Guerra, Rodrigo Marques de Almeida 25 May 2017 (has links)
The academic literature is omit on the simultaneous measurement of the indirect relationship between the Dynamics Capabilities (CDs) and Organizational Ambidexterity (AMB) constructs on the link between Entrepreneurial Orientation (OE) and Organizational Performance (PO). Previous studies emphasize the need for greater theoretical-empirical deepening of the CD and AMB constructs, however in an isolated way. No previous research sought to analyze, in a coexisting way, the two indirect relations. The general objective of this thesis is to measure the impact of CDs and AMB as mediating variables of the relation between OE and PO. For this, a cross-sectional quantitative and descriptive research was carried out through the survey research strategy applied with 385 managers of medium and large companies exporting and importing the transformation sector located in the three southern states from the country. The choice of this segment was due to the representativeness of the researched sector and the industrial vocation of the southern region of Brazil. The research questionnaire used was validated from previous studies, and it was composed of 69 questions (for the measurement of the specific questions the 7-point Likert scale was used). The analysis of the results was based on descriptive statistics, Exploratory Factor Analysis (AFE), multiple linear regression, correlation, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (AFC) and Structural Equation Modeling (MEE) using the statistical software IBM® SPSS® AMOS. For the purpose of this study, it was possible to identify the following findings: strong mediation power of the constructs CDs and AMB; positive relationship between the latent variables OE and PO; the OE construct, through the variables proactivity and innovation, demonstrated a strong antecedent of CDs; the exploration and exploitation dimensions are important antecedents of the AMB variable; the CD construct contributes to a better performance of the firm; the variables absorptive capacity and innovation capacity were identified as subjacent elements of the CDs; the relationship with the stakeholders, growth in sales and profitability are key elements for the measurement of the PO; and, strategizing can be a connecting element between CDs and AMB. The study also presents a summarized theoretical framework composed of the four investigated constructs, associated to the exploration and exploitation dimensions in relation to resource management, skills, competences and core competence. Finally, the research reveals important contributions to future studies, identifies the main limitations of the work and suggests managerial implications for managers of export and import companies in the transformation sector of the states of Rio Grande do Sul/RS, Santa Catarina/SC and Paraná/PR.

Inflexible Patterns : Kay Fiskers Plads and the Fight for Quality Public Space

Jome, Bergen January 2022 (has links)
Kay Fiskers Plads lies at the junction of Copenhagen’s south-bound metro line, M1, and the Øresundtog train route connecting the city with Malmö, Sweden across the Øresund channel. Surrounding the plaza are Scandinavia’s largest shopping mall, Fields, Neroport offices, Sweden’s Ferring Pharmaceuticals branch and office spaces owned by KLP Ejendomme, a Norwegian based real estate firm. The plaza is bordered by long, blank façades that struggle to bring life onto the sidewalks, streets and shared spaces between buildings. Businesses come and leave quickly around Kay Fiskers Plads, while strategies to gain a new customer base and attractive nature continue to push forward. This written presentation of research finds it’s basis in this particular space and sets to accomplish the following tasks: draw attention to the necessity of revitalizing modern urban dead zones; promote methods that, when implemented thoughtfully, can encourage a heightened sense of place / space identity for local residents and businesses; and provide updated and relevant academic literature that promotes knowledge and adds to the conversation surrounding Kay Fiskers Plads and modern urban plaza revitalization. This research thesis will collect data through methods which include semi-structured interviews and mapping of Kay Fiskers Plads by the researcher (the author). These methodologies will be closely accompanied by theoretical perspectives that aim to draw the story of Kay Fiskers Plads into relevancy against the backdrop of global and local economic phenomena, architectural patterns, mega projects and a heightened need for public, multi-use spaces of quality. Work on this thesis began eight months ago in December 2021. However, it aims to bring about a conversation through scholarship that will be discussed forthcoming between city planners, architects, business owners, investors, frequent users of the space and those who will be acquainted with it in the future. There is a pressing need for all previously mentioned parties to have a solid understanding of the far reaching effects that public space, economy, citizens and vitality play upon one another– in essence, a need for discussion on projects under the umbrella scope of urban studies. /
Exam was help online over zoom.

Strategic corporate venturing in interlinked-ambidextrous units

Weiss, Lysander 22 June 2023 (has links)
The publication-based dissertation investigates how to leverage corporate venturing units for the continuous stra- tegic renewal of established companies. It includes four self-contained research papers, from which three are de- veloped for publication in peer-reviewed academic journals, and one for publication as an academic teaching case study. The first paper uses the methodology of a systematic literature review to integrate different research streams of organizational ambidexterity, dynamic capabilities, and corporate venturing. As a result, it provides an inte- grated framework and identifies interlinked-ambidextrous corporate venturing units as a promising research av- enue for strategic corporate venturing. The second paper applies a multiple-case study approach to differentiate contemporary corporate venturing units from a strategic renewal perspective. As a result, it can provide a novel typology and suggest a first organizational framework for strategic corporate venturing. The third paper investi- gates the identified interlinked-ambidextrous corporate venturing units deeper through additional qualitative data collection and analysis. This results in a proposed organizational model of strategic corporate venturing with spe- cific organizational antecedents alongside process activities, dynamic capabilities and organizational interlinks as possible enablers, and ambidextrous orientation as a possible mediator to develop organizationally consequential new business. The fourth paper helps to apply these findings by describing the strategic renewal challenge of the digital scale-up Freeletics and leading through the organizational set-up of a suitable strategic corporate venturing project in the teaching note. To integrate all papers within one dissertation, they are framed with an introductory and concluding section. The introduction describes the overall need and motivation for the research and intro- duces the key theoretical concepts as well as the four research papers and their publication status. The concluding section provides theoretical and practical implications, as well as limitations and future research opportunities across all included papers. Altogether, the dissertation enhances existing corporate venturing theory to better lev- erage the concept for strategic renewal and provides new insights into the establishing and application of dynamic capabilities and organizational ambidexterity in dedicated corporate venturing units.

The Dawn of a New Era : A Case Study of an Incumbent Car Manufacturer’s Transition to Electric Cars

Modiri, Yashar, Olsson, Oskar January 2020 (has links)
How do firms tend to their current viability while remaining competitive in the long-term? This question lays out the basis for this thesis by highlighting their conflicting logics through the concept of organizational ambidexterity. Literature makes a distinction between competing in mature markets and existing technologies (exploitation) versus new markets and new technologies (exploration). The preponderance of studies shows that, as firms grow larger, they tend to form core rigidities in their culture, structure and processes that hamper their efforts to adapt to the changing environment. By overemphasizing exploitative activities, future challenges or opportunities remain unexplored which can have a devastating effect in the event of radical, external changes. The cases of Nokia and Kodak should serve as cautionary tales in this regard. The automotive industry is currently undergoing a transition to electric cars. We conduct a case study at Volvo Cars from a senior leadership perspective, to illustrate the importance of exploration and how it can be legitimized during an industry transformation. Our work points to three major findings. First, communicating the importance of the transformation with the rest of the organization is imperative to creating goal alignment. Secondly, interorganizational collaboration in R&D helps Volvo to tap into knowledge that resides outside the organization and thereby increasing the chances of a successful transition to electric cars. Thirdly, agile management contributes to knowledge diffusion and is a powerful tool to counter organizational inertia by adding to firms’ speed and responsiveness, making them act more similarly to smaller, entrepreneurial firms.

Managing transformation pressure in large organizations : A case study on a product development organization in the transport and truck industry

Timur Emre, Robert, Lindbom Byggnings, Lina January 2019 (has links)
Why do some large organizations succeed during transformations and others do not? This thesis aims to contribute and expand the discussion of how product development capabilities could enable success during transformations. To investigate the problem, a qualitative case study was performed at a large transport and truck incumbent, Scania CV AB. The transport and truck industry is currently pressured to transform, both from a competitive and sustainability perspective. In order to become more adaptable to change, the thesis identified the importance of clearly applying ambidexterity as a strategy to cope with challenges that the transformation implies. However, when applying ambidexterity, interface challenges between exploitation and exploration occur. Success during transformations is mainly dependent on the management to handle those interface challenges properly. This thesis identified two main managerial practices that could benefit incumbents in the transport and truck industry to become more adaptable during a transformation phase. Firstly, a clear strategy of how to manage innovations over time could support large incumbents to leverage innovations for optimal experimentation, scalability, and later profit. Secondly, clear organizational alignment between functions to enhance communication and prioritization especially between exploitative and explorative business activities could support large incumbents to leverage radical innovations within the organization. This thesis argues that implementing structural ambidexterity combined with a clear and streamlined innovation transfer process in three distinct horizons for mature, growth, and future businesses will increase adaptability during transformation pressure. As the main area of future research, this thesis proposes to further investigate the opportunities of an open innovation strategy that leverages partnerships for co-creation in an increasingly interconnected transport ecosystem.

Exploratory Innovations and Exploitation of Knowledge after Large Scale Agile Transformation : A Case Study at an Energy Utility R&D Department

Daraiseh, Firas January 2023 (has links)
Many organizations from and outside of the IT industry are trying to implement Agile in their ways of working via large scale transformations. The organizations feels the need to become Agile in order to increase their client satisfaction, deliver their product faster, and compete in the rapidly changing market. This Master's thesis was conducted at one of the largest energy utilities in the north of Europe, Company C, in order to analyze their R\&D organization after implementing their large scale Agile transformation. The thesis main research question focused on studying how did the large scale Agile transformation effect the organization ambidexterity, knowledge transfer capabilities, and ability to innovate. The question was analyzed qualitatively via an ethnographic design and a set of semi-structured interviews. The results have shown various challenges within the organization that were introduced after the large scale Agile transformation, such as focusing only on customer satisfaction as a measure of success, and the reduction of knowledge transfer capabilities with the department. The analysisand discussions evaluated the connection between those challenges and the large scale Agile transformation. The main takeaways from the Thesis suggested that the Agile transformation provided the necessary tool for the organization to become more exploitative, however, there was no clear connection between the transformation and the diminishing exploratory practices. Moreover, the large scale Agile transformation supported incremental innovations, but did not negatively impact other types of innovation. Finally, the knowledge transfer capabilities were reduced due to the minimal documentation approach that the organization has implemented.
