______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This work seeks to explore the relations of the Argentine State with the Afro-Brazilian Religions Communities that are located in that country. This, from the understanding that Argentina is a country largely influenced by a Europeanized self-image and Catholic conceptions of the world. Through the prism of modernity, in the field of Sociology of Religion, the State is here understood as an institution that seeks to rationalize and secularize itself, moving away from the influence of religion. As means to produce this work, a detailed field work was carried out with the community of the temple Ilé Nueva Conciéncia, which is located in the city of Ramós Mejía, in the province of Buenos Aires. Besides this community, the theme was explored through interviews and visits to state actors operating the relationship with the Afro-Brazilian Religions Communities, and other Afro-Brazilian religious from different communities were interviewed, for they are as well interested and involved in these relationships. It could be observed during the research that the most characteristic feature of the relationship between the State and the Afro-Brazilian Religions Communities in Argentina is its paucity, also marked by the disaffection of both parties to each other. The free practice of religion is at present permitted in Argentina, which is an officially secular State, even though the country remains influenced by a Catholic vision of the world and that this religion is sustained as the official religion of the government. Efforts are made by that State in the direction of the appreciation of the cultural diversity in Argentina, which is beneficial for the Afro-Brazilian Religions Communities. However, such efforts are still insufficient to overcome a past marked by intolerance and persecution of the Afro-Brazilian religious practice by the State and do not outweigh the strong stigmatization faced by communities in their social relations.

Completa o trabalho uma nova edição ¿ crítica e revisada ¿ da Sinfonia dos Orixás, a qual serviu de base para o desenvolvimento das idéias aqui expostas e discutidas / Abstract: The Sinfonia dos Orixás, by Almeida Prado, although a not widely performed full-scale symphony, nevertheless can be placed among the most important symphonic works of the Brazilian repertoire. This dissertation presents a detailed analysis of the work and discusses tactical directions for its performance. The initial approach examines the placement of Sinfonia dos Orixás within the composer¿s musical output, as well as its relation to his works of the symphonic genre or thematic pieces on the same subject matter. Further approach provides a glimpse of the orixás¿ universe, his involvement with this Afro-Brazilian religious belief and how it influences aesthetic concepts and musical structure. Theoretical elements and compositional processes are examined in the third chapter with emphasis on the use of the orchestral forces, structural components of the musical language and thematic development. A more practical aspect of this study is presented in the second part and is directed to the conductor and the preparation of the orchestra through rehearsals. Technical discussions and musical suggestions are offered for a meaningful performance. A final appendix incorporates a table of recommendations and rehearsal procedures as exposed in chapter four. A critical and thoroughly revised new edition of the Sinfonia dos Orixás, which served as basis for the elaboration of this dissertation accompanies the present work / Mestrado / Musica / Doutor em Música

Ketu candomblé and education: strategies for empowerment of black women.

Oliveira, Kiusam Regina de 10 April 2008 (has links)
This is a piece of theoretical research, specifically historical-cultural, with the objective of discussing strategies used in Ketu Candomblé which can empower black women and their possibility of being applied in formal education. The concept of the body and its meaning in society have become fundamental, as it is from the body that possible identifications arise between individuals and gives rise to diverse reactions in people depending on their characteristics. In this research, the body is resignified, including through the mythic dance of the Orixás. Subjectivity is primary, as identifications occur from the stories of real and concrete people with diverse experiences. Discussing this is necessary as it is an important instrument to be used by education professionals who work constantly with racial diversity between male and female students in a society with prejudices such as in Brazil which are imposed on them constantly, exposing them to vulnerability, whether for being negroes, poor or women, or any combination of these. The research revealed that the subjectiveness of those interviewed underwent significant and positive transformations when they began attending Ketu Candomblé, as the orixá heroes resided within their bodies. This study emphasizes the constructive character - interpretative and dialogical of knowledge - through the interpretation of González Rey. The field research consisted of interviews with two ebomis (people with more than seven years of initiation in Ketu Candomblé) belonging to the female orixá Oxum, in São Paulo. In carrying out this study, the instruments used were: conversational dynamic, personally by telephone or by e-mail, emphasizing process of character in the relationships with the participants and the field diary. Such instruments supplied indicators of subjective meaning which, in our analysis, led us to the construction of the following nuclei of subjective meaning: the impact of subjectivity of Eliana and Vera in relation to: a) Ketu Candomblé; b) identity; c) contemporary black women; d) formal education and the black child. The impact of each of these nuclei of subjective meaning on the ebomis interviewed were the principal results of this research, giving rise to further knowledge, such as that Ketu Candomblé has strategies to empower black women living in racist societies and who need to rebuild their identities. Thus this religious space can offer education professionals strategies which can occupy leading spaces within education with the purpose of empowering Negro children in Brazilian classrooms and promote antiracist education.

Azorli, Diego Fernando Rodrigues. January 2016 (has links)
Dentre os temas abordados por nós estão o casamento, a vida doméstica, a maternidade, a concepção e outras nuances da vida dessas mulheres / Abstract: We try to think, in this work, a story of women in West Africa of the nineteenth century from the mythology of the orishas. These African gods have their mythological stories full of everyday indications of these Yoruba women who were also portrayed by travelers who passed through Africa in that period, although with different objectives from ours. The day-to-day performance of their social duties of mother and wife, were also found in the revenue collected by Pierre Verger. We complement our analysis with Odus of Ifa - reports of a prime time, where we advise how to live and carry so that you can develop a life according to the will of the gods - where women are interpreted by male perspective, since that only they held the secret of this oracle. The african woman, of the region studied by us, have been described and reinterpreted by men and women who are recalled them after the African Diaspora in the New World, reminiscing masked in the mythologies of the Orishas: Eua, Nanã, Oba, Iansa and Oshun. Among the topics addressed by us are marriage, domestic life, motherhood, design and other nuances of the lives of these women / Mestre

Couto, Edilece Souza. January 2004 (has links)
Abstract: The main aim of this research was to study the festivals of Santa Barbara, Our Lady of the Conception and Santa Ana, in Salvador. Despite characteristics in common, each one has its specificities. On December 4th, Santa Barbara opens the calendar of popular religious summer festivals. It is celebrated by tradesmen and market workers. In the same period, people in Bahia worship Our Lady of the Conception. The procession on December 8th is organized by the sisterhood. In January of 1824, fishermen from the village of Rio Vermelho began to worship Santa Ana. Summer tourists performed parades on thematic floats, balls and battles involving confetti and perfume, making the Catholic festival a prelude to Carnival. The period researched (1860-1940) is part of the process of Romanization of Brazilian Catholicism. In addition to taking care of the formation of future priests, the Catholic Church wished to modify the religiosity of lay people. The saints’ festivals, impregnated with profane characteristics and those of other beliefs, were to be purified and controlled by the clergy. The study showed that these transformations were not desired only by the clergy. In the first republic, politicians and the intellectual elite desired progress, modernization and civilization of Brazil. The existence of three reformatory agents was noted clergy, civil authorities and catholic elite dedicated to the metamorphosis of customs. Isolated or joint actions made some festivals disappear, such as that of Santa Ana. The thesis emphasizes the persistence of this tradition, especially amongst those adept at Afro-Brazilian forms of worship. They continued to hold their rituals in the sisterhoods and within the homage paid to saints. They were also perceptive enough to insert offerings to Iemanjá in the calendar of festivals in Salvador. / Doutor

No. of bitstreams: 1 CILMA LAURINDA FREITAS.pdf: 17585790 bytes, checksum: e5517f59d43d8ca95e09224d716ab706 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-12-20 / According to some concepts of Gilbert Durand (sociocultural topic of the imaginary, semantic basin, mythanalysis, day and night regimes of the imaginary), this doctoral thesis searches for two cultural topics from the religious: the mythology of orixás (African) and the Umbanda (Brazilian). Both considered having the same semantic basins and typified as belonging to the same night regime of the imaginary (however, Umbanda is in a phase of transition of regime). In the imaginary study of several populations, Durand organized the mythological expression in two different regimes: the night and the day regimes. The first is the regime of antithesis, the Manichaeism, the universe divided in opposites (the good versus the evil, darkness versus light), the tormented man, polemic, dual, divided in his psyche and his needs to put in order the chaos. The second is the one that unifies and synthesizes the opposites of the universe, the regime of the integral human and allayed with himself. The great family of the orixás, with its thematic unity, his habitus and the euphemic ideology, it is the example of the night regime. This reveals the ethos of a population psychically allayed with itself that solves all of the existential problems by the oracle of Ifá and the offering of gifts to the orixás that answers the demands for happiness, welfare and fortune. Created by the oral collective tradition, memorized by the balalaôs and repassed generation by generation, the mythology of the orixás is the set of narratives of the orixás, the gods of the iorubá African people. The believers receiving their gods in rituals typified with drum sounds, songs, dancing and parties characterize the mediumistic phenomenon of possession, during the celebrations. This is the tradition that arrived in Brazil with the slaves in the XVI century, syncretized with the Catholicism, as a mechanism to avoid the discrimination that the blacks have suffered from their white lords, therefore, resulting in many celebrations of African matrices, which Candomblé and Umbanda stand out. In the present work, the mythanalysis of orixás shows separately the meaning and significance (the two parts of the linguistic sign and symbolic signs). To this reason, the significance is the sensitive part, figurative, concrete and linked to the imaginary with narratives and their contexts (characters, plot, action, time and space); the meaning is the thematic aspect, abstract with some approaches of interpretation: anthropological, historical, social, psychoanalytical and archetypical. The Umbanda, that was born in this semantic basin, in modern times, in the XX century, is a Brazilian religion, which was raised from the synthesis among these celebrations of African matrices, Catholicism, Kardecism and the native indigenous rites, creating, yet, recent myths according to the Brazilian reality. The Umbanda inherited many traces of the basin-mother and the most remarkable of this religion is the practice of the mediumistic appointments with mediums incorporated by spiritual entities that are similar to the oracles of the orixás, taking care of people in existential difficulties, solving magically all the problems they present. Thus, the discourse of legitimation and social acceptance is set, the Umbanda follows its moral principles; practice the good and the good through charity, like the Christian principles.

Figueiredo, Rodolfo Aquino. January 2005 (has links)
Abstract: Our task presents the goal of realizing analyses of two works written by Pierre Fatumbi Verger ("Notes about cult for Orixás and Voduns" and "Orixás") First we investigate how the author can make a pantheon of gods relatively structured. In other words, our first goal was to understand how Verger builds the pantheon of candomblé. Second we look up to point tea main differences between religion of orixás and candomblé and this way report the deep changes between one religion an other one so to question about the central thesis of the book of Orixás, that assume an unchangeable congruence of two religion bodies separated by the Atlantic. Finally we propose evaluate the presentation of Orixás religion in the new world carried out by the author, the sugget a preserved tradicional religion. This way to debate the question supported by the ethnografer of an African purity existing in Brazil. Through our readings and researches carried out, we don't know any work analyzing the work of Verger under this perspective. We intend to proced an critic academic analyses contributing for specific literature and understand the contained presupposed in an author that became a reference to African brazilian studies and for religious people generally speaking. / Mestre
