Mauricio Redolés : el estilo de sus matemáticas

Yuivar C., Ana María January 2008 (has links)

Le Québec en autoreprésentation : le passage d’une dramaturgie de l’identitaire à celle de l’individu / Quebec Self-Represented on Stage : From Identity-Driven Drama to the Playwright as Individual

Leroux, Patrick 12 March 2009 (has links)
This thesis traces and investigates the transition in Quebec drama over the last forty years from writing driven by collective identity to writing driven by the individual. The reading of the dramatic texts draws on a socio-critical approach, identifying discursive strategies and the poetics of self-representation in a theatrical tradition seen to be borrowing its devices from intimate literature. Consequently, biographically inflected plays and epic plays reinterpreting history are studied alongside the more explicitly autobiographical, autofictional, and self-reflective works that have come to typify recent Quebec theatre production. After having been resolutely political and language-based, Quebec drama—long considered reflective of the national aspirations of a people in a state of ongoing redefinition—is now interested primarily in itself as a literary trope. Theatre practitioners have become preoccupied with the narrowing space they occupy in Quebec society. Has the social process of becoming [“le devenir” in the Deleuzian sense] been replaced by an overwhelming preoccupation with the individual sense of becoming, not as a stated exemplum, but rather as the manifestation of a sense of uniqueness? The thesis examines the emergence of a self-reflective dramaturgy celebrating the autobiographical practices its artists are engaged in. Thus theatrical discourse is again in step with social discourse in Quebec, except that the dramatic mirror is reflecting a society of individuals preoccupied with their own personal sense of accomplishment.

An estimation of Severe Malaria prevalence in Children aged 0-59 months in Uganda : A Secondary Analysis of Uganda’s Malaria Indicator Survey 2019

Ahmed, Abdalla January 2021 (has links)
Background: According to the WHO, in 2019, of the 384,000 deaths due to malaria globally, Uganda has accounted for 5% of total deaths. This study aims to estimate the fraction of severe malaria cases, and socio-demographic characteristics associated with severe malaria among children aged 0–59 months who are positive for malaria in Uganda. Methods: This is a population based cross sectional study conducted among 1627 children aged 0-59 months who were positive for malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test. Data for this analysis was extracted from Uganda Malaria Indicator Survey 2019. Multivariate logistic regression was used to investigate the prevalence of severe malaria and its association with different background characteristics. The study was conducted using SPSS software version 27. Results: The prevalence of severe malaria symptoms was in 11.7% of included children. Multivariate logistic regression revealed significantly increased odds for children aged 12-23 months (aOR: 2.0;95% CI: 1.3 – 3.3) and 24 – 35 (aOR: 1.93;95% CI: 1.2 – 3.1) months, children living in urban settings (aOR: 4.9;95% CI: 2.2 – 10.7) , and children belonging to the middle (aOR: 1.9;95% CI: 1.3 – 2.9) wealth quantile also had significantly higher odds of having one or more symptoms of severe malaria Conclusion: Ages 12–35 months, living in urban areas, and belonging in the middle wealth quantile were significantly associated with increased odds of having one or more symptoms of severe malaria. The results of which suggest a need for malaria intervention policies to address the needs of younger children and urban communities in Uganda.

Abscheidung (CVD) und Charakterisierung W-basierter Diffusionsbarrieren für die Kupfermetallisierung

Ecke, Ramona 11 December 2006 (has links)

MIS’s impact on organizations’effectiveness : A comparative study on two different organizations

Skagne, Felix January 2020 (has links)
Information system’s impact on organization’s effectiveness is a well-researched scientific area and has over the years grown exponentially. Information systems exist in order to intensify the information flow within an organization, at all levels, specifically to allow set of data to reach the designated person, in the right format, and at the right time, generating a positive and beneficial contribution to the organization. This qualitative thesis aims to investigate two different implementations of information systems and its result on the respective organization’s effectiveness. The thesis uses three factors, Time-saving, Workload, and System Reliability, to distinguish users’ perceptions and experience with the system and how they affect the organization’s effectiveness. An interpretative method is used, due to the paradigm’s focus on social constructions and human interpretations to explain reality. In total were seven (7) interviews conducted, three at Organization A, and four at Organization B. The result of the findings shows that the implementation of a new MIS (Management Information System) has a greater impact on an organization’s effectiveness, compared to an older system that gets updated and add-ons. However, when comparing the first versions of the older MIS with the latest, the findings showed a large improvement in all factors as well. Although, the responses highlighted that there are still several problems that need to be fixed in the older MIS in order for it to reach a better level of satisfaction by its users, but also to achieve better effectiveness. Additionally, the result showed that within Organization B, which utilizes the older system, there were external- and internal factors that were not affected by the MIS, that dictated, to an extent, the workload and if time could be spared. The thesis helps researchers and organizations alike to better understand the importance of a well-adapted MIS, in terms of the organization's goals, and the importance of increased recognition from the user organization when a system should be discontinued. Furthermore, this thesis helps us to better understand the result of two of the most common IS implementations. The implementation of information systems is challenging for organizations since most are put into place without a practical- and efficient implementation strategy, focusing on wrong critical factors. By comparing differences between different implementation of management information systems, focusing on how the chosen approach affects the effectiveness in each organization, a better grasp, and understanding of an area that lacks research and attention is highlighted.

A Gcm Comparison of Plio-Pleistocene Interglacial-Glacial Periods in Relation to Lake El’gygytgyn, Ne Arctic Russia

Coletti, Anthony J 01 January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Until now, the lack of time-continuous, terrestrial paleoenvironmental data from the Pleistocene Arctic has made model simulations of past interglacials difficult to assess. Here, we compare climate simulations of four warm interglacials at Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 1 (9ka), 5e (127 ka), 11c (409 ka), and 31 (1072 ka) with new proxy climate data recovered from Lake El’gygytgyn, NE Russia. Climate reconstructions of the Mean Temperature of the Warmest Month (MTWM) indicate conditions 2.1, 0.5 and 3.1 ºC warmer than today during MIS 5e, 11c, and 31 respectively. While the climate model captures much of the observed warming during each interglacial, largely in response to boreal summer orbital forcing, the extraordinary warmth of MIS 11c relative to the other interglacials in the proxy records remain difficult to explain. To deconvolve the contribution of multiple influences on interglacial warming at Lake El’gygytgyn, we isolated the influence of vegetation, sea ice, and circum-Arctic land ice feedbacks on the climate of the Beringian interior. Vegetation-land surface feedback simulations during all four interglacials show expanding boreal forest cover with increasing summer insolation intensity. A deglaciated Greenland is shown to have a minimal effect on Northeast Asian temperature during the warmth of stage 11c and 31 (Melles et al., 2012). A prescribed enhancement of oceanic heat transport into the Arctic ocean has some effect on Beringian climate, suggesting intrahemispheric coupling seen in comparisons between Lake El’gygytgyn and Antarctic sediment records might be related to linkages between Antarctic ice volume and ocean circulation. The exceptional warmth of MIS 11c remains enigmatic however, relative to the modest orbital and greenhouse gas forcing during that interglacial. Large Northern Hemisphere ice sheets during Plio-Pleistocene glaciation causes a substantial decrease in Mean Temperature of the Coldest Month (MTCM) and Mean Annual Precipitation (PANN) causing significant Arctic aridification. Aridification and frigid conditions can be linked to a combination of mechanical forcing from the Laurentide and Fennoscandian ice sheets on mid-tropospheric westerly flow and expanded sea-ice cover causing albedo-enhanced feedback.

Sites of struggle : representations of family in Spanish film (1996-2004)

Rutherford, Jennifer R. January 2010 (has links)
This thesis analyses how ways of thinking about and meanings of family are (re)negotiated and (re)presented in six films that, to varying degrees, are categorised as cine social. The group of films consists of Familia (León de Aranoa, 1996), Solas (Zambrano, 1999), Flores de otro mundo (Bollaín, 1999), Poniente (Gutiérrez, 2002), Te doy mis ojos (Bollaín, 2003) and Cachorro (Albaladejo, 2004). Despite the growing body of critical work on the wide-ranging social themes they deal with, little sustained attention has been given to their representations of family. Scholars tend to mention it only in passing, or refer back to the allegorical/mediating function that family has often played in Spanish cinema. The objective of this thesis is to place the emphasis, as the films do themselves, on the family per se. Insights into family from a range of academic fields including philosophy, sociology, feminist and queer theories and cultural, race and gender studies are combined with close textual readings and a consideration of the modes of representation and address employed in the films to analyse how they function as sites of ideological struggle. The thesis begins by sketching out historically and culturally situated definitions of family and providing an overview of some of its most iconic representations in Spanish cinema. Establishing many of the aspects developed in the main body of the thesis the first chapter concentrates on Familia, which denaturalises the hegemonic family by presenting it as a self-conscious performance. The subsequent four chapters focus on family forms, roles, practices, commitment, power dynamics and domestic space. They explore how the films’ affective and informed modes of address position the spectator in relation to criticisms of the traditional family and evaluations of emerging family ideologies, finally proposing that they could usefully be viewed as a cycle of postmodern family melodramas.

High-Resolution Speleothem-Based Palaeoclimate Records From New Zealand Reveal Robust Teleconnection To North Atlantic During MIS 1-4

Whittaker, Thomas Edward January 2008 (has links)
Growth rates, δ18O and δ13C of five stalagmites from the west coasts of North and South Islands, New Zealand, provide records of millennial-scale climate variability over the last ~75 kyr. Thirty-five uranium-series ages were used to provide the chronology. δ18O of stalagmite calcite was influenced by changes in moisture source region, temperature and both δ18O and δ13C primarily display a negative relationship with rainfall. To assist interpretation of climatic signals δ18O profiles were adjusted for the ice-volume effect. Changes in these proxies reflect changes in the strength of the circumpolar westerly circulation and the frequency of southwesterly flow across New Zealand. MIS 4 was a period of wet and cool climate lasting from 67.7 to 61.3 kyr B.P., expressed in the stalagmites by an interval of strongly negative isotope ratios and increased growth rate. This contrasts with less negative δ18O and δ13C, and slow growth, interpreted as dry and cold climate, during much of MIS 2. This difference between MIS 2 and MIS 4 provides an explanation for why glacial moraines in the Southern Alps of MIS 4 age lie beyond those deposited during the last glacial maximum (MIS 2). Heinrich events, with the exception of H0 (the Younger Dryas), are interpreted from high-resolution South Island stalagmite HW05-3, from Hollywood Cave, West Coast, as times of wetter and cooler climate. Minima in δ18O and δ13C (wet periods) occurred at 67.7-61.0, 56-55, 50.5-47.5, 40-39, 30.5-29, 25.5-24.3 and 16.1-15. kyr B.P. matching Heinrich events H6-H1 (including H5a) respectively. This demonstrates a robust teleconnection between events in the North Atlantic and New Zealand climate. Minima in δ18O also occurred at similar times in less well-dated North Island stalagmite RK05-3 from Ruakuri Cave, Waitomo. Speleothems from low-latitudes have revealed that Heinrich events forced southerly displacement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. This caused steepening of the temperature gradient across mid-southern latitudes, increased westerly circulation and resulted in wet conditions on the west coast of both islands. Immediately following H1 in the HW05-3 stable isotope profiles is another excursion to more negative isotopic values, suggesting wet and cold climate, lasting from 14.6 to 13.0 kyr B.P. Such a climate on the West Coast at this time has been previously suggested from glacier advance (e.g. Waiho Loop moraine) and decreased abundance of tall trees on the landscape. This event occurred too early to be a response to H0, but is synchronous with a return to cool climate in Antarctica. Thus West Coast climate appears to have been sensitive to changes in Antarctica as well as the North Atlantic. Isotopic minima (wet and cool climate) in South Island stalagmite GT05-5, which formed during the Holocene, first occurred 4.6 kyr B.P. This began a series of four oscillations in isotope ratios, the last terminating when the stalagmite was collected (2006). Onset of these oscillations is associated with initiation of ice advance in the Southern Alps, and beginning of the Neoglacial. The last oscillation displays enriched isotope ratios lasting from 1.2 to 0.8 kyr B.P. succeeded by depleted ratios lasting until 0.15 kyr B.P., mirroring the Medieval Climate Optimum and Little Ice Age, respectively, of European palaeoclimate records.
