Energioptimering genom samverkan : en nulägesrapport av sektorkoppling i Sverige / Energy Optimization through Integration : a Status Report of Sector Coupling in Sweden

Näslund, Katarina, Stafverfeldt, Andrea January 2020 (has links)
Including more renewable energy sources in the energy system is of great importance to enable Sweden to achieve its climate goals in unity of Agenda 2030. Sector coupling is a potential strategy for energy optimization, which in time could become a more established method to manage capacity issues, as well as permitting more renewable energy sources in the electricity grid. The purpose of this study is to compile a status report on current sector coupling in Sweden, with additional further investigation of region Gotland. The study is based on a comprehensive literature study as well as data collection through qualitative interviews with relevant stakeholders. Previous research and literature in the field enabled the identification of different technologies and methods relating to sector coupling. Qualitative data was gathered through unstructured interviews with represenatatives from companies and organizations having their focus set on energy planning in the Gotland region. The results consist of an assortment of various sector coupling technologies and their ability to increase the flexibility of the power grid and energy system in Sweden. In addition, several projects with diverse implementation of sector coupling strategies were also being mapped out. In conclusion, it became apparent that sector coupling is only at its earlier stages of implementation in Sweden. Further interest and commitment by customers and businesses is of great importance and needed to enable expansion of sector coupling technologies in Sweden. Moreover, the energy system requires standards, as well as financial incentives to promote further use of sector coupling in society.

Massaad, Fares 12 1900 (has links)
La revue narrative a suivi le modèle Scale for the Assessment of Narrative Review Articles. / The context of nursing staff shortage added to a sub-optimal management of resources has the consequence of increasing the odds of a break in service which is often countered by the use of mandatory overtime. This management method places increasing pressure on nurses. The use of mandatory overtime has harmful effects on patients, nurses and healthcare organizations. The aim of this study is to identify and critically analyze interventions that reduce mandatory overtime. Method A narrative review of the literature was performed to identify interventions used to reduce the use of mandatory overtime. The narrative review followed the Scale for the Assessment of Narrative Review Articles (SANRA) model. Our research identified 12 interventions that were reported as having the potential to reduce the use of mandatory overtime. They are applicable at 4 different levels in the organization of health services, namely the legislative level, the systemic level, the organizational level as well as the level of a care unit. Among these interventions, some seem to stand out, but few have been the subject of rigorous studies. We found several interventions that seem to have the potential to reduce mandatory overtime, but there exists very little evidence-based literature to support them. It seems that multiple concomitant interventions have a greater effect on mandatory overtime. Other interventions having an effect on determinant factors of mandatory overtime could have a potential effect on mandatory overtime. Even so, a need for studies showing the impact of interventions on mandatory overtime seems evident in light of our review.

OPTIMIZATION OF ENERGY MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR FUEL-CELL HYBRID ELECTRIC AIRCRAFT

Ayomide Samuel Oke (14594948) 23 April 2024 (has links)

Electric aircraft offer a promising avenue for reducing aviation's environmental impact through decreased greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. Nonetheless, their adoption is hindered by the challenge of limited operational range. Addressed in the study is the range limitation by integrating and optimizing multiple energy storage components—hydrogen fuel cells, Li-ion batteries, and ultracapacitors—through advanced energy management strategies. Utilizing meta-heuristic optimization methods, the research assessed the dynamic performance of each energy component and the effectiveness of the energy management strategy, primarily measured by the hydrogen consumption rate. MATLAB simulations validated the proposed approach, indicating a decrease in hydrogen usage, thus enhancing efficiency and potential cost savings. Artificial Gorilla Troop Optimization yielded the best results with the lowest average hydrogen consumption rate (102.62 grams), outperforming Particle Swarm Optimization (104.68 grams) and Ant Colony Optimization (105.96 grams). The findings suggested that employing a combined energy storage and optimization strategy can significantly improve the operational efficiency and energy conservation of electric aircraft. The study highlighted the potential of such strategies to extend the range of electric aircraft, contributing to a more sustainable aviation future.

Abstracts in English, Zulu and Xhosa / The study developed a management model to address burnout among teaching staff at private universities in Uganda. It examined the causes of burnout among teaching staff; explored the effect of prolonged stressors on burnout; and investigated the impact of burnout on the performance of teaching staff. A qualitative research approach with a case study design was followed. Lecturers (50), senior lecturers (40), faculty deans (25), and directors of teaching and learning and academic registrars (5) from five private chartered universities in central Uganda participated in the study. Participants were purposively selected to constitute multiple case studies. This study was ethically cleared by the research ethics committees of the University of South Africa (Unisa) and Gulu University. The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology subsequently permitted the adoption of an inductive thematic synthesis to analyse the qualitative data. Empirical data revealed that burnout among teaching staff had institutional causes such as: • conflicting directives • teaching staff’s need to accomplish tasks by a known deadline • delays in the issuance of teaching staff contracts • job insecurity • teaching staff’s incompetence due to skills gaps • limited teaching staff support leading to inadequacy • students’ disruptive behaviour • workload Interpersonal causes were: • unresolved family challenges • being overly ambitious • failing to progress academically • financial obligations • limited resources The study indicated that prolonged stress, such as stress caused by being part of a sub-quality product or having limited authority, leads to emotional burnout. Prolonged stress also leads to physical burnout, as was evident in the panic that ensued when payments were delayed after examination results had been submitted. Prolonged stress results in emotional exhaustion and behavioural challenges in the work environment. Participants reported the following: • limited autonomy • overload and pressure arising from deadlines • teaching staff incompetence • conflicts of responsibilities Empirical data revealed that burnout led to the following: • cognitive workplace deficiencies • emotional detachment • employee turnover • ineffectiveness • poor relationships Psychological burnout among teaching staff presented as unfriendliness towards students and poor student performance. A burnout management model was developed based on the findings of the study to address burnout among teaching staff at private universities. The model emphasises individual and institutional management strategies. Suggestions for further research were made. / Lolu cwaningo lusungule isifanekiso sokuphathwa ukwethulwa inkulumo ngokutubeka phakathi kwabafundisi ezimfundweni eziphakeme ezizimele e-Uganda. Management strategies for establishing discipline in primary classrooms in a KwaZulu-Natal district

Padayachie, Sagree 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate the management strategies conducive to establishing constructive discipline for optimal learning. The study represented a case study conducted in a primary school in the Empangeni district of KwaZulu-Natal. An in-depth literature study was followed by an empirical investigation based on a qualitative research design employing focus group and individual interviews. The research findings revealed that optimal learning is achieved through effective classroom management practices promoting constructive discipline. A classroom environment in which constructive discipline prevails includes the organisation of the physical environment in a functional way, the consideration of instructional strategies such as teachers being well-prepared for the lesson, as well as class routines and procedures being well communicated. Based on the findings of the empirical investigation, and concurring with the findings from literature, recommendations were made regarding classroom management strategies for constructive discipline in order to arrange for optimal learning. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. The role of knowledge management in enhancing organisational performance in selected banks in South Africa

Chigada, Joel 09 1900 (has links)
Knowledge management (KM) has been cited as a strategic asset and a source of competitive advantage for organisations. While the issues of KM have been widely discussed by many researchers, there is a paucity of studies pertaining to the role of KM in enhancing organisational performance, especially in the banking sector. The focus of this research was to investigate the role of KM in enhancing organisational performance in selected banks of South Africa. The objective was to find out how knowledge was identified, captured, organised and retained in order to enhance performance of the banks. There is uncertainty about whether the use of KM could partly solve the banks‟ approaches to improving their quality of service to their communities in the modern information environment. Though KM has been implemented in commercial and business environments towards operational advantages and financial gains, KM survival principles and tools might help South African banks improve performance and fulfil their mandate. Knowledge, when properly managed, can significantly enhance an organisation‟s performance. The research design that was used in this study was an embedded case study design. Quantitative data were collected from a sample of middle level managers with the aid of a survey whilst interviews and document analysis were used to collect qualitative data. The findings of this study indicated that KM concepts were not universally understood at selected banks. The findings showed that collaboration between banks and the communities in creating a meaningful and relevant knowledge environment was essential for the survival of organisations. The banking industry practices were not deliberately based on KM but the study established that they were amenable to KM practices. The recommendation was to perform a knowledge inventory which could help develop appropriate institution-wide policies and practices for proper and well-organised methods of integrating work processes, collaborating and sharing (including the efficient use of knowledge technology platforms), and developing an enabling institutional culture. / Information Science / D. Management strategies to alleviate the effects of stress and burnout on secondary school teachers within Ekurhuleni district in Gauteng province

Lekomo, Ojonla 11 1900 (has links)
The researcher investigated ways of alleviating stress and burnout among secondary school teachers. In this regard, factors causing teacher stress and burnout, the effect of stress and burnout on the quality of teaching and learning, support structures offered by secondary schools, and coping strategies to deal with stress and burnout were relevant. A total of 20 participants consisting of 12 teachers and 8 school management team members were interviewed using individual and focus group interviews, and participant observation. Findings revealed that teachers are experiencing a range of stressors of a consistent and prolonged nature leading to burnout. The allocation of unfamiliar subjects as a stressor appeared to be a new finding not noted in any of the previous literature. Stress and burnout constitute a threat to teacher retention and effective teaching and learning. Support structures offered to teachers are inadequate, resulting in teachers using ineffective stress coping strategies.
