AbstractScientists trying to find biological controls for insect pests are hamperedd by the absence of rapid methods for screening organisms such as bacteria for potential pathogenicity. An organism must grow in the gut of the insect to be pathogenic. By using radioisotopes as tracers a quick method of screening potential insect pathogens may be developed.Escherichia coli and Sarcina flava were used as known nonpathogens and Bacillus thuringiensis was used as a known pathogen. In this work an attempt was made to verify the presence of bacteria in specific tissues of the insects.European corn borer larvae were fed 1-C14 palmitic acid and labeled E. coli, S. flava and B. thuringiensis. Parasaggital sections were made of the corn borers and radioautograms were made of the sections. Grain counts over a 2,000 u2 area were made of various tissues and compared.There was a statistically significant difference in the distribution of label in corn borer larvae fed labeled bacteria as compared to corn borers fed 1-C14 palmitic acid. Label tended to incorporate into fatty tissue in the corn borers.If this technique can be used to positively demonstrate the establishment of selected bacteria in the gut of the insect then it may be possible to use such methods to screen for potential insect pathogens and give insight into the mechanisms which result in the death of insects.Ball State UniversityMuncie, IN 47306

As far as the reception is concerned, it was privileged a case study and it was made an analysis of a research of two groups of students from the eight grade of a public school, in Cornélio Procópio, Paraná state, during the whole year of 2000, after the reading of Corda bamba. Verificamos, na ficção brasileira infanto-juvenil contemporânea, uma série de aspectos envolvendo personagens, narradores, cenários que favorecem uma abordagem crítica baseada na presença do duplo. Podemos observar a presença do duplo na obra de Lygia Bojunga, objeto desta dissertação, que tem por finalidade principal identificar e analisar algumas das manifestações do duplo em nove de suas vinte e duas obras: A bolsa amarela (1976), Tchau (1984), Nós Três (1987), Livro: um encontro com Lygia Bojunga (1988), Fazendo Ana Paz (1991), Seis vezes Lucas (1995), O abraço (1995), Dos vinte 1 (2007), Querida (2009). Como base teórica, utilizamos textos de Otto Rank, Nicole Bravo, Berenice Sica Lamas, entre outros. Num segundo momento, identificamos as manifestações do duplo nas narativas de Lygia Bojunga. O duplo aparece na ficção da autora como representação das incompatibilidades do ser humano, que levam à fragmentação do eu. O encontro do eu e o outro, nem sempre amistoso, nos traz questões que servem de base para a pesquisa do duplo na obra de Lygia Bojunga. Por fim, o trabalho metaficcional presente na obra desta autora também foi analisado como forma de manifestação do duplo / In the contemporary Brazilian juvenile fiction, it was found a series of aspects - involving characters, narrators, scenarios - that promote a critical approach based on the presence of the double. It is possible to note the presence of the double in the literary work of Lygia Bojunga, subject of this dissertation, whose main purpose is to identify and analyze some manifestations of the double in the author's novels and short stories. For such, a corpus of nine out of her twenty-two works was selected: A bolsa amarela (1976), Tchau (1984), Nós Três (1987), Livro: um encontro com Lygia Bojunga (1988), Fazendo Ana Paz (1991), Seis vezes Lucas (1995), O abraço (1995), Dos vinte 1 (2007), Querida (2009). As a theoretical background, texts of Otto Rank, Nicole Bravo and Berenice Sica Lamas were used, amongst others. Furthermore, the manifestations of the double were identified in Lygia's narratives. The double appears in fiction as the author's representation of the human incompatibilities, which lead to the fragmentation of the self. The encounter of the self and the other, not always friendly, bring us issues that underpin the research on the double in the work of Lygia Bojunga. Finally, the metafictional work disclosed in this author's literature was also analyzed as a manifestation of the double

Procuramos na primeira parte definir literatura e literatura infanto-juvenil; discutimos em seguida as nuances da literatura infantil, infanto-juvenil e a pedagogia numa tentativa de esclarecimentos sobre estes assuntos polêmicos. Nosso trabalho abordou também o conceito de leitura partindo dos métodos utilizados no Brasil para o aprendizado até o conceito de texto e sua diversidade, existente nos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PNCs). Em seguida analisamos literariamente o texto de Chamlian, O boy da Via Láctea e o conto de Gogol, O capote comparando-os, já que há uma intertextualidade declarada por parte da autora citada. A segunda parte compreendeu a recepção do texto e para isso utilizamos a transcrição de uma entrevista realizada com alunos de uma oitava série de uma escola pública de Assis, SP, no ano de 2000. / This research aimed at the study of the infant-juvenile book: O boy da Via Láctea , by Regina Chamlian; the writer used the intertext and was based on O capote, by the Russian writer Gogol recreating the text and adapting it to the today's world. We sought in its first part to define literature and infant-juvenile literature; and after that, we discussed the nuances of infant literature, infant-juvenile literature and the pedagogy in an attempt to explain these polemic subjects. Our work also approached the concept of literature from the learning methods in use in Brazil to the concept of text and its diversity, present in the Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCNs). After that, we analyzed the text O boy da Via Láctea, by Chamlian and the short story, O capote, by Gogol comparing them as there is an intertextuality according to the first quoted author. The second part comprehended receiving of the text and for these purpose we used the transcription of an interview carried out with students of an eighth grade class in a public school in Assis - SP, in the year 2000.

As narrativas analisadas são: De piolho a garrote (1984); A marca de uma lágrima (1986); O fantástico mistério de Feiurinha (1986); Na colméia do inferno (1991), De punhos cerrados (2005) e Garrote, menino coragem (2009). Estas três últimas narrativas correspondem à reescrita do título de 1984. A análise descritiva destes quatro títulos que correspondem sempre a uma mesma história possibilitou a discussão das diferenças e semelhanças entre as quatro versões e permitiu levantar algumas das razões pelas quais nenhum deles obteve o sucesso de mercado e a crítica favorável alcançados pelos dois títulos lançados em 1986, apesar dos esforços do escritor para que isso ocorresse, reescrevendo continuamente a história original. A análise das narrativas foi realizada com base em conceitos de teóricos da literatura como: Gerard Genette, Claude Brémond, Algirdas Julien Greimas, Vladimir Iakovlevich Propp, Tzvetan Todorov, dentre outros / The present study was categorized in two volumes which analyze six juvenile narratives of Pedro Bandeira (1942), organize a complete bibliography from Pedro Bandeira’s work from 1976 to 2010, and group a pull of 50 interviews granted by this author during that same period of time. The scrutinized narratives were: De piolho a garrote (1984), A marca de uma lágrima (1986), O fantástico mistério de Feiurinha (1986), Na colméia do inferno (1991), De punhos cerrados (2005), and Garrote, menino coragem (2009). These last three narratives are a rewriting of the title from 1984. The descriptive analysis of these four titles, which always keep up a correspondence to the same story, enabled a discussion between differences and similarities among the four versions, and allowed to raise a few reasons why none of them achieved the market success or the favorable critique accomplished by the two titles released in 1986, despite the writer’s effort for that to happen by rewriting the original story repeatedly. Neste sentido, acreditamos na possibilidade de o autor ser visto como integrante da galeria dos nossos pensadores sociais, pois nossa hipótese é que em seu gênero literário infantil ressoa uma visão de país, um diagnóstico e um projeto de futuro para o Brasil. Desta forma, colocamos em discussão a possibilidade de tomar esta literatura como um elemento de compreensão da realidade social brasileira a partir da qual foi composta (nos anos 20 e 30 do século passado). Assim, pretendemos ver na obra de Lobato uma crítica à sociedade em que vivia, enquanto escritor que além de estar preocupado com as questões estéticas e lingüísticas do seu tempo, sempre esteve atento também em formular críticas à nossa “parasitia intelectual”, aos intelectuais e a elite que, segundo ele, assistia de braços cruzados aos diversos problemas de ordem social política e econômica, sem propor alternativas de mudanças. / This research aims to discern what would be the project of nation - we understand nation as a social political project - in the work dedicated to Monteiro Lobato's young public ( 1882- 1948 ), also known as a pedagogic literature. Therein, we believe in the possibility of the author be seen as a member of our social thinkers group, since our hypothesis is that in his juvenile literary gender there is a country vision, a diagnostic and a future project to Brazil. Therefore, we take in discussing the possibility of considering this literature as an element to understand the Brazilian social reality that was constituted in the twenties and thirties years of the last century. We intend to see in Monteiro Lobato's work, one critic of the society that he lived, like a writer that besides being worried about the esthetics and linguistics questions of his time was also always ready to formulate critics, to the intellectuals and to the elite that, according to him, were just observing the social, economical and political problems without proposing any changing alternatives.
