Nothing to Do with Us? : Making Sense of Global Wealth Inequality / Inget med oss att göra? : Komma underfund med globala inkomstskillnader

Larsson, Carl January 2020 (has links)
This design project takes the form of an illustrated story told from the perspective of a young adult middle-class Swede who feels uncertainty in the face of larger issues in the world. Where do all our stuff come from? Is he buying unethical products? Is he actively making a situation worse elsewhere through his choices? How would you even know, when the consequences of such actions might only become evident far, far away from Sweden? How do you relate to this? What should you do? As the protagonist wants for answers, he decides to try and find out what the situation is really like, and what could be done about it. But, as he would soon find out, the answer is not a simple one… In this work-in-progress story, a middle-class Swede must contend with the fact that he’s part of a subset of humanity that in large part benefits off of the thankless work that may be found in the so-called Global South. In his investigation, he seeks to find answers to important questions. What’s the nature of this economic relationship between the Global South and the Global North? Is it really enough to buy ‘more sustainable’ products to relieve the impact on environments and societies? What are the hidden perspectives and stories that those in the Global South experience every day? How can one try to be a good person and create positive change in the world when faced with overwhelming systemic issues on a global scale? Through the story, the nature of global wealth disparity is illuminated as the Swede tries to make sense of global power relationships in relation to labor and production, and so too offers a reader who may be having similar worries an opportunity to learn. As uncomfortable truths are revealed, a greater systemic issue becomes evident. As economic growth takes precedence over social and environmental wellbeing, who wins and who loses – and where? This is the written thesis section of the project, which seeks to elaborate on the different concepts included in the story, as well as surrounding it. Aspects such as the purpose of the project and target audience are gone over, emphasizing the need to communicate complex subjects to wider audiences while avoiding the act of oversimplification of the issues presented. The methodology of the work is presented, and aspects of the design process are documented. The project cumulates into a digital exhibition with other design students, where a work-in-progress version of the comic book is presented digitally for reading. The end of the thesis features a reflection of the result and the design process in order to identify where improvements could be made, as well as the answers the author of this thesis found in relation to the project questions. In summary, there seem to be an indication that working collectively as opposed to individually may be more effective towards creating positive change, in opposition to individual-focused solutions. Finding appropriate solutions to issues may not have to be found immediately, but may be found through a process affected by several different people in a collective that are able to contribute with their differing skills and knowledge to locate the most appropriate path forward. / <p>Here is an updated version, using the template of the front page that was suggested.</p>

Voltametrie s předřazenou extrakcí jako nový přístup pro rychlé stanovení formaldehydu v dřevěných výrobcích / Voltammetry with Preliminary Extraction as a New Approach for Rapid Determination of Formaldehyde in Wood-Based Products

Dvořák, Pavel January 2020 (has links)
The aim of the presented Diploma Thesis was to develop a new method for the indirect determination of formaldehyde in wood-based products using gas-diffusion microextraction coupled with electrochemical detection on unmodified screen-printed electrodes (MLEM-SPCE). Formaldehyde released from the sample is derivatized using an acetylacetone reagent present in an acceptor solution. The product of derivatization of formaldehyde with acetylacetone is 3,5-diacetyl-1,4-dihydrolutidine (DDL) which forms a selective oxidation voltammetric peak at a potential of 0.4 V. Detection and quantification limits of 0.57 mg kg−1 and 1.89 mg kg−1 , respectively, were obtained, together with intra- and inter-day precision below 10% (as relative standard deviation, RSD). The developed methodology was applied to determine formaldehyde content in seven samples. Similar results were obtained from the European standard method EN 717-3 with a significant reduction of total analysis time. The developed method MLEM-SPCE, which combines the use of a new sample preparation procedure for volatile compounds with the firstly introduced determination of formaldehyde (as the derivative product DDL) on unmodified SPCEs, proves to be a promising alternative for the determination of formaldehyde in wood-based products and other samples.

Skogsbränderna 2018: Lokala hjältar och ett nationellt problem : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av gestaltningar i rapporteringen av skogsbränderna 2018 i nationell- och lokal press.

Nordberg, Nadja, Isaksson, Clara January 2020 (has links)
The summer of 2018 has gone down in history as one of the hottest summers in Sweden of all time. The forest was on fire in several places around the country and in retrospect, the fires have been described as the most extensive forest fires in Sweden in modern times. The purpose of this essay is to investigate the framing of the forest fires in both local and national press. The method we chose to conduct the survey was a quantitative content analysis of a total of 116 articles about the forest fires, 74 from the local newspapers Ljusdals-Posten and Mora Tidning, and 41 from the national newspapers Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet. The results of the study showed that there were major differences in the reporting and framing of the forest fires between the local newspapers and the national newspapers. The local newspapers had a much greater focus on proximity in their reporting compared to the nationwide newspapers which focused much more on threats and conflicts. The result also showed that the local newspapers had a much more positive tonality in their reporting, unlike the nationwide newspapers which were predominantly negative.

Tryckt barnlitteratur och digital barnlitteratur : Förskollärares erfarenheter kring barns läsupplevelser vid högläsning / Printed Children’s Literature and Digital Children’s Literature : Preschool Teachers’ Experiences of Children’s Reading Experiences when Reading Aloud

Gustafsson, Helen January 2021 (has links)
The aim of the study is to find out which experiences preschool teachers have of children´s reading experience when reading aloud in print and digital children´s literature. Also, which opportunities and limitations preschool teachers believe that print and digital children´s literature has. The method I used in the survey was interviews with five preschool teachers.  The result indicate that children can achieve different forms of reading experience in different ways. It was also revealed which purpose the reader has with the reading activity also affects the outcome of the reading experience. What time of the day and how preschool teachers plan the reading aloud activities varies, but when it comes to which opportunities and limitations the two reading tools have than the preschool teachers experience was quite the same. In conclusion, it turned out that the purpose of the reading aloud activities and the reader´s empathy and commitment affect the children´s reading experience more than the selection of reading tool.

Pantzare, Susanna, Granbom, Klara January 2022 (has links)
RISE, the Research Institutes of Sweden, has a project called IoTLow Energy which aims to develop low energy sensors incombination with artificial intelligence. The aim of this thesis wasto produce a digital design for an encapsulation of electronics for asystem consisting of a sensor node and a central unit. The sensornode is connected to a force measuring shoe sole, where registereddata can be sent wirelessly to the central unit, which is connectedto a smartphone where measured data can be read. This has beendone through methods such as risk analysis, function analysis, technical specification and a selection from a classic design processas handmade sketches, brainstorming, analysis of the surroundingworld and digital sketches. The process has taken place in parallelwith the project at RISE, which has offered freedom in how thesystem could be designed. The dimensions of the electronic wereprovided by RISE, with the possibility to construct it according tothe design of the encapsulations. The work did not aim to producea finished product, but the final digital design documents consistof rendered CAD models in a studio environment and photos ofthe system in a real environment.

Improving jet printing quality for printed circuit boards : Optimizing first dot jetting deposition through experimental design and response surface methodology

Hedlund, William, Sjöberg, Gustav January 2023 (has links)
Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are essential components in various electronic devices, playing a vital role in their functionality. Over time, PCBs have evolved significantly, becoming smaller, more complex, and multi-layered to meet the demands of advancing technology and consumer preferences. The quality of solder paste deposits is measured by circularity, volume, positioning, and the number of satellites. Mycronic is a supplier of jet printing machines for PCB manufacturers and needs to investigate and counteract an unwanted variation in volume and positioning within the first dot of the solder paste strip, and its so-called “sea saw” effect for the following three dots.  This master’s thesis has two aims. The first aim is to develop and evaluate an experimental method to reduce variation between the dots in the strip. The second aim is to reduce the variation between the 1st dot and the following three dots by finding a combination of pre-feed, first, second, and third waveforms to obtain improved precision, volume, circularity, and reduced volume variation. Using an experimental design a full factorial design was used, examining six experimental factors. The design was further augmented with a central composite design to describe the second-order model. The knowledge from the experiment was used to optimize and improve the quality factors of jet printing, which were verified with an additional experiment. The results of the study provided compelling evidence that only the selected experimental factors had a significant impact on improving the volume metric. It was observed that the presence or absence of satellites during the experiment did not have any effect on the results, and neither did the positioning and circularity factors contribute to any improvement or deterioration. Specifically, the most significant difference in volume between 1st and following three dots for the optimized solution is 0.5 nl, and the currently used settings have a difference of 2.65 nl. The experimental approach employed in this master's thesis holds excellent promise for Mycronic, as it paves the way for the future development of piezo-actuation profiles (i.e. specific settings for the jet printer). The potential contributions to the industry are significant, particularly in terms of advancing the methodology for investigating and enhancing the quality metrics of piezo-actuation profiles through experimental means. This research opens up new avenues for Mycronic to refine its printing processes and improve overall print quality, ultimately leading to better outcomes for their customers.

Ověření čtenářských dovedností při čtení tištěného a digitálního textu u dětí mladšího školního věku / Examination of reading skills in reading printed or digital text by children of younger school age.

Marková, Kateřina January 2022 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on examination of reading skills in reading printed or digital text from screen by children in elementary school age. Ever younger readers are encountering digital reading at the beginning of the development of their reading skills. Therefore, this work aims to map the effect of screen reading and the differences in the processing and the text comprehension as opposed to printed text. The theoretical part describes the psychological aspects of reading based on Czech and foreign sources. Further, this part summarizes the findings of reading digital text from screen, in particular the factors that affect such reading, its advantages and disadvantages and the processes during this reading. A separate chapter is devoted to reading from the screen by school-age children who were subsequently probands of the research part. The empirical part deals with the verification of several hypotheses. These hypotheses verify differences in reading of printed and digital text of the same difficulty. Proband are elementary school pupils aged 8-10 (n=93, girls n=48, boys n=46). Z. Matějček's Reading Exam was chosen as a method for verifying reading skills, which makes it possible to evaluate the dynamics of reading competencies such as performance in error rate, speed, and comprehension...
