Yakouben, Hanafi 14 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Martins, Isabel Amaral January 2005 (has links)
Endogenous hormones and environmental stimuli during the neonatal period appear to be determinant to program the behavioral and neuroendocrine profile in adult life. The purpose of the present study was to analyze the interaction between gonadal hormones and handling stimulation during the neonatal period on plasma corticosterone, gonadotrophins (luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones), and gonadal hormones (estradiol, progesterone and testosterone) in adult male and female rats. For experimental groups, newborn Wistar pups were gonadectomized, or submitted to sham surgery or kept without surgery, at up to 6 hours after delivery. These pups were or stimulated daily by experimental handling, or kept without handling, during the first 10 postnatal days. For another experimental groups, males were stimulated daily on neonatal period (until 10 postnatal days) and gonadectomized at 80 days. Only neonatal handling shows no differences on plasma corticosterone and gonadotrophins, both in male or female rats, but reduced gonadal hormones in female rats. While handling in neonatal gonadectomized females induced a lesser increase in corticosterone response compared with the non-handled ones, in males, the absence of the gonadal hormones abolished the reduction of the stress response induced by neonatal gonadectomy in the non-handled group. Handling increased the negative feedback responsiveness to gonadotrophins of neonatal gonadectomized male and female rats. But, adult gonadectomy of neonatal handled males induced a lesser increase in LH compared with the non-handled ones. It is noteworthy that those castration performed just after birth, provoked the absence of the hormones occurred throughout the life of the animal. In females, early life environmental stimulation occurred upon a nervous system that has not been under the influence of gonadal hormones. In males, besides pre-natal effects of gonadal steroids, an interaction between environmental stimulation and hormonal effects during the neonatal period probably occurred. Environmental stimulation during the neonatal period and gonadal hormones interact and exert a profound long-lasting impact on the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal stress system and also on the reproductive neuroendocrine control mechanisms in adulthood.

Partage du soufre et du platine entre un réservoir métallique et un réservoir silicaté lors de la formation du noyau terrestre / Metal-silicate partitioning of sulfur and platinum during terrestrial core formation

Suer, Terry-Ann 01 December 2016 (has links)
Measurements of the metal-silicate partitioning behavior of siderophile and volatile elements at the conditions of the deep primitive Earth can provide constraints on the mechanisms of terrestrial core formation. Experiments were conducted in a laser-heated diamond anvil cell to investigate the metal-silicate partitioning of sulfur and platinum at high pressures and temperatures. The partitioning behaviors were quantified post-experiment by high resolution NanoSIMS imaging. Sulfur was found to be moderately siderophile at core formation conditions and this, together with cosmochemical estimates, argue that it cannot be a major light element in the core. Accretion modeling with this new partitioning data implies that a heterogeneous accretion scenario can best explain the mantle and bulk Earth sulfur contents. The measured partitioning values for platinum are such that the mantle's platinum abundance can be sufficiently explained by core-mantle equilibration. Overall these results support the hypothesis that the cores of large impactors did not equilibrate fully with the magma ocean and metal could have sequestered to the Earth's core without leaving a record in the mantle. A late sulfide segregation event also likely played a role in establishing the observed mantle compositions. These findings help to further elucidate the accretion history of the Earth and core-mantle differentiation processes.

The control of prolactin secretion and the role of gonadotrophin releasing hormone in the production of concordant secretory spikes of luteinizing hormone and prolactin in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle

Kaplan, Hilton January 1988 (has links)
The control of prolactin secretion is a complex interaction of peptides and neurotransmitters acting either in an inhibitory or stimulating way to effect final secretion of this hormone from the lactotrope cell in the anterior hypothalamus. These factors may act either directly on the lactotrope cell or indirectly by changing either dopamine restraint of prolactin secretion or by modulating peptide substances or neurotransmitters higher up in the hypothalamus. Gonadal steroids may also modulate the effect of peptides or dopamine at the level of the lactotrope. Prolactin's major role in the female rat is one of milk production post - partum, nurturing the young. It probably also has other physiological functions and may play a part in the menstrual cycle although this is controversial. Certainly, pulsatile secretion of prolactin during the menstrual cycle is well established and in the luteal phase this is concomitant with the secretion of luteinizing hormone. Theories explaining the synchronous surges seen during this phase of the menstrual cycle have been proposed and GnRH has been implicated in the genesis of the concordance of these secretory spikes. Using a potent GnRH antagonist an experiment was undertaken to establish the role of GnRH by blocking this hypothalamic peptide and observing the effect that this had on luteinizing hormone, prolactin and follicle stimulating hormone. In the first part of the thesis the control of prolactin secretion is reviewed. In the following section, an experiment was performed using a potent GnRH antagonist. A dose response curve was established for the antagonist action on LH. Then a twice maximum dose of this peptide was administered to three subjects in the midluteal phase of the menstrual cycle and the response of LH, prolactin and FSH was measured. The results indicate that although the GnRH antagonist significantly blocked LH secretory peaks, this action was not observed for either prolactin or FSH. This result is perhaps at variance with previous data which suggested that GnRH was responsible for concordant secretory spikes of LH and prolactin in the midluteal phase of the menstrual cycle.

Der Begriff des Fake

Römer, Stefan 09 July 1998 (has links)
The concept of Fake describes a mimetic imitation of another work of art which, in contrast to forgery, hints at its faked nature. A female artist reproduced photographs by Walker Evans and presented these photographs like the original; the title, "Sherrie Levine After Walker Evans" identifies the work as an appropriation which reflects the contextually and conceptually changed conditions of the identical image. Accordingly, the fake aims at an art historical cognitive process by means of an exact examination of the respective artwork: The reproduction is no longer morally condemned as forgery, but the fake is regarded as criticism of the institution of art and its ideology of the orginal. The first chapter deals with the new artistic strategies at the beginning of the 1970s and, in a discursive analysis, the historical literature of Fake as well as with the relation of orginal and forgery in distinction to the concept of "Fake". In the second chapter seven examples of Fake are examined for their conceptual formation. The third and last chapter is a description of the far reaching consequences of Fake for image and art theory in relation to social developments.

Bewegendes Sammeln

Romelli, Tiziana 28 April 2010 (has links)
The study compares the history of two Renaissance collections, the "studiolo" of Isabella d’Este (1474-1539) and the "petit cabinet" of Margaret of Austria (1480-1530), two extraordinary art experts and collectors sixteenth century. They modelled a new type of knowledge by their method of acquisition as they created an interpretative classification of the world through the use of structure and visualisation. The work focuses on the concepts of knowledge inscribed into the visual structure of those two collections and the pedagogical approaches they enacted. Isabella d’Este’s and Margaret of Austria’s collection rooms became a landmark in a development, which only came into being in northern Europe in the second half of the sixteenth century. This is, in part, due to the fact that the understanding, promotion and acquisition of art became an important aspect of courtly self representation. Furthermore, their collection represents an early form of collection space which created the foundation for future educational processes. Therefore, this work is aims to be a historiography of an educational process as well as the reconstruction and analysis of an implicit pedagogical program. Following an interdisciplinary approach, the research is designed to systematically and historically reconstruct the order, production and representation of knowledge within its social context. The comparative approach aims to grasp the specific pedagogical perspective of each collection. Furthermore it focuses on parallels of their concern of transformation and the functionality of such extraordinary collection activities. Analytical categories such as space, time and hierarchies are used in the analysis of the primary sources. In this way, the collections and corresponding materials will be analysed in order to explain how the implicit educational program can be understood as a forerunner of an educational theory.

: abandon et nouvelle occupation d’habitats, de lieux de sépulture et de lieux de culte / Site relocation in the Cyclades from the 12th century to the 8th century BCE : abandonment and formation of settlements, burial sites and cult places

Sanchez, Irène 12 December 2015 (has links)
This doctoral thesis aims at defining and establishing the main characteristics of site relocations, which took place in the Cyclades from the 12th to the 8th centuries BCE. According to scholars who have addressed this form of human mobility and drawn contrasting conclusions, site relocation is a three-stage process: a settlement along with its burial sites and cult places are abandoned, its community moves away and resettles a short distance away, on the very same island. This pattern is placed under scrutiny. First, data is collected in order to describe the islands’ settlement patterns over the period. Abandoned sites and newly occupied sites are recorded; settlement discontinuities are highlighted. Some hypothetical instances of site relocations are suggested. Conclusions are all the more tenuous as they derive from the analysis of artefacts. However, the thirty-two islands that have been investigated seem to follow about the same patterns: site relocation is indeed a relevant notion. Yet, this type of human spatial mobility appears to be far more complex than originally believed, notably in terms of planning and factors. The time span is divided into the LH IIIC, Protogeometric and Geometric periods and site relocation’s definition varies accordingly. Communities probably moved from site to site in the LH IIIC period: the Cyclades were not altogether abandoned. From the 10th century onwards, including the Geometric period, site relocations grew rare or were not completed. This dissertation tentatively models a category of human mobility while trying to offer some insight into the social organisation of communities, which remains a focus of scholarly attention.

The eCG molecule consists of a glycoprotein composed of two subunits called alpha and beta which together perform the function of both LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and due to this characteristic has great potential to induce ovulation in household species. Based on the aforementioned characteristics, the present work was was aimed at the study and characterization of the structure of eCG using molecular modeling techniques as well as testing its production in cells of the microorganism Pichia pastoris. Furthermore, chimeric models have been proposed linking the eCG and immunoglobulin G (IgG) molecule based on studies that reveal the great potential of it in raising the half-life of other molecules circulating in the organism. Four chimeric models were prepared so that the eCG alpha and beta chains are connected by a hinge, short and flexible regions, while the terminal region of the alpha chain was connected to the N-terminal portion of the CH2 domain of the IgG by another hinge region, thus resulting in a model in which two different molecules are linked.
