Upplevelsen av hot och våld : En kvalitativ studie med personal som arbetar på barn och ungdomspsykiatrisk akutmottagning

The aim of the study was to examine individual staff experience and management of threats and violence in the acute psychiatric department for children and teenagers in Uppsala. Previous research shows that the experience of threats and/or violence is individual, and that it is difficult to distinguish between these concepts. Research shows that it is particularly vulnerable to work in psychiatry when mental illness is a cause when threats and violence occurs. Threats and violence can result in different consequences for the individual. The study is based on qualitative interviews and the material was collected in the autumn of 2012 at Akademiska sjukhuset. The qualitative interviews was transcribed and carefully analyzed. The result had an outcome in four different themes: The diffuse definition between threats and violence that showed how difficult it is to define threats and violence. Causes and staff reaction showed that mental illness, how you treat someone and compulsive cares are contributing factors to threats and violence occurs. This theme also shows ambivalence within the staff, that the behavior is unacceptable meanwhile he or she is mentally ill. Management and reporting showed that the staff has different coping strategies when they deal with threats and violence and that it is different how functional the reporting is. The theme working environment showed that it is a vulnerable environment to work in. Therefore, it is important to get support from colleagues and managers but the staff has different opinions whether they feel supported from managers. Utmattningsanalys av svetsförband på pendelarm tillhörande Eco Logs skördare 590D : jämförelse mellan tre utvärderingsmetoder

Eco Log AB i Söderhamn är en tillverkare av skogsmaskiner. De tillverkar både skotare och skördare. På deras skördare sitter fyra pendelarmar som ersätter hjulupphängningen på fordonet. Dessa motverkar att fordonet lutar vid körning i sluttningar. Varje pendelarm drivs av en hydraulkolv som justerar nivelleringen. Då inga beräkningar med avseende på utmattning och livslängd genomförts sedan en omkonstruktion av pendelarmarna är det nödvändigt att analysera och utvärdera pendelarmarna. Syftet med examensarbetet är att analysera ett antal, maximalt tre, av pendelarmens svetsfogar med avsikt på utmattning. Jämförelse mellan de tre olika utvärderingsmetoderna Effective notch stress, Nominell spänning och Hot spot kommer genomföras. På begäran av Eco Log redovisas ej några värden på beräknade livslängder och spänningar utan endast en jämförelse mellan de olika metoderna redovisas där Nominella spännings-metoden används som referensvärde. En inledande spänningsanalys på en pendelarm på deras största skördare, Eco Log 590D, genomfördes. Denna analys, där endast en förenklad pendelarm användes, visade att det mest belastade svetsförbandet befann sig i nivå med infästningen av lagret i ytterlådans konstruktion. Detta svetsförband analyserades sedan vidare med avseende på utmattning. De mer noggranna utmattningsanalyserna baserades på tre olika utvärderingsmetoder för spänningar, Hot spot-, Effective notch stress- och Nominella spännings-metoden. Hot spot-metoden inkluderar membranspänningar och böjspänningar för det utvalda svetsförbandet. Effective notch stress inkluderar mebramspänningar, böjspänningar och den olinjära spänningstoppen för att kunna analysera spänningskoncentrationer i svetsrot eller tå. Nominella spänningar inkluderar normalspänningar. Genom att modellera det utvalda svetsförbandet med dessa tre metoder erhölls information om den maximala spänningsvidden. Denna spänningsvidd applicerades sedan i en arbetsgång för utmattningsberäkningar där en livslängd beräknades fram. Denna livslängd blev för Nominella och Effective notch-metoden blev densamma och för Hot spot-metoden blev den dubbelt så lång. Denna beräkningsgång baseras på International Institute of Welding.Denna beräknade livslängd var betydligt mindre än vad Eco Log hade förväntat sig. Dock är osäkerheten vid beräkningar och test med avseende på utmattning stor och därav borde även provning genomföras för att säkerställa livslängden. / Eco Log AB is a manufacturer of forestry equipment. They manufacture both forwarders and harvesters. On their harvesters there are four pendulum arms that replace the suspension on their vehicles. The pendulum arms anti tilts the vehicle when driving in slopes. Every pendulum arm is individually driven by hydraulic cylinders that adjust the leveling. Given that no calculations with respect to fatigue and service life since a redesign were made, analysis and evaluation of the pendulum arm was necessary. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze an number of, maximum three, of the pendulums welds with respect to fatigue. Comparison between three different evaluation methods Effective notch stress, Nominal stress and Hot spot will be conducted. On request from Eco Log no values regarding calculated service lifetime and stress will be presented, only a comparison between the different methods were the Nominal stress-method is used as reference. An initial stress analysis on the pendulum arm on their largest harvester, the Eco Log 590D, was conducted. This analysis, which only used a simplified pendulum arm, indicated that the most load carrying load were located at the attachment of the bearing thus on the outer box-constructuib. This welded joint was then further analyzed with respect to fatigue. These fatigue analysis was based on three different evaluation methods, Hot spot-, Effective notch stress- and Nominal stress-method. The Hot spot method includes membrane stress and bending stress for the selected weld. Effective notch stress includes membrane stress, bending stress and the nonlinear stress peak in order to analyze stress concentration in the weld root and weld toe. Nominell stress includes normal stresses. By constructing the selected welded joint with these three evaluation methods, information regarding the maximal stress range was given. This stress range was then applied to a specific working procedure for fatigue calculations were the results obtained in expected service-life. The service-life for the Nominal and Effective notch stress-method were almost identic meanwhile for the Hot spot-method the service-life was twice as long. This working procedure is based on the International Institute of Welding. This calculated service-life were significantly less than what Eco Log had expected. The uncertainty of calculation for fatigue is however big and therefore testing should also be carried out to ensure the service life of pendulum arm.

Tidigare forskning om förekomsten av hot, våld och trakasserier inom kriminalvården påvisar att detta är en förekommande faktor inom kriminalvårdens verksamhet. Genom policys om hur man skall arbeta ”personligt men inte privat” skapas ett ”vi och dem” perspektiv som påverkar den dynamiska säkerheten. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur anställda inom kriminalvården upplever sin säkerhet på jobbet och på sin fritid. Studien är baserad på de övergripande frågeställningarna: Hur upplever kriminalvårdarna sin säkerhet på jobbet? Hur upplever kriminalvårdare sin säkerhet på fritiden, är det lätt för före detta intagna att komma i kontakt med dem i ”det fria”? Utifrån en kvalitativ studiedesign utformade vi intervjufrågor som ställts till fem kriminalvårdare, i syfte till att undersöka deras upplevelse av hot, våld och trakasserier på deras arbetsplats. Studien visade att kriminalvårdare påverkades i sitt privatliv på grund av de hot, våld och/eller trakasserier som de upplevt genom sin yrkesroll, antingen genom sina egna erfarenheter eller indirekta erfarenheter genom sina kollegor.

Ger man sig in i leken, får man leken tåla- eller? : En kvalitativ intervjustudie med poliser om våld och hot i arbetslivet

Våld i arbetslivet har de senaste tio-femton åren uppmärksammats inom den kriminologiska forskningen. Tidigare sågs ämnesområdet som tämligen ointressant ur forskningssynpunkt, främst eftersom våld i arbetslivet skiljer sig från det traditionella ”gatuvåldet”. I tidigare studier har man intervjuat vårdpersonal och restaurangpersonal där resultaten tyder på att personalen blir utsatt för våld, men att våldet ses som en del av arbetet. Denna studie består av kvalitativa intervjuer med fem poliser om deras upplevelser av våld och hot i arbetslivet. Studiens syfte är att undersöka vad poliserna själva upplever som våld och hot samt om de anser att de måste tåla en viss typ av våld eller hot i tjänsten. För att undersöka detta användes följande frågeställning: Hur definierar poliser våld och hot? Hur upplever poliser våld och hot som riktas mot dem i sin yrkesroll? Upplever poliser att de ska tåla en viss typ av våld och hot och var går i så fall denna gräns? För att analysera resultaten i denna studie användes Malin Åkerströms begrepp ”Boundary-work” som en teoretisk utgångspunkt för att se om samma fenomen fanns inom polisen, som inom vården och restaurangbranschen. I studien presenteras även livsstilsteorin och appliceras på poliser som yrkesgrupp, för att illustrera hur poliser ständigt riskerar för att utsattas för brott och att detta eventuellt kan ha en påverkan på deras upplevelser och toleransnivå. Resultatet av studien visar att polisernas definition av våld och hot, påminner om brottsbalkens rubricering av misshandel och olaga hot. Dock visar studien att vad som ses som våld beror på faktorer som situationen, aktören och när det gäller hot, även om handlingen kan verkställas. Detta tyder på att polisen normaliserar handlingar utifrån aktörens offeridentitet, orsak till handlingen eller polisernas yrkesidentitet. Poliserna är dock splittrade avseende vad de förväntas tolerera, men de flesta anser att poliserna ska tåla våld i form av våldsamt motstånd, men inte det våld som riktas mot dem som enskilda individer. Dock ska de inte tvingas acceptera någon form av hot eller psykiskt våld.

Energy demand and indoor climate of a traditional low-energy building in a hot climate

Energy demand in the built environment is quite important. China holds a large population and the energy use in the building sector is about 1/3. The rebuilding of old houses and building new low energy houses are becoming more and more popular in China. Low energy building not only consumes less energy, but also provides good indoor environment. An indoor climate software IDA is used in energy and indoor climate simulation. The traditional high isolated low energy house in a hot climate is analyzed, on a typical day in either summer or winter, or during the whole year. Energy consumptions under different parameters are presented. Results show that high isolated house may not always be suitable in a hot climate.

Evaluation of Hot Water Wash Parameters to Achieve Maximum Effectiveness in Reducing Levels of Salmonella Typhimurium, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and coliforms/Escherichia coli on Beef Carcass Surfaces

This study measured and compared different temperatures and dwell times of hot water treatment on the reduction of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella Typhimurium on beef carcass surfaces. Two different types of beef surfaces, lean and fat, were inoculated with a fecal slurry containing E. coli O157:H7 and S. Typhimurium at ca. 7-log CFU/g, washed to remove gross fecal matter, and rinsed with hot water between 66 and 82 degrees C (150 to 180 degrees F water) for either 5, 10, or 15 s. There were no differences (P > 0.05) in the log reductions of S. Typhimurium and E. coli O157:H7 on the lean surfaces for all three temperature treatments (66, 74, and 82 degrees C). Although the 15 s treatment resulted in a numerically higher log reduction than the other treatments, each of the times resulted in at least a 1 log reduction of both S. Typhimurium and E. coli O157:H7 for lean surfaces. For the fat surfaces, all time treatments for the 82 degrees C and the 10 and 15 s treatments for the 74 degrees C resulted in the highest log reduction for S. Typhimurium. The 5 and 10 s dwell times for treatments at 66 degrees C and the 5 s dwell time at 74 degrees C resulted in the lowest log reduction of S. Typhimurium and E. coli O157:H7. For E. coli O157:H7 all temperature and time treatments resulted in at least a 1 log reduction for the fat surfaces of the outside round. Therefore, hot water treatment is a proven method for reducing both coliforms and pathogenic bacteria.

Validation of Hot Water and Lactic Acid Sprays for the Reduction of Enteric Pathogens on the Surface of Beef Carcasses

Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella have emerged as the most common foodborne enteric pathogens causing human illness from the consumption of beef. By mandate of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the industry has implemented a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system that utilize intervention technologies for controlling, preventing, and/or reducing enteric pathogens. In addition, USDA-FSIS has mandated that each facility must validate, monitor, and verify the effectiveness of each intervention implemented to eliminate E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella. For this study, microbial decontamination interventions at two beef slaughter facilities were validated to demonstrate effectiveness in eliminating or reducing enteric pathogens. The facilities selected utilized either a lactic acid spray treatment or a combination of hot water followed by a lactic acid treatment. At both facilities, mesophilic plate counts (MPC) were significantly (P < 0.05) reduced, and E. coli and coliforms were eliminated below detectable limits at both facilities. No Salmonella positive samples were detected after either facility's intervention sequence. The framework used in this research to validate interventions can also be utilized in the future for yearly verification of the effectiveness of each intervention.

Design and Construction of a Guarded Hot Box Facility for Evaluating the Thermal Performance of Building Wall Materials

The focus of this study was to design and build a guarded hot box to test the R-Value of building materials. The Riverside Energy Efficiency Laboratory is looking to expand their testing capabilities by including this service. Eventually, the laboratory will become energy star certified. A guarded hot box facility consists of two boxes maintained at specific temperatures and a guard box around each one that is maintained at the same temperature as the box it surrounds. The ASTM C1363 standard was used as guide for the construction and testing of sample specimen. This standard called for an air velocity profile uniform within 10 percent of the average. Velocity tests were performed with various different configurations to give a uniform velocity. Although the velocity did not meet standards, the configuration chosen included a piece of 1/4" pegboard placed 2" away from the top and the bottom of the inner box. By using the known overall heat added and removed from the system, as well as all the heat losses the heat transferred through the specimen and its R-Value can be calculated. The uncertainty of the R-Value and the accuracy of the testing facility gave conflicting results. Future experiments will use improved testing methods that include differential thermocouples to obtain better uncertainty for the R-Value calculations.

Investigation on electrical analysis and hot carrier effect of 65nm MOSFETs under External Mechanical Stress

Semiconductor technology has already got into nanometer scale. As the dimension keeping scaling down, we can get more transistor in the same area, and furthermore the frequency and performance are also enhanced. But nowadays the development of the lithography technology has come to the neck; we must find another way to improve the performance of transistor. In this study, we fully discuss the electrical characteristics and the hot carrier effect as the channel of the N-MOSFETs being strained. In order to strain the channel, silicon substrate is bent by applying external mechanical stress, the lattice of channel will be strained after applying uniaxial tensile stress. Therefore, we successfully improve drain current and carrier mobility of NMOS, and the increasing rates are 22% and 30% respectively. In addition, we can understand the influence of hot carrier effect on strain silicon by bending silicon substrate with external mechanical stress. With the increase of curvature, substrate current goes up. We offer an explanation to verify this result.
