Utváření jihočeské paměti v pojetí F. M. Čapka / Formation of the south bohemian memory in the conception by F. M. Čapek

This work is a contribution to the concept of memory location in the Czech historiography. The main person is František Miroslav Čapek, native from a little town Lišov, near České Budějovice, which dedicated most of his life for research on the South Bohemian history. During his life he wrote several books, but also he done many deeds, which he memorized the South Bohemian people. This work was written on the basis studying of the professional literature, personal fond by F. M. Čapek and especially a book production by this amateur historian. This work is devided, among the introduction and the end, to three chapters. The first chapter is explaining the most important terms and concepts, the second one introduces life F. M. Čapek and the third, finaly part, focused on the analysis concepts his memory, especially in book production and performed deeds.

Situating Migrants in Contemporary Japan: From Public Spaces to Personal Experiences

Within the broader literature on migration, Japan is often portrayed as straddling two categories, one of a homogenous country and another of a multicultural society. The arguments on both sides are supported through the historical evidence, analysis of media resources, as well as narratives of Japanese residents. This inquiry seeks to highlight voices of migrants within these debates. This dissertation focuses on the urban – rural residential experiences of international migrants in Kanto and Tohoku regions. This inquiry treats international migration processes in terms of moving between the contexts of different countries as well as between urban – rural locations. These global – local experiences of migrants are set within broader milieu of the social and spatial stratifications created through neoliberal competition. The theoretical framework for this analysis is based on post-structural understandings of identity, migration, and economy. This study draws on qualitative methods, including, ethnographic data, interviews, content and textual analysis of job advertisements, as well as cognitive mapping. These sources allow us to create a unique portrait of migrant subjectivity that pulls from different contexts of fluid, spatial identities which mediate migrants’ interpretations of living and working in neoliberal Japan. The findings of this dissertation support the thesis that intersectional social identities such as gender, ethnicity, and social class, have a spatial component.

Been There Together is a single player game in an online and offline form of cards inspired by event scores. The game is designed to be played by individuals in public spaces, while they are surrounded by strangers. It serves as a pretext for social inclusion. The game can be played online, as a mobile phone application and as a DIY card game for download. The game was designed as an alternative to mobile games, and instead of pulling the player into a virtual reality, it encourages their perception of society and the surroundings. By providing challenges, context and aesthetic pleasure, it creates an exciting experience that contrasts with ordinary daily activities. Its purpose is to overcome the individual's alienation in society. By simple questions and tasks, the player is drawn into a magic circle of play in reality, in areas that are not normally intended for play. It creates a temporary world in the midst of an ordinary world, transforming everyday experience and the individual's perception of public spaces. The game is inspired by Fluxus group's "event scores" as well as by the Situationist International's concept of "dérive", a method of unplanned journeying through urban landscapes. The player can choose between 4 difficulty levels and decide which intensity of play they prefer. Its unobtrusive design allows the player to play the game without noticeably changing their behaviour in public, and it is entirely their decision if they want to admit that they are playing the game to bystanders. Thanks to the guise of a game, the player feels safe to interact with a stranger, to ask for help or to ask questions of people whom they are encountering for the first time. The game creates real social interaction, with legal and economic consequences that reach beyond the magic circle.

- Libraries are institutions of learning - They represent the cultural heritage and values of a society. Public libraries are often located at places of urban significance or, in the course of time help to establish the latter. They may be landmarks in the urban landscape and help to orient oneself. A public library serves the people, and its spirit should be truly public. A City and University Library in particular, is a highly frequented place where students and citizens meet. It can therefore easily become more than just a place for obtaining information. It can become a place for human interaction, offering spaces to enjoy a concert, to exhibit art or to go there to have lunch or dinner. In that sense, it could be transformed from an institution which is usually used during the day into a vital place which is also used in the evening and on the weekend. The following project pursues the notion of breaking with the traditional image of a public library, expanding its service and thus increasing its position as a place of public interest. This notion is a result of my thesis work, rather than the initial idea from which I started. The location of the project at the edge of the university campus in Frankfurt, Germany and the existence of a theater next to the existing library offered the possibility of establishing a cultural meeting place in one of Frankfurt's city districts. / Master of Architecture

This qualitative study explores the factors influencing safety and security in Ersboda from the perspective of individual residents. By focusing on the thoughts and experiences of seven inhabitants, the aim is to gain deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the area. Safety and security are vital elements in creating an environment where residents can live and thrive without fear or worry. Considering these aspects, the study seeks to enhance understanding of how quality of life in Ersboda can be improved. Additionally, the research aims to delve into the social dynamics and perceived safety within the community. Through qualitative methods such as interviews, the study provides a platform for residents to express their views, experiences, and concerns, which can inform and shape future efforts to enhance safety and security in Ersboda.  Drawing on qualitative interviews with residents, the study reveals a significant variation in opinions regarding safety and security in the area, highlighting the subjective and complex nature of these concepts. While some respondents view safety as a feeling of freedom and stability, others emphasize the importance of actual protective measures such as police presence and surveillance cameras. Commonly, residents stress the significance of community spaces and social connections in fostering a sense of security. Additionally, the study explores the prevalence of social unrest, particularly among youth, and its impact on the perceived safety of the neighborhood. The findings underscore the role of technology, media representation, and community collaboration in addressing safety concerns. Overall, the study offers insights into the multifaceted nature of safety and security in Ersboda and provides recommendations for enhancing community well-being and safety measures.
