Релятивизированная онтология семантики возможных миров и ее применимость к проблемам философии сознания : магистерская диссертация / Relativize ontology of possible-worlds semantics, and its applicability to the problems of the philosophy of mind

А., Guschin, I. A. January 2016 (has links)
Modern analytic philosophy can apply the possible-worlds semantics for the analysis of philosophical problems. The dissertation determines ontological basis for the possible-worlds semantics, so that it is fully applicable to the analysis of problems of the philosophy of consciousness, including the issue of the identity of consciousness and body. The analysis of relational and object methods for determining the ontology of possible-worlds semantics for objects and functions takes place, while the possibility consideres of determining the object method as a special case of relative method. The attitude of the reachability as a means of model of «relative» transitions between the possible worlds is the key to relational approach to the ontology of possible-worlds semantics. The dissertation formulates the logical system based on the assumption of incomplete comparison individual areas for the attitude of the reachability.

The factors that relate to the career maturity of school-going girls in Gauteng : a case study

Buys, Sulize 06 1900 (has links)
The first aim of this research was to identify the factors that relate to the career maturity of school-going girls and more specifically the factor positive possible selves. Secondly, the study aimed to measure the stability of the construct career maturity as learners progress from one grade to the next without any guidance intervention. The work of Super (1957), Crites (1969) and Langley (1988) formed the theoretical framework for the investigation of the contextual factors such as subject choice and career choice and the biological and psychological factors such as grade, self-efficacy, self-esteem, perceived and actual academic achievement and positive possible selves in relation to career maturity. Quantitative research that involved a cross-sectional and longitudinal research design was implemented. Career choice and self-esteem were the strongest predictors of career maturity Self-efficacy showed marginal significance and possible selves explained only 2% of the variance of the dependent variable career maturity. / Psychology of Education / M. Resultatiewe voorwerpe in Afrikaans / Objects of result in Afrikaans

Bothma, Mariana Theodora. 15 June 1995 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / Because of the variety of relationships which exist between transitive verbs and their objects, all direct objects are not comparable with one another. One class of object, however, which stands by itself and which is of considerable interest, is the OBJECT OF RESULT. Because of the particular relation which exists between object and transitive verb in resulting constructions, we have here an unique class of direct object. The resulting construction is therefore, in the first instance a relation construction. This specific relation between transitive verb and object is mainly determined by the presence of or absence of certain inherent distinctive characteristics by transitive verbs and which play a determining role in identifying OBJECTS OF RESULT. From this study it is also clear that there is a semantic value present in transitive verbs (that can combine with objects of result) which has not been observed or distinguished by lexicographers and grammarians until recently. / Language Education, Arts and Culture / M.A. (Afrikaans)

Aquinas se Quinque Viae as 'n holistiese beredenering

Ueckermann, Isabella Jacoba 06 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / Aquinas's five point argument for God's existence views creation as a holistic entity in which synthesis and creative influences are initiated through the interaction between minimal and maximal acts of being. These acts are represented by the per accidens and the per se respectively. Both these acts are fundamental acts which are crucial to the outcome of the argument for the existence of God. The creature who, because of his per accidens dependency, possesses minimal status, is elevated to a place of honour by participation in creation. Both the essence and esse of creatures have their origin in the pure esse of the maximal act of being (God). Maximal being, the efficient cause, grounds the similarity between itself and minimal acts of being. Both the per accidens and the per se have crucial roles to play in the verification of tbe argument. Should any one of these two elements be lacking, the argument would be invalid. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / M.A. (Wysbegeerte)

Logics of belief

Viljoen, Elizabeth 04 1900 (has links)
The inadequacy of the usual possible world semantics of modal languages when the meaning of 'belief' is attached to the modal operator is discussed. Three other approaches are then investigated. In the case of Moore's autoepistemic logic it becomes possible to compare an agent's beliefs to 'reality', which cannot be done directly in the possible world semantics. Levesque's semantics makes explicit in the object language the notion of 'this is all the information the agent has', which plays an important role in nonmonotonic reasoning. Both of these approaches deal with ideal reasoners. The third approach, Konolige's deduction model, is based on a semantics capable of describing the beliefs of one or more resourcebounded agents. Finally, the AGM postulates for belief revision are discussed. / Computer Science / M.Sc. (Computer Science)

Correlation Analysis of Retained Ratio and Retained Loss for Property Insurance

Unknown Date (has links)
Retention is a key element for the insurer to determine how much it wishes to retain for its own account for the risks it has written. This point is fundamental to carrying on the business of insurance and akin to the principle upon which insurance is based, namely the spreading of risks and sharing of losses. The risk of incurring a retained loss owning to inadequate retention, which would imperil financial objective even can affect the overall underwriting results and arise insolvency. This paper select data base of occurred loss distribution for the past three years to study the impact of different retained ratio and different type of reinsurance for performance. This paper shows that, the underwriting profit can be expected to increase when the retention increases precisely under the existing loss distribution model . This paper also discuss the related factors in deciding retention by correlation analysis.

By indirections find directions out : thinkable worlds in Abbott and Vonnegut

Faucher, Benoît 09 1900 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the interaction between literature and abstract thought. More specifically, it studies the epistemological charge of the literary, the type of knowledge that is carried by elements proper to fictional narratives into different disciplines. By concentrating on two different theoretical methods, the creation of thought experiments and the framing of possible worlds, methods which were elaborated and are still used today in spheres as varied as modal logics, analytic philosophy and physics, and by following their reinsertion within literary theory, the research develops the theory that both thought experiments and possible worlds are in fact short narrative stories that inform knowledge through literary means. By using two novels, Abbott’s Flatland and Vonnegut’s The Sirens of Titan, that describe extra-dimensional existence in radically different ways, respectively as a phenomenologically unknowable space and as an outward perspective on time, it becomes clear that literature is constitutive of the way in which worlds, fictive, real or otherwise, are constructed and understood. Thus dimensions, established through extensional analogies as either experimental knowledge or modal possibility for a given world, generate new directions for thought, which can then take part in the inductive/deductive process of scientia. By contrasting the dimensions of narrative with the way that dimensions were historically constituted, the research also establishes that the literary opens up an infinite potential of abstract space-time domains, defined by their specific rules and limits, and that these different experimental folds are themselves partaking in a dimensional process responsible for new forms of understanding. Over against science fiction literary theories of speculation that posit an equation between the fictive and the real, this thesis examines the complex structure of many overlapping possibilities that can organise themselves around larger compossible wholes, thus offering a theory of reading that is both non-mimetic and non-causal. It consequently examines the a dynamic process whereby literature is always reconceived through possibilities actualised by reading while never defining how the reader will ultimately understand the overarching structure. In this context, the thesis argues that a causal story can be construed out of any one interaction with a given narrative—underscoring, for example, the divinatory strength of a particular vision of the future—even as this narrative represents only a fraction of the potential knowledge of any particular literary text. Ultimately, the study concludes by tracing out how novel comprehensions of the literary, framed by the material conditions of their own space and time, endlessly renew themselves through multiple interactions, generating analogies and speculations that facilitate the creation of new knowledge.

Cristofari, Cécile 17 June 2013 (has links)
I endeavoured to study a phenomenon underlying contemporary speculative fiction (science fiction and fantasy): the creation of a ‘secondary world', to use J.R.R. Tolkien's phrasing. I had to solve two preliminary problems. First, the cultural and economic phenomenon that speculative fiction represents has a blurry outline, questions regarding genre delimitation and wider cultural problems (is speculative fiction defined only by a number of literary patterns, or by the whole cultural apparatus that goes with it?) being difficult to answer. Secondly, does the notion secondary worlds only apply to invented worlds that are entirely different or detached from the real world, or can it be applied to texts that take place at least partly in the real world, etc.? Speculative fiction being a diverse genre that has been steadily evolving for years, I have chosen to avoid giving definitive answers to those questions. Instead of looking for boundaries, I have tried to emphasise the various building blocks of secondary worlds in speculative fiction: the traditions of the genre authors rely on to convey their view of an original universe to their readers, in a dialogue between known elements used as a foundation and the idiosyncratic view of history, geography and the place of mankind in the particular secondary world developed by the author. In an attempt to open this study to the contemporary practice of world-building, I have concluded with the questions that speculative fiction authors face today: how to renew the tropes of the genre, how speculative fiction pervades other media, in particular the practices of fans.

Dyslektický žák ve třídě na prvním stupni základní školy a možné přístupy k němu / : A Dyslexic Student in the Classroom of Primary School and Possible Approaches to him

Volková, Klára January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with approaches which can be used by a class teacher in relation to a dyslexic student. The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyze recommended approaches in relation to such students and their subsequent comparison with practical experience of teachers with whom I had a chance to talk about on this topic. At first, the main issue and the key terms which relate to this problem are clarified in the theoretical part. There is also mentioned how the teacher should behave correctly and what methods should he apply in relation to this student. The practical part is realized by a qualitative research method. On the grounds of accomplished interviews, the approaches of individual teachers are introduced in this part. The key factors which influence work with dyslexic children according to interviewed teachers are also emphasized there. Furthermore, an opinion of an expert on this topic is stated. She gives many useful pieces of advice and recommendations to teachers. Within the interviews, seven key factors which influence work with such students were analyzed. Those factors are: cooperation with student's parents, supportive tools, help, assessment, adaption of teaching to the student with dyslexia, student's personality needs and finally obstacles which make the individual...

This work has as starting point an overview on the State functions and the criteria used to distinguish one from each other. Following this, an analysis over the concepts and characteristics surrounding the notion on public policies is carried on, among which special emphasis is given to the State s commisive and ommisive programs, stability, the possibility of judicial control, the teleological element and the conditions regarding the existence of public policies, that are the political decisions, the creation of laws and the execution of technical acts. In the sequence, the judicial control over public policies is analyzed, starting from the analysis of the grounds under which the judicial control is authorized, and over the acts of the other Powers, until the constitutional basis for the control over public policies. The assessment procedural study proposed by Robert Alexy, as well as the analysis of some of the guiding constitutional principles of judicial decisions are carried on. Following this, the author studies the favorable and non-favorable arguments regarding the judicial intervention over public policies and the required compatibility between the arguments, among which the highest effectiveness of constitutional rules, the minimal existentialism, the theory of happiness, the theory of regression blockage, the possible reservation and budget issues. In terms of instruments for the effectiveness of public policies, the constitutional control, the legislative omission and the control over administrative acts are assessed. The comprehension of illegal removal powers for the effectiveness of public policies is carried out pursuant to the analysis of judicial measures of coercion, among which mandatory rulings demanding actions, the sanctioning of daily penalties, federal or state intervention and the liability of the public agents. The alternative methods for conflict s resolution are examined. Finally, an analysis over the role of the other essential judicial activities for the effectiveness of public policies is carried on. The author assesses the activities of the Public Prosecutor Office on the control over the budget implementation, as well as the available tools given for that, among which the public civil lawsuit (class action), the civil investigation, the term of adjustment of conduct and the ministry recommendation. The role of the Public Defense Office is analyzed under the standpoint of the required structuring of the career in all Federative States, as well as under the protection of the interests of careless individuals, not only in Courts, but also through a global legal orientation. On the role of the Public Advocacy, the assessment of the public attorneys behavior in taking care of such procedures, the functional independence and the orientation from the federative body for the collaboration for the effectiveness of public policies is carried on / A presente dissertação trata do controle judicial das políticas públicas e do papel das demais instituições essenciais à justiça para sua efetivação.
