Modélisation et validation expérimentale de concept de Détection Vidéo Coopérative destiné à un système stéréo anticollision inter-véhicule / Modeling and experimental validation of the concept of Cooperative Video Detection for a stereo inter-vehicle collision systemLu, Shuxian 03 July 2015 (has links)
This thesis was devoted to the development of a new detection method for vehicular collision avoidance system based on trajectory measurement, which could contribute to driver assistance systems. In order to obtain high detection probability, we have chosen the cooperative stereoscopic video solution: the cooperation between vehicles makes it easier and more reliable when they aim to detect each other. There are two participants in the system: the “system carriers" vehicles, or the " followers" are equipped with stereoscopic cameras (two image sensors), who belong to high speed technology families; the "targets" vehicles are equipped with modulated LED lights, with the modulation frequency being already known by the "followers". After space-time filtering, the system detects the signals emitted bymodulated lights sources, which greatly reduces the amount of information to be processed comparing to traditional trajectory calculations methods. The detection of modulated light is achieved by filtering based on digital image processing, which is adapted to the desired modulation frequency. We have proposed three types of filters suitable for detecting the modulation at this frequency and at the same time for rejecting the background as well as possible. In order to be able to evaluate the performances of both detecting signals and rejecting false alarms, we first performed numerical simulations based on the model signals, then calculations on real signals acquired in static and driving experiments. The tested speeds were from 30km/h up to 100km/h, which allowed us to analyze the signals emitted from vehicle lights as well as the behavior of our filters under different angular velocities of the lights (zero, low and high). The result of these experiments showed that our method of filtering could detect LED-type DRL lights up to 140m without any false alarm. This is essential to define more precisely the values of thresholds of such systems. We have also evaluated technologies that are possible to improve system performance in the future, which are not yet ready to be used in industry productions. For example, artificial "retinas" could allow us to integrate analog filters in the chips, and thus to reduce bandwidth of the filters.

Minska ångest i väntrumsmiljöer med belysning : Effekten av ljusnivå, ljusupplevelse och fönster ur ett patientperspektiv / Decrease anxiety in waiting room enviroments with lighting : The effect of light level, light experience and windows from a patient perspectiveRunslätt, Emilia, Sundqvist, Lovisa January 2019 (has links)
Waiting rooms and anxiety have a strong connection with each other. Most of the Sweden's population visit a waiting room as patient at least once a year. At present, the lighting is primarily planned for the health professionals´ needs and conditions. Because of this, the lighting environment and the waiting room experience for patients suffers. To be able to create satisfying waiting room environments, this study wants to examine whether there is a connection between anxiety and light level. Also, it studies how the light will be experienced and if windows with views affects patient’s anxiety. The study examined the influence of low and high illuminance and the influence of windows on anxiety. In addition, it was investigated how different room shapes and lighting solution affect the experience of the light environment and the environmental impact on the mood. With the help of a prestudy, an experiment could be designed where four different light scenes were tested. To investigate whether windows and views have an impact, two types of test rooms have been created: one with windows and one without windows. The participants in the study consisted of 16 women and 8 men with a mixture of students and professionals who had to answer 5 questionnaires. The questionnaires were developed from well-validated methods to get answers from the participants regarding how they have felt the last two weeks. Also, how the participants felt and experienced the light scenes during the experiment, in order to be able to answer the questions of the study. The result showed no significant differences regarding the effect of illuminance or window on anxiety. The result showed however that there were significant differences in the light experience when it comes to brightness, safety, colour of the light and glare. The conclusion of the study is that the lighting can affect the light experience and the mood. But more research is needed when it comes to illuminance and windows and views impact on anxiety.

Effekten av färgskiftande vertikalljus i en arbetsmiljö / The effect of color-changing vertical light in a work environmentBertilsson, Richard, Bäck, Tobias January 2019 (has links)
The human being has developed during the daylight's dynamic variation of color temperature, direction and intensity. The variation positively affects our emotions and performance. The problem today is that we stay about 90% of the day indoors and the indoor lighting often lacks variation. With dynamic colored light, a changeable and stimulating environment can be created to improve future lighting environments. This study has examined how the user's motivation, well-being and concentration are affected by dynamic colored vertical lighting. An environment that quickly would become dull and understimulating, can instead get an interesting variation that makes it usable for a longer time with this lighting solution, without the motivation or well-being decreasing. The lighting solution is intended to be used during time periods as a boost. The experiment was divided into two treatments, one with static office lighting designed according to Swedish lighting standard and one where the dynamic colored vertical lighting was added to the regular office lighting. The treatments were performed in a simulated office environment at Jönköpings Tekniska Högskola. The treatment with dynamic colored vertical lighting slowly shifted in light colors through out the whole visible color spectrum on the room's vertical surfaces, to create a variation in the room. During the experiment, the subjects were required to answer questionnaires and performance tests to measure the influence of the dynamic colored light on the subjects well-being and cognitive performance. The results showed that the dynamic colored vertical light had a positive effect on motivation and well-being, but did not affect the concentration of the subjects. The positive effect that occurred was when the order of the treatments started with the dynamic colored vertical light and then ended with the regular working light. The conclusion is that dynamic colored vertical lighting can increase the motivation and well-being if it is applied correctly, without adversely affecting the concentration. The simulated office environment lacked windows, when scaling up any further research, a real office environment with windows would be preferable. Investigating further whether it is the actual variation of the colored light or the individual colors of the light that creates the effect on the users is also relevant, as this study did not specifically process that.

In recent years, biometrics have received substantial attention due to the evergrowing need for automatic individual authentication. Among various physiological biometric traits, face offers unmatched advantages over the others, such as fingerprints and iris, because it is natural, non-intrusive and easily understandable by humans. Nowadays conventional face recognition techniques have attained quasi-perfect performance in a highly constrained environment wherein poses, illuminations, expressions and other sources of variations are strictly controlled. However these approaches are always confined to restricted application fields because non-ideal imaging environments are frequently encountered in practical cases. To adaptively address these challenges, this dissertation focuses on this unconstrained face recognition problem, where face images exhibit more variability in illumination. Moreover, another major question is how to leverage limited 3D shape information to jointly work with 2D based techniques in a heterogeneous face recognition system. To deal with the problem of varying illuminations, we explicitly build the underlying reflectance model which characterizes interactions between skin surface, lighting source and camera sensor, and elaborate the formation of face color. With this physics-based image formation model involved, an illumination-robust representation, namely Chromaticity Invariant Image (CII), is proposed which can subsequently help reconstruct shadow-free and photo-realistic color face images. Due to the fact that this shadow removal process is achieved in color space, this approach could thus be combined with existing gray-scale level lighting normalization techniques to further improve face recognition performance. The experimental results on two benchmark databases, CMU-PIE and FRGC Ver2.0, demonstrate the generalization ability and robustness of our approach to lighting variations. We further explore the effective and creative use of 3D data in heterogeneous face recognition. In such a scenario, 3D face is merely available in the gallery set and not in the probe set, which one would encounter in real-world applications. Two Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are constructed for this purpose. The first CNN is trained to extract discriminative features of 2D/3D face images for direct heterogeneous comparison, while the second CNN combines an encoder-decoder structure, namely U-Net, and Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (CGAN) to reconstruct depth face image from its counterpart in 2D. Specifically, the recovered depth face images can be fed to the first CNN as well for 3D face recognition, leading to a fusion scheme which achieves gains in recognition performance. We have evaluated our approach extensively on the challenging FRGC 2D/3D benchmark database. The proposed method compares favorably to the state-of-the-art and show significant improvement with the fusion scheme.

Impact of lighting conditions on the developmental physiology of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)Clokie, Benjamin Gregory James January 2017 (has links)
The Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) lifecycle is punctuated by distinct ontogenic stages which are routinely manipulated commercially by photoperiod regimes to enable year-round production. As such, light plays a critical role throughout the production cycle, however, it remains poorly characterised and light spectrum and intensity have not been defined optimally yet. This thesis was therefore set out to test the effects of narrow bandwidth light (Blue-λ(max) 444 nm, Green-λ(max) 523 nm, Red-λ(max) 632 nm and White) and intensity in freshwater (FW). Fry-parr development, out-of-season smoltification and ocular and vertebral health were examined as was the long-term effects of FW light regimes on seawater (SW) growth and muscle structure. In addition, the impact of photoperiod regimes on out-of-season smolts following transfer to SW was investigated.
Major findings from the trials conducted show that light spectrum and intensity influence parr development with lower intensities performing better than higher intensities. Both the initiation and duration of smoltification was impacted by spectrum. Importantly, this doctoral work showed that daily changes in light intensity, from low during the scotophase to high during the photophase applied for the duration of a standard out-of-season smoltification regime was capable of providing a sufficient cue for the induction of smoltification. Historic FW light exposure impacted SW performance and post-transfer SW photoperiod had significant impact upon growth and maturation development. Results based on changes to the gonadosomatic index provide important guidance for suitable post-transfer photoperiods for smolt transferred to SW around the winter solstice. Importantly, from the parameters tested, exposure to different spectrum or light intensities did not adversely affect vertebral or ocular health.
This thesis did not only focus on the physiological effects of light but also aimed to characterise better the pathways involved in light perception and integration. To do so, the neural response to both broad spectrum white light, darkness and Red and Blue light was investigated through deep brain insitu-hybridisation and high throughput sequencing (NGS) of the pituitary gland. Results showed substantial spectral and light/dark changes in the both the deep brain and pituitary transcriptome. Overall, this research provides both scientifically interesting and commercially relevant guidance for the optimisation of lighting systems for use in captive salmon aquaculture.
