cultural, incluindo a história oral e a análise documental.
Claudia Fonseca (2000, 2006, 2009, 2012), Irene Rizzini (2000, 2007, 2008), Vicente Faleiros
adolescentes do nosso país.
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-30T12:21:47Z

educative processes. It deals with life stories of children and teenagers who were sheltered by
institutions, as a means of protection, and who are the object of research in this study. The
empirical corpus of this text is constituted by administrative proceedings belonging to the
State Public Prosecution Office-4th Department of Justice Specialized in Children and Young
People of Caxias do Sul- in the period of 1990 to 2011, together with narratives produced in
semi-structured interviews, involving four former institution sheltered young people of the
municipality of Caxias do Sul. This corpus was built following the approach of discursive
textual analysis, a methodology of data treatment coined by Roque Moraes (2011).
Methodological routes passed through cultural history commandments, including oral history
and documental analysis. The research had the aim of understanding causes and meanings that
led children and young people to keep distance from their families, many of them without the
support of a provisional measure, as the Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (ECA)
(Children’s Rights Statute) suggests. The analysis of the constructed material indicated that
two of the sheltered boys, had a good experience when admitted in the institutions, as they
apprehended experiences they consider to contribute, nowadays, in their family and social
relationships; but two of the girls reported a great resentment because they did not have their
feelings recognized and respected by people who worked in institutions. They also
emphasized the bad effect of transfer from one institution to another one when they were
twelve years old. The State Public Prosecution Office’s proceedings corroborated the data
presented by National Justice Council, noting that there are more boys than girls who are
sheltered in institutions. This organ also pointed at the Conselho Tutelar’s (Guardianship
Council) lack of knowledge and preparation at the time of taking a child/teenager out of
his/her family. As a complementation, it was made an analysis of permanence and nonpermanence
of laws in the history of childhood in Brazil, using Norbert Elias (1993, 1994,
2011) theoretical contribution. To make this study effective, a dialogue involving authors who
treat the analyzed topics, such as Claudia Fonseca (2000, 2006, 2009, 2012), Irene Rizzini
(2000, 2007, 2008), Vicente Faleiros (1995, 2008), Renato Caminha (1999), Maria Luiza
Marcílio (2006), among others, was proposed. After the finished analysis, the text concludes
that the laws and norms contribute to strengthen work being done with this people, but there
are still articulated public policies lacking, to avoid the break-up of family and community
ties of Brazilian children and teenagers. It is estimated that the contribution of this research is
the articulation between aspects of a long-term history- the process of institutionalization of
children and teenagers in Brazil- and a present-time history- bringing a part of the intimate
territories of sheltered and/or hosted, in contexts of widening of education comprehension,
further from the school’s walls, linking school to a process of socialization.

The socio-cultural impacts of sport events tourism on selected local communities in East London, with specific reference to the Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa TriathlonMxunyelwa, Siyabonga January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Tourism and Events Management))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2011. / In recent years, events have shown rapid growth as types of attraction within
destinations, with such events creating a favourable image of a host
destination, expanding the traditional tourist season, spreading tourist demand
more evenly through an area and attracting foreign and domestic visitors
(Keyser, 2002:18). As such, events are starting to become an established
element and major part of tourism growth and marketing strategies.
East London (in the Eastern Cape, South Africa) has hosted a number of
successful events (Buffalo City Tourism, 2010) however no known social
impact studies related to the community of East London are known to have
been conducted. The purpose of this study was to address this gap and to
evaluate the social impacts of events tourism on the East London community.
The overall research question in this study was, What are the socio-cultural
impacts of events tourism on East London? This was a quantitative study that utilised a survey to collect the data. The
sampling frame was the community at the Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa
Triathlon 2010 held in East London. Potential participants were included in the
sample through utilising a random sampling method. The research instrument
consisted of four sections, namely demographic profiling (age, gender, race,
marital status, education and income), overall event impact perceptions,
reasons for spectator participation, and the social impact perceptions of the
respondents. The event attendees were interviewed. No incentive was offered
for participation, and participants were assured of the confidentiality of their
responses.

The critical role of social capital in strategic sustainable developmentBruce, Niklas, Daly, Elaine, Horton, Paul January 2013 (has links)
The primary intent of this thesis was to determine if and how the practice of Art of Hosting, a dialogue–based, participatory process architecture, could foster social capital in communities and other large, complex social systems working to address a variety of complex challenges, in order to draw conclusions that could contribute, in a meaningful way, to the advancement of strategic sustainable development (SSD). We hoped to gain useful insights by examining and interpreting the results from two case study systems existing within very different social contexts and with very different organizational structures: Columbus, Ohio and the European Commission. Based on the results of our research, strategic recommendations, guidelines and tools were developed for SSD practitioners wishing to assess the level of social capital in the systems in which they operate and take strategic steps to increase it. These same recommendations, guidelines and tools should also be helpful for Art of Hosting practitioners working to address complex societal challenges in general. Overall, the authors of this thesis believe that these results hold particular significance for any collaborative or multi-stakeholder effort to build support for adoption, and ensure the successful implementation, of sustainability goals and programs. This could include Eco-Municipalities, Transition Towns, Agenda 21 Communities, Smart Cities, and large complex organizations such as multi-national corporations or universities, to mention but a few. / <p>daly.elaine2013@gmail.com</p>

Peer-to-peer distribution of web content using WebRTC within a web browserErsson, Kerstin, Siri, Persson January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this project was to investigate if it is possible to host websites using the BitTorrent protocol, a protocol for distribution of data on the web. This was done using several Node.js modules, small clusters of code written in JavaScript, such as Browserify and a modified version of WebTorrent. In these modules, technologies like websockets and WebRTC are implemented. The project resulted in a working WebTorrent module, implemented on the website www.peerweb.io. However, the module still needs optimization concerning the time it takes to set up a WebRTC peer connection. With these modifications, we believe that hosting websites via peer-to-peer network will be the future of the web.

Towards an index to assess the novelty value of the investment in World Cup StadiaMazibuko, Vusi Phillip January 2017 (has links)
Submitted in fulfillment of the requirements of Master of Management Sciences: Public Management, Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa, 2017. / The costs of bidding to host mega sporting events such as the Olympics and FIFA World cups are huge. The demand for massive infrastructure to deliver such games is high irrespective of slow economic growth and constrained fiscal budgets. Very few governments are able to properly assess the actual economic value of the investments in infrastructure. The existing infrastructure appraisal and prioritisation methodologies usually take a very narrow view of value. There is scholarly evidence that there is little effort directed towards studies that investigate intangible benefits associated with infrastructural investment in stadia. Much research effort has been invested in the development of methods and models to measure the economic impacts of mega events. While the focus has been, on balance, on financial benefits of hosting mega events, the independent empirical research has found no evidence of economic benefits associated with mega sport events.
This study then determined, first the conceptual definition, and the nature of novelty value derived from infrastructural investment. Secondly, an index was constructed to assess the novelty value of infrastructural investment on stadia. The index creation process commenced with the identification of items that define the concept from literature. This was followed by interviews of key informants who are experts and insightful on world cup stadia infrastructural investment. The themes from literature as well as insights from key informants shaped the survey instrument for the second phase of the study. A sample (n =399) was drawn from the study population which is made up of patrons of Moses Mabhida stadium. Factor analysis, a multivariate analytical tool was used to develop a reliable novelty value index (V-ndex). The constructed index has three valid and reliable constructs; spectator experience, novelty continuance and modernity. These three construct define the nonfinancial value, which this study describes as novelty value derived from infrastructural investment. It is therefore recommended that when policy makers seek to assess the value of infrastructural investment on sporting facilities, they incorporate non financial value to the financial value added by investment. / M

Vliv nových médií na filmovou a video produkci / Influence of new media on movie and video prodictionAndrle, David January 2011 (has links)
The work is focused on the influence of movie and video production in connection with the new media. It is focused to map how the new media influenced the distribution of movie and video production, depending on their use on the market. The work defines the basic concepts and direction of new media. Characterizes the divergence of terms like old and new media, what are their differences, specifics and how they change film and video distribution channels. It creates complete list and comparison of existing providers of video on demand services. It brings up specified criteria and on base of them compares the most popular video hosting sites. The work includes and specify other channels, which facilitate the spread of film or video and was build up by Web 2.0. Because of the frequent encounters of the Copyright Act in connection with the illegal distribution, especially in the film, this theme is also included in the content.

Allowing more solar power connected to the grid, using thermal and ageing models of distribution transformers.Khatun, Amena January 2021 (has links)
Increasing amounts of solar power connected to the low-voltage network will adversely affect the performance of the network. The two impacts that will most often set the limit are overvoltage with the customers and overloading the distribution transformer. In this work, alternative methods have been studied for determining when a transformer is overloaded, to allow more solar power to be connected to the low-voltage network, i.e., increasing the hosting capacity for solar power.A limit-based method on the highest temperature inside the transformer (the hotspot temperature) and a method based on the loss-of-life of the transformer insulation due to hotspot temperatures above the design temperature are those alternative methods in this study. These methods are known as "dynamic transformer rating", a technology proposed in the literature but with very little practical experience in distribution networks. Two models were developed and implemented in MATLAB: a thermal model of the transformer calculating the hotspot temperature for a given time series of loading and ambient temperature; and a model for the loss-of-life of the winding insulation for given time series of the hotspot temperature. These models have been applied to existing distribution networks: measured consumption patterns with high time resolution (10-minute time step) for nine different distribution transformers for 1.5 years (network operator); measured ambient temperature (SMHI); and solar-power production calculated from satellite measurements (Renewables Ninja). For these nine distribution transformers, the time series of the hotspot temperature and the loss-of-life over the 1.5 years have been calculated for different values of the solar power installed capacity on the low-voltage side of the distribution transformer. The resulting time series are used to estimate the hosting capacity for solar power of a 200 kVA transformer. Using the existing design methods, the hosting capacity is 200 kW. Once that value is reached, the further connection of solar power should be stopped until a larger transformer is available. According to IEC design methods, the hosting capacity is about 270 kW using a limit to the hotspot temperature. This value somewhat depends on the loading patterns of the transformer before the connection of solar power. Once that value is reached, the further connection should again be stopped. Even for installed capacity exceeding 270 kW, the loss of life of the transformer insulation is still small and acceptable. This allows for further connection of PV without the immediate need to replace the transformer. Even values up to 350 or 400 kW may be acceptable, but a limit based on loss-of-life will require a detailed risk analysis as the pre-solar loading of the transformer is shown to play an important role. This work has shown that dynamic transformer rating allows more solar power to be connected to a distribution network than using classical rating methods without unacceptable risk for transformer loss-of-life.
