The amount of complex data (images, videos, time series and others) has been growing at a very fast pace. Complex data are well-suited to be searched by similarity, which means to define queries according to a given similarity criterion. Moreover, complex data are usually associated with other information, usually of conventional data types, which must be employed in conjunction with similarity operations to answer complex queries. Several works proposed techniques for similarity searching, however, the majority of the approaches was not conceived to be integrated into a DBMS, treating similarity queries as isolated operations detached from the query processor. The main objective of this thesis is to propose algebraic alternatives, data structures and algorithms to allow a wide use of similarity queries associated to the search operations provided by the relational DBMSs and to execute such composite queries eficiently. To reach this goal, this work presents two main contributions. The first contribution is the proposal of a new similarity operation, called condition-extended k-Nearest Neighbor query (ck-\'NN IND. q\'), that extends the k-Nearest Neighbor query (k-\'NN IND. q\') to provide an additional conditio modifying the operation semantics. The proposed operation allows representing queries required by several applications, which were not able to be represented before, and allows to homogeneously integrate complementary filtering conditions to the k-\'NN IND. q\'. The second contribution is the development of the FMI-SiR(user-defined Features, Metrics and Indexes for Similarity Retrieval), which is a database module that allows executing similarity queries integrated to the DBMS operations. The module allows including user-defined feature extraction methods and distance functions into the database core, providing great exibility, and also has a special treatment for medical images. Moreover, it was verified through experiments over real datasets that the implementation of FMI-SiR over the Oracle DBMS is able to eficiently search very large complex databases

ENTER THE LABYRINTH: A VR PROCEDURAL PSYCHOLOGICAL NIGHTMAREUnknown Date (has links)
This thesis explores the history of virtual reality and how the medium can help make psychological horror adventure games become a more immersive experience. Project Labyrinth takes inspiration from psychological horror adventure games, Greek mythology, and experimental music to immerse the player in a VR dream/nightmare.
Appealing to the senses of sight and sound, the moody visual effects and haunting music, along with the use of procedural generation, create an eerie atmosphere in which the player must explore and problem-solve in order to find their way through the labyrinthine game. The environment changes and evolves as the game is replayed, creating a dream or nightmare-like setting, stirring the sensation of déjà vu. The game was developed in VR using the Oculus Quest, a device that allows the player to freely move about without being tethered to a computer. The Quest’s ability to use hand, body, and room tracking significantly improves an already immersive experience. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.F.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2020. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Open IMS Core a IP Multimedia Subsystem / The Open IMS Core and the IP Multimedia SubsystemBožek, Martin January 2011 (has links)
This thesis describes architecture of IMS and shows possibilities of IMS platform testing. Theoretical part describes layer model of the IMS as a whole and then describes it’s individual layers. Next chapters analyse key entities of the IMS, interconnection between reference points and features of protocols used in the IMS. Practical part deals with the introduction of Open IMS Core, which was chosen for the IMS technology testing. Settings necessary to carry out testing and interconnection between PBX Asterisk are shown in next chapters. After introduction of IMS desktop clients is carried out an instant messaging communication within the IMS network. The communication is captured and analysed by Wireshark application. Afterwards there is described how SIP protocol sends messages within the IMS. After a brief introduction to the PBX Asterisk, there are discussed assumptions for the interconnection between Asterisk and IMS. There are also described necessary settings needed for implementation and communication testing itself. The first test is an audio session carried out between the desktop IMS client and IP phone registered to the PBX Asterisk. Communication is captured for the analysis of preparation, conduction and termination of the session. After the successful realization of the audio call, video session has been made. The session was analysed in detail, including statistics of control signals and transmitted packets. There are two laboratory excercises in attachement of this thesis, which will help students to understand the IMS technology and communication options within the IMS network

Inhaltsbasierte Erschließung und Suche in multimedialen ObjektenSack, Harald, Waitelonis, Jörg 25 January 2012 (has links)

Metody multi-modální datové explorace / Methods of Multi-Modal Data ExplorationGrošup, Tomáš January 2019 (has links)
Digitalization throughout the industry leads to rapidly increasing amounts of data captured and stored which brings forth challenges for indexing and ac- cessing large digital repositories. Very often, the data takes form of complex multi-part entities, such as images with relational attributes, photos with ge- ographical coordinates or textual posts with multimedia content and implicit social relationships. The complexity of such entities and lack of fixed struc- ture makes it impossible to use classical information retrieval methods based on attribute filtering, ranking or grouping, as it is not easy or sometimes even possible to define an exact query. In this thesis, we target data exploration as an act of exploring an unfamiliar area via a series of intuitive, effective and efficient system-supported steps. We present methodologies, demo applications and evaluation results targeting different data sources of multimedia data. Fur- thermore, we focus on the ability to utilize multiple modalities within a single session and on integrating the results into widely used software solutions.
