Non-governmental organizations’ impact in a sustainable context : A case study from ActionAid Denmark’s Global Platform Mt. Kenya

Pihlblad, Kristina January 2015 (has links)
As the world globalizes and people travel more, volunteering has never been more popular to combine with a cultural exchange. Many countries have volunteers and non-governmental organizations which try to help that country’s vulnerable. This study investigates the impact of non-governmental organizations through a case study done at one of ActionAid Denmark’s Global Platforms in Kenya. This Platform works as one of ActionAid’s training hubs where participants from mostly Denmark and Kenya take part in courses focusing on capacity building and global citizenship. Their aim is to provide knowledge to facilitate social change. By using qualitative data in the form of interviews and observation, this study makes an impact assessment and evaluates what impact the Mt. Kenya platform actually achieves and what challenges there might be. Questions about the impact and challenges are asked to a wide range of involved people at the Platform, namely participants, staff, locals and neighbors. This study’s theoretical concept employs the theories “4 Levels of Evaluation” developed by Donald Kirkpatrick and Robert Brinkerhoff’s “The Success Case Method” as well as Jack Mezirow’s theory of transformative learning and Beck’s & Purcell’s theory of social change. The analysis shows that the trainings themselves make a tremendous impact on the individuals participating in the Platform’s trainings. The courses are well structured and executed by the facilitators. The concept where different cultures meet and interact is a success in itself. To make even more impact in the community and for the people in the surrounding area, the Platform needs to be more visible to the locals and improve its marketing and communication activities so the locals want to participate more.

Brink, Erik, Knutsson, Ebba January 2015 (has links)

Kaimo pilietinė bendruomenė ir jos sąsajos su švietimo sistema (Kaišiadorių rajono atvejis) / The rural civic community and it’s connections with the education system (the case of Kaišiadorys district)

Daškevičienė, Ramunė 24 September 2008 (has links)
Tikslas realizuojamas šiais uždaviniais: a) išanalizuoti kaimo pilietinės bendruomenės sampratą bei bendruomeninio judėjimo raidą Lietuvoje; b) aptarti kaimo pilietinės bendruomenės sąsajų su švietimo sistema rezervus; c) išnagrinėti kaimo pilietinės bendruomenės sąsajų su švietimo sistema trikdžius; d) ištirti kaimo pilietinės bendruomenės švietimo veiklos galimybes; e) interviu pagalba išsiaiškinti Kaišiadorių... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The theme of this master’s paper - The rural civic community and it’s connections with the education system (the case of Kaišiadorys district). The object of this study is the rural civic community and it’s connections with the education system. The problem of the study – more active involvement of the rural civic community in the education system. The hypothesis of this study: 1) involvement of the rural civic community in the education system determines potential of the community (competences of it’s members, possibility to fulfil the needs of community’s members, competitive ability); 2) the rural civic community is connected with the education system weakly or nominally. The purpose of this study is to reveal reserves and encumbrances of rural civic community’s connection with the education system. Lyties stereotipas bendruomenėje / The sex stereotype in the society

Šuklin, Gleb 30 June 2009 (has links)
The work was made by Gleb Šuklin, Political sociology master‘s degree student of VPU Social sciences faculty Sociology and political sciences department. Hypotheses of an investigation: 1. Different social evaluations of the sexes still dominate in modern society, but the new generation pay less and less attention to stereotypes; 2. Communal movement is a great assumption for minifying the stereotypes – many respondents think like this. Society as the institution is empowered to negate settled sexes’ stereotypes, many of which earlier or later should disappear. 3. Respondents think that a very big influence in forming stereotypes has mass media, the education atmosphere. Settled stereotypes largely are the outcomes of the education and living atmosphere. The object of the investigation is civil society and its correlations with social evaluation of the sexes’ stereotypes. The problem of the investigation: is the energisation of the civil society for eliminating evaluation of the sexes’ stereotypes The purpose of the investigation is to disclose some civil society‘s and sexes’ evaluation tendencies in nowadays context. Tasks of the investigation: 1. To analyze the conception of the stereotypes and role in the society; 2. To define the conception of the society and the importance of the society members in its life. 3. To fulfill the investigation that would let to ascertain the position of the society members’ about the questions of sexes’ stereotypes and evaluation.

Salvador

No. of bitstreams: 1 parte1.pdf: 2500302 bytes, checksum: b48e2a6f223a94187a0910298dc94079 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-06-14 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The Planetary Education presents, in the 21st century, as a promising expectancy for the educational projects of human formation. This makes up a strategy for developing, in the individual, the understanding of his or her itinerancy in the planet. In this perspective, we understand that the contemporary educational processes can be conducted by different sectors of society, such as the Non-Governmental Organizations (ONGs) with projects of social action in which such processes are developed. Thus, this research aims to trying to understand how the relation among the educational processes accomplished inside such entities and the theoretical, methodological, ideological and political proposals regarding the Planetary Education occur. Hence, two questions guided the investigation: first, to know from which theoretical and methodological bases, the materiality of the planetary education takes place and secondly, which educational processes attained from such actions, concerning the ONGs´ scope, are related to the Planetary Education. In this analysis, we adopted the case study which is restrained to two social action projects fulfilled in a non-governmental entity, in the town of Cajazeiras-PB. The analyzed data were obtained from the coordinators, managers and the beneficiaries of the social action projects, by means of observation, interviews and documental research, during July/2008 to December/2009. The organization and interpretation of the collected content were achieved by taking into account the phenomenological method. The results were systematized from formulated analysis categories and they showed that all the participants involved know how important these social action projects are for the improvement of life quality of those people who live in undesirable situations. This has enabled that the educational processes, made possible by such proposals, are carried out in a contextualized, participative and sharing way and, thus, have arisen, in the involved participants, the feeling of commitment and responsibility with the building of new social sceneries. The thesis which builds on the investigative course is that the Non- Governmental Organizations, with social projects, promote positive changes in both people s and communities´ lives and, in this way, the planetary education is practiced, once their interventions promote, in the individuals, new ways of seeing as well as being in the world. Such interventions also allow these people to understand their protagonist role while building up their identities and the personal and collective self-accomplishment. Furthermore, they contribute for the pertinent knowledge production by means of solidarity and cooperative participation.

Seeking for obstacles to achieve feasible interventions within NGOs with the use of Participatory Design : A study in “Network for children’s rights” Greek NGO.

Syrengelas, Emmanouil January 2018 (has links)
Non Governmental Organizations have a mission to improve the conditions of the whole or a part of the local societies in the place where they are active. “Network for children’s rights” is a Greek NGO that mostly aims to fight for and ensure the appliance of children’s rights as these have been embodied in national and European Union legislation and international treaties. Its employees are working hard to fulfill their everyday tasks and serve the children members. The scope of this study is to seek for major obstacles in order to achieve feasible interventions within NGOs with the use of Participatory Design. PD methodology is considered a fruitful one to engage the employees and other stakeholders who are affected by a problematic situation into the following processes: 1) to co-research the situation inside the working, social, financial and legal context, 2) to express their feelings, opinions, ideas on how the situation can be improved according to their needs, 3) to co-design and evaluate the solution. To fulfill the scope, a PD study in the NCR was conducted. The outcome of the study as well as its whole process were evaluated. Two major obstacles were found. The first and most significant one has been the very small percentage of representation of the stakeholders of the NGO who participated in the study. The second one has been the lack of collaborative language games to ensure mutual understanding among participants. A researcher should pay extra attention to overcome these obstacles and future studies may provide with new tools that confront them.

Macromarketing, marketing social e o processo de marketing em uma organização não governamental: um estudo exploratório / Macromarketing, social marketing and the marketing process in an non-governmental organization: an exploratory study

Carlos Rosolen Jorge 08 October 2013 (has links)
An important contemporary phenomenon is the increasing presence of Third Sector organizations, which include different types of non-profit institutions - traditional, religious and secular entities, non-governmental organizations, associative entities and corporate initiative entities. Marketing articles discourse on the characteristic environment of those organizations and describe the marketing management process by individualizing and adapting concepts, techniques and marketing tools intended for conventional companies to the specificities of that kind of organization. However, studies on the subject are usually limited to specific contexts in a particular organization and focus on the operational level, without defining a master guideline that address, in an integrated manner, the connections between this level and the strategic dimension of the organization. In addition, the literature on the subject has not included the construct value as a key element for the development of the marketing management process in all levels of decision. In this sense, the purpose of the dissertation was to discuss and describe the marketing management process of Third Sector organizations according to a value perspective. To achieve this goal, the methodological approach chosen first outlined a theoretical framework as a basis for the development of an analytical scheme of the marketing management process of a Third Sector organization, based on its evolution, from the perspective of some schools of thought in marketing, using as a reference element the concept of value in its multiple meanings. On a second phase, the author performed an exploratory and qualitative empirical research, considering the marketing process of a cause-related Third Sector organization. Therefore, one important contribution of the study was the outline of an analytical integrator scheme, covering the marketing management process gravitating around the construct value.
