This low quality may be justified by problems with planning, execution and control of daily activities in the farm. In this context, the present dissertation proposes a reference model of Quality Management System (QMS) for dairy farms. The model´s aim is establish the quality management requirements and the principles needed to assure the quality and security of milk, as well as needed to the continuous improvement of the process activities. The model contents two modules: Basis Module is shaped by a set of principles and conditions that orient all the system, while Requirements Module is shaped by a set of requirements that execute and manage the system in the practice based on data and facts generating decisions and plans in the daily of dairy farm. Farther on showing the modules details, this work presents a proposal of the QMS documentation structure and also a set of suggestions to the model implementation in the dairy farms. With its implementation, the model may minimize costs with losses and reworks, and generate higher satisfaction to the farm´s customers (industrial establishments) and final consumers of chain. According to the assessment realized with a sample of the target public (farmers and rural extension agents), the model accomplishes its purpose. Although its language had been evaluated as a weakness, the QMS was considered an important mean to the Brazilian dairy farmers get a professional status. / Os agentes da cadeia produtiva leiteira brasileira convivem com índices críticos de perdas, começando pela propriedade rural que, muitas vezes, fornece matéria-prima de baixa qualidade. Baixa qualidade que pode ser justificada por problemas de planejamento, execução e controle das atividades do dia-a-dia da propriedade. Nesse contexto, a presente dissertação propõe um modelo de referência de Sistema de Gestão da Qualidade (SGQ) para propriedades rurais leiteiras. A finalidade do modelo é estabelecer os princípios e requisitos de gestão da qualidade necessários à garantia da qualidade e da segurança do leite, bem como à melhoria contínua das atividades inerentes ao processo de produção leiteira. O modelo é constituído por dois módulos: o Módulo Base do SGQ é formado por um conjunto de princípios e condições que norteiam todo o sistema, enquanto que o Módulo Requisitos do SGQ é formado por um conjunto de requisitos que executam e gerenciam o sistema na prática, com base em dados e fatos gerando decisões e planos no dia-a-dia da propriedade leiteira. Além do detalhamento dos módulos, apresenta-se uma proposta de estrutura de documentação do SGQ bem como um conjunto de recomendações para implantação do modelo em propriedades rurais leiteiras. Uma vez implantado, o modelo contribui para a redução de custos com perdas e retrabalhos, bem como para a geração de maior satisfação ao cliente (laticínios) e aos consumidores finais da cadeia. Segundo a avaliação realizada junto aos representantes de seu público-alvo (produtores e extensionistas rurais), o modelo teórico cumpre a finalidade para a qual foi proposto. Apesar de sua linguagem ter sido avaliada como um ponto fraco, o SGQ foi considerado um importante meio para a profissionalização do produtor rural brasileiro.

Thesis (MTech (Quality))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009. / There is a South African Government initiative to use State-owned Enterprises (SOE's) to roll out a programme for the development and stimulation of local small businesses in South Africa. The state has requested SOE's to set targets on a voluntary basis to increase trade with small businesses, with the purpose of developing small enterprises to eventually enhance skills transfer, training and employment. However, when large customers such as Eskom Nuclear Generation require ISO certification as a prerequisite for a supplier to provide goods and/or services to them, most small businesses are unable to comply. The requirement of IS09000 compliance inhibits the ability of most small businesses to compete with their larger counterparts. Small businesses constitute as much as 90% of most world economies. They have many advantages to offer customers, such as a high level of flexibility, innovation and responsiveness to customer needs. These attributes can introduce healthy competition to the supply chain. Small businesses, by their very nature experience more risks, such as a higher vulnerability to volatile market forces and skills loss. In addition, they are generally less specialised.

Além de abordar os aspectos fundamentais do processo de integração, considerando as particularidades dos requisitos que fazem parte do Sistema da Qualidade das empresas do ramo de autopeças, a autora tenta relatar as principais atividades relacionadas ao processo de integração, dentre elas as que agregam maior valor, bem como as mais freqüentes armadilhas a serem evitadas, a fim de orientar futuras aplicações em modelos similares. Para isto, além da experiência da autora na área da Qualidade e Ambiental, foi necessária uma revisão bibliográfica em torno do conceito de integração, por tratar-se de um tema bastante recente. Em seguida, o método é validado por meio de uma aplicação prática numa empresa de médio porte do ramo de autopeças. The approach of this study is to detail the main aspects of the integration process, considering the particularities of the Quality System requirements regarding spare parts industries. The author also tries to relate the main activities regarding the integration process, mainly the ones that add more value, as well as the most common tricks to be avoided, in order to guide future applications to similar models. In order to do that, it was performed a bibiographical revision regarding the integration concept, as well as the author¿s experience on quality and environmental issues, because it is a very recent subject. After that, the method was validated at a medium size spare parts industry. Some important results have been reached, such as the partial integration of the Quality and Environmental Management Systems, as well as the Certification according to the ISO TS 16949:2002 and ISO 14.001:1996 standards. Este reflexo poderá ser avaliado ao se comparar os dados históricos relativos aos indicadores de processo (rejeição, desperdício, confiabilidade de entrega, produtividade e projetos de melhoria) e de satisfação de clientes (reclamações de qualidade relativas à produção e satisfação de clientes internos) adotados para a versão 94 e os números obtidos após o início das ações de transformação, executadas visando à adequação à nova versão. Especificamente a respeito das normas, será feita uma revisão de literatura, abrangendo a comparação entre as duas versões, ressaltando o que a mais recente ¿ centrada na melhoria contínua ¿ traz de diferencial em relação à versão anterior. Com isto, será possível avaliar o potencial da ISO 9001:2000 como instrumento de canalização de esforços para a melhoria / Abstract: The aim of this research paper is to evaluate ISO 9001:2000 version as a catalyst for improvement programs. Keeping the detailed data on process management brought up by the 94 version, ISO 9001:2000 emphasizes the concept of continuous improvement, presenting a new challenge to those who try to implement it. For such an effort, some settlements are needed in order to meet all the new version requirements, and the improvement programs started in the target-unit have such goal, and their results have directly reflected upon the unit performance indicators. This effect on the indicators will be more clearly evaluated by comparing historical data related to process (rejection, waste, serviceability, productivity and improvement programs) and to customer satisfaction (customer complaints related to manufacturing process and internal customer satisfaction) established considering 94 version and the numbers achieved after the actions focused on the new ISO version took place. Particularly concerning to norms, a literature review will be done, embracing a comparison between the two versions, paying special attention to what the 2000 version ¿ focused on continuous improvement ¿ brings as differential over the previous one. A brief explanation on the concept of continuous improvement ¿ core of the 2000 version ¿ will also be part of this paper considering the norm and experts contributions, and on the use and relevance of indicators. Organisational Adoption of Innovations : Management Practices and IT

This thesis describes effects of use and reasons for using three different organisational innovations: ISO 9000, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and an administrative tool (the YAF-module) in the Swedish Sports Confederation’s system Swedish Sports Online. This is done through three separate studies. The first study is directed at Swedish Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) and the two following studies are directed at Swedish sport associations. The thesis contains three separate essays presenting the studies and an introductory part where the studies are compared. In the introductory part of the thesis the interaction patterns between organisation and innovation are compared and discussed. I discuss the level of effort put into the decision and implementation processes, and how this is related to the satisfaction with the innovations. The patterns that emerged are quite different in the three studies. Understanding these different interaction patterns between organisation and innovation is a step away from a beneficial/ detrimental dichotomy of innovations. The decision and implementation processes differ between the three studies regarding what parts of the organisations were involved. In the first study we saw top down decision and implementation processes, whereas in the second study we saw bottom or middle up processes. In the third study the decision and implementation was much narrower in scope, often involving only one person. I also describe how all perspectives (efficient choice, forced selection, fad and fashion perspective) suggested by Abrahamson (1991), bear some grain of truth for the adoption of ISO 9000 by SMEs and adoption of ICT by sport associations, whereas imitation (the fad and fashion perspectives) is less important in the adoption of the YAF-module. Furthermore, I discuss the parallels between human and organisational decisionmaking. Summary of the first essay – The aim of the first study is to investigate the effects of quality management in accordance with the ISO 9000 as viewed by both quality managers and other managers. We also consider the way companies carried out the recertification process to ISO 9001:2000 and what consequences different approaches brought. The study is based on Swedish SMEs with an ISO 9000:1994 who had recertified according to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. The strongest, most obvious and most valued effects of the ISO 9000 standard are clearer and more apparent working procedures and responsibilities. The most apparent problem is bureaucracy, which according to some managers can lead to reduced flexibility. The effects of the certification vary depending on how the certification project is conducted and how consultants are used. Summary of the second essay – This essay presents a descriptive study of the use of information and communication technology (ICT) and the change in communication patterns in Swedish sport associations over the period 1994 to 2003. The change is discussed in light of Internet and broadband diffusion. Results show that new channels for communication have been adopted, primarily Web sites and e-mail, but few established channels have been dropped. While there are associations that save time and money and increase the spirit of community using ICT, many organisations experience the increased number of communication channels as a burden since maintaining them takes extra resources but the benefits are not always easy to detect or measure. Certain characteristics common among non profit organisations (NPOs) as well as Internet and broadband access have influenced the development of ICT use. Summary of the third essay – This essay presents a new model for analysing adoption of discretionary, public information systems (PIS) with digital use patterns (such as use or non-use, as opposed to frequency of use, or degree of engaged or compliant use). The model is based on Rogers’ innovation diffusion theory (IDT) and Nilsson’s user centred access model (UCAM). The model is an alternative to the general technology acceptance model (TAM). The AKAM-Model identifies six prerequisites for use and four management approaches and describes how these are related. To illustrate its applicability, the AKAM-Model is used to analyse the adoption of a specific module, the YAF-module, in the Swedish Sports Confederation’s (SSC) system Swedish Sports Online. We present empirical results that indicate the frequency and importance of the barriers and driving forces as experienced by the YAF-module users and the potential YAF-module users. / Denna avhandling beskriver effekterna av, och skälen för, användning av tre organisatoriska innovationer: ISO 9000, informations- och kommunikationsteknologi (ICT) och en administrativ modul (LOK-stödsmodulen) i Riksidrottsförbundets system Svenskidrott Online. Avhandlingen presenterar tre olika studier samt en kappa där studierna diskuteras och jämförs. Den första riktar sig mot svenska små och medelstora företag, och de två följande studierna riktar sig mot svenska idrottsföreningar. I den inledande delen av avhandlingen diskuterar jag interaktionsmönstren mellan organisation och innovation och jämför mellan de olika studierna. Jag diskuterar hur mycket kraft som läggs på besluts- och implementeringsprocessen, och hur detta är relaterat till nöjdheten med innovationen. Mönstren som framträder är olika mellan de tre studierna. Att förstå dessa interaktionsmönster är ett steg bort från dikotomin förbättring/försämring rörande innovationer. Besluts- och implementeringsprocesserna skiljer sig också mellan studierna avseende vilka delar av organisationen som är inblandade. Den första studien handlar om ”topdown” processer medan den andra studien handlar om ”bottom-up” eller ”mitten-upp”- processer. I den tredje studien var besluts- och implementeringsprocesserna betydligt mindre omfattande, ofta var endast en person inblandad. Jag beskriver också hur alla, av Abrahamson (1991) föreslagna perspektiven (efficient choice, forced selection, fad and fashion-perspektiven) har ett korn av sanning för adoption av ISO 9000 och för adoption av ICT medan imitation (fad and fashion-perspektiven) är mindre viktigt för adoption av LOK-stödsmodulen. Sammanfattning av den första studien – Syftet med studien är att undersöka effekterna av kvalitetsledning i enlighet med ISO 9000, som de upplevs av både kvalitetschefer och andra chefer. Vi beaktar också hur företagen genomför omcertifieringsprocessen till ISO 9001:2000 och vilka konsekvenser olika genomföranden fick. De starkaste, tydligaste och högst värderade effekterna av ISO 9000 är tydligheten i arbetssätt och ansvarsfördelning. Det största problemet är byråkrati som kan leda till minskad flexibilitet. Resultaten visar att idrottsföreningarna har börjat använda nya kommunikationskanaler, främst hemsida och epost, men ofta inte slutat använda traditionella kanaler. Många föreningar upplever dock de nya kanalerna som en börda, i de fall de inte slutat använda några traditionella kanaler. Vissa faktorer utmärkande för ideella organisationer och vissa faktorer utmärkande för Internet- och bredbandstillgång har påverkat ICT-användningen. Sammanfattning av den tredje studien – I denna studie utvecklas en ny modell (AKAM-modellen) för att analysera adoption av valfria, publika informationssystem (PIS) med digitala användningsmönster (d.v.s. användning eller ingen användning till skillnad från grad av användning). Modellen baseras på Rogers innovations- och diffusionsteori (IDT) och Nilssons användarcentrerade tillgångsmodell (UCAM). Modellen är ett alternativ till teknologiacceptansmodellen (TAM). AKAM-modellen baseras på sex förutsättningar för användning och fyra sätt att hantera PIS samt beskriver hur dessa är relaterade till varandra. För att illustrera tillämpbarheten av AKAM-modellen, använder vi den för att analysera adoptionen av LOK-stödsmodulen i Riksidrottsförbundets system Svenskidrott Online. The diploma thesis deals with the area of quality of further education. It focuses in detail on the concepts of quality of further education, standardized quality management systems at international level (ISO 9000, EFQM Model Excellence) and specific systems used abroad (Swiss model eduQua and German model LQW). The work focuses on specific concepts and proposals of quality education systems developed and implemented in the Czech Republic. The output of the thesis is an analysis of selected concepts (National Qualification System, Project Concept, Quality in Further Professional Education), critical assessment of their form (methods, methodology) and reflection of their implementation into practice and impacts on quality in further education. The thesis links the theoretical knowledge with the practice and on their basis it presents its own proposal of possibilities of solution of system quality assurance in further education. This thesis deals with the application of quality management in the unconventional field of logistics that are increasingly becoming inseparable parts. The aim of the thesis is to find out logistics provider's attitude and opinion about various aspects of the quality, their interest in quality management and especially its usefulness in the real world. Secondary aim is to analyze the concept of quality management, methods being used and matter of connection with logistics. The theoretical part of the thesis focus on historical development and definition of the quality. There are methods being used to improve the quality, strategic importance of quality management and different types of quality awards in Czech Republic and around the world. In the next chapter are the most frequently discussed approaches to quality management as ISO 9000 standards and Total quality management. Following section is devoted to logistics and logistics providers. Last chapter deals with customer satisfaction in 21st century and customer expectations. Practical part is centered on creation of the survey, evaluation of the obtained data and the final result.

Part of its success may be due to the fact that the quality system procedure can be certified by an independent organization. ISO 9000 would show that those certified companies have a certain control over their productive process, and may offer high quality goods and services. However, there still remains a controversy: does ISO 9000 actually bring profits to those certified companies? This essay is to establish a connection between the Certificate itself and certified companies¿ results, focusing on small chemical industries in the state of São Paulo that have adopted ISO 9000 procedures. Public financial data from both certified and non-certified companies were used to verify the hypothesis. The new method should succesfully solve the questions of suppliers rating and should be suitable for the firm according to the resources needed for its application.

ISO sine miljøstandarder ble først publisert i 1996. Arbeidet derimot hadde startet alt i 1991, på bakgrunn av at ISO hadde blitt en annerkjent organisasjon for også ikke-tekniske standarder og på bakgrunn av det økte internasjonale miljøfokuset. Hoveddeltagerne i arbeidet var ledere og viktige personer i mellomstore og store bedrifter, og dette bidro til at fokuset ble på miljøstyringsystemer istedenfor på konkrete miljøkrav. Arbeidet de første 2 årene ble gjort gjennom Strategic Advisory Group on the Environment (SAGE), som var et sammarbeid mellom ISO og IEC. I 1993 ble en teknisk komitee opprettet. Denne fikk navn TC 207: miljøstyring, og har sitt hovedkontor i Canada.
