The object of this study is the knowledge of learning teachers who are well evaluated by students. The main objective of this work is know the learning evaluation made by teachers who are well evaluated by students in Education and Dental courses of University Centre of Anapolis, UniEvangelica, in Goiás. The investigation has a qualitative approach with basis on ethnography. It is the right approach to this kind of research because it is characterized by direct contact with the situation investigated. This research is structured into four chapters. The first chapter presents the theoretical basis about High Evaluation, Good teaches in High Education and Learning Evaluation. The second chapter tells about how the research was made. In the third chapter is presented and analyzed the evaluation made by teachers. The fourth chapter is a conclusion about the study. The results of this work show that the learning evaluation practiced by teachers in those courses is in one hand, in Dental course, it is relation to a conception of evaluation as a measure of learning. In this conception there is the use of different ways of evaluating the student, however, this practice, does not mean the conception of a formative evaluation. Though, these teachers show in their speeches that a new approach to evaluation is necessary, their actions show that it is not happen in classroom practice at all. In other hand, In Education course it is possible evaluation is portrayed as a promotional practice of student. It shows to be an inclusive practice in relation to student and Knowledge. It is a formative, continued and systemic evaluation. It is an evaluation that makes possible to students relation their theoretical and practical knowledge. It is an evaluation that helps the student how to learn. In this way, the conclusion is that the evaluation that is made by these teachers is in the context of advances and reverses, of contradictions that are lived and spoken. There are desires to changing, and the teachers recognize that evaluation is a hard and complex practice. On the other hand they want to advance, but they don t know how to do that. At least, there is a courage in some of them, and they made the changing happen.

Estudos comparativos sobre a elaboração de mapas conceituais durante processo de avaliação da aprendizagem: identificando a importância das demandas e do efeito de preparação / Comparative studies on concept maps elaboration for assessment of learning: identifying the importance of demands and the preparation effect

Anderson Dias Viana 06 April 2016 (has links)
Concept maps are graphical tools that allows the representation of the student\'s mental models. Due to this capacity, the concept map can be used as an assessement tool of knowledge. The use of this tool in the classroom generates loads in working memory which can be related to the content (intrinsic load) or how this feature is being used in the classroom (extrinsic load). This study aims to investigate how the concept maps help to assess learning in the Natural Science: Science, Culture and Society course offered at the University of São Paulo for students of various undergraduate courses (n = 64) during the 2013.1 on the content of climate change. In the course, conceptual map could be used as a preparation tool for test (CM-PREP) and was also used as part of the formal evaluation of the course (CM-EVAL). This research is composed of three studies that investigate: 1. Differences in conceptual maps profiles obtained on condition of CM-PREP x CMEVAL; 2. If the group of students who took CM-PREP had a different profile in CMAVAL of those who did not; 3. The existence of a correlation between CM-EVAL features with the declarative knowledge of students. Concept maps were evaluated considering structural and semantic aspects. The methodologies of analyzes are taken from other papers. Among the semantic aspects were the use of instructional materials, the nature of the propositions, the presence of errors and adhesion to focus question. In addition to these analyzes, it was verified the presence of natural groups that could be explained with the use of theoretical categories. Analysis of the results indicates that the conceptual maps of the CM-PREP and CM-EVAL conditions are quite distinct from each other as it catered to different educational goals. At the Study 2, it was found that the CM-PREP not strongly influenced the development of CM-EVAL, as the reduction of extrinsic charge caused by CM-PREP elaboration was not enough to show differences between the groups, since both were highly trained in conceptual mapping technique. Finally, in Study 3, the main factor correlating the declarative knowledge to the complexity of the conceptual maps was the percentage of appropriate propositions. We concluded that the demand of elaboration of the conceptual map is actually the guide to the type of conceptual map obtained, the elaboration of CM-PREP does not change in a well-trained group in the technique and the main method of assessing concept maps should be reading its propositions.

[en] CO-NARRATION IN PEDAGOGICAL MEETING: THE FAMILY-SCHOOL RELATIONSHIP IN THE CONTEXT OF LEARNING ASSESSMENT / [pt] CONARRAÇÃO EM REUNIÃO PEDAGÓGICA: A RELAÇÃO FAMÍLIA-ESCOLA NO CONTEXTO DA AVALIAÇÃO DA APRENDIZAGEM

CÉLIA ELISA ALVES DE MAGALHÃES 09 June 2020 (has links)
[en] In this study, I investigate the family-school relationship in the context of learning assessment – an implicit or explicit source of tension in the school domain – by means of the construction of understandings about experiences lived by teachers in their pedagogical practices, and rebuilt collaboratively in on-going interaction in three pedagogical meetings. The research context is the pedagogical meetings of Elementary and High School teachers of English as a foreign language at a private elite school in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In light of a crtical Applied Linguistics, this qualitative research seeks to promote dialogue between the field of language studies and education, by addressing the relationship between language and society. In the investigation, I also consider the concepts and beliefs about the teaching-learning process and learning assessment that emerge in on-going interaction. For the analysis, I resort to positioning theory in interface with theoretical constructs from narrative studies. Subsidized by pressupositions about co-narration, I employ elements of Labovian narrative and concepts about conversational narrative. Sequentiality and interaction are analyzed in the context shared collectively by teachers, with the embedding of narratives related to their pedagogical practice, involving students and students parents, participants not present in the meetings, brought to interaction by narrativization of the teachers experiences in the school setting. Results reveal that teachers resort to narrativization of experiences from their pedagogical practice in order to express perceptions which are resignified in light of new understandings constructed in interaction. The construction of understandings takes place on two discourse levels: the interactional co-narration and the embedded narratives, and indicates that these teachers pedagogical practice is based on the experiences shared in interaction in pedagogical meetings. The positioning of co-narrators and characters in narrative and the construction of understandings suggest the need of reconfigurations in the family-school relationship regarding teachers, students and parents awareness and fulfillment of responsibilities about the learning assessment so as to avoid transfering responsibilities and blamimg teachers for the unsatisfactory results of students performances. The results foster a discussion about family-school relationship in the context of learning assessment by fousing on five aspects of the learning assessment process: i) the process and its different stages; ii) the assessment result; iii) the teacher’s role in the development of the process; iv) the student s responsibility and autonomy in the construction of the process and in the assessment result; v) the family function in the aforementioned context.

Massé, Camille 08 1900 (has links)
Learning assessment is a central theme in the school context that preoccupies many actors who are involved in the day-to-day life of classrooms and the practices and decisions that are made within them: Departments of Education, school principals, teachers, students and parents. Concurrently, the concepts of efficiency and performance inherent to neoliberalism (Levasseur, 2006) tend to play an increasingly important role in certain management aspects of the Quebec education system, among others (Duclos, 2014). In other education systems, such as Finland’s, it is rather the emphasis on the learning process and supporting the student in this process through evaluation that apparently emerges from the educational discourse. Since learning assessment practices are subject to numerous constraints and social dynamics between several school or out-of-school actors, they can accurately reflect the educational and assessment context in which they are used. However, there are other actors in the school environment can also help us better understand the issues and mechanisms surrounding learning assessment: the students themselves. How do they cope with evaluation in the specific educational context that concerns them? Is it an obligatory step with no real serious consequences, or is it a process that is more difficult for them? In this regard, the literature identifies several significant impacts of evaluation on students. By focusing not only on teachers’ perceptions of such impacts and the elements influencing their evaluative choices, but also on the self-declared evaluative practices of these actors in the school context, we have attempted to understand the evaluative culture of two very distinct contexts: Quebec and Finland. This master’s research aims to explore, from a sociological interactionist point of view, the creation and variation mechanisms of such a culture in different contexts as well as the possible repercussions of this culture on the students. This exploration was made possible by a strong desire to do fieldwork, which led us to conduct interviews with teachers from the two contexts studied.

[en] ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING AND ITS SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS AMONG BIOLOGY TEACHERS IN A LEADING SCHOOL / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO DA APRENDIZAGEM E SUAS REPRESENTAÇÕES SOCIAIS ENTRE PROFESSORES DE BIOLOGIA DE UMA ESCOLA DE REFERÊNCIA

DIEGO MOTA 16 January 2023 (has links)
[en] Analyzing the social representations (SRs) of assessment for learning among Biology teachers in a leading school is the aim of this doctoral thesis. The research was conducted in a renowned public elementary school in Rio de Janeiro. The study is carried out by employing the Social Representation Theory (SRT) under a structural approach perspective and the analysis of its anchors. It is assumed that the specificities of Scientific Disciplines are present in the Biology teachers pedagogical practices of assessment, expressed in their identity and reflected in their way of teaching and evaluating - thus, in their SRs. The methodological procedures occurred in three stages that involved the usage of two questionnaires - a word association test taken by 60 teachers, and a mute zone investigation answered by 45 teachers - and interviews with 12 Biology teachers from the field of research. The discussions were centered on practices of teaching and assessment by using theoretical references such as Hadji, Esteban, Perrenoud, Fernandes, Luckesi, Demo and Hoffmann besides a dialogue with the SRT based on the studies of Moscovici, Jodelet and Abric. Throughout the analysis, it was possible to confirm the hypothesis of a summative pedagogical practice - focused on classification and certification. The data show that most participants SRs of assessment for learning - their view on teaching, syllabus and school - are based on traditional elements of the educational field. It is suggested that an epistemological, social side of Scientific Disciplines is not very evident when these SRs are influenced by both institutional orders and standardized expectations of the role of the teacher. In contrast, a smaller part of the participants stands out in the results: their SRs of assessment approach a formative, procedural and continuous dimension. This latter group of Biology teachers shows strong evidence that their ideas about syllabus innovations of Sciences/Biology are one of the factors associated with a more formative SR that guides their pedagogical practices. It is possible to suggest that the way in which teachers see the reason behind teaching Biology, added to their idealizations of the purpose of the school, are inextricably connected to the implementation of assessment practices that can be either more formative or summative. It is concluded that the assessment practices and their social representations of the Biology teachers who were investigated can carry out a project to support students learning, even in a school context marked by tradition, content and institutional orders with strong normative evaluation processes. The study indicates the need for institutional policies which promote a student-centered assessment - focused on their learning processes. It is of paramount importance for future teachers to experience the practices conceived by the pedagogical field in all stages of their initial and continuing education. The thesis argues that this movement could help overcome a classification model of evaluation in teaching Biology.

An evaluation of the influence of e-learning in adult education with special reference to the employees of Parliament RSA

Mbuli, Fikile 10 1900 (has links)
This study was devoted to researching the effectiveness of e-learning, in terms of the reported experiences of the Language Services section employees in Parliament RSA. At present, the internet is seen as a successful and influential educational tool in both academic and corporate institutions. Academically, it has been adopted for e-learning methods of teaching and learning. It is perceived as a cost-effective method of providing lifelong education. It is important to know about the pros and cons of e-learning in adult education and compare them with the experiences of the people who are and have been engaged in adult education. To create an adult education skills development framework that can be used successfully in e-learning, it is important to get information about and from the people concerned regarding their learning experiences. To understand more about the influence of e-learning, this study administered a questionnaire to the employees of the Language Services Section of Parliament who participated in the pilot learning programmes offered by Parliament. The questionnaire was designed to gather structured responses from the participants in the inquiry. The results were studied and applied to draw recommendations for what can be improved in the programme to promote and endorse continuing learning experiences as is the aim of the in-house programme offered by Parliament. The study also has relevance in terms of a discussion of issues that arise in the literature on adult education, which were located as part of the study. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. Faculty Perspectives of Academic Preparedness of Nontraditional Students Who Earned Prior Learning Assessment Credits

Moseley-Hobbs, Kerri 01 January 2017 (has links)
Through prior learning assessment (PLA) programs, students' professional and life experiences are evaluated to determine if they equate to college program courses-removing the need for the student to complete traditional college courses to earn a postsecondary degree. The purpose of this study was to examine the perspectives of faculty at the study site on the academic preparedness of nontraditional students. Knowles' andragogy theory guided the research questions on the academic preparedness of students earning prior learning credits and what characteristics of PLA programs faculty believe contribute to the academic success of these students. Thirty-six participants completed a survey where they provided narratives that were coded to determine overarching themes. The findings of this case study suggested that faculty believed that nontraditional students who earned credits through PLA are independent, motivated, and knowledgeable, but whether or not they are academically prepared seemed to vary by academic program. The findings also suggested that, while PLA programs have limitations because of student perceptions that may conflict with reality and the limited usability of PLA across academic programs, PLA programs provide a time benefit to students by allowing a shorter time to degree. The study supports positive social change by providing a resource for future development and growth of PLA programs to expand student access and options in obtaining postsecondary credentials while also lowering postsecondary education cost.
