Energetická náročnost chůze na slackline / Energy cost of slacklining

Title Energy expenditure of slackline walking Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the energy expenditure of slacklining in intermediate and advanced slackliners. Methods In this observatory study, 19 slackliners (10 intermediate, of which 7 men and 3 women, 9 advanced, of which 7 men and 2 women) completed experimental energy expenditure measurement of slacklining using indirect colorimetry. The MetaMax 3B metabolic analyzer (Cortex Biophysik, Germany) was used to determine respiratory parameters and the heart rate monitor (Polar Electro OY, Finland) was used to determine the heart rate (HR). Comparative statistical tools were used in the data analysis. Results Relative energy expenditure of 0,471 kJ·min-1 ·kg-1 was found in intermediate slackliners and 0,377 kJ·min-1 ·kg-1 in advanced slackliners in walking on a 10 m long slackline at a constant speed of 15 m·min-1 . In the static standing on slackline, the relative energy expenditure was found to be 0.368 kJ·min-1 ·kg-1 in intermediate slackliners and 0.289 kJ·min-1 ·kg-1 in advanced slackliners. The weighted arithmetic mean for HR in men and women walking on the slackline at 15 m·min-1 was at 67.3% of the predicted HRmax (220 - age for men, 226 - age for women). Zambia has ratified vital international conventions that promote the rights of PWDs and domesticated some of them in various legislatures and policies. However, access to the built environment for PWDs does not seem to be improving. There is, therefore, a need to understand the challenges that the Zambian legal framework that regulates the design of the built environment faces in ensuring adequate access to the built environment for PWDs. This study explored Zambia's legal framework that regulates the designing of the built environment for sufficiency in ensuring adequate access to the built environment for PWD. The study is a qualitative descriptive case study of the said legal framework. The study reviewed Zambia’s architecture, equality and disability laws from 2012 to the present from a socio-legal perspective. They were then analysed by transformative equality principles for accessibility. It has been established that the legal framework in Zambia is not sufficient to ensure adequate access to the built environment for PWDs.

An Experimental Investigation of Crank-Resolved Exhaust Pressure Profiles in a Single Cylinder Research Engine with Emphasis on the Potential of Harvesting Exhaust Energy

The experiments detailed in this thesis give necessary preliminary information for analyzing the theoretical potential of direct exhaust pulse energy harvesting through expander devices. A detailed review of pertinent literature determined that there has been little specific focus on directly converting exhaust pulse energy into useful power. Crank position resolved exhaust pressure was measured as engine load and speed were varied to quantify their influences. Potential theoretical improvements average a 15.6% increase in overall fuel conversion efficiencies while indicated power can potentially be increased by an average of 14.3% for the operating conditions tested. A potential increase of up to 20% in indicated specific fuel consumption was shown. With increasing regulations on combustion engine efficiencies, emissions, and fuel requirements, the ability to reduce waste energy through improving existing waste energy recovery (WER) technologies and proposing novel WER strategies that maximize WER have the potential to be extremely valuable.

An Analysis of the Relationship between College Football Fans and their Rival Teams

The current study explored how fan identification and negative rival perception affect the decision to blast or support the rival in indirect competition in college football. 258 participants (M age=24.15, 51.16% female) responded after being targeted via social media, email, and in person. Fans higher in identification had a more negative rival perception, were more likely to blast the rival, and were less likely to support the rival in indirect competition. A negative rival perception increased blasting and decreased rival support. The results contribute to current literature on rivalry and fan identification and aid marketers in marketing segmentation and targeting new segments to increase viewership and attendance.

A New Perspective on Giving-Up Density Experiments and the Landscape of Fear

Non-consumptive effects that predators have on prey are important to ecosystems. The perceived risk of predation can alter feeding behavior. Giving-up density (GUD) experiments have been a foundational method to evaluate perceived predation risk, but rely on the assumption that food preferences are absolute. However, nutritional preferences are context dependent and can change with risk. In my first chapter, I used spiders and grasshoppers to test the hypothesis that covariance in nutritional preferences and risk may confound the interpretation of GUD experiments. My results demonstrate that predation risk and nutritional preferences covary and can confound interpretation of GUD experiments. In my second chapter, I use a behavioral observation experiment to further explore non-consumptive effects, as well as the movement of prey in response to predation risk.

Sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsarbete har förändrats genom tiderna. I början av 1900-talet var sjuksköterskeyrket ett kall, vilket huvudsakligen innefattades av att se till att smittosamma sjukdomar inte spreds vidare, samt hålla patienten ren. Idag innefattar sjuksköterskeyrket ett mer komplext arbete där administration, specialistvård, teknik, patientnära omvårdnad samt kontakt med andra yrkeskategorier och instanser ska vävas samman. Syftet med den här pilotstudien var att belysa hur fördelningen av sjuksköterskans arbetsuppgifter ser ut över dygnets 24 timmar. Strukturerad observationsmetod användes för datainsamling. Observationer utfördes på en infektionsavdelning i södra Sverige och tre sjuksköterskor observerades. Det kvantitativa materialet analyserades genom deskriptiv statistik. Resultatet kunde delas in i två kategorier; direkt- och indirekt vård och visade att fördelningen av sjuksköterskans arbete över dygnet till störst del bestod av indirekt vård vilket utgjordes till 64 % och direkt vård, det vill säga patientnära omvårdnad, utfördes till 33 %, övriga 3 % utgjordes av personalens raster. / The nursing care has changed over time. From being a calling in the beginning of the 20th century with responsibility and obligations like prevent contagious diseases to spread and to keep the patient clean. Nowadays a more complex work and responsibilities has occurred containing; administration, specialist care, technique, close patient care and contact with other profession’s and authority’s. The aim of this pilot study was to illustrate the distribution of the nurses’ work over a 24-hour period. A structured observational method was used in order to the gather data. The observations took place at an infection department in southern Sweden, and three nurses were observed. The material was analyzed quantitatively with descriptive statistics. The results could be divided in two categories; direct- and indirect care and it appeared that indirect care amounted to 64 % over a 24-hour period, and direct care amounted to 33 %, the last 3 % represent the nurses’ food and coffee breaks.

Introduction: Changes in eating habits and incorporation of physical activities remain to be the main methods in treating obesity. To set an adequate calorie intake, which would lead to weight loss, it is necessary to determine energy needs of an individual. For that energy intake and energy expenditure need to be determinate. However, energy expenditure is difficult to determine since it is contributed of three components. Basal, respectively resting metabolic rate (RMR), which is affected by a body composition, has the greatest influence on a total energy expenditure. Indirect calorimetry (IC) is considered to be a gold standard to determine RMR. When RMR is calculated by prediction equations instead, such as Harris-Benedict (H-B) equation, energy needs are overestimate or underestimate for people with abnormal body composition. Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyse data of RMR obtained using IC in connection to body composition. The main aim is to determine how fat free mas (FFM) and fat mass (FM) are affecting RMR in obese patients. There is also a comparation of RMR measured by the IC and RMR calculated using H-B equation as a part of this study, while IC is considered to be a reference method.
