Estudo da transmissão e distribuição de tensões aplicadas à resina acrílica convencional e acrescida de fibras através do método fotoelástico / Study of tension transmission and distribution applied upon acrylic conventional resin and strengthened by fibers through photoelastic method

Andréa Gomes de Oliveira 08 August 2007 (has links)
Acrylic resin is found among the most used materials in dentistry. Despite its qualities, the polymetilmetacrylate yet shows itself as a material with questionable resistance. Therefore, lots of reinforcements have been proposed in literature and among them we find glass fibers and aramid. Although they add to the resistance of the acrylic matrix, little is known about how the efforts applied upon the resin strengthened by the fibers are transmitted and distributed over the sustaining areas, which motivated the course of this study. Ten specimens made of termcured acrylic resin were created and divided into five groups according to the reinforcement used: roving glass fibers treated by immersion in the acrylic monomer (Group F), mesh glass fibers given the same treatment above (Group M), glass fibers braided with aramid and treated by immersion in the blending momer/polimer (Group H) and glass fibers braided with aramid and treated by signalization (Group HS). As control group (C) were used samples of acrylic resin termically activated without the addition of fibers. After adapting the specimens to the photoelastic matrix, the former were submitted to flexural tests through the Universal Machine of Rehearsal (EMIC-model DL 2000, S. J. Dos Pinhais, PR, Brazil) joint to the Circular Polariscope ( developed in the Mechanical Engineering College ? UFU, Uberlândia, MG, Brazil. The results show values to the Distortion Energy, in Kgf /mm2, of 223,124 for group F; 218,710 for group H; 217,692 for group M; 215,810 for group HS and 210,122 for group C. It was also observed that the distortion energy presented homogeneous growing distribution in al the groups studied. We conclude that the association of fibers to the acrylic resin generated an increase of the energy accumulated in the area of prosthetic support, thus the highest values were observed in the group with roving glass fibers. We noticed that the silanization of the hibrid fiber contributed to a smaller tension transmission to the photoelastic matrix.

Degradação da resina de troca iônica utilizando o reagente de Fenton / Degradation of ion spent resin using the Fentons reagent

Leandro Goulart de Araujo 15 August 2013 (has links)
The most common method for spent radioactive ion exchange resin treatment is its immobilization in cement, which reduces the radionuclides release into the environment. Although this method is efficient, it increases considerably the final volume of the waste due to the low incorporation capacity. The objective of this work was to develop a degradation method of spent resins arising from the nuclear research reactor located at the Nuclear and Energy Research Institute (IPEN-CNEN/SP), using an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) with Fentons reagents. This method would allow a higher incorporation in cement. Three different resins were evaluated: cationic, anionic and a mixture of both resins. The reactions were conducted varying the catalyst concentration (25, 50, 100 and 150 mM), the volume of hydrogen peroxide (320 to 460 mL), and three different temperatures, 50, 60 and 70 ºC. Degradation of about 98% was achieved using a 50 mM catalyst solution and 330 mL of hydrogen peroxide solution. The most efficient temperature was 60ºC.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different photo activation modes on irradiance, the degree of conversion and formation of internal and external gaps in class II restorations using bulk fill resins. One hundred and sixty bovine incisors were cut and worn to simulate posterior teeth, in which class II preparations were performed. The specimens were divided into four groups according to the restorative material used: Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill (TB), Admira fusion X-tra Bulk fill (AB), Tetric N-Ceram (TC), GrandioSO (GO). The bulk fill resins were inserted in a single increment of 4 mm, and in the other groups, the incremental oblique technique was used. The photo activation was performed with a Monowave (MW) or Polywave (PW) light curing devices selecting two modes (high continuous intensity (HCI) and soft start (SS)). The irradiance measurement was performed using Patient Simulator (MARC-PS) in HCI and SS modes, for 20 s. For the degree of conversion, 2 mm and 4 mm high and 5 mm diameter molds were prepared for resin insertion directly on the attenuated total reflectance (ATR) spectrometer (FTIR). The upper surfaces of the samples were irradiated in situ for 20 s with the light curing apparatus in the modes (HCI) and (SS), the lower surface spectra was recorded continuously in real time and then at 15 min after irradiation. For the evaluation of the external gap each specimen was evaluated twice, one before and one after the thermomechanical cycling. For internal gap, the specimens were sectioned and evaluated using the stereomicroscope using a 50x magnification. About the irradiance, the Monowave LED showed the highest irradiance values (1822,2 mW/cm2 - HCI; 1748,1 mW/cm2 - SS), in the DC analysis, the two way ANOVA test showed significant difference (p <0.05) for the resin type. TB showed the lowest DC, with a statistical difference for AB. For the marginal gap, a significant difference was found for the photopolymerization factor and resin x photopolymerization interaction (p <0.05). TC light cured by PW/HCI showed the highest average marginal gap (13.94 μm) and TC light cured by MW / HCI revealed the lowest (9.59 μm) marginal gap. After thermomechanical aging, GO light cured by PW / SS had a higher percentage of increasing marginal gap (48.54%) and the highest internal gap when light cured by MW / HCI (85.05 μm). It was concluded that the type of photopolymerization did not influence the degree of DC. The restorations light cured by PW device showed the highest external marginal gaps. Bulk fill resins exhibited lower marginal and internal gap values after thermomechanical aging when compared with conventional resin.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of conversion of resin cements polymerized under different thicknesses of feldspatic ceramic and different ceramic systems with the same thickness. In the first study, eighty samples of RelyX ARC (3M Espe) and RelyX Veneer (3M Espe) were polymerized under conventional ceramic discs (Starlight, DeguDent) with thickness of 0.5 mm 1.2 mm, 1.8 mm and 2.4 mm. In the second study, eighty samples of RelyX ARC (3M Espe) and Maxcem Elite (Kerr) resin cements were polymerized over ceramics systems: Starlight (DeguDent), Empress (Ivoclar Vivadent), E-max (Ivoclar Vivadent), In Ceram Alumina (Vita) and In Ceram Zircon (Vita) with 2.0 mm of thickness. The degree of conversion of the resin cements was calculated 10 minutes, 1 hour and 24 hours after the curing of cements using a Nexus 670 FTIR spectrophotometer (Nicolet). The RelyX ARC showed higher values of degree of conversion than RelyX Veneer considering all the ceramics thickness in the first study. The measurements obtained after 1 hour and 24 hours did not differ significantly (p=0.7433), but were higher than those analyzed after 10 minutes (p<0.0001). Comparing the ceramic systems in the second study, the highest degree of conversion were obtained for samples polymerized under Empress and e.max ceramics, without statistically difference between them (p= 0.1181) and the lower values of conversion were obtained for the samples polymerized under In Ceram Alumina and In Ceram Zircon ceramics (p= 0.2374). Based on the results of these studies, we can conclude that the thickness of feldspatic porcelain as well as the ceramic system itself could influence the degree of conversion of light- and dual-cured resin cements. All the resin cements showed an increase on the degree of conversion after 24 hours, which could create an especial guideline for the clinical procedures using resin cements

The objective of this study was to evaluate the cumulative effect of disinfectant solutions in cytotoxicity base acrylic resins (Vipi Wave) and reline (Tokuyama Rebase II) of dentures. The samples of both base and of reline, eight hours were immersed in solutions and 16 hours in distilled water, simulating night disinfection of prostheses. The solutions were changed daily. After different periods of immersion, the samples were placed in culture medium for 24 hours to obtain extracts for analysis of cytotoxicity on human keratinocyte (HaCaT: 0341). The cellular metabolism was assessed by Alamar Blue ® test. It used analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test, with 5% significance. The results demonstrated that the resin type had no influence on cellular metabolism. Furthermore, the immersion of the samples in acrylic resin base and reline dentures in distilled water, 3.8% sodium perborate and 0.5% sodium hypochlorite did not influence the cellular metabolism of keratinocytes, regardless of the time of immersion. The extracts obtained from immersing the samples 2% chlorhexidine digluconate or apple vinegar for 3 and 6 months were considered strongly cytotoxic. It was concluded that chlorhexidine digluconate 2% and apple vinegar increased cytotoxicity of denture base and reline acrylic resins.

Nonlinear Inelastic Mechanical Behavior Of Epoxy Resin Polymeric Materials

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: Polymer and polymer matrix composites (PMCs) materials are being used extensively in different civil and mechanical engineering applications. The behavior of the epoxy resin polymers under different types of loading conditions has to be understood before the mechanical behavior of Polymer Matrix Composites (PMCs) can be accurately predicted. In many structural applications, PMC structures are subjected to large flexural loadings, examples include repair of structures against earthquake and engine fan cases. Therefore it is important to characterize and model the flexural mechanical behavior of epoxy resin materials. In this thesis, a comprehensive research effort was undertaken combining experiments and theoretical modeling to investigate the mechanical behavior of epoxy resins subject to different loading conditions. Epoxy resin E 863 was tested at different strain rates. Samples with dog-bone geometry were used in the tension tests. Small sized cubic, prismatic, and cylindrical samples were used in compression tests. Flexural tests were conducted on samples with different sizes and loading conditions. Strains were measured using the digital image correlation (DIC) technique, extensometers, strain gauges, and actuators. Effects of triaxiality state of stress were studied. Cubic, prismatic, and cylindrical compression samples undergo stress drop at yield, but it was found that only cubic samples experience strain hardening before failure. Characteristic points of tensile and compressive stress strain relation and load deflection curve in flexure were measured and their variations with strain rate studied. Two different stress strain models were used to investigate the effect of out-of-plane loading on the uniaxial stress strain response of the epoxy resin material. The first model is a strain softening with plastic flow for tension and compression. The influence of softening localization on material behavior was investigated using the DIC system. It was found that compression plastic flow has negligible influence on flexural behavior in epoxy resins, which are stronger in pre-peak and post-peak softening in compression than in tension. The second model was a piecewise-linear stress strain curve simplified in the post-peak response. Beams and plates with different boundary conditions were tested and analytically studied. The flexural over-strength factor for epoxy resin polymeric materials were also evaluated. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering 2011

Comparisons of esthetic outcomes among treatment modalities for orthodontic-induced white spot lesions: split-mouth randomized clinical trial

Alwafi, Abdulraheem 25 October 2017 (has links)
AIM: The aim of this study is to compare, in a randomized clinical trial, the appearance improvement of white spot carious lesions (WSL) treated with resin infiltration (RI) – ICON®, 5% sodium fluoride (22,600 parts per million (ppm) with fluoride varnish (FV), and to assess the synergistic effect of adding Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate- MI Paste® (MIP) to these treatment modalities. METHODS: Forty subjects with unrestored WSL, after debanding fixed orthodontic appliances, were recruited from the Department of Orthodontics, Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University. A randomized, split-mouth, and double-blind clinical trial design was used to allocate subjects to resin infiltration and fluoride varnish without MI Paste® (RI and FV), 20 patients, and resin infiltration and fluoride varnish with MI Paste® (RI-MIP and FV-MIP), 20 patients. Patients in the MI Paste® present treatment group given 6-weeks supply of MI Paste®. The assessment methods were: 1) patient self-assessment, 2) expert panel subjective assessment, 3) clinical caries assessment using the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS), and 4) actual lesion size assessment. Treatment efficacy was assessed after 4-6 weeks of application. The appearance improvement was analyzed at α level of 5% and a power of 90%. RESULTS: Over 4-6 weeks, RI treatment appeared to have a higher mean difference between baseline and follow-up compared to fluoride varnish with a statistically significant difference across all assessment methods. The patient self-assessment mean difference was 1.07 (±1.49); 95% CI [0.59 - 1.55], the expert panel subjective assessment mean difference was 0.75 (±1.06); 95% CI [0.61 - 0.88], the ICDAS mean difference was 0.38 (± 0.43); 95% CI [0.24 - 0.52], and the actual size assessment mean difference was 0.07 (±0.16); 95% CI [0.01 - 0.12]. There was no statistically significant difference between the mean differences between RI and RI-MIP, nor between FV and FV-MIP across all assessment methods. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that RI is significantly better in improving the appearance of WSLs when compared to FV. There is little evidence that use of MIP adds to the improvement of the appearance of WSL in conjunction with either modality. / 2019-09-26T00:00:00Z

Rastelli, Alessandra Nara de Souza. January 2004 (has links)
The samples were made in a circular metallic mold with a orifice in the central portion measuring 4 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness (ISO 4049). The composite resin was used the Filtek Z-250 (3M/ESPE) at collor A2. Five samples were made by situation analyzed: GROUP I - halogen and LEDs light-curing devices by exposure times of 40 and 60 seconds for the thickness 0 (control group); 1,0 mm; 2,0 mm and 3,0 mm of the structure dental facet, at the same operation parameters stored in dry mean for 24 hours; GROUP II - halogen and LEDs light-curing devices by exposure times of 40 and 60 seconds for the thickness 0 (control group); 1,0 mm; 2,0 mm and 3,0 mm of the structure dental facet, at the original operation parameters stored in dry mean for 24 hours and thirty days, distilled water, artificial saliva and acetic acid at 10% for thirty days and GROUP III - halogen and LEDs light-curing devices by exposure times of 40 and 60 seconds for the thickness 0 (control group); 1,0 mm; 2,0 mm and 3,0 mm of the structure dental facet stored in 6G rodhamine evaluated for fluorescent spectroscopic testing. The data were submitted to the Statistical Analysis of Variance (p <0,05) and complemented by multiple comparisons by the test of Newman-Keuls at the level 5% of significance. Based on the found results, we could end that: 1) the device of tested halogen light provided larger curing of depth for the trans-dental technique; 2) the device LEDs promoted larger curing of depth for the trans-dental technique, when the source of halogen light was used in the same operation parameters; 3) in the technique trans-dental, independent of the source of used... Shear Strength between a Resin Cement and a Cobalt-Chromium Alloy and Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia

Melki, Philipé, Masso, Ninib January 2018 (has links)
New trademarks appear on the dental market every year and it is difficult to determine whether they should be used in clinical praxis or not. Numerous studies have been carried out to investigate different types of materials, trying to declare which material is best suited for a certain type of restorations. The study objective was to investigate if there are any differences in the shear bond strength between a self-adhesive cement and an yttrium oxide-stabilized zirconium dioxide (Y-TZP) and a dental cobalt-chromium alloy (Co-Cr). The null hypothesis was used. The hypothesis was that the shear bond strengths was the same when cementing the adhesive cement to the dental Co-Cr alloy and the yttrium oxide-stabilized zirconium dioxide. Twenty plastic embedded samples were used in this study, 10 specimens of Co-Cr alloy, and 10 specimens of Y-TZP. The cement was applied, and the specimen were stored in water of 37°C for 24 hr. The tests were performed with an UltraTester™ with the speed of 1 mm / min to measure the shear bond strength (SBS) between the adhesive cement, the Y-TZP and the Co-Cr alloy. The values where then registered. The mean value of the shear bond strength for adhesive cement and Y-TZP was 23.5 MPa, and for Co-Cr alloy 22.8 MPa. No significant difference in shear bond strength were found between the adhesive cement and the Y-TZP and the Co-Cr alloy, after being stored in water for 24 hrs, p > 0.05.

Influência de imersões em vinagre sobre a rugosidade e a dureza de uma resina acrílica de termoativação / Influence of vinegar immersions at surface roughness and microhardness of one thermo cured acrylic resin

Jiménez Pereira, Cláudia January 2014 (has links)
Several substances have been used for the disinfection and hygiene of acrylic resin devices, however, many of these substances are used empirically. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of immersion in vinegar, sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen peroxide on the surface roughness and hardness of thermo-cured acrylic resin Meliodent® Heat Cure (Heraeus Kultzer, Germany). 130 specimens of acrylic resin were produced and randomly divided into 13 groups (n = 10). The control group remained dry without immersion. The test groups were immersed in vinegar, 1% sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide 10V and distilled water during different times (30h, 150h and 300h). The solutions were protected from light and changed every 24 hours. After the immersion period, Knoop hardness and surface roughness of the acrylic resin were evaluated. The Knoop hardness of the specimens were obtained through an automatic microhardness tester HMV-2 (Shimadzu, Japan) with five measurements on each specimen with a load of 25g for 10 seconds. The roughness was determined by five readings on each specimen using a Surface Roughness Tester SJ-201 (Mitutoyo, Japan). The results showed a statistically significant difference in microhardness after immersion for 30h, 150h and 300h in vinegar, 1% sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide and distilled water 10V, compared with the control group. The results of roughness showed no statistically significant difference after immersion for 30h, 150h and 300h in vinegar and distilled water when compared with the control group. Based on the experimental design and results of this study it can be concluded that vinegar can eventually become an option for homemade disinfecting apparatus of acrylic resin.
