The strategies of Portuguese Restauration embassies in France (1641-1649)

Pimenta Oliveira de Carvalho, Daniel 30 November 2018 (has links)
This thesis studies the relationships between diplomatic activities and the publication of books, journals, and pamphlets in the mid-17th century in the context of the initial development of Portuguese Restauration diplomacy in France. It is about examining in detail the goals, field of action, and initiatives of the new monarch’s representatives who intervene in the circulation of political information and in the world of books and typography workshops, giving exclusive attention to the circumstance of the first mission sent to Paris in 1641 and to some aspects of actions of the following embassies, until the return to Lisbon of the Marquis of Niza’s delegation in 1649.It will be possible, firstly, to distinguish a series of circumstances and publications prior to the arrival of the Portuguese envoys and then observe visits and contacts that they establish in France, as well as all kind of daily occupations linked to the diffusion of information, writing, and the circulation of hand-written and printed pieces. This narrower time scale will allow, in addition, investigations on the literary, rhetorical, and informational practices that were part of the editorial landscape found in France by John IV’s agents. All these studies contribute to a meticulous reading of discursive and material elements present in the publications that the embassy produced, or had hoped to incentivize, with the goal of reconstituting as much as possible the intentions of its writers and editors, or even the most immediate reflections and reactions that these publications could arouse in readers and in a substantial part of French society.

Développement par procédé d'impression jet d'encre de composants électroniques métalliques souples / Development of inkjet printing method for flexible metal electronic components

Barral, Geoffrey 01 February 2018 (has links)
The flexible electronics used in RFID and RFID and NFC technologies is now a booming market and demand is growing exponentially each year. Many applications are possible, such as RFID antennas and transparent conductors. To meet this demand, it is necessary to offer a low-cost manufacturing technology. Today antennas are manufactured in R2R (Roll to Roll) by subtractive methods and at high cost and generating waste. The methods of printing, which are additive, allow today to realize objects on demand. The aim of this thesis is to develop a breakthrough technology compared to the existing one. The current developments are predominantly done thanks to silver nanoparticles, the strategy of thethesis was to develop a metallizable primer (catalytic ink) for metallization by chemical means (electroless copper). In this study we will see the different steps that allowed us to select the appropriate polymer for chemical metallization, at low temperature and optimize its grafting as well as its incorporation in a complete formulation of catalytic ink. Different proofs of concepts have been obtained thanks to the technology developed by inkjet. The metallization electroless makes it possible to obtain a resistivity of 1.8 μΩ.cm and a very good adhesion on the inexpensive flexible substrates and weak point of glass transition polymer such as PET and PVC. The temperature of the metallization process does not exceed 50 °C.

Media form and ESL students’ comprehension : A comparative study between audiobooks and printed text

Andrén, Kim January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to investigate how the choice of media form, i.e. printed format, audiobook or reading and audio combined, affect the ability of ESL students to achieve comprehension, and how different ways of asking questions can affect their comprehension ability. Lastly, the study aims to investigate the relationship between comprehension and students’ proficiency levels in their L2. To answer this question, 155 students were recruited and divided into three groups and assigned one type of media form. The quantitative data was collected through an online comprehension test and analysed. The results showed a significant difference between the media forms and revealed that printed reading was superior. However, a printed and audio combination was the most time efficient way for students to achieve comprehension, which indicates that the inclusion of audio does not impede student learning. Previous research in the same field shows that the results are inconclusive, but shares one common conclusion, that students enjoy the audio format. As a result, the educational system should make every effort to media choices for students to choose their preferred media, and more research in the field needs to be done, as students enjoyment leads to increased learning.
