Pour une étude traductologique du plurilinguisme littéraire : la traduction française de l'insertion du dialecte dans le récit italien contemporain / Towards a tanslatological study of multilinguism : translating the insertion of dialect within contemporary Italian narrative into French

Courriol, Florence 05 December 2015 (has links)
This PhD thesis examines Italian contemporary literary works (novels and short stories) in which dialect is used as a linguistic variety in combination with the national Italian idiom. The analysis is conducted through the works of four Italian writers, in which multilingualism is particularly significant: Andrea Camilleri, Salvatore Niffoi, Laura Pariani and Andrej Longo. Taking into account the complex linguistic situation of Italy, the thesis focuses on the translation of these works characterized by the co-existence of two different linguistic systems. Through an examination of the colourful mixture of linguistic varieties and the function of dialect in these contemporary texts, the thesis aims to make a contribution to the field of Translation Studies and of History of modern and contemporary Italian Literature (examining in particular linguistic and stylistic aspects). It begs the question of the reproducibility of the linguistic mosaic created by these Italian authors in their French translations. Translation of dialect and linguistic varieties, intended as a non-standard language usage in contemporary Italian literature, represents a challenge for countries (in this case France) in which diglossia has disappeared. However, the author argues that the use of certain regional French dialects enables to recreate the defamiliarization effect of the original Italian texts.

Teoretické aspekty variantnosti slovní zásoby v americké španělštině Diachronie a synchronie / Theoretical aspects of vocabulary variability in American Spanish. Diachrony and synchrony

Mištinová, Anna January 2012 (has links)
Theoretical aspects of vocabulary variability in American Spanish Diachrony and synchrony Anna Mištinová Abstract As a multinational and multicultural language, the Spanish language offers, despite its unity, a large number of differences on all linguistic planes. This dissertation's subject consists of an examination of fundamental theoretical questions concerning the variation of American Spanish's vocabulary on a diachronous and synchronous level. A diatopic approach in particular is employed with a focus on geographic-linguistic aspects. Based on theories of variation and other general theoretical aspects, an analysis is conducted on the differences and divergences of the lexicon in Hispano-American variations, on the main sources and causes of changes in comparison with European Spanish, on the origin and nature of the language in the early phases of the New World's conquering and the innovative influence of autochthonous substrates and adstrates. Linguistic contacts made in both the past and present occupy a significant place in this examination, and an emphasis is placed on the Spanish - indigenous languages - English triangle. Another area of focus consists of loanwords in Hispanic America, the process of their adaptation and assimilation. Also among the wide range of theoretical questions that this...

Spanish lo que pasa es que and its variants in Getxo and Barcelona

Paasch-Kaiser, Christine, Sinner, Carsten 25 June 2024 (has links)
The Spanish construction lo que pasa es que ‘what happens is that’, ‘the thing is’ is used in a wide variety of contexts and with a range of different meanings. Linguistic research that has been carried out on this relatively common construction often fails to include empirically collected data and, as a result, the diasystematic markers thereof have only been described to a very limited extent. The main focus of this article is to investigate the use of the construction lo que pasa es que and its phonetically reduced forms lo que pasa que and lo que in two Spanishlanguage oral speech corpora collected in Getxo (Basque Country) and Barcelona (Catalonia). These data are used to carry out a quantitative and qualitative study of the presence or absence of this construction in both regions of language contact, something which has yet to be considered or systematically analysed in the relevant research. The study identifies a statistically relevant diatopic markedness of the forms lo que pasa es que, lo que pasa and pasa que while also providing empirical proof for the pragmatic use of these constructions within the varieties investigated. Furthermore, it confirms the use of additional reduced forms of said constructions and describes their development.

Castrillón, Sonia 12 1900 (has links)
Present work outlines –for the first time– the state of the Spanish language spoken by the Colombian community in Montreal with reference to the forms of pronominal and nominal address and verbal politeness. In order to conduct this study, a fieldwork was undertaken through a questionnaire and semi-conducted oral interviews addressed to 30 informants. The analysis of the collected data has allowed us to establish the first research comparing the way Colombian inhabitants and Colombians in Montreal speak and to identify some of the main linguistic changes in this spoken Spanish community. It is mostly in relation to the forms of address and politeness actions that have been affected by the influence of French and English languages. The analysis that has been carried out takes into consideration the linguistic, pragmatic and social factors of the speakers. In this way, the results provide recent insights about the description of the dynamics of the forms of address from speakers of three different representative dialectical zones of Colombia such as the oriental Andean region, occidental Andean region and the Caribbean coastal zone. Together with other previous studies, our work contributes to a better understanding of the linguistic reality of the Spanish language spoken by monolingual, bilingual or trilingual Colombians.

The present study, under the assertions of Historical Linguistics and Variationist Sociolinguistics, verifies the position of clitic pronouns, associated to a single verb or associated to more than one verb, in clauses which are part of journalistic texts produced in São Paulo city and in Rio Claro town, located in the interior of São Paulo State. The period analyzed embraces the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century, particularly, between the years 1880 and 1920. This spatial cut is due to the diverse profile of the locations, what is analyzed to verify probable similarities and particularities of the clitic pronouns uses in those areas. Concerning the time cut, the period has had little investigation from the linguistic point of view, but it is relevant by the historical facts which distinguish it – in the national and international sceneries and even in São Paulo city and State – and also by the transformations observed in the societies, with consequences also present in the use of the language by their members. The materials used as data extraction source, the newspapers, were chosen because of their diverse nature of texts, just as other means of the journalistic discourse domain. This choice enables the presence of standard and non-standard variations and the identification of the roles of the interlocutors and the situational context in which they are produced (with higher or lower monitoring), according to formal and functional aspects. In this case, the use of conservative and innovator forms related to the present standard, while placing the clitic pronouns, are observed. Based on the theoretical and methodological purposes from the Theory of Linguistic Change and Variation, therefore, there is an investigation of which independent linguistic and non-linguistic variables motivate, inside the sentence, a certain position of the clitic pronouns...
