The Micropolitics of Community Supported Agriculture: Connection, Discourses, and Subjects

Ryan, Michelle 13 February 2024 (has links)
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a system whereby members purchase shares in a farm in the spring and then receive produce (maple syrup, meat, honey, vegetables, fruit, etc.) over the course of the growing season. The significance of this system is contested with critics, chiefly sociologist Julie Guthman (2008), asserting that CSA reproduces neoliberalism. Guthman's thesis on the relationship between practices, subjectivities, and political imaginaries is generative. My intervention is predominantly methodological. Guthman offers a systemic overview, in keeping with Michel Foucault's scholarship on governmentality, but does not explore the embodied nature of governmentality at the scale of the people involved. I contend that to understand how neoliberal governmentality plays out in CSA, we need to explore embodied practices at the scale of the people involved. I rely on Dorothy Smith's agent perspective and examine the practices associated with CSA for a discursive reading of those practices. My discursive reading employs J.K. Gibson-Graham's diverse economies approach. Participation in CSA cultivates a sense of connection to a local geographic community, and a community of practice, contrary to the seemingly individualized nature of the market transactions which form the basis of CSA. This sense of connection is supportive of prefigurative practices, farming practices, and activism. The relationality experienced by CSA farmers and members undergirds political activism, and the connection to communities of practice galvanizes and supports both discursive and protest practices. Attention to discourse at the scale of the individual provides insight into how discourses are co-produced and allows us to observe discourses in various stages of development, from those just entering the public square on social media, to those further developed, conceptually rich, with saliency for both farmers and members, and linked to political protest. The communities that exist in opposition to the individualization of neoliberalism, the production of discourse that both resists and reinscribes neoliberalism, and the practices that shape our subjects and political imaginaries, visible at this scale, provide insight into the connection between local and global discourses, and the connection between everyday practices and protest.

[en] CEP 20.000, A VIBRATING BODY / [pt] CEP 20.000, UM CORPO QUE VIBRA

RICARDO DE CARVALHO DUARTE 22 April 2020 (has links)
[en] This research is about the Center for Poetic Experimentation - CEP 20,000, a monthly multi-language event held in Rio de Janeiro since 1990. Initially, a Temporary Autonomous Zone (Hakim Bey) was promised, but it has become a movement that for 4 generations a free enclave for new forms of artistic expression and critical thinking. The purpose of the research is to read the CEP through the formation of new ones generated by frequent encounters. How it crosses the city and is crossed by it. The text is structured through heterogeneous series of combined fragments, with excerpts from theoretical-poetic texts, events and performances that occurred in the CEP. Starting from a comparison with the period of counterculture and Marginal Poetry in the 1970s, my intention is to strain this experience in constant mutation with the reflections that Suely Rolnik has been developing around the vibrating body and the micropolitics of the affections, in intercession with Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. The major emphasis of the research will fall on the forms of subjectivation and the place of the other in CEP 20,000.

The development of working relationships between indigenous and expatriate teachers : a case study

Brown, Byron Alditon 01 January 2002 (has links)
The education reform efforts in Botswana have focused predominantly on teacher preparation, recruitment and compensation. Recruitment efforts have resulted in a significant number of expatriates working with indigenous teachers in many schools. However, as the schools are currently upgraded and restructured, the quality of the working relationships forged between indigenous and expatriate teachers represents one vital aspect in the reform effort that has gone almost unattended. Many teachers have become dissatisfied and concerned about these relationships, despite compensation and preparation. A decisive first step in attending to these relationships lies in understanding how they develop. The aim of this exploratory study was to identify and describe factors related to the development of working relationships between indigenous and expatriate teachers and illustrate how those factors contribute to the development of these relationships. The study employed a micropolitical perspective and through phenomenological interviews, observation and document analysis, indicated that cultural differences in language and communication, regard for time, handling of student discipline, work ethics and professionalism along with ambiguity and uncertainty, professional and interpersonal obligations, indigenous to expatriate teacher ratio and the interplay of micropolitics are related to the development of these relationships. Results, however, are specific to one school context and should not be generalized. The study recommends management strategies such as provision of programmes for cultural exchange, communication mode standardization, a dean of discipline system, faculty building and further research to redress the situation. / Further Teacher Education / M.Ed.

Atenção especializada no SUS: da máquina de produção de procedimentos a uma rede de produção de cuidados / Specialized attention in the SUS: from the production machine of procedures to a network of care production

Carmo, Débora do 09 August 2017 (has links)
The experience of building the Brazilian Public Health System has allowed reflections and changes of concept both in relation to the management process and the organization of care. Seemingly almost unquestionable propositions, such as the hierarchization of health services and the reference and counter-reference system, with Primary Attention Care as the basis of the pyramid, have been the subject of important resignifications. The specialized care is set up as a critical place in health care, traditionally built as a production space of consultations and procedures, detached from the discussion of care management and the constitution of a care network. This space is also marked by a lack of formulations and debates about bets, concepts and possibilities. The few publications on the subject have as main markers the regulation and management of queues. Thus, devices that approach workers from the specialized attention to the different places of care, breaking with the fragmented logics, configure experiences that must be more than shared, mapped and analyzed, better still if from experience, living experience and implication of various actors. The purpose of this dissertation was to make a cartographic study of the experience of São Bernardo do Campo/SP in the organization of specialized care within the care network, highlighting the devices that allowed the approach, constitution of spaces of conversation and exchange among workers to build new meanings to the integrality statements, accountability, shared care and solidarity.

Gilles Deleuze y la inversión del platonismo

Martínez Mellado, Asunción 23 October 1987 (has links)
With this study we analyse and expound the leitmotif that underlies G. Deleuze's philosophy. M. Foucault stated: "The XXI century will be Deleuzian". We will centre on G. Deleuze's first period works, above all on Différence y répétition, Logique du sens, L'Anti-Oedipe and Mille plateaux. In this works Deleuze establishes the foundations of all his further thought. It is a question of showing the way Deleuze carries out the Nietzschean proposal of reversing Platonism. Reversing Platonism is for Deleuze Thinking about the future. This Deleuzian attempt to make a real and positive philosophy of what is to become will be the subject of the first part of "The adventure of difference".The Adventure of Difference has two main moments: a) the construction of a transcendental empiricism, underlain by an aesthetics or ontology of intensity and b) the drawing up of a metaphysics of eventuation and ghost. In the second part, we tackle the reducing to practice of that philosophy in "the sqizoanalysis: a theoretical proposal, a war machine".Deleuze and F. Guattari state that squizoanalysis aims at: the capitalist machinery, its rational pathology and the irrational ground it builds upon. As well as the revolutionary mechanisms or war machine used to fight against repression powers that sap and undermine from the inside desire and the social. This task, that is by no means outside the reversal of Platonism, gets updated in two phases, the one named "Adventures and misfortunes of desire" (true history is the history of desire, Deleuze said); and the one called "The machine-like unconscious: a thousand plains do not make a mountain".In the first part, Deleuze y Guattari suggest a machine-like conception of the unconscious and of desire. L'Antioedipe develops this conception. In the second part Deleuze carries out what we might call the building, the own creation of the said unconscious, worked out in Mille Plateaux. Several approaches, several plateaux, make up the new system: rhizomatic, process of stratification, pragmatics, micropolitics, nomadology, will become now the figures of squizoanalisys. In Mille plateaux, squizoanalysis is presented as a map, a network, a diagram of lines of power that cross reality. Finally it should not be forgotten that squizoanalysis has a political and revolutionary side, or even better, it intends to be a revolutionary practice of political-wishing liberation and of free experimenting. "Thinking is experimenting, creating!" ¡What better reversal of Platonism!Terms: abstract machine, agencyment, body without organs, consistency plane, countenancing, war machine, reversal of Platonism, squizoanalysis, difference, repetition, micropolitics, nomadology.

This research aims to investigate the configuration process of care production in the Elderly Health Reference Center (EHRC), multiprofessional and interdisciplinary program, taking place at the Antonio Pedro University Hospital, Niterói (RJ). Analyse the institutional device of care production and the outcome of the proposed interventions. The theoretical approach is circumscribed by micropolitics of living work in action (Merhy, 2002), that argues the actions and modes of health production in daily life. It is used as a theoretical concept-tool to raise questions about the field forces of technological arrangements present in the way of conducting the elderly care in the EHRC. The research problem questions the network configuration of lines of care and the way it impacts resolubility of assistance actions proposed to Elder users of the Reference Center. Cartography is the research method proposed; based on Felix Guattari and Gilles Deleuze semiotics that replaces logical copula with the radical conjunction “and” mapping the connective-flux of “living work” and the way through territories constituted in its processability. Operates a qualitative approach, valuing the subjective dimension of users and health workers lived practices at the institution

[pt] EU ESTOU PERDIDA ENTRE O MEU SONHO, MEUS IDEAIS E MINHAS DÍVIDAS: UMA ANÁLISE DISCURSIVA DE EMOÇÕES COMO MICROPOLÍTICAS DE RESISTÊNCIA NO PROCESSO DE (TRANS)FORMAÇÃO DOCENTE / [en] I M TORN BETWEEN MY DREAM, MY BELIEFS AND MY DEBTS: A DISCURSIVE ANALYSIS OF EMOTIONS AS MICROPOLITICS OF RESISTANCE IN AN EVER-TRANSFORMING PROCESS OF TEACHER EDUCATION

TARCISIO DA SILVA NICACIO 29 December 2020 (has links)
[en] In this dissertation, I probe how three language teachers, agents in academic contexts, come together and discursively construct emotions as micropolitics of resistance in an ever-transforming process of teacher education. In this sense, I make use of constructs from the Appraisal Theory (MARTIN; ROSE, 2007), embedded in Systemic Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY, 1994; VIAN JR., 2009), so as to employ a microdiscursive analysis of our negotiated evaluation. Also, I observe to what extent our evaluations challenge Discourses (GEE, 2005) which mobilize essentialisms as instruments of depoliticization and domination towards teacher-student relationship. In doing so, I align myself with an indisciplinary perspective of Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2006; FABRÍCIO, 2006), with epistemological intersections between the conceptions of the micropolitics of emotions (REZENDE; COELHO, 2010), ethical friendship (ORTEGA, 2000) and emotions as anti-hegemonic actions in pedagogical relations (hooks, 2013; FREIRE, 2013). In developing some (auto)ethnographic research, I deem my voice intertwined with those of the coparticipants in a potentially exploitable reflective conversation (MILLER et al., 2008). In this exploratory methodology, we seek understandings as to quality of life, an in-between institutional place of pre-service teachers and human suffering (MILLER, 2013), issues which are intensified by political matters of gender, class and race (hooks, 2013). Results indicate that emotions are constitutive of this process, acting both as instruments of domination as well as of emancipation. In instances of resistance, micropolitical emotions of trust, support and empathy emerge predominantly, with the acknowledgment of institutional power relations and sociopolitical asymmetries at play.
