Mysterium Cosmographicum is a musical chronicle of an astronomy treatise by the German astronomer Johannes Kepler (1571-1630). Kepler's Mysterium cosmographicum (Tubingen, 1596), or "Secret of the Universe," was a means by which he justified the existence of the six planets discovered during his lifetime. Kepler, through flawless a priori reasoning, goes to great lengths to explain that the reason there are six and only six planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) is because God had placed one of the five regular solids (tetrahedron, cube, octa-, dodeca-, and icosahedron) around each orbiting body. Needless to say, the publication was not very successful, nor did it gain much comment from Kepler's peers, Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) and Tycho Brahe (1546-1601). But hidden within the Mysterium cosmographicum. almost like a new planet waiting to be discovered, is one of Kepler's three laws of planetary motion, a law that held true for planets discovered long after Kepler's life-time.
Mysterium Cosmographicum is a monologue with music in three parts for orchestra, narrator/actor, and computer music on tape. All musical data structures ape generated via an interactive Pascal computer program that computes latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates For each of the nine planets as seen From a Fixed point on Earth For any given time Frame. These coordinates are then mapped onto selected musical parameters as determined by the composer.
Whenever Kepler reads From his treatise or From a lecture or correspondence, the monologue is supported by orchestral planetary data generated From the exact place, date, and time oF the treatise, lecture, or correspondence. To the best oF my knowledge, Mysterium Cosmographicum is the First composition ever written that employs planetary data as a supporting chronology to action and monologue.

The main aim of this work is to describe the history and development of Czech Television's regional news coverage in years from 1992 till 2012, using the testimonies of direct TV staff involved in this reporting beyond the available resources, thereby expanding the amount of information on this issue. To achieve this information, the oral history method was used and the subsequent verification of the information obtained was done using the literature, diploma theses, annual reports and other sources in this work specified. The result of this work is the extension and addition of new facts and information about the history of Czech Television's regional news, especially of internal character, not yet obtainable from available professional publications or public reports and data. These include information on the nature of interpersonal relations in regional news, the attempt to influence the outward processing and thematic focus of the editorial offices and the specific technical and structural development of individual regional editorial offices. Die doel van hierdie verhandeling is om die volgende navorsingsvrae te beantwoord: Is daar wel speurverhale wat as literêre speurverhale gekategoriseer kan word? Indien nie, waarom word die kodes van die speurverhaal as narratiewe strategie gekies vir sekere romans? Wat is die verskille en ooreenkomste tussen die tradisionele speurverhaal en die sogenaamde literêre speurverhaal? If not, why is the detective element chosen as a narrative strategy for some novels? The most frequent - but not the only - way of telling Josef Škvorecký's prose is with the first grammatical person of the singular from the point of view of a male figure, for example that of one of Danny Smiřický. But female characters also play an important role in the story. The aim of this thesis is to study the way in which female figures are shaped in some Škvorecký's prose works. Therefore, we want to study the order in which we learn information about them, what passages are devoted to their characteristics or what other data in the text is associated with them. We rely on the literature on the theory of the character (e. g. Hausenblas and Macurová) and on literature about the author (e. g. Kosková, Trenský, Solecki). v anglickém jazyce The subject of this diploma thesis is the work of the francophone writer Patrick Chamoiseau. The thesis reflects especially the theme of slavery in short stories and fairy tales of this Martinique author. The diploma thesis puts Patrick Chamoiseau's work in a historical and political context as well as the personal life of the writer. The diploma thesis describes geographic and cultural particularities of the Lesser Antilles and analyzes in more detail the story The Slave Old Man and the Giant Dog and selected fairy tales. Based on this analysis, the thesis describes typical themes and language tools used by Patrick Chamoiseau. The thesis also deals with oral literature and culture of Martinique and the current problems of society are also discussed through a reflection of another work by Patrick Chamoiseuau.

This study deals with aspects of the everyday social reality of the forced community in the Terezin ghetto in 1941-1945. It is a microsociological introspection of the life of the prisoners that lived in the ghetto. It aims to define social factors that influenced the lives of people that were stigmatized, fought for their lives and lived in border-line situations. The research part of the study uses biographical method. It uses 10 recorded testimonials of survivors - former Terezin prisoners. The research was carried out by means of partly structured interviews. The questions dealt with internal and external factors that created the daily reality of this forced community. The aim was to map their subjective perception of life conditions, social ties, both negative and positive factors and further personal utterances of the narrators. The testimonies serve for better and deeper understanding of the Terezin reality. The factors that affected the community in a negative way included fear of the unknown, fear of loosing close friends and relatives, very bad life conditions that strongly affected the negative mind-set of people and loss of moral values. In contrast, the positive factors included culture and sports that were welcomed by the prisoners as they allowed them to shift aside gloomy thoughts....

Il s'agit de la version du mémoire telle qu'elle a été acceptée par les membres du jury d'évaluation. / Cultiver le doute est l’idée centrale autour de laquelle s’articulent tous les éléments de ce projet de recherche création, où j’ai voulu approfondir et mettre en œuvre différents procédés susceptibles de produire une narration empreinte d’incertitude qui laisse libre cours à une variété d’interprétations. Le volet essai, Les contradictions polyphoniques de narrateurs non fiables dans « Asiles de fous » de Régis Jauffret, se concentre sur ce roman représentatif d’une certaine littérature française contemporaine dite « déconcertante ». Asiles de fous constitue un objet d’étude particulièrement intéressant pour aborder la problématique d’un espace interprétatif en tension. La dissonance des voix inhérente à sa forme polyphonique ainsi que la « non-fiabilité » de chacun de ses quatre narrateurs complexifient la lecture, au point où il est littéralement impossible de trouver ancrage dans ce récit hypothétique où tout semble orchestré pour dérouter le lecteur. Fractures multiples, second volet de ce mémoire, est un roman porté par sept voix qui explore l’insoutenable complexité de l’être. Il retrace différentes périodes de l’existence de Jean-Philippe Dumoulin en disséquant ses liens affectifs troubles et ambigus avec sa famille, ses amours et ses amis. Jadis enfant modèle aspirant à une carrière de violoniste de concert, Jean-Philippe adulte s’est plutôt fait connaître comme une sorte de vagabond libertin, tristement célèbre pour ses variations de tempérament et ses épisodes dépressifs fulgurants. Maintenant quadragénaire, il s’est retranché dans une existence quasi ascétique, tout absorbé par ses études doctorales en philosophie psychopathologique. Une rencontre fortuite sera le catalyseur d’une réaction en chaîne qui va l’inciter à renouer des liens jadis significatifs qu’il avait choisi de rompre dans l’espoir de s’extraire de l’enclos de ses conflits psychiques. My intent was to deepen and experiment with literary principles likely to produce a narrative filled with uncertainty that gives free rein to a variety of interpretations. The theorical part of this project, Les contradictions polyphoniques de narrateurs non fiables dans “Asiles de fous” de Régis Jauffret, is an essay focusing on the novel Asiles de fous by Régis Jauffret, which can be seen as emblematic of a type of modern French literature dubbed “disconcerting”. Asiles de fous constitutes a particularly interesting object of study to approach the problem of an interpretative space in tension. The dissonance of the voices inherent in its polyphonic form, as well as the “unreliability” of each of its four narrators, complicate the reading process to the point where it is impossible to find an anchor in this hypothetical story where everything seems orchestrated to confuse the reader. Fractures multiples, the creative part of this project, is a novel steered by seven voices that explore the unbearable complexity of being. It recollects various phases in the life of Jean-Philippe Dumoulin by dissecting his troubled and ambiguous emotional ties with his family, his lovers, and his friends. Formerly a model child aspiring to a career as a concert violinist, Jean-Philippe grew up to become a promiscuous freeloader of sorts, infamous for his mood swings and dramatic bouts of depression. Now in his forties, he lives almost secluded, entirely devoted to his doctoral studies in philosophical psychopathology. A chance encounter will be the catalyst for a chain reaction that will spur him to rebuild once significant bonds he had chosen to sever in the hope of extricating himself from the enclosure of his psychic conflicts. In the same way that a quilt is made of fabrics carefully chosen to represent different periods of one’s life, the storyline of Fractures multiples is a collection of 37 short stories which give each character its own poetic imagery and undertone. Much of the action is conveyed through dialogues informed by notions of linguistic polyphony, where divergent voices express themselves, confront or echo each other, and interlock. The result is a game of perceptions driven by an ever-fleeting quest for truth, showing how everybody tends to adjust one’s focus to reflect a reality that comforts one’s views.

The thesis introduces the Mahābhārata as a complex literary text - a multi-genre text and a polyphonic interpretation of a factual discourse with several competing narratives - and uses the findings and techniques of narratology, especially of rhetorical narratology, to interpret it. In the thesis, I argue that when analysing the seeming inconsistencies of this text, it is not necessary to look for the explanation on the "outside" (various unconnected authors) but that it is possible to explain them also from the "inside" of the text, using the differences in genres, as well as the knowledge, goals and subjectivity of the individual characters and narrators. These resources are often used in the communication with the audience (readers/listeners). The concrete material for this argument is the story of Ambā, Śikhaṇḍinī a Śikhaṇḍin and the way in which are the facts concerning this triune character presented, especially by Bhīṣma who claims their narrative most importantly by narrating Ambopākhyāna, an analeptic episode explaining Śikhaṇḍin's life story and his involvement in the Kurukṣetra battle: narration with a distinctive authoritativeness and subjectivity, but a doubtable narratorial reliability. I show how Bhīṣma defines Śikhaṇḍin as a woman using this episode, and thus makes him into one of...
