Já para a classe dos tocoferóis, uma equação DIPPR foi ajustada para a pressão de vapor e derivada para a entalpia de vaporização / Abstract: Oils and fats are an important source of energy, essential fatty acids, vitamins and nutritional source of natural antioxidants, plus the recent demand for feedstock for biodiesel production. Overwhelmingly, undergo some type of processing before being used for human consumption. Moreover, derived from vegetable oils such as fatty acids, fatty esters, trigacylglycerols, diacylglycerols and monoacylglycerols are important oleochemicals, application in the food and chemical industries. In this context, knowledge and description of the behavior of thermophysical properties of fatty due to different processing variables compounds may be of great practical utility. However, experimental data for these properties in the open literature are scarce. In the case of the boiling temperature of partial acylglcerols (mono- and diacylglycerols), the database of experimental data consists of only six values for six different monoacylglycerols at 0.13 kPa. As for the tocopherols, an open literature monolog shows a graph of vapor pressure (0.004 kPa up to 0.5 kPa) versus temperature (453 K up to 533 K). No data could be found for the different tocopherols (?-, ?-, ?- and ?-). Thus, in this work we determine the boiling temperatures four partial acylglycerols, monocaprin, monocaprylin, dicaprin and dicaprylin at low pressures (1.0 kPa up to 13.2 kPa) and ?-, ?-, ?- and ?- tocopherols 1.1 kPa, using the technique of differential scanning calorimetry, which is very suitable for compounds that are susceptible to thermal and oxidative degradation, and quite expensive (samples in the order of milligrams). For partial acylglycerols, parameters of Clapeyron, Antoine and DIPPR (Design Institute for Physical Properties) equations were adjusted. In the case of DIPPR equation, were included in the regression values estimated by the group contribution method of Marrero and Gani to the normal boiling point and critical point. The enthalpy of vaporization was estimated using the Clausius-Clapeyron relation with the inclusion of a correction term for deviations at higher pressures. As for the class of tocopherols a DIPPR equation was adjusted for vapor pressure and derived for the enthalpy vaporization / Mestrado / Desenvolvimento de Processos Químicos / Mestra em Engenharia Química

Under the problem Which the powers of the concept of minor pedagogy to Visual Arts Education?, aims to deploy and present the concept of minor pedagogy, using it to interrogate the field of Visual Arts Education. In contrast, the model of higher education of the Visual Arts Education, expressed by the Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais of the area, with the possibility of a minor pedagogy. The minor pedagogy is understood as practices that divert, undermine and undo the claims of a higher education. A higher education is that engendered by that legitimizes by a macropolitics educational policies, parameters and guidelines, etc. The concept of minor pedagogy minor was drafted by Sílvio Gallo, from the book Kafka for a minor literature of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, in which these create the concept of minor literature. Both concepts have three coefficients: desterritorialization, political branch and collective value. This dissertation preserves such coefficients, but throws four propositions about the concept of minor pedagogy: I) The minor pedagogy works as a war machine in the educational territory; II) the minor pedagogy is rhizomatic; III) the minor pedagogy works through a micropolitics; IV) A knowledge of experience is a minor know. The study developed as bibliographical research. The central theoretical tools and dizzying write-downs signal in the thought of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, Michel Foucault, Jorge Larrosa and Sílvio Gallo.

Genomic diversity and functional analysis of the solute carrier genes within indigenous African and Cape Admixed populations

Pearce, Brendon Clive January 2016 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / Solute carrier transporters belonging to the major facilitator family of membrane transporter are increasingly being recognized as a possible mechanism to explain inter-individual variation in drug efficacy and response. Genetic factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 15-30% of inter-individual variation in drug disposition and response. The aims of this study were to determine the minor allele frequencies of 78 previously identified single nucleotide polymorphisms in the pharmacogenomically relevant SLC22A1-3 and SLCO1B1 genes in the Admixed population of South Africa. Thereafter, to determine whether allele and genotype frequencies for these SNP were different from that reported for other African, Caucasian, and Asian populations. The inferred haplotypes from the genetic information possessed the potential to subsequently be used in future to design and interpret results of pharmacogenomic association studies involving these genes and their substrate drugs. Furthermore, to determine whether the Cape Admixed population harbour novel SNPs in the proximal promoter regions of SLC22A1- 3 and SLCO1B1-3 genes, that encodes hOCT1-3 and hOATP1 and hOATP3, respectively. SNaPshot™ multiplex single base mini-sequencing systems were developed and optimized for each of SLC22A1, SLC22A2, SLC22A3, and SLCO1B1 genes covering the previously identified 78 SNPs. These systems were then used to genotype the alleles of 130 healthy Cape Admixed subjects residing in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, the proximal promoter regions of the SLC22A1-3 and SLCO1B1-3 genes of 96 of the participants were screened for novel SNPs by direct sequencing. The Cape Admixed subjects investigated displayed a lack of variation and were monomorphic for 78% of the SNPs screened. None of the SLC22A3 SNPs investigated was observed in this study. Sequencing of the proximal promoter regions of the SLC22 and SLCO genes did not reveal any novel SNPs in the 96 Cape Admixed subjects that were screened. This study highlights the fact that African populations do not have the same allele frequencies for SNPs in harmacogenomically relevant genes. Furthermore, the Cape Admixed and other African populations do not share all reduced-function variants of the SLC22A1-3 and SLCO1B1-3 genes with Caucasian and Asian populations. In addition, previously identified novel regulatory variants in SLC22A2 did not exhibit a significant effect on the ability of the promoter to drive transcription. However, it must be noted that these results were observed at 95% confidence interval, and that a 99% confidence interval the significance may increase theoretically. Additionally, it should be noted that more intensive studies are required to determine the potential effect these novel variants may well cause. This study lays the foundation for the design and interpretation of future pharmacogenomic association studies between the variant alleles of the SLC22A and SLCO genes in the Cape Admixed population, as well as optimizations for future expression, and more importantly, drug transport assays with respect to drug disposition and efficacy. / National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Medical Research Council (MRC)

Právní aspekty poskytování zdravotní péče nezletilým / Legal aspects of providing health care to minors

Biskupová, Klára January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of providing health care to minors in the legislation of the Czech Republic. The area of providing health care has significantly changed in recent years. Nearly half a century old People's Health Care Act from 1966 was substituted by current Health Services Act and other acts, that were enacted during the reform of medical law as a response to the transformation of the traditional paternalistic conception of the relationship between doctor and patient into a partner conception. The issue of health care provision has also been affected by the adoption of the new Civil Code that regulates protection of human personality and interventions into his integrity and includes an agreement on health care as one of the contractual types. Two acts are standing abreast - Civil Code and Health Services Act, whose relation cannot be generally assessed on the basis of the principle lex specialis derogat legi generali, but it is appropriate on this basis to assess relation of particular provisions. This has created doubts for physicians, which one from these two acts with the same legal force they should follow while providing health care. Uncertainty in the area affecting the physical integrity of a person, much less the physical integrity of a minor child as a person...

Právní postavení nezletilého v civilním soudním řízení / Legal status of a minor in civil proceedings

Sedláčková, Kristína January 2016 (has links)
Legal status of a minor in civil proceedings The diploma thesis describes different stages and types of civil proceedings in their relation to the legal position of a minor (person under the age of 18). Legal position of a minor is assessed mainly in relation to his mental capacity and to the procedural rights to which the minor is entitled. The thesis approaches all of the civil proceedings from the point of view of a minor and points out all proceedings in which the minor can find himself to be a witness or a party. The main focus is given to the proceedings governed by the Act no. 292/2013 Coll., Code on Special Court Proceedings. A detailed description of the proceedings regarding interim relief, the court proceedings itself as well as the execution of a court decision is given. Furthermore, the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into the Czech civil proceedings was assessed. The main focus of this assessment was given to the best interest principle and to the child's right to be heard in matters directly affecting him. Each proceeding is also analysed from the point of the public authorities and other parties involved. In particular, the thesis assessed the position of the court (judge), of the child care services and the legal guardians of the minor. The main goal of the...

Korespodence mezi kvantoidy a matroidy / Correspodence between quantoids and matroids

Miklín, Vojtěch January 2017 (has links)
The notion of quantoid is an analogy to the notion of matroid in the context of quantum realm. This thesis summarizes basic properties of quantoids and the correspondence between quantoids and selfdual matroids. A new set of axioms is derived as an alternative to the set which was used as the original definition of quantoid. A catalog enumerating all quantoids with the size of their ground set up to 5 elements is attached in the appendix and a larger database of quantoids (up to 7 elements in the ground set) is enclosed as an attachment of this thesis.

Calling NHS 24 : exploring caller decision making and help seeking behaviour within the context of out-of-hours health care provision

Doyle, Emma Anne January 2015 (has links)
Decisions about where and when to seek advice about illness are known to be complex and are often bound up with issues of risk, responsibility and legitimacy. They can be particularly difficult in situations where the meaning and severity of symptoms is unclear. In deciding whether or not to seek help, people must negotiate the tension between using health services in ways that are considered appropriate, while not taking risks with their health or that of the person they are caring for. This thesis explores how individuals account for a specific decision to call NHS 24 about symptoms in themselves or someone they were caring for and how that decision fits within their use of health services more generally. Building on what is already known about help-seeking behaviour, it seeks to understand how people interpret symptoms as needing or not needing attention and what is understood by appropriate help-seeking in the context of out-of-hours care. There have been significant changes to the way that out-of-hours health care is provided in Scotland. An increase in routes into care means that people must negotiate a complex health system when seeking help. At the same time, pressure on resources has created an imperative to ensure that health care is used in the most efficient way possible. NHS 24 is primarily an out-of hours triage service providing assessment and, where necessary, referral to other services. At its inception, NHS 24 was presented as being designed to simplify access to health care by acting as a ‘gateway’ to the NHS in Scotland. However, increasing demand has led to attempts to limit use of NHS 24, in the out-of-hours period, to situations where symptoms are considered to be too urgent to wait for a GP appointment. NHS 24 can now be understood as one of a number of different points of access to health care that people must choose between; this requires individuals to engage in a process of categorising their symptoms according to urgency as a way of ensuring that their call is considered appropriate. The thesis draws on data from 30 in-depth semi-structured interviews with people who had called NHS 24 in the out-of-hours period. The symptoms the participants had called about were generally, though not universally, what might be classed as minor symptoms. Most of the interviewees were given self-care advice rather than referral for a face-to-face consultation. The interviews focussed on a specific contact with NHS 24 but aimed to situate the call in the context of the interviewee’s understanding of NHS 24, as well as their illness behaviour and use of health services more generally. The analysis suggests that people’s understandings of NHS 24 are not straightforward and that this can cause some confusion and even anxiety for callers. Interviewees’ accounts emphasise uncertainty about the severity of symptoms, a sense of worry that symptoms may be indicative of a serious problem, and the inadequacy of their own knowledge in the face of potential risks. In talking about their reasons for calling NHS 24, they describe seeking, and obtaining, reassurance that they were ‘doing the right thing’. Although they generally construct themselves as healthy individuals, confident in their ability to self-care, and as responsible users of health services, people spoke frequently about their reliance on expert clinical knowledge in decision-making. The analysis suggests that when explored in the context of individual circumstances and the broader social context, calling NHS 24 about minor symptoms can be constructed as a rational and responsible act. While this thesis is primarily an exploration of the accounts of individuals who have called NHS 24, the accounts are situated within the broader social and structural context in which those individuals make their decisions about symptoms and help-seeking. A social constructionist perspective sees illness behaviour as shaped by the social structures and values of a society and by the health system operating in that society. Equally, the health system is shaped by individual actors, who define it by how they choose to use it and what they expect it to deliver. This thesis argues that understandings of risk and individual responsibility, as well as a policy emphasis on self-surveillance and self-care, shape the decisions made by individuals as well as the discourses available to them to account for those decisions. Drawing on theories of medicalisation and lay re-skilling, the thesis also aims to develop an understanding of the space that NHS 24 occupies in Kleinman’s (1980) model of the health system, and whether the service might best be conceptualised as ‘legitimation’ or ‘colonisation’ of the popular sector (Stevenson et al. 2003).

Access and Barriers to Services for Dependent and Non-Dependent Commercially Sexually Exploited Children in Florida

O'steen, Brianna 15 July 2016 (has links)
“Human trafficking” has become part of the everyday lexicon in the United States and globally over the last fifteen years. The issue has made its way into political platforms, scholarly work, church congregations, and international aid agendas. Florida is currently recognized as third in the nation for number of cases of human trafficking. This thesis employs ethnographic interviews and observations to understand one portion of Florida’s human trafficking problem referred to as domestic minor sex trafficking. This type of trafficking affects mostly teenage girls from marginalized populations, such as those that have experienced the child welfare system, homelessness, and impoverished circumstances. In 2013 the state passed the Florida Safe Harbor Act, modeled after the New York State Safe Harbour for Exploited Children Act, to address the needs of this population through legislation. The Act specifies certain policy and procedural changes, as well as the role of the Department of Children and Families. Further, it prohibits minors from facing prostitution charges, recognizing that they cannot consent to commercial sex because of their age. This study investigates the Safe Harbor Act’s impact on agencies and the public in terms of raising awareness about domestic minor sex trafficking. With no immediate funding attached to the bill, or dedicated in the state budget, Florida is still struggling to provide adequate care for this population. In addition to policy analysis, this study examined existing services, assessed current needs in the field, and created an interactive map to locate services for professionals working in the field. While Florida has clearly improved its ability to manage these cases over the last three years, there is still much work to be done to address domestic minor sex trafficking. Based on these findings, this thesis offers recommendations for policy and further research on successful practices in working with this population’s specific needs.

Le statut du mineur délinquant malade physiquement, face à l'autorité judiciaire / The status of the juvenile offender physically ill face the judicial authority

Gaudin, Audrey 11 September 2015 (has links)
The proliferation of juvenile delinquency raises many questions. Thus, how to provide a fair and appropriate response to the minor, especially when it is sufferingfrom a physical condition requiring heavy and ongoing care? There is a real legal vacuum in this area, which undoubtedly poses practical difficulties. Neither the law of August 15th 2014 concerning the individualization ofsentences, nor the orders of reform projects from February 2nd 1945 on juvenile delinquency, bring concrete answers to this situation.Therein, after researching on the spot, it appears that legal professionals were doing, generally, as much as possible, a case-by-case treatment, because of olack of legal texts. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to provide actionable insights on possible adjustments of the criminal proceedings, from the stage of theinquiry to the execution of the sentence. The subject is part of evolving legal developments with respect to ongoing reform projects.

Simplified Derivation of the Collision Probability of Two Objects in Independent Keplerian Orbits

JeongAhn, Youngmin, Malhotra, Renu 28 April 2017 (has links)
Many topics in planetary studies demand an estimate of the collision probability of two objects moving on nearly Keplerian orbits. In the classic works of Opik and Wetherill, the collision probability was derived by linearizing the motion near the collision points, and there is now a vast amount of literature using their method. We present here a simpler and more physically motivated derivation for non-tangential collisions in Keplerian orbits, as well as for tangential collisions that were not previously considered. Our formulas have the added advantage of being manifestly symmetric in the parameters of the two colliding bodies. In common with the Opik-Wetherill treatments, we linearize the motion of the bodies in the vicinity of the point of orbit intersection (or near the points of minimum distance between the two orbits) and assume a uniform distribution of impact parameter within the collision radius. We point out that the linear approximation leads to singular results for the case of tangential encounters. We regularize this singularity by use of a parabolic approximation of the motion in the vicinity of a tangential encounter.
