[en] HEISENBERG AND THE GREEK PHILOSOPHY / [pt] HEISENBERG E A FILOSOFIA GREGAMARIETA TUNES DANTAS 24 March 2006 (has links)
[en] This dissertation has for objective to show the importance
and signification of
the reference to the greek philosophy in the thought of
Werner Heisenberg, one of the
main founders of quantum mechanics. The reference to the
greek philosophy,
constant in his writings, must first be situated in the
context of the critics to
modernity, one of the inherited lines of direction of
Niels Bohr and one of the most
basic characteristics of Heisenberg`s philosophy. That is,
the greek thought is, for
Heisenberg, a counterpoint to the beddings of the modern
philosophy, whose limits
are insurmountable with respect to the understanding of
the problems presented for
the modern physics. We believe, however, that is possible
to affirm that the constant
references, especially to Plato and Aristotle, have also a
fundamental role with
respect to the characterization of the level of reality
proper to the quantum
mechanics.

[en] SEMICLASSICAL STATES IN QUANTUM GRAVITY / [pt] ESTADOS SEMICLÁSSICOS NA GRAVIDADE QUÂNTICARAFAEL KAUFMANN NEDAL 11 September 2006 (has links)
LQG
No entanto,
Finalmente,
consideramos a quantização polimérica do campo
[en] Loop quantum gravity (LQG) is currently one of the most
promising
approaches to describing general relativity in quantum
terms. One of its
key issues is to detect in the quantum theory
semiclassical states whose
macroscopic properties are the same as those of specific
configurations of
the classical theory. In this dissertation, we begin by
presenting the LQG
formalism and its physical interpretation. From a
mathematical point of
view, LQG can be thought of as a canonical quantization of
a SU(2) gauge
theory in a 3-manifold. However, whereas the usual
approach generates
a representation exclusively by self-adjoint operators,
LQG's polymer
approach generates a mixed representation using both self-
adjoint and
unitary operators. We then take a polymer model, analogous
to LQG,
of the simplest physical system: the one-dimensional
movement of a point
particle. In this context, we develop a framework that
solves the problem
of semiclassical states, which are studied in detail.
Finally, we consider the
polymer quantization of the free electromagnetic field,
which results in an
abelian theory which is very similar to LQG. In this
context, it is possible
to apply the same framework that was developed for the
previous case.

[pt] O propósito deste trabalho é apresentar uma demonstração
simplificada do Teorema da Composicionalidade de Coecke,
o
qual diz respeito ao processamento de informação
quântica
agregada a estados emaranhados hpartidos. Utilizando a
Coecke. / [en] The purpose of this work is to present a simplified
demonstration of Co-
ecke's Compositionality Theorem, which refers to the
quantum information
processing associated to n-partite entangled states. By
using the universal
property of the tensor product in our proof, we will see
that is possible
to consider all the relevant states as being product
states, which turns the
demonstration much easier. We will present also the
teleportation process
of quantum states, so called nowadays, and verify finally
that such a process
is a trivial application of Coecke's theorem

estabelecida. / [en] The development of nanoscience and nanotechnology has a strong dependency
on the advance of computational chemistry. In this context, one of the most
important concepts is the basis functions set. This linear combination of functions
provides an approximate solution to Schrödinger equation for many electron
atoms and molecular systems. The construction of basis function is a complex
task and influences on the speed and precision of the electronic structures calculus
Conventional non-linear programming techniques have been extensively used in
parameterization, but they cannot be used to build a set of basis functions. This
work intends to propose a methodology based in Evolutionary Algorithms to
parameterize and search for the best way of using Gaussian primitives in calculus
of electronic structure. The advantage of using evolutionary techniques is the
ability to obtain good solutions for the continuous non-linear programming
problems, which are at the same time discrete. Also, there are no necessary
previous knowledge of good(standard) solutions for a certain problem. This work
had evaluated different ways of build basis functions with the use of evolutionary
algorithms. This essay inserts an unprecedented methodology in literature to
perform construction of atomic basis functions. The tool developed here was
applied to build the basis functions for the following atoms: B, C, N, O, F, Ne,
Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Cl, Ar. All cases of the applied methodology, which uses coevolutionary
algorithms, present better results than the ones described in
literature.

Previous issue date: 2010-05-27 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The objective of this dissertation is to discuss the religious elements in
the work of Indian physicist Amit Goswami. Goswami became a familiar figure in the
New Age movement because of his proposal to interpret quantum mechanics −based
on the idea of a non-local and transcendent conscience as the foundation of reality −
and for his advocacy of a synthesis between spirituality and scientific discourse. The
text begins with a history of connections between science and religion proposed
since the mid 19th century until the rise of New Age in the 1970s. Its main focus is
the dialogue between science and religion which began to be settled with the
development of quantum mechanics. The dissertation approaches the work of
Goswami with the intent of highlighting its main ideas: the criticism of materialist
realism, the mystical origin of religions, their inability to adequately convey the
essential truth of the mystical experience, his confidence that certain experiments
could support the belief in a transcendent dimension of reality and the moral crisis
experienced by modern societies. Next, the dissertation uses the definition of religion
proposed by Geertz and makes evident the religious element of Goswami´s speech
characterized by its quest to link cosmology and ethos in order to substantiate a new
ethic for contemporary societies. Finally, Hanegraaff´s definitions of spirituality and
religion allow distinguish his Goswami s work as an example of spirituality based on
a secular symbolic system / O objetivo desta dissertação é discutir o elemento religioso presente na
obra do físico indiano Amit Goswami.

Previous issue date: 2008-09-15 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / This historical research analyses the initial period of construction of wave
mechanics, as propounded by the Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger (1887-
1961), emphasizing his work from December 1925 to February 1926. During these
months Schrödinger created the basis of his quantum theory and wrote his two
earlier papers on this subject. They were published in the Annalen der Physik. The
present dissertation analyses those two papers, and some of their precedents and
immediate consequences. Special attention is given to the influence of the theory
of matter waves of the French physicist Louis de Broglie (1892-1987) upon the
development of Schrödinger s theory, as well as other works and relevant
circumstances that contributed to the creation of wave mechanics. The
dissertation also discusses the interpretation given by Schrödinger to his own
theory, comparing it to the approach of other physicists of that time / O presente trabalho histórico investiga a fase inicial da construção da
