Novel Techniques in Chemical Ecology to Examine Life Histories in FishesTzadik, Orian 29 March 2016 (has links)
Diet and movements in fishes are often logistically challenging to study. Trace element and stable isotope analyses have advanced these fields considerably, but are still constrained by methodological impediments, such as the tendency towards lethal sampling. Studying endangered fishes is particularly challenging as representative samples are difficult to obtain. However, the information gained from such studies is often critical to the recovery of endangered fishes as knowledge of life history attributes has the potential to greatly influence the success of management strategies.
I tested the viability of using fin rays in fishes as a non-lethal approach to study diet and movement patterns over time. I then applied the methods I developed to study the life history of the critically endangered Goliath Grouper, Epinephelus itajara. Fin ray analyses have traditionally been used in age and growth studies, as well as in a limited number of projects that study the chemical constituents of the ray itself. Therefore, I first tested whether fin rays could be used as chronological recorders of chemical properties over time using a pseudo-experimental design. By using samples from various aquaria, I had documentation of the time of capture of every animal used. Based on the assumption that the otolith in fishes represents a conserved, chronological matrix, I compared trace element concentrations between the otolith and the fin ray of each individual. In addition I tested whether stable isotope values of δ13C and δ15N differed between the wild and captive life phases of each individual. Divalent ions and positively-charged transition metals (e.g., Fe, Co) in particular showed strong associations between the two structures, suggesting conservation of material. Stable isotope values of δ13C and δ15N differed between the wild and captive life phases in most of the fishes sampled, also suggestive of conserved matrices.
I then tested and modeled the differences in δ15N values over time between the populations of Goliath Groupers on the west and east coasts of Florida. In general, individuals on the west coast had lower overall values and a larger difference between juvenile and adult values. The mechanism that caused the differences between coastal populations may have been an artifact of the environment, rather than different feeding behaviors.
Last, I investigated different nursery habitats for Goliath Groupers in southwestern Florida. I characterized juvenile nurseries based on the chemical fingerprints of trace elements within the inorganic matrix of the fin rays. Groupings based on these fingerprints were surprisingly accurate and can be used to identify essential nursery habitat for the species in years to come.
This research demonstrated the efficacy of novel techniques that were used to gather information on the life history of a critically endangered fish in the state of Florida. The results can be used to influence management strategies in the future, particularly with regard to nursery habitat use.

”We have a boy who knows the whole rainbow, so it would be fun if they could continue to work with that.” : A qualitative study about how teachers in class of preschool and preschool teachers are collaborating with each other’s during children’s transitions.Lundmark, Maria, Söderström, Fanny January 2017 (has links)

Impacts des marées vertes sur les habitats essentiels au renouvellement des ressources halieutiques des secteurs estuariens et côtiers / Impacts of green tides on habitats essential for the renewal of fisheries resources in coastal and estuarine systemsLe luherne, Emilie 05 July 2016 (has links)
Les conséquences des marées vertes sur l’ichtyofaune sont modul / Coastal and estuarine systems are highly productive areas that provide unique biological and ecological services and shelter essential habitats to numerous fisheries resources. Among the perturbations experienced by these ecosystems, proliferations of opportunistic macroalgae, commonly known as ‘green tides’, are one of the most obvious signs of eutrophication in coastal and estuarine areas, worldwide, and in Northwestern France in particular. The processes underlying macroalgal proliferations are almost identified whereas their ecological consequences - especially for ichthyofauna - remain poorly understood and understudied. The objective of this thesis is to characterise the effects of green tides on the role of coastal and estuarine habitats for ichthyofauna, on both the community and the individual scales.First, we investigated the consequences of green tides on ichthyofauna on the community scale. Then, we examined the processes which affect the ichthyofauna during green tides, on the individual scale. Marine juvenile fish responses were investigated based on habitat selection and comparison of individual performances between a control and an impacted site. Based on these two complementary approaches, we evidence ecological significant negative effects of green tides on the quality of essential fish habitats. The effects of green tides on ichthyofauna are modulated by the intensity and nature of macroalgal blooms, and are related to the fish habitat use and ecology. A decreasing gradient of sensibility to green tides is emphasised, from benthic to demersal and pelagi

Mateřská školka, Uničov / Kindergarten, UničovOndráček, Tomáš January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the design of the kindergarten in Uničov. The object is designed as a two-storey, non-cellar basement. Because of the almost perfectly flat terrain and purpose of the building, the basement would be unnecessary. The gentle slope which the selected plot shows is oriented to the southeast side. The main entrance to the house is solved from the western side, along the direction of the main entrance to the nursery. It is adjacent to the existing communication with the parking lot towards the Nemocniční housing estate. There are two separate children's wards at the 1st floor, always equipped with a spacious playroom, dressing rooms and a washroom. Furthermore, in the 1st floor there is a large part of the economic zone consisting of a kitchen and related space, a junior flat and a cookery facility. The 2nd floor is reserved for the all-round development of children, both directly attending kindergarten and outside of the interest groups. Therefore, there are spaces such as a language classroom, a workshop room and a hall for other external staff. In addition, there is also a facility for staff and external staff in the form of a meeting room. The east side of the 2nd floor is then reserved for the third children's ward, the backrest consisting of a playroom, dressing rooms, washrooms along with a toilet and, moreover, a lounger. The vertical supporting structures are designed from porous concrete blocks, reinforced concrete and pillar blocks. The ceiling in each level is designed as a reinforced concrete reinforced concrete slab. The building is roofed with a flat single-roofed roof with a slope of 2 %.
