An investigation into employee perceptions of the factors that influence transfer of training at Standard Executors and Trustees.

Khan, Ashraff M. January 2005 (has links)
This dissertation focuses on the transfer of training at Standard Executors and Trustees. Studies indicate that too often managers in organisations get involved in what they call training, which they carry out as a matter of routine (Erasmus and Van Dyk,1999:10). This form of training, which is done merely for the sake of training, does not add any tangible benefits for the employee or the organisation. Chapter one of this study presents a background to the company and the issues surrounding the transfer of training as well as some of the benefits that may be achieved by positive transfer of training within an organisation. The chapter also contains a statement of the objectives and hypotheses of the study. Chapters two, three and four present the literature, which was reviewed for the study. In Chapter two various definitions of training, development, learning and transfer of training are explored. Chapter three looks at a systematic approach to transfer of training and Chapter four looks at the transfer process model, which focuses on work Environment Factors that influence transfer of training in organisations. Chapter five outlines the research methodology that was followed in this study. Chapter six presents the field study, which involved the following: • The design of a research questionnaire to investigate the perceptions held by employees in relation to the factors they believe influence transfer of training at Standard Executors and Trustees. • The development of a research model. • The presentation of the research findings. The study ends with Chapter seven which provides a conclusion, discussion and recommendations in respect of the research findings. The key research findings are that Transfer of Training within Standard Executors and Trustees is greatly influenced by: • The assessment of training needs. • The employee's motivation to learn. • The employee's ability to learn. The research also indicates that the while the under-mentioned variables have an influence on Transfer of Training at Standard Executors and Trustees, their influence is not significant: • The design of training. • The selection of an appropriate training venue. • The evaluation of employee performance during and after attending a training course. • The use of goal setting and relapse prevention techniques. • The issue of organisational support was also investigated, however the statements investigating this aspect of the study had very low reliability values and in the final analysis this area will need further research. / Thesis (MBA)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2005.

Who cares for the caregiver? How are the needs of caregivers of primary malignant brain tumour patients met through structured neuro-oncology programs in Canadian Centres?

Reuter, Orit 23 November 2011 (has links)
This qualitative multi case research asks how the needs of caregivers of primary malignant brain tumour (PMBT) patients are met through structured neuro-oncology programs in Canadian centres. Utilizing telephone interviews with eleven social workers and one psychologist the study analyses their perspectives on the scope and nature of services to brain tumour patients and their caregivers. PMBT is a rare and palliative disease often with neurocognitive and neurobehavioral effects posing special challenges for caregivers. Health care system reliance on family caregivers has resulted in significant implications for their emotional and physical risk. Findings show exclusive patient focused health care in ambulatory programs with fragmented care resulting in marginalization and invisibility of caregivers. This approach is inconsistent with current literature promoting collaborative family centered care, recommended for continuity of care throughout the illness trajectory. Recommendations focus on systemic caregiver service improvements.

Children of a lesser school : An interdisciplinary study on disability in the Greek educational reality

Kitsiou, Maria January 2015 (has links)
ABSTRACT What is the situation for disabled children in the Greek educational system today, in the aftermath of the deep-seated socio-economic crisis? The present study is going to give an insight in children disability and how this is handled by the Greek educational system. To specify and illustrate the need for a qualitative perspective, it is necessary to take into consideration not only the exact numbers of disabled students and schools existing for them, along with the usefulness and functionality of their facilities, but also different qualitative aspects and intersecting parameters determining the attitude towards those children, such as gender, sexuality, age and bodily ability; all of them contributing to a specific collective mind-set that has arisen from a nexus of economical, educational, European and local structures, and their upheaval. This is such a study, providing a limited, but qualitative picture of the situation from an intersectional Gender Studies perspective onto legislative documents, the experiences of a few current educational practitioners (herein interviewed), and onto the state of the art of existing research on the topic which is mostly quantitative and statistics-based.  The over-arching question, guiding this investigation, is how the educational rights and well-fare of children with special educational needs, are practiced, cared for and discussed in the present Greek educational system with regard to intersectional gender concerns of inclusion and/or integration. This study hopes thus to provide an interdisciplinary snap-shot of the educational situation for disabled children in a disabled societal context.

Andersson, Patricia, Gillisson, Sara January 2015 (has links)

Johansson, Johannes, Nygårds, Viktor January 2015 (has links)
The competition within the retail market is increasing, both from other retail stores but even from the fast growing internet trade, which puts pressure on the physical stores to have satisfied customers that continues to shop in the store. An approach to face the increasing competition is to have a servicescape that is designed to face the customers’ needs, which assume that the traders knows what their customers’ needs are. If the traders have wrong perception about the needs of their customers there might be a gap that decreases the chance the customers will be satisfied and with it the competitiveness of the stores. A definition has been made to clothing stores, because those are among the stores that are the most exposed to competition. The purpose of this paper have been to map how the customers’ needs agree with or differentiate from what the traders thinks theirs customers needs are. In order to fulfill the purpose a qualitative method with a statistic adaptation i.e. a quantitative adaptation were the results are shown with the help of frequencies and value on a scale was applied. Data was collected with questioners which were designed based on the ten factors that were put together in the theoretical framework. The questioners were shared to both customers and traders in the center of Borlänge and the center of Falun. The result analysis shows that for the factors light (4.2), press (4.5), (4.6), sound (4.7), toilets (4.9), (4.10) a gap existed between the traders perception about the customers’ needs and the reality of those needs. It was also shown that the traders perception for the factors cleaned (4.3), (4.4), entrance & exits (4.8) were even higher than what the customer’s needs really are. The result analysis also shows that the customers’ needs are affected by the customers’ demographic factors age and gender just as it had been discussed in the theoretical framework. The price level of the clothing stores also affected the customers’ expectations of to what degree they could expect to get their needs satisfied as also discussed in the theoretical framework. The conclusion that the authors identified were that there is a gap for the majority of the identified factors between traders’ perception of their customers’ needs and what the customers says that those needs are. Even though the customers say they have those needs it doesn’t mean it agrees with the reality. It´s hard to distinguish any pattern in terms of the gaps, but there is tendencies that can be seen, which results in that each factor should be analyzed individually.
