Process handling : A study for optimizing the processes for sourcing IT and managing software licenses / Processhantering : En studie om att optimera processer för inköp av IT och mjukvarulicenshantering

During a six-month period, the author has studied, observed and analyzed the situation within Skanska ITN, headquartered in Haga Norra, Sweden. Licenses and supplier relationships and management of these are areas Skanska ITN, which delivers and manages IT services and products to Skanska AB, would like to have investigated and analyzed. The problem reveals itself in the current situation because there is no process for managing software asset management (SAM), i.e. management of licenses and software. There are significant savings to be made when it comes to managing licenses and dealing with suppliers. The purpose of this paper is to identify the processes in dealing with the sourcing of licenses, products and services related to IT and to propose a suitable recommendation that can be adopted by Skanska ITN and the SAM processes. During the study the author found several factors such as lack of responsibility and a defined purpose of the SAM process, which had been defined by the global IT department (GSU IT). These were affecting the parties involved and their work tasks regarding sourcing and purchasing licenses.   Three suggestions for improvements and implementations have been presented and these are: Connect the SAM and purchase relationship with IT roadmaps and Enterprise Architecthure (EA) Initiate a common platform as a forum for sharing documents and agreements which can be stored and managed by the SM3 model Examine and analyze the licenses and agreements within the current situation. To be able to perform this a common policy and purpose must be defined for a SAM tool. / Under en sexmånadersperiod har författaren studerat, observerat samt analyserat situationen på Skanska ITNs huvudkontor i Haga Norra, Stockholm. Licenser och inköpsrelationer och hantering av dessa är områden som Skanska ITN, vilka leverarar och förvaltar IT tjänster och produkter för Skanska AB, vill ha undersökta och analyserade. Problemet grundar sig i att det i dagsläget ej finns en process för att hantera software asset management (SAM), i.e. hantering av mjukvara och licenser. Det finns betydande besparingar att göra när det kommer till att hantera licenser och relationer med leverantörer. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att identifiera potentiella processer för att hantera inköp av licenser, produkter och tjänster relaterade till IT, samt rekommendera en kvalificerad lösning som kan anammas av Skanska ITN och SAM processerna, vilken kan identifiera svagheter och brister och optimera dessa. Under studiens gång fann författaren faktorer såsom brist på ansvarsområden och syfte med den SAM process som hade definierats av den globala IT avdelningen (GSU IT), vilken påverkar inblandade parter och dess arbetsområden. Tre förslag till förbättringar och implementationer har presenterats och dessa är: Koppla SAM och inköpsrelationen mot IT roadmaps och Enterprise Erchitecture (EA) Initiera en gemensam plattform i form av ett forum där delning av dokument och avtal kan lagras vilken kan förvaltas av SM3 modellen Inventera samt analysera de licenser och avtal som existerar i dagsläget och de som bör omförhandlas. För att det ska kunna ske måste ett syfte och direktiv vara aktuellt för vilket SAM verktyg som ska användas.

Integration Of Computer-based Virtual Check Ride System - Pre-trip Inspection In Commercial Driver License Training Program

Pre-Trip Inspection of the truck and trailer is one of the components of the current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) test. This part of the CDL test checks the ability of the student to identify the important parts of the commercial vehicle and their potential defects. The Virtual Check Ride System (VCRS), a computer-based application, is an assessment and feedback tool that mirrors the inspection component of the actual CDL. The VCRS has provided an after action review (AAR) via a feedback session that helps in identifying and correcting drivers' skill in inspecting parts and for overall safety. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the VCRS in truck driving training programs. An experimental study was conducted with truck driving students at Mid Florida Tech, located in Orlando, Florida. The students were divided into control and experimental groups. Students in the both groups received regular training provided by Mid Florida Tech. The experimental group received additional training by making use of the VCRS. A total of three paper-based tests were given to all subjects during first three weeks; one test at the end of a week. Both groups were given the same paper-based tests. A two-way analysis of variance was conducted to evaluate the effect of the VCRS in the experimental group. This analysis found a significant difference between control and experimental groups. This effect showed that the students in the experimental group increased their performance by using VCRS. Moreover, there was a main effect in the scores of each week. However, there was not an interaction between the two factors. Follow up Post Hoc tests were conducted to evaluate the pair-wise differences among the means of the test week factors using a Tukey HSD test. These Post Hoc comparisons indicated that the mean score for the third week's test scores were significantly better than the first week's test score in the experimental group. It was concluded that the VCRS facilitated learning for the experimental group and that learning also occurred for both groups as a result of repeated testing.

A Comparative study of YOLO and Haar Cascade algorithm for helmet and license plate detection of motorcycles

Background: Every country has seen an increase in motorcycle accidents over the years due to social and economic differences as well as regional variations in transportation circumstances. One common mode of transportation for those in the middle class is a motorbike.  Every motorbike rider is legally required to wear a helmet when driving a bike. However, some people on bikes used to ignore their safety, which resulted in them violating traffic rules by driving the bike without a helmet. The policeman tried to address this issue manually, but it was ineffective and proved to be quite challenging in practical circumstances. Therefore, automating this procedure is essential if we are to effectively enforce road safety. As a result, an automated system was created employing a variety of techniques, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), the Haar Cascade Classifier, the You Only Look Once (YOLO), the Single Shot multi-box Detector (SSD), etc. In this study, YOLOv3 and Haar Cascade Classifier are used to compare motorcycle helmet and license plate detection.  Objectives: This thesis aims to compare the machine learning algorithms that detect motorcycles’ license plates and helmets. Here, the Haar Cascade Classifier and YOLO algorithms are used on the US License Plates and Helmet Detection datasets to train the models. The accuracy is obtained in detecting the helmets and license plates of the motorcycles and analyzed.  Methods: The experiment method is chosen to answer the research question. An experiment is performed to find the accuracy of the models in detecting the helmets and license plates of motorcycles. The datasets utilized for this are from Kaggle, which included 764 pictures of two distinct classes, i.e., with and without a helmet, along with 447 unique license plate images. Before training the model, preprocessing techniques are performed on US License Plates and Helmet Detection datasets. Now the datasets are divided into test and train datasets where the test data set size is considered to be 20% and the train data set size is 80%. The models are trained using 80% pre-processed training datasets and using the Haar Cascade Classifier and YOLOv3 algorithms. An observation is made by giving the 20% test data to the trained models. Finally, the prediction results of these two models are recorded and the accuracy is measured by generating a confusion matrix.   Results: The efficient and best algorithm for detecting the helmets and license plates of motorcycles is identified from the experiment method. The YOLOv3 algorithm is considered more accurate in detecting motorcycles' helmets and license plates based on the results.  Conclusions: Models are trained using Haar Cascade and YOLOv3 algorithms on US License Plates and Helmet Detection training datasets. The accuracy of the models in detecting the helmets and license plates of motorcycles is checked by using the testing datasets. The model trained using the YOLOv3 algorithm has high accuracy; hence, the Neural network-based YOLOv3 technique is thought to be the best and most efficient.

The purpose of writing a master's thesis is to analyze the state of the banking sector from the perspective of reducing the number of valid licenses, suggest possible approaches to determining whether there is evidence of a possible revocation of a license from a credit institution and provide a forward-looking estimate of the further development of the banking sector. During the work, an analysis was made of the state of the banking sector of the country when revoking the license; identified and identified signs that can warn banks from the ban on the conduct of banking operations on the basis of the seven banks in the country, which allowed to assess the impact of revocation of a license for the development of the banking system of the Russian Federation. / Магистерская диссертация посвящена вопросам анализа отзыва лицензий у коммерческих банков. An Analysis of Differences in the Professional Characteristics of Prekindergarten Disabilities Teachers in Florida School Districts

This research study addressed a gap in the literature about the professional characteristics, including license, degree earned, years of experience, and professional development hours, of teachers of prekindergarten students with disabilities (SWDs) in Florida. Using archival data gathered from the Florida Department of Education, this study examined whether statistically significant differences existed in the professional characteristics of prekindergarten (PK) disabilities teachers among school districts implementing prekindergarten inclusion, the education of prekindergarten SWDs in regular early childhood classrooms with their nondisabled peers, which improves the social, language, and cognitive skills of prekindergarten SWDs. In addition, this study analyzed whether there were statistically significant differences in the professional characteristics of PK disabilities teachers among different-sized school districts, as determined by student population, a metric associated with access to qualified teachers. Quantitative methods were used to analyze the variables. Statistically significant differences were found among the prekindergarten inclusion rate groups in the years of experience and professional development hours of PK disabilities teachers but not in the degree earned or license. In addition, statistically significant differences were found among the school district size groups in the years of experience, professional development hours, degree earned, and license of PK disabilities teachers. Information gathered and analyzed in this study may assist state-level administrators, institutes of higher education, and school districts to better understand the levels of education, training, and expertise of the current workforce of prekindergarten disabilities teachers and to tailor training and professional development to the individual needs of PK disabilities teachers in Florida.

Simulation For Commercial Driver License Third Party Tester Testing

The advance of technology is thought to help ease the myriad tasks that are usually involved in operating equipment. Training and testing in modern times have been replacing with simulation technologies that mimic the actual live operations and testing. Many successful stories of flight simulation come from military fighter aircraft and commercial pilot programs. The possibilities of safety in saving lives, economic incentive in reducing the operational cost and reducing the carbon footprint via simulation makes simulation worth looking into. These considerations quickly boosted the transfer from live training operations to virtual and simulation, as were easily adopted in the history of flight training and testing. Although, there has been a lack of application, the benefits of the computer based simulation as a modeling and simulation (M&S) tool can be applied to the commercial driver license (CDL) for the trucking industry. Nevertheless, this is an uphill battle to convince CDL administrators to integrate modern technology into the CDL program instead of using the traditional daily business of manual testing. This is because the cost of trucking industry live operations is still relatively affordable; individuals and companies are reluctant to adopt the use of the modeling and simulation driving or testing system. Fortunately, cost is not the only variable to consider for the training and testing administrators and their management. There is a need to expand the use of technology to support live operations. The safety of the student, trainer, and tester should be taken into account. The availability of training or testing scenarios is also an influencing factor. Ultimately, the most important factor is driving safety on the American road. The relationship of accidents with driver license fraud has led the Federal Department of Transportation to want to reduce fraud in third-party Commercial Driver License (CDL) administration. Although it is not a perfect solution that can fix all, the utilization of simulation technologies for driving assessment could be a solution to help reduce fraud if it is applied correctly. The Department of Transportation (DOT) authorized the states independent authority to administrate the local CDL including the use of the Third-Party Tester (TPT). As a result, some criminal activities prompted the Federal investigation to recommend changes and to fund the states to take action to stay in compliance with the Federal regulation. This is the opportunity for the state CDL administrator to explore the use of M&S to support its mission. Recall, those arguments for the use of the M&S is the thought of safety in saving lives, economic incentive in reducing the operational cost, and reducing the carbon footprint via using simulation. This makes simulation a viable resource. This paper will report the research study of using the computer based testing modeling and simulation tools to replace or augment the current state examiner as means of assessing the CDL TPT proficiency in basic backing skills. This pilot study of this system has several aspects to address. The scenarios must be relevant to test the knowledge of the TPT by using closely comparable scenarios to the current manual testing method. The scenario-based simulation should incorporate randomness to provide a greater sense of reality. In addition, the reconfigurable built-in random behavior scenarios provide the administrator greater control of behaviors and allow the administrator to be able to select among the random scenarios. Finally, the paper will present the data sampling from relevant participants of the CDL TPT and methodology applied. The analysis of data presents in this research study will be valuable for the State and Federal CDL administrator to consider the pros and cons of applying or adding a computer based simulation to their current testing methodology.

Foreign Direct Investment and its Spatial Economic Impacts in Canada: Some Further Evidence

(chronological from 1-126) / The purpose of this thesis is to examine foreign firms' spatial economic impacts on Canada with particular emphasis on the industrial linkage and spatial employment effects. The thesis focuses on the recent characteristics and strategies of foreign firms, which include rationalization and restructuring, in Canada. FDI in Canada is decreasing in a relative sense, while the share of foreign control and ownership in Canadian industry have remained almost constant for last twenty years: about sixty per cent and fifty per cent in the manufacturing sector, respectively. Furthermore, foreign firms recently increases acquisitions of Canadian firms, disinvestment from Canada, and remittance to the home countries in the form of royalties and license fees. Foreign firms seem to have contributed to the deficit of international balance of payments in Canada. Also foreign control over the Canadian economy is increasing without a corresponding increase in new capacity, income and employment. The linkage analysis and Spearman's rank correlation analysis reveal that foreign investments in Canada prefer to concentrate in industries with lower backward linkages and higher forward linkages. Foreign firms in Canada heavily depend upon foreign sources of material inputs and are directed to Canadian market for their outputs. This indicates that foreign firms' role in Canadian international balance could be negative. Along with decreasing rate of growth of FDI in Canada the employment of foreign firms has decreased rapidly, while their spatial concentration has increased. In addition, the rapid decrease in foreign employment in Canada's lagging regions since 1970 also contributed to regional disparity. For the locational change over the last two decades, domestic firms have been more dispersed out of Ontario and Quebec than foreign firms. Foreign firms were more stable then domestic firms implying that they specialized themselves in the plant level to cope with the changes in economic climates while domestic firms might have adjusted themselves possibly by relocation and plant closures and new set ups. Foreign firms have positively influenced some parts of Canada's competitiveness through rapid specialization and productivity growth and have negatively influenced some parts of Canada's competitiveness, including the tendency toward importing, weak development in high-technology industries, less R & D activity and employment. The rapid specialization and productivity growth of foreign firms can contribute to enhance Canada's competitiveness at the expense of employment loss and regional disparity. In addition, considering Canada's poor performance in high-technologysectors and R&D activity in spite of the fact that foreign firms show rapid specialization, productivity growth, and growth in high-technology sectors, the spillover effects of foreign firms are not so satisfactory as expected in Canada. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)
