EXAMINING THE INDEPENDENCE AND CONTROL OF THE FINGERSSanei, Kia 10 1900 (has links)

Biomechanical and neural factors have both been suggested to contribute to the limited independence of finger movement and involuntary force production. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of finger independence by examining the activity of the four compartments of extensor digitorum (ED) and flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) using surface electromyography and involuntary force production in the non-task fingers using methods such as the “enslaving effect” (EE) and the “selectivity index” (SI). Twelve male participants performed a series of 5-second sub-maximal exertions at 5, 25, 50 and 75% of maximum using isometric isotonic and ramp finger flexion and extension exertions. Ramp exertions were performed from 0 to 85% of each finger’s maximum force with ascending and descending phases taking 4.5 seconds each with 0.5 seconds of plateau at 85%. Lower EE and higher SI (more selective force production) was found in flexion exertions compared to extension partially due to the higher activity of the antagonist ED compartments counterbalancing the involuntary activation of the non-task FDS compartments. Minimal FDS activity was seen during extension exertions. At forces up to and including 50%, both EE and muscle activity of the non-task compartments were significantly higher in descending exertions than the isotonic or ascending exertions. The selectivity index was also lower during the descending flexion and extension exertions at 25 and 50% MVC exertions. Up to mid-level forces, both finger proximity and contraction mode affects involuntary force production and muscle activation while at higher forces only finger proximity (and not the exertion mode) contributes to finger independence. The fingers were less selective at higher exertion levels (75% MVC) and all 3 exertion modes resulted in similar SI at 75% MVC in all flexion and extension exertions.
/ Master of Science in Kinesiology

Oberoende och rådgivning : En kvalitativ studie om rådgivningens påverkan på oberoendet / Independence and advisory services : A qualitative study on the impact of advisory services on independenceOlszak, Zaneta, Ullini, Armelinda January 2024 (has links)
Nyckelord: oberoende, revisionsrådgivning, fristående rådgivning, auktoriserad revisor / Title: Independence and advisory services - A qualitative study on the impact of advisory services on independence Level: Bachelor's Degree thesis in Business Administration Author: Zaneta Olszak and Armelinda Ullini Supervisor: Jan Svanberg Date: 2024 - may Aim: The aim is to understand how auditors manage and reason about the impact of advisory services on independence. Method: This study consists of a qualitative method and abductive approach where seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with Certified Public Accountants. Results and conclusions: The results suggest that there is an advantage in providing independent advice to audit clients especially to small and owner-managed companies due to limited resources, as long as independence is not affected. In the case of self-interest threats, it is considered to affect more independence in appearance than it affects independence in fact. Independence in fact is considered impaired in the case of self-review threats. The boundary between non-audit services and audit advisory is not always considered clear. Management of self-review threats takes place through division of labor and second opinion. In addition, if there is uncertainty about the boundary between non-audit services and audit advisory, a second opinion is requested from colleagues. Contribution of the thesis: The study has contributed to the understanding of how auditors handle and reason about advisory services influence on independence, which includes the understanding of the independence problem regarding the border between audit advisory and non-audit services. The result may also be important for regulators to improve ethical standards and regulations. Suggestions for future research: To investigate differences in how auditors consider advisory services to affect independence and how independence issues are handled based on the size of the audit firm. Another suggestion is to delve further into examining how auditors approach the boundary between audit advisory and non-audit services. Key words: independence, audit advisory, non-audit services, Certified Public Accountant

Diabetes mellitus typ 1: Unga vuxnas upplevelser av egenvård : - En litteraturöversikt med kvalitativ ansats / Diabetes mellitus type 1: Young adults' experiences of self-care : - A literature review with a qualitative approachElwan, Alaa, Johansson, Moa January 2024 (has links)
Background: Diabetes type 1 is an incurable disease that can cause serious health related complications. Treatment mainly consists of self-care. Disease onset usually occurs during puberty, and the transition to adulthood can be particularly challenging to manage with diabetes type 1. Understanding the great personal responsibility required by diabetes mellitus type 1 allows nurses to best support young adults during this transition. Aim: Describe young adults experiences of self-care in diabetes mellitus type 1. Method: A literature review with a qualitative and inductive approach. Twelve scientific articles were analyzed according to Friberg’s (2022) five-step model. Data were conducted through the Cinahl and MEDLINE databases. Results: Young adults with type 1 diabetes experienced an emotional transition when taking over self-care responsibilities from their parents. Support from family and healthcare professionals was crucial in promoting effective diabetes management, while lack of understanding or excessive involvement from family members lead to deteriorated self-care. Young adults feared being different and sometimes compromised their self-care to avoid stigma or fit into social contexts. Conclusion: Young adults with type 1 diabetes face tough challenges during the transition to adulthood as they must take responsibility for their self-care while encountering typical life challenges. The balance between self-care and everyday life, as well as the need for support from family and friends, influences their feelings of frustration and resignation.

Zero Divisors, Group Von Neumann Algebras and Injective Modules / Zero Divisors and Linear Independence of TranslatesRoman, Ahmed Hemdan 29 June 2015 (has links)
In this thesis we discuss linear dependence of translations which is intimately related to the zero divisor conjecture. We also discuss the square integrable representations of the generalized Wyle-Heisenberg group in 𝑛² dimensions and its relations with Gabor's question from Gabor Analysis in the light of the time-frequency equation. We study the zero divisor conjecture in relation to the reduced 𝐶*-algebras and operator norm 𝐶*-algebras. For certain classes of groups we address the zero divisor conjecture by providing an isomorphism between the the reduced 𝐶*-algebra and the operator norm 𝐶*-algebra. We also provide an isomorphism between the algebra of weak closure and the von Neumann algebra under mild conditions. Finally, we prove some theorems about the injectivity of some spaces as ℂ𝐺 modules for some groups 𝐺. / Master of Science

To Heal What Is Broken : Charles XIII’s legitimisation of power in Speeches 1809-1818Söderlund, Joel January 2024 (has links)
This thesis analyses speeches by Charles XIII of Sweden to the Assembly of the Estates from 1809 to 1818, showing how Charles legitimised himself, the new regime he represented and his two successors, Charles August, and Charles John. The legitimisation focuses on the rhetorical meaning that Charles chronologically gives to the key concepts he utilises in independence, citizens, and freedom and how this relates to the periods before his rule. The thesis shows that independence was the key concept of Charles’ legitimisation as he constructed a myth around the Coup d’état of 1809, why it was needed and why the new ruling system and constitution he represented was legitimate. This was also connected to the concept of citizens and freedom, where Charles acknowledges and recognises that citizens have the authority to decide the nation’s future freely, and to uphold the freedom that belonged to their ancestors. Charles's role as king was to protect the nation's independence and the authority and freedom of its citizens. Charles presented contrasting images for the two successors, with Charles August not needing or having much legitimisation due to his early demise and lack of action being legitimised as a promise for a better future. For Charles John, his legitimisation comes in two forms: he would continue the example of a constitutional monarch that Charles had shown and as a warrior king who, through his military actions, deserved the throne more than any before him. The thesis concludes by showing that Charles legitimised his power as king by embracing the constitutional monarchy, expressing that he and Charles John would protect the independence and freedom of the Swedish citizens and their authority guaranteed by the constitution.

Decoupling control in statistical sense: minimised mutual information algorithmZhang, Qichun, Wang, A. 03 October 2019 (has links)
No / This paper presents a novel concept to describe the couplings among the outputs of the stochastic systems which are represented by NARMA models. Compared with the traditional coupling description, the presented concept can be considered as an extension using statistical independence theory. Based on this concept, the decoupling control in statistical sense is established with the necessary and sufficient conditions for complete decoupling. Since the complete decoupling is difficult to achieve, a control algorithm has been developed using the Cauchy-Schwarz mutual information criterion. Without modifying the existing control loop, this algorithm supplies a compensative controller to minimise the statistical couplings of the system outputs and the local stability has been analysed. In addition, a further discussion illustrates the combination of the presented control algorithm and data-based mutual information estimation. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Kommunalt stödboende - en politiskt styrd verksamhet : En studie som undersöker kvalitetsaspekter i arbetet på kommunala stödboenden för unga 16-21 år / Municipal supported housing: A politically controlled organizationLundberg, Moa January 2024 (has links)
The study aims to investigate what constitutes quality in municipal supported housing for young people (16-21 y/o). The study examines organizational conditions and what working methods are used in the work with the youths. Qualitative interviews have been conducted with unitmanagers, coordinators and employees who work at various municipal supported housing inSweden (10 interviews; 6 supported housing). The interviews have been processed using athematic analysis method and analyzed with self-determination theories combined with a theoretical framework based on implementation science and quality residential care. The resultsshowed some central quality aspects for the supported housing facilities. Related to structurequality, the importance of internal trustworthy relationships in the workplace, opportunities for competence supplies, flexibility, good professional collaborations, and access to resources werehighlighted. For process quality, it depended on how the caregivers produced and contributedto the youth’s goal to independency. The coworkers mainly used practical and emotional support efforts, inspired by Motivational Interviewing approaches. Since the employees mainly used themselves as a working tool, the study concludes that they would need continuous support for their professional and personal development, to maintain a good quality.

Finance, Investment and Decolonisation in Nigeria: Early market formation and participation on the Lagos Stock Exchange, 1957–1967Lukasiewicz, Mariusz 20 June 2024 (has links)
Given the relative scarcity of capital and the small volume of savings in most
African economies at independence, the establishment of stock exchanges and their regulation
showed that several countries considered them as strategic financial intermediaries
for channelling capital to their national, and even regional, economies. This article
examines the Lagos Stock Exchange’s formative years as a political process of Nigeria’s
decolonisation and the First Republic. Originally incorporated as a private limited liability
company on 15 September 1960, and as the first stock exchange in West Africa and
the region’s largest economy, the new financial intermediary defined the relationship
between the post-independence state and the growing capital market during a period of
considerable political and economic changes. The role of the post-independence state and
state-owned enterprises in facilitating the trade on the Lagos Stock Exchange broadens
the analytical scope of this investigation to identify the sources of Nigeria’s development
finance. While significant efforts were taken to grow private individual participation in the
share trade and ownership, the early years of the Lagos Stock Exchange were ultimately
marked by the dominance of institutional investors such as state-owned enterprises and private commercial banks.

The impact of corporate governance on Financial performance : A quantitative study of the banking sector in Sri Lanka between 2018 and 2022Athuldora Arachchi, Athuldora Arachchige Seemali January 2024 (has links)
ost companies adhere to corporate governance, which is a generally recognized governingstructure in order to enhance the financial performance of their business. This studyinvestigates the relationship between corporate governance and the financial performanceof Sri Lanka's licensed banks using this scenario as a basis. The research question raised bythis study was “Does Corporate Governance impact on Financial Performance of BankingSector in Sri Lanka?”. The independence variables were corporate governance and it wasmeasured from five dimensions board size ,gender diversity , number of board meetings, and board independence, number of board committees. The dependent variables wasfinancial performance and it was measured from return on assets and return on equity. Thecontrol variables used for study were firm size, leverage, and firm age. The non-randomconvenience sampling methods was used and selected 19 banks out of 30 licensed banks inSri Lanka. The data was collected from secondary sources, that is, annual reports of 2018-2022.The collected data were analyzed through regression analysis using SPSS statistical methodto ascertain the developed hypothesis of this study. The findings of the study revealed thatboard independence was statistically significant with both ROA and ROE indicating that anegative and positive linear relationship respectively. Board size and number of femaledirectors were statistically significant with ROA while board size and number of femaledirectors were not statistically significant with ROE. However, number of board meetingsand number of board committees were not statistically significant with both ROA and ROE.These results revealed that in overall, corporate governance dimensions were moreimpacted on return on assets compared to return on equity in the Sri Lankan banking sector.
