Mid-market and high-end market organizations request for a business management system of high quality that satisfies the enterprise needs, has a convenient user interface, and allows to gain information in usable form promptly and with expedition. Every mid-market enterprise faces changes daily. Although the changes witness success, they can weaken efficiency and critical situation control. Therefore it’s important that the enterprise’s business management tools would help working in volatile business world. In the study a comparative analysis of business management systems was carried out and Navision Attain package was chosen. It is distinguished for wide range of functional capabilities and flexibility conforming to the particular enterprise requirements. In this study the potential of Navision system is analysed, the system’s functionality is presented. The implementation process is executed using a well-tried and certified methodology of information systems implementation – Navision Implementation Methodology TM. Enterprise process analysis was performed, functional requirements for the information system were identified, and solutions to these requirements were presented. This piece of work is dedicated to the use of formal methods in designing ERP systems in MSBS Navision environment capabilities research. Theoretical principles of formal and informal specifications and implementation peculiarities are analyzed re various specifications. UML and Z specification languages were chosen for comparison. Also MSBS Navision C/SIDE ERP system design environment is analyzed. A part of “Fixed assets” domain functionality is specified in different languages. Their clarity, precision, and implementation are compared. Formal methods (same as informal ones) have their advantages and disadvantages. UML specification is fundamentally based on graphic representation. It’s clearer, more readable, but its compatibility can’t be unambiguously verified. Z specification language has a mathematical basis. The compatibility of Z specification can be precisely verified. However, Z specification is difficult to read and learn. It’s impossible to validate the specification unambiguously neither using UML, nor Z. UML language is highly applicable for specification and design of ERP systems, because you can specify object-oriented system models using this language, and C/AL programming language is partially object-oriented. Z language specification is only useful for describing particular, sophisticated parts of the system. Z language can also be used for detailing UML specifications.

För företagen innebär affärssystem att verksamheten ofta måste anpassa sig till systemet istället för tvärtom som med skräddarsydda system.</p><p>Användbarhet handlar om hur användbart användare upplever att ett system är. Det finns flera olika definitioner på användbarhet, som fokuserar på olika saker. Det gemensamma för de olika användbarhetsperspektiven är att de fokuserar på den enskilde användarens interaktion med systemet. Handlingsbarhet är däremot ett nytt perspektiv på IT-system, framtaget av Stefan Cronholm och Göran Goldkuhl vid Linköpings universitet. Handlingsbarhet lägger tyngdpunkten på den kommunikativa avsikten hos handlingar såväl inom som utanför systemet.</p><p>Vi har utfört intervjuer och observationer av MBS Navision i drift på HTC Sweden AB, ett medelstort tillverkande företag. Vår empiri har vi sedan analyserat för att komma fram till hur MBS Navision är handlingsbart och användbart i HTC:s verksamhetskontext. Vi vill därmed beskriva hur handlingsbarhet och användbarhet kompletterar varandra i samma verksamhetskontext.</p><p>Vår slutsats är att både handlingsbarhet och användbarhet är fruktbara för att utvärdera system. Handlingsbarhet bidrar till att utvärderingen fokuserar mer på processer och kommunikations-handlingar, medan användbarhetsperspektivet ger en bild av hur de enskilda användarna upplever IT-systemet.</p>

This work investigates the problem of company not able to handle it’s data analysis using Navision Attain tools alone. A more powerful system is needed, and Microsoft SQL Server OLAP tools are selected as such. The work carried out covers data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) for analyzing Navision Attain data using OLAP data analysis tools. Different integration architectures, as well as needed transformations and most often encountered problems are covered, together with possible solutions to them.. After completing business process analysis, and identifying user roles and required data, four different data cube were created on data from Navision Attain. Namely cubes for sales analysis, purchase analysis, item inventory tracking and customer debt analysis. In addition, an example schedules for cube updating are created, and wider usage guidelines are provided. The complete system is then optimised to provide efficient performance and low main system load. The optimisation results are compiled into generic suggestions for further analysis system development.

Analysis of already created heat metering and billing systems are made. Lacks and advantages of existing systems are overlooked and considered for add-on model development. Heat metering and billing functions are described and solution is presented. MS Navision and MS SQL Server technologies usability aspects where analyzed. The functionality of MS Navision where compared with described heat metering and billing functions and the fit-gap where made. Product was built as a specific add-on module for MS Navision Attain. The most important goals of product where heat energy billing integration with financial management and flexible data model for program adaptation to methodology changes of heat energy billing. Data model flexibility analysis where done and compatibility to requirements was established. MS Navision and MS SQL server functions performance testes where run and recommendations for choosing platform are made.
