Keep track of your development of professional competencies with a gamified mobile application

Axelsson, Adam, Bredberg, August, Jerndal, Petter, Norén, Erik January 2021 (has links)
The SkillMill project is an initiative co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The primary goal is to provide students who study abroad a way to keep track of the existence and development of their professional competencies. These competencies include skills like interacting with colleagues, how you solve problems, and how you plan your work. These competencies are highly sought after by employers, and according to some employers, many candidates lack the necessary professional competencies they need to be effective in the working environment. We provide the SkillMill project with a mobile application in which the target group, students, can keep a journal about transformative experiences. The created mobile application serves as a foundation for the SkillMill project to build upon further to allow users to identify, understand and verbalize their professional competencies. A usability test was used to evaluate the design of the application, which showed that the design works well.

Sadness and Repetition

Hed, Lovisa January 2024 (has links)
This paper presents my Masters project Sadness and Repetition. The project is centered around artistic expression and repetitive processes serving a journal-keeping. This process is inspired partly by ancient traditions of prayer beads and partly by modern cultural practices of documenting everyday life through diaries. Drawing from previous work on other people’s feelings of sorrow, this project focuses on my own personal experience of everyday sadness. The journal-keeping consists of handmade steel links, connected into chains, on the one hand, and the deconstruction of a rag rug on the other. The work is framed in a wider context of personal trauma, societal mental health issues as well as female perspective.

Community- based service-learning through reflective practice.

Julie, Hester January 2004 (has links)
Magister Curationis / Domestic violence is a pervasive problem in South Africa. The School of Nursing at the University of Western Cape has responded to the challenge of training sensitive, knowledgeable and skilled health personnel by developing a Management of Gender- Based Violence Module. The purpose of this study is to describe the professional and personal development of nursing students who were placed at the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Abused Women and Children for the service-learning trial run of this Gender- Based Violence module in 2003. A qualitative, contextual, and descriptive design was therefore used to provide rich information from in-depth descriptions of students’ perceptions and experiences with regard to the service-learning module. Purposive, convenient sampling was used because the key informants, 27 female students involved in the trial run of the module, were selected to “illuminate" the research question. Content analysis was done and to ensure credibility, data triangulation was done using focus group, project reports and the students’ journals. Informed consent to use data from the previously mentioned sources was obtained from students. The overall findings indicate that the service-learning programme allowed students to achieve the goals defined by the community, services and the university. Students came to understand the supportive roles that health professionals can play and recognised that the development of the attributes of caring, advocacy and civic ngagement is essential to their professional development. Comments in their reflective journals revealed that students valued their service-learning experience, and believed that this experience would expand into future collaborative relationships within civil society. The recommendation is that further in depth research be conducted given the promise shown by this educational approach. / South Africa

The First Interactive Medium : How a Player Can Change a Game & How a Game Can Change a Player

Taherkhani, Kiarash January 2023 (has links)
This thesis explores the transformative potential of the co-authorship dynamic between game developers and players in The Squared Circle, an abstract video game designed to facilitate personality development. Drawing inspiration from existentialist philosophy, psychotherapy, and game design, the study examines the intricate interplay between gameplay mechanics, narrative depth, and psychological exploration. Employing a research-through-design methodology, the researcher analyzes The Squared Circle’s elements through psychological, philosophical, and ludological literature. The game's initial focus on engaging gameplay mechanics evolved to incorporate textual significance and symbolic play, inspired by Carl Jung's theory of Individuation. Through playtesting, observations, and interviews, the study investigates the psychological and philosophical effects of the game. Players engage in symbolic representation and journaling, delving into their unconscious aspects and exploring personal experiences within the game world. The co-authorship dynamic fosters introspection expands self-understanding, and invites transformative experiences. The findings highlight the significance of journaling and symbolic play as tools for personal growth and self-expression within the game. Players navigate the symbolic landscape, uncover hidden meanings, and co-create their own narrative, leading to increased self-awareness and psychological integration. This research contributes to understanding games as a medium for personal transformation and psychological exploration. The study underscores the importance of co-authorship, journaling, and symbolic representation in designing games that facilitate introspection, meaningful experiences, and the development of the player's personality.

Bee Me and the rest of Nature : Reflecting on our actions through holistically sustainable beehotels engraved with mental strengthealing journaling tools. / Bee Me and the rest of Nature : Reflecting on our actions through holistically sustainable beehotels engraved with mental strengthealing journaling tools.

Gons, Cornelie Amber January 2023 (has links)
This project is about creating for/with humans and the rest of nature. The design is composed of five holistically sustainable beehotels with mental strengthealing journaling tools engraved into them. These beehotels have shifted away from anthropocentrism and are instead geared towards the needs of the pollinators, they are fully created from the forest they are made for. And the journaling exercises have been created to encourage self-exploration to recognize our own strength and build emotional intelligence. The entire design is a way to reflect on our actions.

Janzen, Renee Marie 01 January 2012 (has links)
In an attempt to examine the effects of journaling and vocabulary strategies on elementary students’ attitudes towards mathematical performance, I embedded reflective journaling and vocabulary strategies into my fourth grade mathematics curriculum. The mathematics content focused on whole number place value, multiplication, and division. My study revealed the positive effects these interventions can have on elementary students’ attitudes towards mathematics.
