Developing strategies to facilitate the motivation of nurses rendering quality patient care in rural hospitals : an appreciative inquiry approach

Luhalima, T.R. January 2014 (has links)
Background and objectives: The purpose of the study was to develop strategies to facilitate nurses’ motivation for rendering quality patient care in a rural hospital using an Appreciative Inquiry approach. The objectives of the study were to determine the positive aspects that the nurses value about the work environment, the nursing profession and their organisation and to develop strategies to facilitate nurses’ motivation to render quality patient care in rural hospitals. The strategies that were developed may be used to motivate nurses in rural hospitals or be used by nurse managers and supervisors in similar poorly resourced rural hospitals in developing countries. Methods: An Appreciative Inquiry approach with a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive research design was used. Data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Twenty participants were interviewed. The researcher employed Marshall and Rossman’s model and that of Tesch to analyse the data. The principles of Guba and Lincoln were used to ensure the trustworthiness; credibility; transferability, dependability, conformability and authenticity of the findings. Results: The findings revealed that factors that motivated nurses were effective feedback about their performance and for them to be involved in decision making. Conclusions: The strategies to facilitate motivation of nurses were intended for use by all managers in rural hospitals. They would also be useful to motivate nurses in similar poorly resourced rural hospitals in developing countries. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / lk2014 / Nursing Science / PhD / Unrestricted

An investigation of employee motivation at Botswana railways / John Latolang

Latolang, John January 2011 (has links)
Botswana Railways has been facing low employee motivation and productivity for some time. Companies such as Air Botswana which had been experiencing similar issues decided to privatise to increase its efficiency and, as a result, turned things around. Hence, using both quantitative and qualitative investigation at the Headquarters of the Botswana Railways, this study sought to determine the extent of employee motivation and how to enhance it in order to increase employee productivity. The study revealed that employees' main grievances included poor remuneration and lack of opportunities for growth and promotion. It is recommended that Botswana Railways implements policies and strategies which could uplift employees' morale to increase employee productivity and company output. / Thesis (MBA) North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, 2011

Communication Strategies to Motivate Virtual Team Members in the Banking Industry

Wade, Kristina Nicole 01 January 2019 (has links)
Frontline managers in the banking industry support geographically dispersed employees and face significant obstacles in communicating effectively to motivate their virtual team members. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore communication strategies frontline managers in the banking industry used to motivate virtual team members. Vroom's expectancy theory was the conceptual framework for the study. Participants consisted of 5 frontline banking managers in Michigan who had successfully implemented communication strategies to motivate virtual team members. Data were collected using face-to-face semistructured interviews, a review of company documents, and a review of company websites. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis following Yin's 5-step process of compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting, and concluding the data. The 3 emergent themes were a clarification strategy, a technology strategy, and a motivation strategy. Frontline banking managers leading virtual teams might use the findings from this study to improve the clarity of their communications with team members, make effective use of technology in their communication strategy, motivate team members through consistent messaging, and offer adequate rewards and facilitating peer competition among team members. The implications of this study for positive social change include the potential for frontline banking managers to improve job satisfaction and motivation among virtual team members, resulting in higher employment rates, improved local economic stability, and enhanced rapport and volunteerism within their local communities.

Arbetsmotivation-motivationsfaktorer, self-efficacy och motivationsstrategier inom arbetslivet. / Motivational factors, self-efficacy and motivation strategies in the workplace

Johansson, Pia, Werner, Malou January 2013 (has links)
This research had two objectives. First, to investigate the level of the motivational factors in the workplace and the possible relationships between the motivational factors. The questionnaire was based on questions from QPSNordic, Locke and Latham's (1990) questionnaire and occupational self-efficacy scale (OSES). Total of one hundred workers (n=100) participated in the survey. Second, to examine the strategies managers used to motivate their employees. In this context, employee’s perception of the strategies used by the managers was also investigated. Two structured questionnaire with open ended questions were created, one for the managers and one for the employees. The results from the survey study shows that almost all motivating factors lay on a medium level, except the motivating factor feedback and the part factor external reward lies on a low level in the investigated workplace. The result shows several significant correlations between the motivational factors. From the structured questionnaire the result shows that all managers are motivating their employee´s and the managers have both equal and different motivating strategies in their workplace. The results showed that few employees experienced manager’s motivation strategies, in order to facilitate more any perceived motivational strategies from managers to employee´s; the assumption is this can be corrected by increasing the manager's presence.

The general public’s process of giving to charity : What do non-profit actors have to consider in order to raise funds?

Larsson, Anneli, Winther, Maria January 2012 (has links)
Background: Competition in the market for non-profit actors has increased significantly. More channels to reach potential donors have been designed, and ways to help has been extended. The industry is scrutinized with critical eyes because of the scandals that have emerged in recent years. It has contributed to making it possible to distinguish a negative trend regarding public trust in the sector. The market has therefore changed and the conditions for obtaining donations are different. Aim: The purpose of this thesis is to create a better understanding of how non-profit actors motivate individuals to donate money to their business. An additional purpose is to analyze what non-profit actors have to consider, in a competitive market, in order to influence individuals’ donor process. Method: The study is qualitative in nature, where interviews were conducted with seven non-profit actors in Sweden. When using this method, a deeper understanding is created for the phenomenon we want to highlight. Conclusions: Non–profit actors use motivations strategies to a large extent for obtaining donations from individuals. Because of today’s competitive market, there are several factors non–profit actors need to consider in order to retaining their position and to grow. They must relate to elements such as the external environment, internal environment and their stakeholders. Stakeholders require trust and transparency, where problems of information overload and cost may be incurred.

We want you to be with us in the long term: A case study of low employee turnover, motivation strategies and employee motivation at Clas Ohlson.

Håkansson, Linn, Rydberg, Lisa January 2018 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate if Clas Ohlson employee turnover can be a result of the company's motivation strategies and the employee motivation. Research questions: Does the organization see both advantages and disadvantages with their low turnover? What strategies does the organization and management have regarding employee motivation? Does the employees experience motivation based on these strategies? Method: Through a case study on Clas Ohlson we did a triangulation using a HR-partner, three store managers and employees. Through qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys, the collected empirical material was analyzed qualitatively. The study was conducted through a hermeneutic and deductive approach. The theoretical reference framework is based on models and theories as well as scientific articles and literature. Conclusions: The study show that most of the participators of employees of Clas Ohlson do feel motivated at work and their workplace. If the company low turnover is a result of the company's motivation strategies is not shown clearly in the study. However, the study does show that the employees do feel motivated to stay in the company and the majority see themselves work at Clas Ohlson in the future.

Motivationens betydelse för utvecklandet avett främmande språk

Oehme, Johan January 2017 (has links)
This study aims to seek answers to what type of motivation strategies serve the development of foreign language learning in an effective way. Motivation is a complex concept and therefore there are no absolute answers to what kind of strategies are preferable, but there are plenty of recommendations and research about motivation. One of the main issues in foreign language learning is students lack of self-confidence, which often leads to motivational issues and loss of interest. In today`s globalized society, knowing a foreign language can lead to new opportunities, both in social and professional life. The teacher has a crucial role in finding ways to reach out to each student and finding a motivational strategy suited for every individual. On the other hand, applying strategies such as for example an ”open class environment”, is more adequate when teaching multiple students at the same occasion. It is important to understand the combined use of different types of motivational strategies, depending on the circumstances, is one of the corner stones in improving the students results.

Övningsmotivation : En kvalitativ studie om hur fem musiklärare på gymnasiet uppfattar sina elevers övningsmotivation i individuella instrument- och sånglektioner / Practice motivation : A qualitative study of how five secondary school music teachers perceive their students' motivation to practice in individual instrument and singing lessons

Frode, Cim January 2023 (has links)
I denna pyramid sattes motivationsskapande värdeord in som valdes utifrån informanternas motivationsstrategier. / This study focuses primarily on gaining an understanding of how secondary school music teachers experience their students' motivation to practice in individual instrument and vocal lessons. Secondly, it focuses on highlighting the motivational tools music teachers use to promote practice between individual instrument and vocal lessons. The study was prompted by a problem identified during the pre-service training, namely that students tended not to practice between their lessons. Hermeneutics was chosen as the theoretical framework because the study focused on teachers' understandings, perceptions and experiences of their students' motivation. It was conducted through five semi-structured qualitative interviews with music teachers, all of whom played different main instruments. The analysis process allowed the perceptions of the music teachers to be made visible and interpreted against previous research. The music teachers felt that motivation to practice has declined over the past ten to fifteen years and that their current students practice less than their previous students did. The informants linked the negative trend to various aspects such as social media and how these digital tools can negatively affect students' short-term thinking. Based on the findings of the study, a model in the form of a motivation pyramid was created. In this pyramid, motivational value words were inserted that were chosen based on the informants' motivational strategies. The model can be used by educators to create a more inclusive and motivated learning environment for their students. The discussion section of the study discusses the role of music teachers in student motivation, the didactic implications of the study, and suggestions for further research.
