Active Vibration Control of Multibody Systems : Application to Automotive DesignOlsson, Claes January 2005 (has links)
Active vibration control to reduce vibrations and structure borne noise is considered using a powerful multi-disciplinary virtual design environment which enables control system design to be considered as an integral part of the overall vehicle design. The main application studied is active automotive engine vibration isolation where, first, the potential of large frequency band multi-input multi-output H2 feedback control is considered. Facilitated by the virtual environment, it is found necessary to take non-linear characteristics into account to achieve closed-loop stability. A physical explanation to why receiver structure flexibility insignificantly affect the open and closed-loop characteristics in case of total force feedback in contrast to acceleration feedback is then given. In this context, the inherent differences between model order reduction by modal and by balanced truncation are being stressed. Next, applying state-of-the-art algorithms for recursive parameter estimation, time-domain adaptive filtering is shown to lack sufficient tracking performance to deal with multiple spectral components of transient engine excitations corresponding to rapid car accelerations. Finally, plant non-linearity as well as transient excitation are successfully handled using narrow band control based on feedback of disturbance states estimates. To deal with the non-linear characteristics, an approach to generate linear parameter varying descriptions of non-linear systems is proposed. Parameter dependent quadratic stability is assessed using a derived affine closed-loop system representation. This thesis also considers actuator saturation induced limit cycles for observer-based state feedback control systems encountered when dealing with the active isolation application. It is stressed that the fundamental observer-based anti-windup technique could imply severely deteriorated closed-loop characteristics and even sustained oscillations. That is in the case when the observer is fed by the saturated control signal in contrast to the computed one. Based on piecewise affine system descriptions, analytical tools to conclude about limit cycles and exponential closed-loop stability are provided for the two observer implementations.

Two statistical problems related to credit scoring / Tanja de la Rey.De la Rey, Tanja January 2007 (has links)
This thesis focuses on two statistical problems related to credit scoring. In credit scoring of individuals, two classes are distinguished, namely low and high risk individuals (the so-called "good" and "bad" risk classes). Firstly, we suggest a measure which may be used to study the nature of a classifier for distinguishing between the two risk classes. Secondly, we derive a new method DOUW (detecting outliers using weights) which may be used to fit logistic regression models robustly and for the detection of outliers.
In the first problem, the focus is on a measure which may be used to study the nature of a classifier. This measure transforms a random variable so that it has the same distribution as another random variable. Assuming a linear form of this measure, three methods for estimating the parameters (slope and intercept) and for constructing confidence bands are developed and compared by means of a Monte Carlo study. The application of these estimators is illustrated on a number of datasets. We also construct statistical hypothesis to test this linearity assumption. In the second problem, the focus is on providing a robust logistic regression fit and
the identification of outliers. It is well-known that maximum likelihood estimators of
logistic regression parameters are adversely affected by outliers. We propose a robust approach that also serves as an outlier detection procedure and is called DOUW. The approach is based on associating high and low weights with the observations as a result of the likelihood maximization. It turns out that the outliers are those observations to which low weights are assigned. This procedure depends on two tuning constants. A simulation study is presented to show the effects of these constants on the performance of the proposed methodology. The results are presented in terms of four benchmark datasets as well as a large new dataset from the application area of retail marketing campaign analysis.
In the last chapter we apply the techniques developed in this thesis on a practical credit scoring dataset. We show that the DOUW method improves the classifier performance and that the measure developed to study the nature of a classifier is useful in a credit scoring context and may be used for assessing whether the distribution of the good and the bad risk individuals is from the same translation-scale family. / Thesis (Ph.D. (Risk Analysis))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2008.

Exchange rate pass-through into import prices and monetary policy : application for the Euro areaRazafindrabe, Tovonony 28 February 2013 (has links)
The thesis explores the transmission of exchange rate movements into import prices, the phenomenon known as “exchange rate pass-through”. This phenomenon is at the heart of open macroeconomics. For policy makers, it is an important issue when making appropriate decisions in terms of economic policy (in particular monetary policy and exchange rate regime). Analysis of the exchange rate pass-through is conducted using unpublished micro-data of import prices made available to us by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic studies (INSEE) and new database of actual import price data, and not unit value indices, for several Euro-area countries. Using different both empirical and theoretical approaches, we provide some new stylized facts on import prices and show evidence in favor of incomplete pass-through in the short run but complete at the long run. Mainly, we argue that incomplete pass-through is the result of nominal import price rigidity. Moreover, we show the important role of the currency invoicing strategy of firms in determining the extent of exchange rate pass-through. In terms of monetary policy, we argue using a multi-country DSGE model, that nominal rigidity induces a persistent but lower impact of the exchange rate changes on import price inflation, which combined with the home consumption bias imply that the monetary authority could pursue a stable inflation target with less action. This is reinforced by the trade-off between output and law of one price gap stabilization generated by the new independent channel of monetary policy arising from incomplete ERPT assumption.

estão em crescente
demanda.
polarizada. A caracterização
perfil e magnitude do
processo. Para investigar a potencialidade do
desenvolvimento de um Atenuador

estudo de polarização eletrotérmica em fibras ópticas.

for optical
components for telecommunication systems. In order to
increase the efficiency of
these components, reduce costs and allow integration to
current systems, efforts
have been made in researching new materials, for example,
silica. Due to its
isotropic nature, silica, ordinarily, does not present
second order effects, for
example, the electro-optic effect, which can be used for
optical switching and
modulation. However, eletrothermal poling can be used to
induce in silica a
second order nonlinearity (c(2)) of the order of 1 pm/V.
It can be observed that
poled silica has an ion-depleted layer and a permanently
recorded electric field.
The experimental characterization of this depletion layer,
i.e. width, profile and
magnitude of the induced c(2), is important for the
comprehension of the physical
process occurring during polarization. Different results
obtained with different
characterization techniques can be found in literature. It
is not known whether
diverging results in literature are due to different
methods of examination or due
to different poling conditions and sample type. This
thesis compares the findings
of four experimental techniques used to monitor the width
of the depletion region
in fused silica samples poled under similar conditions -
hydrofluoric acid (HF)
etching, Maker Fringe, optical and atomic force
microscope, and hydrofluoric acid
(HF) etching with real time monitoring of the SH signal.
The stability of the
induced nonlinearity is important to guarantee the
stability of optical switches and
modulators built with poled silica; therefore, thermal
annealing of the induced
nonlinearity in poled silica is also investigated in this
thesis. The influence of the
sample surface before poling, an important factor in
reproducibility, is also
investigated in this thesis. In order to investigate the
possibility of developing an

Propriedade de transporte de cargas e magnons em sistemas com desordem, interação elétron-fônon e não-linearidade / Cargo transport and property magnons in systems with electron-Phonon interaction, disorder and non-linearitySales, Messias de Oliveira 18 July 2016 (has links)
In this work we study PhD in general transport properties of and quasi particles-energy particles in one-dimensional systems. We study various models and, through different techniques, we obtained a long spectrum of new results. We did a quick study in a ternary d-1 with electronic distribution site built from a stochastic process known by Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (or). Through exact diagonalizacão we calculate the optical absorption spectrum and distribution of spacing between n ´ levels for this ternary model. Overall, we demonstrated that ´ and can control the position of the absorption peaks by regulating the ternary distribution. In a second moment, we present the results obtained for systems with electronic Dynamics coupled to's vibrations. In this sense, we conducted three separate works: at first, we study the dynamics of an electron in a anarmônica in the presence of electron-interaction network. This anarmônica network was built using the formalism of Fermi-Pasta-Ulam with cubic potential. We made also use of the tight-binding approach to treat the electronic transport, and a classical formalism to describe the longitudinal vibrations. In our studies, electron-interaction network was considered such that the integral of transfer between the neighboring atoms ´ is dependent on the effective distance between neighboring atoms ´ (SuSchrieffer-approach model J. Heeger SSH). Our results suggest a kind of solitônico mode control on electronic Dynamics along the nonlinear network adopted. And, therefore, a kind of State electron moving soliton along the chain. This apparent mobility of electron pair-soliton shown with seemingly constant speed and can be a crucial ingredient in the transport of loads in non-linear chains. In our second approach we investigate the dynamics of electronic State moving in a DNA chain containing N bases, in what we consider beyond the DNA intrinsic disorder distribution, the effect of the vibrations of the DNA. Again, the term electron network was considered such that the electronic hopping energy could depend on the effective distance between the nearest DNA bases. The main results obtained show that the electron-Phonon coupling can transpose the location of Anderson, promoting the emergence of a dynamic sub-difusiva to long. In our work, verificamos also played the role of Atomic coupling type (for 1st gear one cas ˆ nicas, cu ´ Bamford or interac ¸ ' Morse type) within the context of electronic transport in the presence of electron-Phonon coupling. Another point which we investigated was the interaction with acoustic waves pumped throughout the network (an simplificada way to consider acu waves ´ sticas ´ also surface in calls from SAW or Surface Acoustic Waves). In a context we conducted a research on the magnetic dynamics of a magnon in Heisenberg ferromagnetic systems in presence of interactions magnon-fo non ˆ. Our results show that the propagation of spin wave follows a super-difusivo scheme for all values of intensity of magnon-coupling network considered.

Estudo de transporte não recíproco e funções lógicas em cadeias discretas acopladas não linearmente / Study of non-reciprocal transport and logical functions in discrete coupled chains not linearlyAssunção, Thaila Figueiredo 07 December 2015 (has links)
Systems which exhibit nonreciprocal transmission or that can be used as logic functions are of great interest for the development of essential devices to nanotechnology. In this work, we investigate the transmission properties for two kinds of coupled discrete nonlinear chains configurations. In the first structure, it was explored the diode-like behavior, while in the other, it was showed the performance of different logic gates. The two systems were described by a set of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations within a tight-binding approach. We determine their respective transmission spectrum. The first system is a nonlinear dimer coupled to linear side chains. We investigate the influence of the saturation of the nonlinear response on the nonreciprocal transmission, which had not been well studied in the previous literature. Through the analysis of the transmission spectrum, we unveil that, in regions of bistable behavior (windows), the difference between transport from right to left and transport from left to right is greater. Moreover these windows widen and displace to regions where the incident amplitude is larger as saturation is considered. The calculation of rectifying factor showed that, in the second bistability window, the influence of the saturation parameter has distinct actions
over short- and long-wavelength. In the first window, the rectifying action is not compromised by the saturation. So weak saturation can improve the efficiency of the nonreciprocal transmission. The second system is a Y-shaped structure, on which three linear chains are joined by a nonlinear site. This kind of structure has been studied in the context of DNA-based devices. We investigated the capability of our model system to perform logic gate operations based on the transmission of phase-shifted incoming waves. Using a digitalization scheme of the output signal based on amplitude modulation, we show that AND, OR and XOR logic gate can be achieved. The phase-shifting between the incoming waves is required for the OR logic gate to be realizable and strong nonlinearity favors the existence of logic gates in the regime of short wavevectors. The analysis of the contrast ratio shows that optimal operation of the AND and OR logic gates takes place when the nonlinear response is the predominant physical property distinguishing the coupling and regular sites. We concluded that Y-shaped structures can potentially perform distinct logic functions.

Etude et réalisation de réseaux d'adaptation d'impédances accordables linéaires et non linéaires, sur PCB et silicium CMOS, pour des applications en radiofréquences / Design, realization of lineaire and non lineaire matching networks in PCB and CMOS technology, for mobile phone applications.Freitas, Vitor 22 November 2012 (has links)
The aim of this research was the design of tunable matching networks, in two different contexts: the TMN at low and high signals.Performance criteria of TMN were studied. A general expression has been developed that estimates the TMN efficiency in function of the quality factor of the components used. The impedance coverage of different RAA topologies was plotted in function of the insertion losses. For the small signal, we designed a prototype in PCB, composed by two TMN, which ensure the simultaneous matching of a power amplifier in a wide range of impedances, included in a circle of the Smith chart VSWR < 5: 1. The coverage area was measured and presented in function of the insertion losses, emphasizing the areas where the TMN contribute to improve the amplifier performance and those where insertion losses of the TMN are not able to compensate gain with the reduction of the reflection coefficients.Subsequently, we discussed the design of TMN for the large signal. The objective is to present at the output of a power amplifier, the impedances that optimize efficiency for each power of operation. A 130 nm SOI prototype was designed and simulated, consisting of a power amplifier for WCDMA standard, 900 MHz, and a MN tunable by MOS varactors able to produce the optimal impedances corresponding to an output power between 20 and 30 dBm. The results showed the benefit provided by inserting a tunable MN compared to a fixed one.

Avaliação do desempenho na pré e pós desmama para uma população bovina multirracial Aberdeen Angus x Nelore utilizando diferentes modelos genéticos / Pre and post weaning performance evaluation for a multibreed Aberdeen Angus x Nellore population using different genetic modelsLopes, Jader Silva 20 February 2009 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic effects that affect the pre and post weaning performances of animals, products from Aberdeen Angus (A) and Nellore (N) breeds crosses. In Article 1, there were used the weaning weights (PD) to test five genetic models (M).
The M1, complete, containing the fix breed genetic effects direct additive (AD) and maternal (AM), the heterozygote effects direct (HD) and maternal (HM), the epystatic effects direct (HD) and maternal (HM) and joint additive effects direct (ACD) and maternal (ACM); M2, was equal
to M1, excluding ACD and ACM effects; M3, was equal to M1, excluding ED and EM effects; M4, was equal M1, excluding ED, EM, ACD and ACM effects, and M5, was equal M1, excluding HD, HM, ED, EM, ACD and ACM effects. The models were submitted to three different analysis methods: Least Square Means method (MQM), Ridge Regression Method (RC) and Restricted Maximum Likelihood Method (REML). The different tests used to check the methodologies efficiency and to compare the models allowed to conclude, for this population, that: the dominant additive models usually used for genetic evaluations, do not give a good description of the pre weaning variations, being necessary to add the heterozygote and epystatic effects; the joint
additive effects do not improve substantially the adjustment of the analysis model and the heterozygote effects were efficient to represent a quadratic breed additive effect, beyond of to insert a bias related to the joint additive effects co linearity. In Article 2, there were used the weight at yearling (PS) to test five genetic models as previously described, only excluding the
maternal effects. The models were submitted to three different analysis methods: MQM, RC and REML. The RC method estimate coefficients with magnitude and sign with biological explanations. The estimative obtained were different from one to the other model, indicating the
importance of to choose the adequate model to perform one analysis. It is necessary to decide based on a previous knowledge of the studied phenomenon, it biological interpretation, and the relationship between the independent variables. It was important to include the effects caused by heterozygosis and epystasis in the model besides the additive effect. The mathematic notation
nowadays used for the joint additive effects, and tested in this study, were not able to explain the between breed complementarily, as was expected, because of the multi co linearity between the effects studied.

In this work aspects of the properties of the concrete, steel and the interaction between them, with particular interest in the deterioration of the bond that occurs in the steel-concrete interface that are necessary to the numerical analysis of reinforced concrete structures are studied. The main aim of this research is the development of a numerical model to simulate the reinforced concrete beams behavior, considering the nonlinear material and the effects of the slip between the reinforcement steel and the concrete. With the Finite Element Method and increment-iterative techniques, the behavior of the materials could be easily represented in the computational numerical model proposed, allowing the use of curves based on the stages of relationship between the local bond stress and the relative slip of the bar. The critical analysis have been done comparing the numerical model developed in this work with other numerical models and with experimental works, showing excellent results and very good efficiency of the present proposal / Doutorado / Estruturas / Doutor em Engenharia Civil
