Segredos de arquivo: etiqueta social e cotidiano nas cartas de amor de Francisco para Maria (1922-1937) / File Secrets: social etiquette and daily life in the love letters of Francisco to Maria (1922-1937)

Maristela Bleggi Tomasini 13 December 2017 (has links)
Personal archives, because of the abundance of information they contain, because of their diversity, complexity and intimate character give rise to interdisciplinary considerations, from a historical, social, archival, linguistic, and literary perspective. This research deals with letters of love written in the 1920s and 1930s, belonging to the personal archive of an ordinary person, and aims to contribute to a better understanding of private archives. Starting from an introduction to the subject, an interdisciplinary approach is taken to the personal archives and the units that compose them in the first two chapters. The specific objectives are to present a study of letters, in this case the Franciscan epistolary, in the third chapter, exploring after the themes social etiquette and daily life in the two final chapters. The methodology used consisted of a qualitative and exploratory approach of the bibliographical references, with reproduction of images of units of the Lysia archive, a personal archive, as well as excerpts of the letters searched that, throughout the text, are placed in perspective of bibliographical references used, searching for pertinences and connections. Images of the letters whose excerpts were transcribed in the tables are reproduced integrally in the annex of this research, in the second volume, in the same order as they appear in the text.

Preservando a memória da ciência brasileira: os arquivos pessoais de professores e pesquisadores da Universidade de São Paulo / Preserving the memory of brazilian science: the personal archives from teachers and researchers of the University of São Paulo

José Francisco Guelfi Campos 10 July 2014 (has links)
A pesquisa busca responder a tal questão. O trabalho deverá subsidiar, a curto e médio prazo, a formulação de uma política memorial compatível com a importância da Universidade de São Paulo / Over their functional life at the University of São Paulo (USP), researchers and professors work on the fields of teaching and scientific investigation, also mounting up management positions. These activities generate a rich source of documents usually kept in their offices and laboratories. However, what happens to such documentation when they leave the academic staff? This study aims to answer this question. By recognizing the relevance and the informational potential of such archives repositories of not only the individual memory of their creators, but also of the university itself and, by extension, of Brazilian scientific life , and by facing the various operations of archives preservation developed by USP colleges and institutes without following common guidelines or frameworks, our purpose is to map the existence of such documentation in the different campuses of the University of São Paulo, characterizing their conditions of access and preservation. The result to be achieved is double-faced: on the one side, we aim to elaborate a guide, adopting the framework of the archival literature on finding aids elaboration; on the other side, we aim to diagnose the circumstances of acquisition, custody and treatment to which the documents were submitted. This study should provide subsidies for the creation, in short and medium term, of a memorial policy compatible with the importance of the University of São Paulo

Getting personal: confronting the challenges of archiving personal records in the digital age

Bass, Jordan Leslie 26 March 2012 (has links)
Personal digital records are one of the most underrepresented areas of archival theory and practice. Documentary forms created by private persons have long been victim of a poverty of professional attention, and much of the literature on the appraisal and preservation of records has tended to focus on those generated by government and other organizational entities. And strategies developed for the archival management of digital records have similarly placed strong emphasis on business functions or corporate transactions as the primary unit of analysis. This scholastic deficit has severely impaired the ability of the archivist to comprehend and effectively meet the many challenges of archiving personal records in the digital age. This thesis demonstrates how investigations of the original context of creation and use of records in contemporary personal computing environments are integral to the development of comprehensive strategies for the capture and preservation of personal digital archives. It is within these digital domains that archivists come to see cultures of personal recordkeeping, private appraisal decisions based on unique designations of value, and the complexities of both online and offline personal digital preservation strategies. A keen understanding of how individuals create and preserve their digital records across time and space should be of the utmost importance to archivists for, if nothing else, these pre-custodial activities are the principal sites of archival provenance. Chapter one discusses past and present responses to both paper-based and electronic personal archives. The discussion begins with the definition of the personal record as essentially non-archival by early leading archival theorists and how these definitions, though first advanced in the early to mid-twentieth century, continue to find resonance in contemporary archival ideas and institutional mandates. This chapter then illustrates how ideas predicated on the management of electronic government records, and metadata standards developed for formalized electronic recordkeeping systems, are not easily transposed to personal domains. Chapter two takes a critical look at the often oversimplified personal digital archiving environment to expose the many nuances in the context of creation and use of records by individuals in the digital era. Chapter three explores a number of emerging approaches to the professional archiving of personal digital records and reveals how the proper management of these materials requires multiple hardware and software applications, concise acquisition strategies and preservation methodologies, and diligent front-end work to ensure personal digital records cross the threshold of archival repositories. The thesis concludes with a summary of the main arguments and collates the best ideas, approaches, and technologies reviewed throughout to propose a hypothetical strategy for archiving personal digital records in the present. This thesis argues that significantly more work with records creators earlier in the record creation process must be done when archiving personal digital records because more proactive measures are required to capture and preserve these materials than was previously the case with paper-based or analog documentary forms.

Selma and Astrid. : Arrangement and principles for two central personal archives at the National Library of Sweden 2020.

Ryberg, Ella January 2020 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is that, from a postmodern archival theoretical perspective, investigate how two personal archives after famous authors Selma Lagerlöf and Astrid Lindgren are arranged, described and presented at KB, the National Library of Sweden. The thesis investigates what constructed image the collections presents, who the supposed user of the archives is, how the collections are accessible and their role as important sources within the humanities research. The study involved the collections digital archive presentations and four different texts that all discuss the archives. The method chosen was qualitative research methodology and critical discourse theory. The analysis included a study of the level of text, discursive practice and social practice. The results showed that specific usage of language and words have a vast impact on the construction of the narrative. Both postmodern archival theory and critical discourse theory enables the exposition of the relations of power and ideology that these discursive and social practices hold. This leads to the conclusion that the majority of knowledge are socially constructed and that archives holds power by promoting one narrative over another. In personal archives this also plays a big role in the construction of identity and in identity politics.

Força Expedicionária Brasileira e seu lugar no patrimônio documental brasileiro: identificando arquivos / Brazilian Expeditionary Force and its importance as documental heritage: identifying archives

Rocha, Cristal Magalhães da 05 April 2016 (has links)
The official documents which document the Brazilian participation in the IIWW as Brazilian Expeditionary Force are spread in several institutions around Brazil. In addition to the officials documents we also have the personal archive from the veterans. This paper will try to identify the main institutions which keep the documents about Brazilian Expeditionary Force. It will also give a theoretical, cultural and historical panorama about this time. The main goal of the paper is to show how important the documents are to Brazilians history and the importance as a document. Lately it will try to show the political context and performance from Brazilian Expeditionary Force, the time in Italy and the demobilization. This paper was written with an archivist point of view, where the documents come in the first position. You can find several pictures which are very important examples about Brazilian performance during the IIWW.
