Popularizing Philosophy Through Fiction and Popular Media: A Review and Analysis

Voss, Kellen 01 January 2006 (has links)
The primary purpose of my thesis is to present a sound method for rectifying the negative attitude toward philosophical writing that has lingered since its inception. Philosophy has rarely been appreciated outside of academic settings and I think that it is time for philosophers to try to deal effectively with this problem. My method for doing so involves rethinking the way in which philosophy is presented to the general public. More specifically, I ask philosophers to consider using fictional literature and other popular media to make their work more accessible to non-philosophers. My hope is that by making philosophy more popular, not only will philosophers be more respected in the community, but the public will also benefit from its method. My first chapter takes a quick look at the history of philosophy to see how philosophy has traditionally been presented. I claim that the traditional methods are part of the reason for philosophy's public image. My second chapter takes a closer look at how philosophical ideas may be translated into fiction. In the third chapter, I look to other disciplines to find new methods for promoting a particular discipline that have never been explored by philosophers. In the fourth chapter I argue that philosophy should be taught in early education because it is the best way to get students to appreciate philosophy and because it will help to improve the grim state of lower level education.

Processos seriais na música de Arrigo Barnabé : as oito canções do LP "Clara Crocodilo"

Silva, Andre Cavazotti e January 1993 (has links)
The use of serial procedures in the eight sdongs of the LP "Clara Crocodilo" by Arrigo Barnabé is surveyed in this thesis. An analytical study demonstrates thet the eight songs are serial, six being twelve-tone. This fact confirms the position of the composer as one who employs serial compositional techniques in Brazilian urban popular music. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the use of serial procedures is directly related to the sociological content of the lyrics, in wich the underground of the city of São Paulo in the Seventies is portrayed. This investigations demonstrates that the serial procedures used in "Clara Crocodilo" represent an affront to tonality, indicating the distortion and desintegration of the tonal center; in the same way, the lyrics portray human beings in their distorted and disintegrated state.

Garim, Eliane Cristina Rosalino January 2016 (has links)
The assumption that the theory and practice do not separate, and do not exist without the other, is born the desire to understand the relationships that involve the Network of Citizen Education - Recid while proposition for the construction of a Popular Project for Brazil. Aiming to understand the contradictions between state and society in the implementation and development of recid as a political organization and social network and ways found to overcome them; and specifically meet the proposed policy of the Citizen Education Network through popular education from its contradictions, and locate and analyze the key concepts of Network education proposal - recid those aspects that guarantee its sustainability, with the partner organizations. The methodology of triangulation, based on historical dialectic materialism and a composition of different data collection techniques, document analysis, theories and interviews with 13 educators and Network managers, produces práxicos findings into three categories: the pedagogical dimensions, organizational and policy. The contradictions between the little political intentionality of actions in the basic relationship - educators; between horizontality and verticality organizational; and, funding and public policy. The popular social movements constitute the social being of recid in contemporary times, a correlation hegemonizadas forces by the State and the citizens.
