[en] AN ANALYSIS OF THE DESIGNER S ROLE IN THE INTERNET OF THINGS / [pt] UMA ANÁLISE DO PAPEL DOS DESIGNERS NA INTERNET DAS COISAS

CELSO MEIRELLES DE OLIVEIRA SANTOS 09 May 2018 (has links)
[en] We are already living under the impact of what is considered the beginnings of the Third Wave of Information Technology or the Fourth Industrial Revolution, represented mainly by the advent of IOT (Internet of Things). This true invasion of new technologies is already starting to dramatically change the way we live, communicate, and work. The main objective of this dissertation is not only to evaluate the traditional methodology of design and the challenges that these new technologies of the IOT bring to the development of the work of the designers, but mainly to analyze how they must qualify to maintain their position of relevance in the development of the new products that characterize IOT, as defined by Porter and Heppelman (2014). Based on a thorough bibliographical and documentary research, I have tried to examine the new technologies and the components and services that are enabling the creation of these intelligent products, pinpoint the principal companies that are in the forefront of this revolution, research the areas in which these new products are already making a difference, indicate the changes and challenges that they present us with and see how and why companies that manufacture products are transforming themselves into production / services companies, or solely services companies. I also try to map the impact that these new technologies will have on the business models, design, marketing, engineering and relationships with the users of the services and products that incorporate them.

INTERNET OF THINGS INOM DRIFT OCH UNDERHÅLL I FÖRVALTNINGSSKEDET / INTERNET OF THINGS IN FACILITY MANAGEMENT; OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

Björkdahl, Elin, Stadler, Julia January 2017 (has links)
Abstract Purpose: This work presents Internet of Things or IoT in facility management; operation and maintenance. One of the many functions of IoT is making “smart” building components, which can communicate when they break and can be controlled from a distance. Today there are many articles on how you can use IoT in buildings but not as many on how you can use it in operation and maintenance of real estates. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities of IoT in facility management; operation and maintenance work. This is investigated by the questions: (1) How can IoT be used in the facility management; operation andmaintenance work? (2) What are the savings in terms of workhours that can be made by using IoT in facility management; operation and maintenance work? (3) What is the attitude to IoT in the facility management industry? Method: The main strategy for this thesis is a case study in the facility section of the municipality in Jönköping. Approaches include interviews with IoT-consultants and employers at the facility section, document analysis of the workhours for different tasks of a operation technician and a literature study. Findings: The first question is answered by that IoT can be used for almost everything because of the huge amount of sensor types and that new ones are constantly in the making. You can also make unique IoT systems which contributes to the flexibility. The limits today are costs and finding value in the collected data. The second question is answered by that saving possibilities exists. Calculations are made based on attitudes from respondents and what they think are possible savings. This results in savings of about 13 000 workhours/year out of 30 000 workhours/year which equals 40 %. The third question is answered by that both employers at the facility section and IoT-consultants find IoT in facility management interesting. Of the different work-categories, it is interesting to mention that the most positive are the real estate managers and the maintenance engineers and the least positive are the operation technicians. Implications: Conclusions made are that the possibilities of IoT in facility management; operation and maintenance are many. In the future, a lot of savings of workhours can be made by using IoT. Since interest in IoT exists at the facility-section future studies should explore the costs of different IoT-systems. If the municipality of Jönköping chooses to implement IoT in their facilities they can become a role model for other facility managers. Limitations: The limitations in this work are the different costs of IoT-products and how the IoT-systems are built. The work tasks investigated include only supervision-tasks.

Lindh, André January 2020 (has links)
This literature review aims to identify the security challenges facing 5G and Internet of Things. The literature review uses a systematic method for reviewing written by Okoli (2015). During the review, 60 articles were initially selected. These were screened from a number of quality criteria until 19 articles remained. Furthermore, the security challenges presented in these 19 articles are divided into their respective subject areas and based on whether the article writes about security threats or security control. The results give an overview of which of these subjects are most commonly written about in relation to security, 5G and Internet of Things. The review sheds light on the absence of certain threats and their respective controls. The review also sheds light on the absence of a holistic perspective when regarding security in the context of 5G and Internet of Things.

Internet of Things i kommunala bostadsbolag : Nyttor och förväntningar

Falkeman, Mats January 2020 (has links)
This qualitative study evaluates what the Internet of Things (IoT) can bring to create benefits in municipal housing companies. Since 2014, there has been a guide from the Swedish Agency for Digital Administration regarding benefits realization that describes how organizations can work to implement IT projects and realize target images, by focusing on the underlying benefits. The issues that this study focuses on are benefits and expectations from completed IoT projects. To answer these questions, five interviews and a pilot study, based on a framework for benefit realization, were conducted with people representing a large number of municipalities in Sweden. The respondents have had good insight into how the operations work in the IoT technology area. The main conclusion of the study is that the work with benefits, has a small role in the organizations consulted. Many of the obstacles identified in the study show that active management is required to change the culture around IoT projects and that the business focuses on the benefits behind the IoT solutions rather than the artifacts themselves. Previous research has shown that IoT is a disruptive innovation, which requires new thinking and other types of skills. Most organizations have built up their own infrastructures with pre-packaged services that have been offered to the businesses in order to create interest and let the businesses themselves discover the benefits that the technology can bring.

Managing Organizational Adoption of IoT : Revisiting Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation Theory

Gomes, Rafael, Osman, Sema Seyfi January 2019 (has links)
As a disruptive innovation, IoT has been creating a high impact over organizations’ current strategies and business models. This continuous process of change will have an increasing influence on how organizations and industries as a whole conduct their businesses, and is set to have an active role towards the development of entirely new business models and markets. With the development of IoT technologies, and its predicted exponential spread across all sectors of society, one can conclude that the future holds many opportunities for organizations looking to explore new ways of capturing and creating value, but at the same time there are also plenty of challenges to be addressed. While the diffusion and adoption process of IoT has been an ongoing phenomenon over the past decade, there is still not much certitude as to how organizations ought to adjust in order to successfully integrate IoT technologies in their structure and operations. In parallel fashion, there have also been many difficulties in ensuring that different smart, connected devices and ecosystems are able to effectively communicate between each other, as achieving interoperability has become one of the major concerns associated with IoT. The main focus of this study is to analyze the process of how organizations are currently integrating IoT within their businesses, while also investigating causes that hinder interoperability, and evaluating the future potential deployment of the Open IoT ecosystems in companies. For our research we have followed a case-study approach where we conducted semi-structured interviews with managers and project leaders from two organizations conducting pilot studies on Green IoT and Open IoT, and where one has been adopting IoT technologies in its business. Theoretically, we draw on a framework by combining Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovations theory and Christensen’s theory of Disruptive Innovations in order to analyze the integration of IoT into businesses’ core structure. The research goes through a functional framework that outlines the process of IoT adoption while also presenting the present challenges that are faced by the actors in the industry and the key enablers for successful IoT integration.
