A percepção do lugar / The perception of place

Nhamona, Elídio Miguel Fernando 14 December 2009 (has links)
This dissertation aims at showing how the perception of place manifests itself in Trajectórias e Clima, as well as in the poems O Diabo, Seara Nova and Mundo literário. If networks are established in the poetic enunciation, we are therefore in the presence of a poetics of relation. Through the themes, we compare and contrast Mendes poetry with O amanuense Belmiro - Cyro dos Anjos; Mensagem - Fernando Pessoa and Sangue Negro - Noémia de Sousa.

Caron Belzile, Camille 05 1900 (has links)
Throughout the essay component of this master’s thesis, Paul Ricoeur’s theoretical approaches regarding the narrative form will be juxtaposed with those of Édouard Glissant regarding the emergence of a « poetics of relation », understood as the poetic deployment of an imaginary realm based on the relation to the other, without fear of dilution. My corpus consists of three key texts in Quebec travel literature: Jacques Cartier’s Relations, Lahontan’s Dialogues avec un Sauvage, and Jacques Poulin’s Volkswagen Blues. The relation to the other, at the heart of the stories in those three texts will permit the analysis of the progress of a literature, but also that of a culture of the Relation in Quebec. In the novel Vers Sagana, Rose and Yann decide upon their first meeting to travel together, while both at loss for reference points. In a context of the resurgence of the dispossession process related to the American history ever since its genesis, the voices of the characters mingle to give shape to the obsession with ever-elusive roots.

Rethinking the Historical Lens: A Case for Relational Identity in Sandra Cisneros's The House on Mango Street

Wiggins, Annalisa 08 November 2008 (has links) (PDF)
My thesis proposes a theory of relational identity development in Chicana literature. Gloria Anzaldua's Borderlands/La Frontera offers an interpretation of Chicana identity that is largely based on historical models and mythology, which many scholars have found useful in interpreting Chicana literature. However, I contend that another text, Sandra Cisneros's The House on Mango Street, not only illustrates the need for an alternative paradigm for considering identity development, but in fact offers such an alternative. I argue that Cisneros shows a model for relational identity development, wherein the individual develops in the context of her community and is not determined solely by elements of myth or genealogy. In questioning the historical paradigm of identity development, I examine three key aspects associated with Chicana identity development: gender, home, and language. Employing the theories of Édouard Glissant, I discuss how individual identity development is better understood in terms of relationships and experience rather than historical models. For Chicanas, the roles of women have largely been interpreted as predetermined, set by the mythic figures La Malinche and La Virgen de Guadalupe. However, Cisneros's work shows that this historical tradition is less fruitful in understanding identity than recognizing individuals' experience in context of their relationships. With this communal understanding established, I question the common associations of home and Chicana identity. I argue that Cisneros challenges our very concept of home as she engages and counters the notions of theorist Gaston Bachelard. The idea of a house is metaphorical, becoming a space of communal belonging rather than a physical structure to separate individuals. Finally, I consider how both spoken and written language contribute to relational identity development. I argue that Cisneros's use of language demonstrates that not only does language provide the means for development within a community, but also the means for creation within that society. The theoretical implications of such a relational identity construct are not only an expansion of what is entailed in Chicana identity, but an invitation for broadening the community of theoretical discussion surrounding Chicana literature.

We don't listen to the song of the world anymore

Ulriksson, Tanja January 2022 (has links)
In this paper I am asking the question about the European human values and their effect on philosophy and thought through three different philosophers. What I want to examine is how we can get past thinking human subjects as constituted by the hierarchical and often oppositional differences that were installed by means of a normalizing universal with colonial roots. The essay begins with Nietzsche’s geneological account of how and when European philosophy began to disassemble itself from within, focusing on his idea of the need for a new man. Then I turn to Frantz Fanon and the decolonization of European thought and power, as one based on violence and hiererachy. Édouard Glissants poetics of Relation is then essential for thinking man today in the entangled, constantly changing world that we live in.
