Interdependence, responsibility and partnership : a German perspective on the Northern Local Church in her international context

Schmidt, Jörg 05 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This thesis is an attempt to investigate how local churches (re)define their international orientation in response to the shockwaves of globalisation and their interpretation of the signs of the times. The analysis is guided by the key dimensions of interdependence, responsibility, and partnership. The local church is expected to have reached an increasing awareness of interdependence in her international relationships by the emergence of the postmodern systemic paradigm as never before in the history of the ecumenical movement. Consequently, this results in a sense of responsibility developing directly from a prophetic reading and an interpretation of the signs of the times as well as in a receptivity to be fertilised by international impulses. The local church is perceived by both individual Christians and pastors as direct platform for international responsibility. The wounds of the world, the needy and the suffering are suggested as inviting primary responses of local churches in the North. International church partnerships are investigated as practical attempts to live out interdependent relationships, to translate the sense of responsibility into action, and to receive fertilisation from the partner churches. Qualitative case studies from Reformed, United (Lutheran/Reformed) and Free churches present a status analysis of churches regarding the points under discussion. The tendency is observed that pastors inc~easingly look for ways alternative to the old ecumenical structures, which are characterised by rich/poor and donor/recipient relationships, thus operating their churches with free initiative and association. Studies regularly narrow down topics to interdependence, postmodernism, development, development politics, church development services, international partnerships, ecumenical learning, etc. Often recommendations for action are made based on the one single area of research presented. In this study, however, it is argued that pastors and churches do not derive their decisions and programmes from considerations of one single area, but they consider all these areas together.

Rebeca Soledad Luza Salazar 23 August 2007 (has links)
Living the Grace of God: A permanent Methodist social commitment. Contributions to the identity of Peruvian Methodism. The first part addresses the manifestation of Gods Grace in Wesleyan theology, its core aspects and the way Grace delineates Methodist identity. The second part deals with the question of what characterizes the Methodist identity marked by charitable deeds and works of mercy, and the way these, as means of Grace and external signs, are provided by God for our own and our communitys spiritual formation. Another characteristic that is also addressed in this part is the evangelizing spirit as a response to the mandate given by our Lord Jesus Christ to go out and preach the Gospel to all creatures. The third part addresses the Methodist presence in Peru. From its origins in the Nineteenth Century with the presence of the British and American Biblical Societies, the sending of Colporteur missionaries; the first attempt to establish the Methodist Mission with William Taylor (1877-1887); the second and final attempt to establish the Methodist work with Francisco Penzotti (1888-1889), the work done by Dr. Thomas B. Wood and the organization of the Methodist Mission, his contribution in the legal and educational fields; the work done by the first Peruvian Methodist ministers such as José Q. Illescas, Manuel Noriega and Adolfo T. Vásquez. The organization of the Missionary Work during the 1904-1939 period, the full expansion and development of the organization during the 1940-1969 period. The churchs autonomy in 1970, with the first changes in the structure of the mission up to the holding of the First Constituent Assembly with the election of the first Peruvian bishop, Dr. Wenceslao Bahamonde. The heyday of an autonomous church that learns to walk on its own but not always lives the Grace of God and goes through a crisis of identity and testimony. The last part ends with the Methodist Churchs current contribution to the Peruvian society through educational and charitable work, as well as ecumenical commitment and the challenges that we are forced to face, as Christian church, for the transformation of the Peruvian society. Living the Grace of God is a permanent Methodist social commitment and the Methodist Church of Peru is called and challenged to transform the Peruvian society, to share the Grace that it received with those who live in disgrace, those who are denied the Grace of God on a daily basis. Living and sharing the Grace of God today in Peru is a mission that cannot be put off

Leandro Dentee 14 March 2007 (has links)
The dissertation Fides ex auditu (Romans 10:17) Propaganda first, faith after The internal marketing as instrument of mission in the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brasil (ECLCB) arises from the uneasiness of the daily life of an Ordained Minister. The so called Historical Churches, to which group the ECLCB belongs, are facing great difficulties to keep their members. These difficulties to keep members is the issue of the first chapter. Through two researches taken in the ECLCB, the suspicion of numerical stagnation, even with strong tendency towards lowering numbers, is confirmed. The two researches analyzed point to the same, although one presents the question in a national view and the other brings numbers of a small town in the open country of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The search for help comes to the field of marketing. While taking out prejudices, we seek to draw nearer to this field of human knowledge. Yet, before we begin the dialog, it is necessary to respect the organizational culture of the institution to which marketing action might become useful. The second chapter presents, therefore, the pillars of the Lutheran Theology. It is on these pillars that the way of being of the ECLCB is laid upon. Thinking on adult congregations, internal marketing actions arise as the more efficient actions at the moment. The third chapter presents the theme of marketing, looking specially to internal marketing. Seeking to analyze the internal communication in the ECLCB, theme that the internal marketing reflects, it was collected information with various leaders of this church. What this data collection revealed is presented, along with its explanation and analysis, in the forth chapter. Church and marketing is a challenge! In a well directed dialog, with the help offered by the marketing, the Church can become more efficient in its way to communicate what is most precious: the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

[en] THE TENSION ALREADY AND NOT YET IN OSCAR CULLMANN: POSSIBILITIES AND IMPLICATIONS TO THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH / [pt] A TENSÃO JÁ E AINDA NÃO EM OSCAR CULLMANN: POSSIBILIDADES E IMPLICAÇÕES PARA A MISSÃO DA IGREJA

LAERTE TARDELI HELLWIG VOSS 24 July 2018 (has links)
[en] The tension already and not yet in Oscar Cullmann - possibilities and implications to the mission of the Church – is a research that proposes a dialogue between the Eschatology and the Missiology, in which the main goal is to analyze the classic paradox in theology known as the already and the not yet of the Kingdom of God. The essay starts by exploring the question about the temporal nature of the hope that God s people have nurtured. It begins in the Scripture, passes through different epochs in the record of the Church up to the state of the issue in our days, perceiving how the people s expectation for the fulfillment of God s promises has alternated throughout history. Sometimes it displayed a more futuristic and celestial emphasis. In another period, it pointed to a more present-day and worldly orientation. The research discovers then, in Oscar Cullmann, a significant proposal to solve the dilemma of any eventual polarization. Cullmann, from his exegetical work in the New Testament, see how God s Kingdom and its promises have a double timing application: an aspect already inaugurated by the person and work of Jesus Christ, already present among us, and another not yet consumed, which is still awaited in the future, in the breakthrough of the parousia. Afterwards, this dissertation will show how Cullmann s thesis was received and reverberated across the thought of various theologians. And lastly, this reflection will focus in the dissertation subtitle, which seeks to address how the tension already and not yet informs the missional message and affects the missional attitude of the Church.

For this, we will analyze the documentation produced by the Regional churches in search of the justifications used for their recovery, and their real interests, linked, as we assume, the pursuit of conquest / maintenance of Catholic religious hegemony in the society of Eastern Northeast Brazil. Hegemony is undermined in successive decades of the Catholic aggiornamento implemented after the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), both for ad intra processes such as disorientation and loss of landmarks due to changes in the Catholic imagination, and for ad extra, as a result of secularization, migration, urbanization within states and penetration, more aggressive, churches and religious movements competing with the proposed Catholic.

The nature of the church in some post-christendom models and according to some authors in the New Testament : a comparative study with missiological implications

Weyers, Mario, 1973- 04 1900 (has links)
In this thesis the researcher has investigated which of the two concepts: believing before belonging or belonging before believing, is a more accountable perspective in regards to ministry in post-Christendom society. With the final stages of the modern period the power of hegemonic ideologies is coming to an end as people identify less with grand ideologies and more with subcultures related to technology and social and economic networks of different kinds. The post-Christendom phase has begun and is radically challenging Christendom notions of ministry. We have to assume that among post-Christians the familiarity with Christian concepts will fade as the decline of Christendom has meant that Christianity has been losing its status as a lingua franca, only to be understood in the long run, by those who are professing Christians. It is therefore important that the church will anticipate longer journeys towards faith and not move on to disciple new converts too quickly. Post- Christendom evangelization will consequently take longer, start further back and move more slowly. In the context of post-Christendom, knowledge of Christianity is rather limited and people need to come to an understanding of what Christianity entails. For those seekers, exploratory participation at first is safer than making a definite commitment. Postmodern society is also suspicious of institutions and eager to find whether Christian beliefs also work in practice and not only in theory. Therefore is belonging before believing very much necessary for seekers to test whether Christians live out in their communities what they claim to be true? / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. / The thesis of my research is to articulate the crucial role of Christianity in the development of Hong Kong society through the reinterpretation of the history of Hong Kong Christianity in the ecumenical perspective. / Hong Kong church is an impetus for the sustainable development of Hong Kong society. The guiding principles of the ecumenical theology are one of the facilitators for the church to react with the political, economic and social development of Hong Kong. In my research, I will scrutinize the special ecumenical way of thinking. From that knowledge and sense of right and wrong, the church accelerated a lot of critical and significant decisions all the way through the history of Hong Kong. Prominently, it is a brand new perspective to study the role of church in Hong Kong history. There is no other work had been done on the history of Hong Kong Christianity in the ecumenical perspective. I aspire that we could gain a lot of new knowledge and ideas from this ecumenical perspective. / My research will examine the history of Hong Kong in the eighties in particular. Hong Kong went through drastic changes in the period. Politically, we faced the issue of sovereignty handover. Economically, we met the gigantic development in the property and stock market. Socially, we encountered extreme disparity between the rich and the poor. We are in the kairos (decisive moment of our time) of the history. The Hong Kong Christian Council had launched series of seminars and conferences throughout the eighties. The most influential conference is the mission consultation conference of the church in Hong Kong in the eighties. My research will examine this conference deeply and analyze the relationship between the church and the development of Hong Kong. I endeavor to give the reader a point of view of this rich and condense Hong Kong history in the eighties. / Nowadays, Hong Kong is in the very moment after the return to China. We are still searching for Hong Kong identity. We are still struggling for the better and more suitable way of living politically, economically and socially. Our history is our power. = ,,Der runde Tisch Österreich" - a mission strategically efficient model for unity among Christians?

Wieland, Andreas 30 November 2005 (has links)
There is a great diversity of initiatives furthering unity among christians. Probably the most important ones are those of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Roman Catholic Church as such and the Lausanne Movement of the Evangelicals. The "Runde Tisch" (=Round Table) brings together Austrian christians from all parts of the christian scenario as a new initiative towards unity. To find out, which of these initiatives is the most efficient, from a mission-strategical standpoint, this thesis develops the New Testament findings on the question of unity. Then, the 4 models are presented to finally be compared, to find out, where each one has its strengths and weaknesses. The Round Table Austria with its great width of christians involved, its theological profoundness and its leadership structure with proportional engagement of members from all present parts of the christian body is indeed quite close to the New Testament picture of unity. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M.
