The Trump Effect : A Case-Study of Immediate Stock Market Reactions to the President’s Company-specific Twitter Mentions

Palmlöv, Andreas January 2018 (has links)
This thesis investigates how the U.S President’s Twitter mentions of individual companies’ investment announcements influence the short-term price of their stock. By assuming that the President’s comments on a company’s plans should be incorporated by markets as new information, testing the Efficient Market Hypothesis assumption that the markets incorporate all new information, the thesis seeks to contribute to a new, unexplored and growing, research field. This thesis utilizes a qualitative analysis method, studying Twitter mentions on the topic of Trump’s Tax Reform. The data in this thesis is derived from the President’s personal Twitter-account, company announcements, stock price charts, and the Standard & Poor’s S&P500 Index. To conclude, this study finds that although the President’s Twitter comments may signal his public approval of a company and its plans, it appears that any market reaction is only short-term, and that as the market incorporates additional information it returns to an informed state in terms of stock valuations. This study suggests that there are few observable indicators that Trump’s positive mentions on Twitter causes any significant market reaction.

AVALIAÇÃO DA VULNERABILIDADE EM ÁREAS DE RISCO: UM ESTUDO DE CASO DA VILA SCHIRMER, SANTA MARIA, RS. / AT RISK AREAS OF VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT: A CASE STUDY OF SCHIRMER VILLAGE, SANTA MARIA, RS.

Cardias, Marcia Elena de Mello 18 January 2016 (has links)
The Municipal Plans Risk Reduction address a number of technical and management guidelines that allow municipal public authorities to disaster risk reduction. The methodology of evaluation of vulnerability in these instruments only considers sóciourbanísticas variables, however, it is known that the understanding of the social and cultural variables are fundamental to consolidate and organize groups aiming to plan more lasting resilience strategies. This research aims to: assess the vulnerability in risk areas of Vila Schirmer, city of Santa Maria / RS, considering the sóciourbanísticas, social and structural and socio-cultural components. The methodological procedures involved literature review, field work to update the risk zoning and application of semi-structured questionnaires in the risk of housing and comparison sector, out of it. In 2006, there were 26 homes at risk of flooding or landslides in the village, were currently identified 21 new housing which means an increase of 91%. The Sóciourbanísticas components showed that the risk sectors constructive standard of housing is lower than in the comparison, the streets are dirt, there is garbage in the yards of houses and streets and open sewers, setting a more precarious urban infrastructure. The socio-structural components show that the risk sectors families are more numerous, poorly educated, often with informal jobs, where the monthly income is also very low. Already Sociocultural components showed that the risk population has a network of "weak" sociability and as a result has little support from their peers, and limited participation in decision-making regarding risk communities. What is realized in this study was the gap between state vision, based exclusively on the technical aspects of disasters and experiences, sociocultural risk areas residents. So that effectively the risk mappings are put into practice is necessary that along with the technique is contemplated social.

We discussed in this study the symbolic building architecture that have made the symbolic image of the president João Pessoa, after his murder, he became a myth in the political and social scenario. Thus, our claim is to contribute to the production, movement and perception history of João Pessoa s symbolic image. This research documentary corpus were the local and other states newspapers that publicized the news of his death and the celebrations of the hundredth anniversary of his birth in 1978. We also worked with the mausoleum built at Palácio da Redenção gardens, and as well as with João Pessoa s last photo, taken in Recife, minutes before his death, widespread among the population. The central focus of our problematization were the various forms of this historic event dissemination and its perpetuation that involved the local and other states press, historians, memoirists and biographers of him, as well as official departments, the creation of memory places that together constituted the historic culture of death and nearly immortality of him, and after considered saint, hero and martyr.

Barth, Luís Fernando Barnetche January 2006 (has links)
Case Study is a common method used in psychological and psychiatric research. Freud, when creating Psychoanalysis, followed this model and presented case studies from psychoanalytic treatments or written papers, but offering an close connection between the observed symptoms and the history of the patients sufferings. Developing an specific type of psychoanalytic intervention called “construction”, Fédida proposes a “Case construction” that is related to a supervision of the case under treatment. When analyzing in Psychoanalysis such issues as memory, fiction, the “trait of the case” device, the author of this Thesis studies the data collection by the analyst-researcher and its subsequent transformation in a meta-psychological case to be published. The study is based in readings of Daniel Paul Schreber’s “Memories of my nervous illness”, in Sigmund Freud’s “Psycho-Analytic notes upon an autobiographical account of a case of paranoia (Dementia paranoides)” and in Jacques Lacan’s contributions in “A preliminary question about any possible treatment of psychosis”. The author suggests the consideration of a “Metapsychological Case Construction” as a writing method for the case in its fictional side, that departing from the figuration brought by the patient to the treatment, receives a transfiguration of the fantasy from the psychoanalyst which guaranties its intelligibility. For the author, the published case always belongs to the analyst.

Vyjednávání o exekutivní koalici po parlamentních volbách v roce 2017 v České republice / Negotiations on the executive coalition after parliamentary elections in 2017 in the Czech Republic

Kornetová, Kateřina January 2019 (has links)
This thesis deals with the political situation in the Czech Republic since the parliamentary elections in October 2017 till the successful vote on the government's confidence in July 2018. It focuses specifically on the relations between the political parties, the reasons for refusing cooperation with the winner of the elections, and the motives for a participation on the executive coalition. Emphasis is placed on the parliamentary actors who have fundamentally influenced the emergence of the government. Furthermore, the work clarifies the social environment and important events during the period that was related to the coalition negotiations. At the same time, the text focuses on the role of the President in the formation of the government. Since he is the first directly elected president, the thesis tries to answer the question whether there are visible differences between the two previous indirectly elected presidents of the Czech Republic and current president Miloš Zeman. The thesis also examines the breadth of presidential powers over the government and seeks a possible overrun of powers. The main objective of the work is to verify whether the president extends his power beyond the constitution. For this purpose is uses the comparison of realities with the Constitution of the Czech Republic,...

Imperiální prezidentství v USA / Imperial Presidency in the United States

Sedlák, Roman January 2013 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is the Imperial Presidency. Arthur Schlesinger is the author of this term in the realm of Political Science. His book was a reaction to the gradual accretion of political power in the office of the President of the United States. Imperial Presidency is described by variables: a) The President overreaches his powers given to him by the Constitution of the USA; b) The President is not limited by other branches of power. The theories behind this thesis are called the unilateral action theory and the unitary presidency theory. After designating variables in the thesis we should be able to answer the question: "What kind of political behaviour describes imperial presidency?"
