Cervo, Clarissa Socal January 2016 (has links)
This thesis investigated to what extent the perception of authentic leadership, by leaders and followers, promotes their psychological capital and work engagement. The influence of organizational structure on the variables studied was also analyzed. Five studies were carried out. Firstly, a review was made of the literature on the international production on authentic leadership between 2011 and 2015. That analysis identified important advances in the subject. However, critics of this theory still present points to be addressed. Studies regarding validation and the invariance of the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire for Brazil confirm the suitability of the instrument. The last two studies indicate that psychological capital is a better predictor of employees’ work engagement than authentic leadership. It also emerges that cooperative and entrepreneurial organizational structures have more engaged employees than more individualistic and controlling operational structures.

The evolution of multimodal transportation planning: key factors in shaping the approaches of state DOTs

Smith, Denise A. 09 April 2013 (has links)
As a result of the changing needs of society since the early 20th century, approaches to transportation planning have been continually shifting from highway-focused to multimodal, an approach which takes multiple modes of transportation into consideration. This evolution has been reflected in federal transportation legislation and continues to have many implications for transportation agencies, especially state departments of transportation (DOTs). The objective of this thesis is to analyze what state DOTs have done in order to adapt to the shift. More specifically, the project focuses on the organizational and funding structures of state DOTs. First, an organizational structure analysis of all 50 state DOTs was carried out. This analysis looked at how state DOTs incorporate multiple modes of transportation into their organizational structure. Secondly, the results of a statewide multimodal planning survey, to which 35 states responded, were analyzed. The survey gauged to what extent the representative from a given state DOT thought that their agency was conducting multimodal transportation planning. It also analyzed state DOT modal responsibilities, funding options, and characteristics that influence multimodal transportation planning. Lastly, case studies were carried out for six state transportation agencies: Florida DOT, North Carolina DOT, Oregon DOT, Virginia's Transportation Secretariat, Maryland DOT, and Massachusetts DOT. These case studies focused on organizational structure, funding, and multimodal efforts. Findings from the three different aspects of this thesis support the notion that highway is still the dominant mode in statewide transportation planning in most state DOTs. However, this research also supports the idea that this situation is changing, though more rapidly in some states than in others. Though it is not evident that one type of organizational structure is better than another, states have used the reorganization of these structures as a method for adapting to multimodal transportation planning. Overall, state DOTs tend to incorporate multiple modes of transportation into their organizational structure through multimodal divisions, separate modal divisions, or a combination of both. In addition to the organizational structures, some states have also restructured their funding mechanisms in order to make funds more flexible across all modes of transportation so that they may be able to better accommodate multimodal transportation planning. Those state DOTs with transportation trust funds and separate modal programs have generally shown more initiative in embracing a more multimodal approach to transportation planning. Besides organizational and funding structures, leadership, organizational culture, and institutional issues have been recognized as factors that influence the extent of multimodal planning.

In addition to examining how the organizational structures evolved in the historical trajectory comparing the same strategies and structures to the evolution model of MNCs from Stopford and Wells (1972). For the object of analysis are considered the strategies of product diversification and geographic area diversification. Regard to the organizations themselves, are selected exemplary cases of Brazilians multinational corporations [MNCs] with a high degree of internationalization facing the industry in which they operate. The theoretical foundation brings concepts from the literature of Strategy and Organizations MNCs. The methodology is supported in the development of a qualitative research with case studies in order to present the strategies and structures present in the process of internationalization of certain Brazilians MNCs. The study aims to deepen the theme, based on exemplary cases, to elucidate the strategies and organizational structures of MNCs analyzed. The results of this study indicate that the basic international strategies are resilient and can be inherent of MNCs in certain sectors. To meet the local needs or global standardization the MNCs have to face exogenous pressures to the strategies - such as government pressure – that are adopted by managers that culminate in the reduction of agency power. The organizational structures that were based on manufacturing corporations lose their relevance when they are used to exemplify MNCs in other industries that show a higher complexity in your formation. And the companies belonging to sectors of service have a greater flexibility for adoption of international strategies by giving space to the use of complementary strategies.

Wahlberg, Magda January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether organizational factors can influence the success of social movements. This is accomplished through a qualitative comparative case study where the women's suffrage movements, Women's Social and Political Union and Landsföreningen för Kvinnans Politiska Rösträtt are compared. The study also aims to increase the understanding and knowledge of the two movements' organization and exercise to answer the question, why both movements succeeded. The study provides an in-depth picture of how the female suffrage movements worked and the similarities and differences between the movements. Finally, the study finds that the organization of the movements did impact the outcome of the movements and can thus explain the success of WSPU and LKPR.

Chouinard, Véronique 12 1900 (has links)
Although there is an abundant literature on primary health care nurse practitioners (PHCNP), the optimal structures and practices to support PHCNPs remain largely unexplored. In Quebec, this issue needs particular attention because of practice settings diversity and physical distance between major key players. Furthermore, the supervision role that seems to be shared by multiple professionals and the legal framework add to the complexity of the implementation of support structures and practices. Through a multiple case study, this paper aimed to explore the managerial structures in place and to analyze the mechanisms deployed to support the development of PHCNP practice. Issuing from a larger scale multicenter research, this study analyzed three separate cases, totaling 18 interviews with health professionals and managers. Based on a three levels model built on the central concept of support, the needs of PHCNP and their teams have been identified. The main results of this research demonstrate the relevance of supervision by the key players of the Department of Nursing. In addition, the coordination between professionals seems enhanced when some organizational structures are implemented. Finally, decision-making committees linked to the implementation of PHCNP appear to be more useful when the environment and experience of the organizations are taken into consideration.
