Partindo de poetas e filósofos gregos, músicos e teóricos da Crítica Literária, pedagogos e pesquisadores contemporâneos, chegando a desembocar na MPB, como uma etapa das manifestações do Modernismo Brasileiro e, que pode ser vista ainda hoje como uma continuação da semana de 22: uma ruptura da cultura brasileira, uma ponte para não perder de vista nosso percurso literário. O texto perpassa a antiga e fecunda relação entre música e literatura, para nos inscrever no contexto dos discursos sobre o lugar que ocupa hoje a MPB no discurso literário. A Música Popular Brasileira , com recorte para o Tropicalismo, e destaque para Caetano Veloso e Gilberto Gil, além de valorizar o Som universal , busca associar a produção dos baianos à Poesia Concreta e situar esses movimentos no hall das legítimas vanguardas brasileiras . A pesquisa nos proporcionou uma visitação ao campo da Literatura e da Intersemiose. Nesta, apontando a importância da dialética música-literatura, essa relação entre os códigos que se imbricam imantados na letra das canções; naquela, os elementos caracterizadores que fizeram das canções de Caetano e Gil verdadeira manifestação de Vanguarda Poética. Ao utilizar a Música Popular Brasileira como agente facilitador do processo de ensino da leitura literária, tomamos as canções desses compositores-poetas, como uma porta de entrada para a poesia; esse novo espaço de leitura da Poesia Concreta

Esta tesis intenta comprobar la existencia actual del mester de juglaría en la provincia de Melipilla. Para la obtención de este objetivo central se ha puesto en práctica un método multidisciplinario etnográfico-literario-filológico, que comprende la hipótesis de trabajo, la cual guiara la investigación a dicho objetivo. En el primer capítulo se trata la problematización del concepto de mester de juglaría, con el necesario apoyo de una discusión bibliográfica. En el segundo se plantea el ámbito genérico de la conducta poética, constituido por la poesía literaria, la popular y la estrictamente folclórica, de cuya interrelación se desprende una manera de entender esta conducta en su globalidad. En el tercero, de carácter más específico que el de los anteriores, se dan a conocer la temática, la forma y la funcionalidad del arte juglaresco melipillano, con las ejemplificaciones de rigor. El cuarto capítulo concierne al oficio de juglar y al poder del cantor en la aludida provincia, con preeminencia de léxico técnico operativo entre los parámetros de este oficio. Se cierra el desarrollo de esta tesis con las Consideraciones Finales, que llevan a corroborar la consecución de objetivo central y del complementario, y a verificar la proposición de la hipótesis; añadiéndose, finalmente, las Referencias Bibliográficas.

[pt] Os significados da música popular: A revista Weco, revista de vida e cultura musical (1928-1931). Os estudos dedicados às manifestações musicais no Brasil têm apresentado freqüentemente um impasse sobre a aceitação da expressão música popular. Ao optarem pelo uso do conceito música popular, muitos historiadores correm o risco de entendê-la como uma manifestação cultural homogênea, produzida por um grupo social específico. Um risco maior é nomear como música popular, diferentes manifestações culturais que perpassam os tempos históricos. O objetivo deste trabalho é reconhecer um dos processos de produção de significados e valores para a expressão música popular, através de uma revista de música publicada entre 1928 e 1931, a Revista Weco. Musicistas e musicólogos constituíram a revista Weco como um espaço de debates sobre a situação da música no Brasil. Reagiram contra diferentes manifestações musicais e selecionaram aquilo que poderia ser chamado de música popular para a época. Uma análise dos projetos que informam a produção de sentido para a expressão música popular pretende discutir a relevância desta expressão como um conceito para os estudos de história da música. / [en] Weco magazine: the contribution about building a Brazilian popular music idea in the 20`s last years and the 30`s first years. The Brazilian musical manifestation`s research has been presenting frequently as a controversy about accept the expression popular music. When historians choose the term popular music, they could understand it as an homogeneous cultural manifestation produced by a specific social group. It should be a risk calling popular music every different cultural manifestations across the historical times. This work purposes to understand the expression popular music and recognize how one of those meaning processes. It has been done through a music magazine published between 1928 and 1931 - the Weco magazine. This magazine was a locus when Musicians and theories talked about music and the Brazilian music situation. They worked against different musical manifestations and selected which one could be Called popular music in that time. An analysis on that projects which informs the meaning of the popular music expression has been intended a discussion about the relevance of this expression as a history concept for the music research.

This thesis deals with two topics: macro-structurally speaking, the evolving and dynamic new patterns of commercial publishing over the internet where agents and institutions of commercial publishing have been repositioned in the digital Chinese literary field; micro-structurally speaking, the textual analysis of internet fiction prosumed by authors and readers to realise the collective desire of Chinese prosumers (producers and consumers). Together the two topics contribute to the study of the socio-cultural phenomenon of internet fiction in the transnational Chinese on-line literary sphere, especially in China. The internet promotes prosumption behaviour because prosumers are offered more autonomy. This autonomy helps to generate desire in prosumers by incessantly prosuming highly similar texts to reflect a growing Chinese individualisation. A textual analysis of the prosumed literary commodities will be conducted in order to comprehend the collective desire of general prosumers on the internet resulting from the prosumers’ literary autonomy. The approach to analysing the texts – prosumed commodities as the consequence of literary autonomy – is through psychoanalysis, which I believe is best suited to illuminate desire dwelling in the depths of the human mind. The production rates and consumption rates of various fiction genres from long-term statistics which I have collected from Qidian, the largest internet literary portal website based in China, provide the thesis with a standard by which to determine what types of works of fiction are popularly prosumed. The psychoanalytical approach will be applied for a deeper interpretation of these works to establish the reason for their popularity. Whilst internet fiction is being popularly prosumed and prosumers communicate with each other on an individual basis to spell out their desire, they use internet fiction as a channel to reflect their socio-cultural context through various fiction genres. Hence, by analysing the prosumers’ desire, this thesis also strives by means of textual analysis to go beyond interpreting individual desire to examine a symbiosis between prosumers and their socio-cultural environment. The discussion of the new business model of prosumption and the textual analysis of prosumed fiction are like the two sides of the same coin, where the new pattern of commercial publishing provides a mode in which Chinese prosumers are offered autonomy of production and consumption of literary commodities, whilst the prosumed literary commodities sustain the new pattern. Because of this reciprocal relationship, to research one without the other is likely to miss the whole picture of the socio-cultural phenomenon.

This thesis is a preliminary attempt to consolidate materials pertaining to Lau fish taxonomy (North Malaita, Solomon Islands). Data utilized come from two sources: those collected by Maranda and Maranda (1966-1968) and those collected by the author during a two-month field period (October-December 1975). Two approaches to the analysis of terminological systems are explored first. A general description of the Lau Taxonomic Universe follows in which the major components are indicated. The focus then shifts to a more detailed discussion of Lau Fish taxonomy. Material presented here takes three forms: (1) A comprehensive list of fish identified according to biological classifications. (2) A summary of data obtained from informants' Memory Lists of fish names. The problems of taxonomic inclusion and equivalence are considered. (3) A discussion of those data traditionally regarded as "Non-Taxonomic Terminology". Distinctive Features are then considered and some examples given. Upper Level Taxa are discussed first. Following this, the Features and Criteria for the classification of Lower Level Taxa are outlined. Estudando o processo da determinação na linguagem verificamos que as projeções imaginárias que se estabelecem nesse campo produzem os .efeitos de explicações (abstratas, gerais) para o discursos das lideranças, e de exemplificações (empíricas, concretas) para o discurso dos lavradores. Situadas no domínio dos "casos concretos", as falas dos lavradores passam como desprovidas de uma interpretação suficiente. Nota-se portanto uma relação de sobredeterminação de um discurso por outro. De outro lado, apesar dos conflitos presentes nessa relação - desde o confronto explícito. até as interferências mútuas que dividem a direção do discurso, obscurecendo a transparência da linguagem para o sujeito - é possível no entanto observar deslocamentos de sentidos e re-alojamentos do sujeito, de ambos os lados / Abstract: Not informed. / Mestrado / Mestre em Linguística

Thesis (M.F.A.) / Note: The author, Logan Ann (Lumm) Taylor, can be reached at logananntaylor@gmail.com. / The bombshell figure is nothing new— she has been a historical site of feminist discourse, both applauded and vilified for her position and influence within celebrity culture. In the post-feminist era in which we may now live, the bombshell has been reimagined in reaction to the ideologies of the post-feminist movement. She emphasizes the problematic aspects of this movement, but also finds agency and power within its confines. This study provides two examples of the modern day bombshell figure, Sofia Vergara and Angelina Jolie, and explores the facets of these women’s brand identity that further women’s advancement toward true equality as well as those facets that inhibit women’s ability to rise above objectification and limited perspectives of equality and feminist success. This study explores the complicated relationship between celebrities, their fans, and the societal constructs in which they operate, ultimately revealing two women who have updated previous models of femininity with an agency and empowered sensibility that could well be the future of feminist action and choice.

This thesis studies the effect of the difference of felt emotion versus expressed emotion on the rate of annoyance in western popular music. It consists of four experiments, the first of which looks at the general effect of the music and change of emotions. The second experiment looks at the effect of lyrics in songs on annoyance, the third at modality and loop type, and the fourth on rhythmic complexity. There is evidence found that points to a difference in felt versus expressed anger predicts an increase in the annoyance rating. The effect of the difference in happy ratings is not as consistent and depends on the song. Familiarity of the song had a slight effect on lowering the annoyance rating. Lyrics, modality, and loop type do not have a main effect on the rate of annoyance. The combination of faster tempos and simpler rhythms reduced annoyance ratings.
