lowercase t (parting with and for caps lock Moondialed No +***** *****8 [Orbituary]) : Mezzanine 2

Degrér, Christofer January 2018 (has links)
When I write I, I also write we (say we also write that we’re momentarily in possession of the possibilities, and as for the possibilities: they have us), as in my hyperbolic twin brother and I, and from that point on (as well as before) in company with the gaps between us. The auto-corrections, the imposed circumstances, the complicities, and some conspirationalist copings within a system with no clearly identifiable nemesis. Here, the act of resistance to whatever is playing us, also enacts the playing of that which plays us. The heinous power of family and narrative insists. Two lead narratives are interwoven during the course of time it took for a pizza to be delivered (from pizzeria Marco Polo): Looping on a Panasonic Viera TX-55AX630E, the  search for a/my lost and/or hidden dad arrives through the mispronunciation of the word “that” during a negotiation in a park. Where a tangled hypothesis, along the lines of “what if the plot device of a shot of a moon in a video used to forward time (as in an alternative to ‘later that night’) was a graphic representation of an analog clock recognized in a to-be sliced pizza that is eventually consumed as a means to induce a food coma?” takes place (and time, as saved time is always already lost). It’s almost dark already. Also it's not, and the future held hostage by the river of the forest of the woods is followed by the sense of not being able to tell if there’s an emotion or a feeling present. Visits from passed pasts. It all starts to feel originatory. Thanks to X, this keeps on happening, thoughts and behaviours about suspicious timing and holistic systems keep on happening. This keeps on happening, and it works its way into physical works in an exhibition space with no reference to an infirmary, where parrot tulips are emotional flowers, a print is printed using a temperamental printer, sawdust creates glossy eyes, and all locked doors are eventually keyed out. An investigation into conditions of influence, co-authorship, connectivity, all within a space cohabited by comedy, sentimentality, and other states subject to flatness.

Soares, Franco Nero Antunes January 2008 (has links)
This paper aims to show that Hume's claim that we are unavoidably determined to believe in the existence of external objects has the delimitation of our meaning conditioned to the identification and resolution of an inconsistency present in Hume's theory of the unavoidable belief in external objects. This inconsistency expresses itself by the incompatibility between the claim that (P1) we unavoidably believe in external objects and the claim that (P2) we can't conceive external objects. These claims are incompatible if we recognize that Hume claims as well that (P4) we can't believe in something that we can't conceive. This problem arises only if we suppose that Hume univocally uses the expression "external object" in (P1) and (P2), and if we suppose that (P4) is the case, a reasonable starting point. The results indicate that both general views of the meaning of the claim that we unavoidably believe in external objects, the skeptical naturalism and the skeptical realism, arrives at unsatisfactory outcomes because they ignore that problem. Finally, concludes that there's not, actually, an inconsistency in Hume's theory of belief in external objects because it's not the case that we can't conceive external objects. This conception of external existences arises out of a sentiment or natural instinct of the mind.

Supply chain management problems experienced by South African automotive component manufacturers

Naude, Micheline Juliana Alberta 12 1900 (has links)
The South African automotive industry has experienced significant changes in the last 20 years. Globalisation, the implementation of lean production and the development of modularisation have had a profound influence on the relationships between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their suppliers, the automotive component manufacturers (ACMs), and their suppliers. South Africa has a number of OEMs and a vibrant automotive component manufacturing industry (ACM), which supplies the South African aftermarket and a spread of export markets. These ACMs are the focus of this study. The main objective of this research study was to identify the supply chain management problems ACMs in South Africa encounter, to what extent they face these problems and how these can be overcome. The problems were identified through a literature review and interviews with two OEMs in South Africa. Using this data a questionnaire was compiled and sent to all NAACAM members for completion. This study is by nature descriptive and exploratory and contains quantitative and qualitative elements. Seven hypotheses were formulated to guide the research. The findings of this research indicate that the geographic location, age and size of the business, have no bearing on the supply chain problems ACMs face, whist the relationship between ACMs and their suppliers and ACMs and their customers is a significant problem. The findings also indicate that the following are some of the main supply chain problems facing ACMs: pressure by OEMs to reduce prices; the price of materials; cancellation of orders; excessive inventory; the unreliability of rail transport and rail capacity problems; the high cost of South African ports; the cost of replacing outdated technology; and BBBEE – achieving and verifying BEE scorecards. The findings further indicate a lack of skills and labour problems, both of which are time consuming to resolve. This study was completed over a four-year period. At the commencement of this study the automotive industry was booming, but in mid-2008, a global economic crisis started. This crisis impacted adversely on the automotive industry globally and in South Africa. Despite these challenges, leaders in the South African automotive component industry remain positive about the future. This study was completed over a four-year period. The evolution of human consciousness and the creation of the soul

Van Heerden, Michael Johann. 08 1900 (has links)
Revelation is God's Word addressed to the human being and so speaks of God in relation to the person and the world. Revelation can therefore only be fully understood, proclaimed and lived through an encounter with the world and its conceptions. To understand the evolution of human consciousness and the creation of the soul, we look to the sources of revelation (scripture and tradition) in dialogue with secular anthropology. The latter's paradigm of development and growth is not foreign to the former's understanding of conversion and growth in grace . The image of God, which characterises the human person, is shown to be an emergent likeness, which is created and drawn to its fullness by God. This accounts for Pius XII' s insistence that the soul is created immediately by God, who is responsible for the physical dynamics that bring forth consciousness and the personal dynamics that empower the human soul to develop. / Philosophy Practical andSystematic Theology / M.Th (Systematic Theology)

Utopia Trek : utopibegreppets resa genom Star Trek / Utopia Trek : a travel through Star Trek with the concept of utopia

Schön, Anna January 2004 (has links)
Humanity has always dreamed about a better world. These dreams has manifested themselves in the vision of Utopia - the good place, but also the non-existing place. Up until World War II man still wrote optimistic descriptions of this ideal world, and spread the idea through literature. In the aftermath of the atomic bomb and under the influence of the cold war, these publications seized to surface in literary surroundings. Despite this utopia did not die - it has only changed. Today you can find utopia, not primarily in books, but in Science Fiction. TV’s biggest Science Fiction-series, Star Trek, is perhaps the best example of this. The Master's thesis "Utopia Trek - a travel through Star Trek with the concept of utopia" takes you through the history of utopia and into its new habitat, Star Trek, where the essence of a utopia for the 21th century is found, discussed and reevaluated.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Marco Antonio Fernandes Cardoso.pdf: 2343098 bytes, checksum: 014e0f030b71d4416f7e51bdebee12d7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-05-06 / Fundo Mackenzie de Pesquisa / The literature on organizational identity, from various perspectives, deals with additive business processes such as mergers, acquisitions or cooperative enterprises among companies. However, the inverse, subtractive process, where a company emerges from the original company, has not received much attention in the literature with respect to the creation of the new company s identity. This thesis aims to understand the construction of the organizational identity of a spin-off outsourced company. A qualitative, exploratory and longitudinal study was performed on the basis of a case study. The research consisted of 13 in-depth interviews with the key actors involved from the start of the spin-off process, along with the current managers, including non-participant observation in meetings and events, as well as broad documental analysis. The transcribed interview texts and secondary data were analyzed on the narrative and discursive levels, both in terms of syntax and of semantics under textual semiotics. The central and distinctive identity characteristic, present on the fundamental level of the discourses belonging to the studied case, was found to be reliability. This attribute, which was consolidated along the spin-off company s historical path, in an integrated manner among its members and groups, refers to the identity category of the fundamental level of the semiotic square revealed during the research. The inexorable influence of the original company s organizational culture on the construction of the new company s identity was also observed, at least in the initial phase; this process was identified as an organizational culture spin-off. However, through semiotic analysis of the texts in the study s corpus it was possible to identify other aspects of organizational identity, relative to otherness and its contradictions, which were of an unstable, tensional and ambiguous nature but were nonetheless relevant to understanding the way organizations create their identities.

The aim of this dissertation is to collaborate with the international finance literature, addressing the debate on the "acceptable" sovereign debt limits debt, as well as addressing on debt denomination in the international market. The analysis of debt limits is based on a model in which self-fulfilling debt crises can occur when the debt level reaches a certain range. Once this range is reached, the debt may (or may not) be rolled over and, if creditors do not grant new loans, the crisis becomes, in fact, a self-fulfilling prophecy. The results indicate that the indebtedness limit, besides being persistent, depends highly on the debt/GDP ratio, as well as on historical inflation, banking crises and default (or restructuring) of sovereign debt. Subsequently, an application of the estimated model is made to peripheral countries of the Euro Zone. The results suggest that countries like Portugal and Greece, even after the adoption of the single currency, have difficulties in managing their debt levels. The results also suggest that the worse the macroeconomic history, the lower the country's ability "to tolerate" debt. In relation to debt denomination, the study seeks to identify to what extent the volatility of real effective exchange rate, controlled by several factors, have an influence on how countries gain access to the international bond market. The results indicate that low exchange rate volatility is a fundamental condition for debt denominated in local currency in international markets. Moreover, the size of the economy, stability of regulations, enforcement of contracts and ample liquidity in domestic financial markets are factors that contribute to the acceptance of a currency in international debt contracts. Additional evidence of the study suggests that the broad international liquidity, mainly observed in the 2000s, was unable to expand significantly the number of currencies used in international debts. Still regarding this issue, the dissertation analyzes the first steps of the Brazilian economy in order to extend the profile of its public debt through the issuance of bonds denominated in Reais in the international market.
