Missiological cell group praxis in the local churchVan der Merwe, Pieter Retief 11 1900 (has links)
The contention of this study is that missiological cell group praxis is an appropriate vehicle to mobilize the local church for world evangelization - centrifugally reaching from "Jerusalem" and "Judea and Samaria" to the "ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Methodologically it follows the pastoral circle of Holland & Henriot and investigates the missiological praxis of various small faith communities. The principles of the cosmological framework of Calvisnism (Kuyper, Dooyeweerd) are brought to bear on the missionary endeavours of the local church, with reference to the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa. It argues for a missiologically integrated Cell Church, based on a definition of mission and evangelism, which is aimed at overcoming the fragmented missiological situation in mainline churches. This study argues that these small groups function as the basic cells of the local and universal Church, and shows how these communities come into existence and function as missiological outreach groups. / Christian Spirituality Church History and Missiology / M. The Evangelical Church of Central Africa facing socio-ethnic problems: missiological perspectives from the Republic of BurundiHarimenshi, Privat-Biber 06 1900 (has links)
Since independence, Burundi has lost over a million of its inhabitants to ethnic conflict. Political collaboration is divided along ethnic lines and this has destroyed the ethnic solidarity and good social relationships that characterized the pre-colonial period.
Ideally, the mission of the Evangelical Church of Central Africa (ECCA) when faced with Burundi’s tragic and successive socio-ethnic wars should have been to promote peace, social justice, ethnic cohabitation, national reconciliation, respect for human rights, national reconstruction and to denounce all harm and discrimination against the human being.
The ECCA has a sacred mission to announce the gospel to all humanity and to assist the people towards the positive socio-economic and political transformation of Burundi.
This study will be of help to missiological scholars and to the church so that it may better carry out its prophetic mission according to God’s vision and with the purpose of positively transforming Burundian society. / Christian Spritituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Th. (Missiology)

Major missiological motifs in North American classical pentecostal missionsNewberry, Warren Bruce 05 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This thesis is a study of several major motifs found in classical
Pentecostal missiology in the North American scene. It is both a missiologically interpreted study based on the historical antecedents of Pentecostal mission theology and a Pentecostal interpretation of five major motifs germane to Evangelical and Pentecostal missiology in this present time.
The intent and purpose of this study is to begin in chapter two with the
Antecedents and Matrix of Pentecostalism per se and interpret them through missiological eyes. Topics such as the Holiness-Wesleyan roots of Pentecostalism which includes looking at such personages as John Wesley, Charles Finney, et al are studied. As well, the Reformed, non-Wesleyan roots of Pentecostalism are highlighted which includes Premillennialism, Dwight Moody, Reuben Torrey, A J Gordon, and A B Simpson, and Divine Healing. Finally, one arrives at the matrix of
modern day Pentecostalism. The major emphasis is placed upon Charles Parham, William Seymour, the Azusa Street Mission, and on African American Pentecostals.
The remaining chapters are an articulation, evaluation, and interpretation of five major Pentecostal mission theologies (practices) that emerged from the antecedents and appear to be in common with the majority of classical Pentecostal denominations.
Chapter three deals with The Lostness of the Human Race. Topics included are lnterreligious dialogue, 'Life boat salvation', and the exclusiveness of Christ.
Chapter four handles the concepts of Church Planting and Evangelism from perspectives of the Ecumencials, Evangelicals, and Pentecostals. In chapter five, the understanding of Indigenous Church Principles is studied from its origin to present- day application. Notable persons are Melvin Hodges and Morris Williams. Most relevant to present-day missiology is chapter six which deals with Social Responsibility and how Pentecostal missiology has responded to this need. Finally,
Pneumatology as characterized by Pentecostal mission theology is studied.
Emphasis is placed on Xenolalia, the Great Commission, Traditional Pentecostal Pneumatology, Pentecostal hermeneutics, and the Holy Spirit in missions. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. Th. (Missiology)

This is a investigative study that researches the Tsonga perception of sexuality. Emphasis has been placed on the ethical and socio cultural aspects of sexuality in order to provide guidelines to the Christian church. The qualitative method of research was used. In chapters two and three a detailed account of the Tsonga's sexual perceptions and practices is given. Firstly the non-Christian Tsonga was studied and then the Christian Tsonga. The non-Christian Tsonga's sexuality is interspersed with mythical practices and beliefs. The Christian Tsonga have less of the mythical but show little conformation to the traditional Christian values. From the traditional African religions a specific ethic was inherited. These ethical principles differ substantially from the Christian ethics. The Christian ethic is a normative ethic where the motive for an action is as important as the action itself. The inherited African ethic is less interested in the intentions of the person doing the action. The consequence of the action is what matters. The question is asked why the Christian Tsonga did not move closer to the accepted Christian norms. It was found that the inherited social traditions, uses and values exert more influence on the sexuality than the religion. It is above all the process of alienation that the Tsonga culture is presently enduring, that leads to a situation of poor contact and a lack of purpose. Can the church deliver any contribution towards the sexuality of the Tsonga? It was found that the Christian mission could make a facilitating contribution towards the Tsonga believers, enabling them to bring about a local theology of sexuality. It is important that the Tsonga community should be its own theologian. In this manner the Christian religion can make an enriching contribution towards the sexuality of the Tsonga. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / Th. D. (Sendingwetenskap)

The missiological dimensions of African ecclesiologyAndriatsimialomananarivo, Solomon 11 1900 (has links)
The growth of the Church in Africa, namely at numerical level, is tremendous. However, we notice that her impact on society and public life is not so visible as the growth is, since Christian values are embodied by Christians. Yet, the Church has huge human resources, pastors, missionaries, lay leaders and theologians. The challenge for the Church in Africa is to incarnate and inculturate these values and the living message of the Gospel. In this thesis we question the co-operation between the Church and mission agencies, between native pastors and western missionaries. We notice that since 150 years, there has been a huge gap between these two entities. This is due to the fact that Theology and Missiology look like two lines that never meet. This situation leads us to revisit not only the current paradigm Church-Mission but also the current link between Theology and Missiology. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D.Th. [en] DIALOGUE AND ANNOUNCEMENT, FROM THE VATICAN II / [pt] DIÁLOGO E ANÚNCIO, A PARTIR DO VATICANO II16 October 2003 (has links)
[en] Dialogue and announcement, from the Vatican II are a double
activity that the Church has developed, in an inherent way,
with the new appeared religious approach since then. Even
though the Church has dialogued, throughout its existence,
with different kind of people to which it took the
announcement of the Christian salvation, the gradual Inter-
religious approach, that appears since Vatican Council II,
brings new and generating elements of a considerable
tension: it is given, doubtless, a shock , in the concrete
participation of the dialogue, among the proposals of each
religious tradition, for the solution of those questions
that disturb the human being, in the closest of its being.
Which is the origin? Which is the last end? Thus, the
interest of this work is about the treatment with this
double present aspect in the mission of the Church today:
its participation in the Inter-religious dialogue, taking
into consideration the requirements that are peculiar,
however, fulfilling its duty to announce to the people the
salvation brought by Jesus Christ.

Towards mission spirituality in the Presbyterian community of KinshasaMpinga, Athas Cibangu 30 June 2007 (has links)
The mission of the Church in the Presbyterian Community of Kinshasa is understood in its
narrow sense of evangelism and church planting. Moreover the institutional and doctrinal
conservatism, the maintenance mindset of the Church and its inadaptability to the challenges
of a changing world, are some of the characteristics of the lack of mission awareness and
mission spirituality.
This dissertation is an attempt to impart mission awareness and mission spirituality within the
Presbyterian Community of Kinshasa. The study of mission Dei and mission spirituality helps
in understanding the divine origins of missions, the nature and identity of the Church. In
addition, it unveils the Christian lifestyle that stems from the relationship with Christ and from
the mission consciousness, and that is empowered by the Holy Spirit. Some strategies are
proposed with the aim of updating and promoting a holistic, inclusive and integral
understanding and practice of mission in the Church. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Th. (Missiology)

Towards a new vision of the laity and their mission : an exploration of the response of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary to the Vatican II documentsCsiszer, Monika 28 February 2006 (has links)
The present study explores how the guiding principles and aspirations of the II Vatican Council concerning the theological status and significance of the laity and their involvement in the apostolic mission of God come to fruition in the `movement church' within the Roman Catholic Church of Hungary.
The restoration of the lay status and function, distorted through the centuries in the Roman Catholic Church worldwide, is a crucial and indispensable task of the Roman Catholic Church if she wants to fulfil her prophetic, pastoral and holistic mission. This is indispensable for the Church to become what she really is, the eschatological people of God.
Two revival movements in the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary are studied: the Bokor Movement and the Roman Catholic Charismatic Movement from the perspective of the role of the laity. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Missiology)

Church growth as part of a wholistic missiological approach?Schmidt, Jörg 06 1900 (has links)
Church growth missiology has been severely criticized by
ecumenical, but also by evangelical missiologists. This often led to its rejection as it was
considered incompatible with other missiological approaches. But church growth does deal
effectively with important issues as other missiologies do. In light of Martin Luther's
interpretation of the First Commandment a more general wholistic missiological approach is
requested, which considers the full spectrum of human needs, and under which church growth can
function with other missiologies together. The treatment of the task of missiology and the unity by
attitude of the missiologist contribute to the argument. Therefore four major criticisms
brought forth against church growth are dealt with in order to
evaluate and finally suggest a potential theological compatibility of this approach with other
missiologies. This is further
confirmed by a brief introduction to important elements of the
present status of church growth theory development / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / Th. M. (Missiology)

Mission, the poor and community development : a case study of the ministry of the Methodist Church in Ivory ParkKumalo, Simangaliso Raymond 02 1900 (has links)
In 1994 South Africa celebrated the election of a new democratic government. This came with the abolition of the Group Areas Act 36of1966, which controlled the movement of black people from rural areas to urban areas.
The repealing of this act led to the rapid movement of people from rural areas all over Southern Africa to the cities and towns in search for a better life. In turn this led to rapid urbanization and the growth of informal settlements' also known as squatter camps. These communities are characterized by poverty and lack of basic necessities such as houses,
water and employment.
The church was caught unaware by the need to minister to these communities that need more than the gospel that satisfies spiritual poverty but also the satisfaction of material poverty. This exposed the need for a model of ministry that will be holistic. This study shares a model of ministry that has been used by a Methodist congregation in an
informal settlement community called Ivory Park in Midrand. This church uses a model of ministry that propagates the gospel both through preaching and community development. / Religious Studies & Arabic / M. Th. (Missiology)
