the interview it was possible to achieve satisfactory results in providing the answers as well as in gaining some new perspectives on the above mentioned phenomenon as a whole. The research showed that the women who took part in the survey did indeed perceive the period of time when they lost their homes as crisis.

A Little Room of Hope: Feminist Participatory Action Research with "Homeless" WomenParadis, Emily Katherine 25 February 2010 (has links)
In April 2005, a group of women gathered for a human rights workshop at a Toronto drop-in centre for women experiencing homelessness, poverty, and isolation. One year later, the group sent a representative to address the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. This dissertation describes and analyzes the feminist participatory action research-intervention project that began with the workshop and led to the United Nations. Over the course of 15 months, more than 50 participants attended weekly meetings at the drop-in. They learned about social and economic rights, testified about their experiences of human rights violations, and planned and undertook actions to respond to and resist homelessness. This thesis draws upon observations of meetings, documents produced by the group, and interviews with thirteen of the participants, in order to examine the project from a number of angles. First, the project suggests a new understanding of women’s homelessness: testimonies and interviews reveal that homelessness is not only a material state, but more importantly a social process of disenfranchisement enacted through relations of harm, threat, control, surveillance, precarity and dehumanization. Understanding homelessness as a social process enables an analysis of its operations within and for a dominant social and economic order structured by colonization and neoliberal globalization. Secondly, the thesis takes up participants’ assessments of the project’s political effectiveness and its impacts on their well-being and empowerment, and reads these against the researcher’s experiences with the project, in order to explore how feminist participatory methodologies can contribute to resistance. Finally, the thesis concludes with recommendations for theory, research, service provision, and human rights advocacy on women’s homelessness.
