Corps peuplés d'images, corps peuplant l'image : interrogation par l'art vidéo d'un entremêlement à l'ère dite postmoderne / Images inhabiting bodies, bodies inhabiting image : interrogation by video art of an intertwining at the so called postmodern era.

Beyrouthy, Damien 06 March 2015 (has links)
This thesis explores how contemporary art, more specifically video, interrogates the relationship between body and images. A close link binds them together today; video art, native to postmodern time, seems adapted to its exploration. First, influence modalities of the image are developed. The hypotheses are constructed on four sources: psychoanalytical and phenomenological theories, socials realities, artistic productions (both from known artists and from my own practice) and image theories (art history and aesthetic). A succession of conclusions have been deducted from them: today’s human seems to be inhabited by images, these participate to the structuration of perception, compete with recollection and contribute to determine the shapes of mental elaboration. Consequently, the image define significantly the postmodern body. But various relationships to images remain possible: utilization, interaction, experimentation. Then, with the oscillatory potential of video art, the interdependence between body and image is detailed. Part II compares sensible body and depicted body through the fluctuating marks of the referent in video representation – working with the appearing/disappearing, surface/thickness, sense/nonsense pairs – to explore the dreamed, lived body and the relationship to the depicted body. Part III shows the interplay between linking and delinking of the depicted body with the backgrounds – bore by chroma keying, reediting and compositing. This allows to apprehend positioning and articulation, of the body and its depiction, to images. This approach also points out what in the depicted body reveals the sensitive body and what in its articulation to the background resists: the desiring body.

Ecriture et barbarie postmoderne. Lecture poétique de la disgrâce dans « Disgrace » et « Waiting for the Barbarians » de J.M. Coetzee, « Les Ecailles du ciel » et « L’Aîné des orphelins » de Tierno Monénembo et « L’Aube » et « Le cas Sonderberg » d’Elie Wiesel

Mbanda Bakolosso, Davy Gildas 02 December 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with the unability of literary ambition to faithfully transcribe absolute barbarism. Using the poetics of disgrace, it questions the relationship between writing and extreme experience on the one hand, and brings out the narrative strategies governing the stories attempting a novelization of experiences judged unspeakable on the other. It is then a reflection on the very status of contemporary literature. The poetic analysis leads us to affirm in a first part that tales of catastrophe are built on a dilemma: the unspeakable; based on the powerlessness of rational language to name it and the necessity, despite it all, to transcend the frontiers of the “impossible to say”. And it is the reversal of the writing of disgrace into the disgrace of writing as an aesthetical means which allows this transcendence. The second part allows us to see the recurrence of some invariants presenting themselves as pertinent elements of writing. This engenders a literature of the void, of uncertainty. It is then the notion of the subject’s fragmentation which truly places our works either in western postmodern literature or in African postcolonial literature.

On blogs in the catalogue : A study of public librarians attitude towards including blogs in the library catalogue / Om bloggar i katalogen : En studie om folkbibliotekariers inställning gentemot inkludering av bloggar i bibliotekskatalogen

Ackerfors, Martin January 2016 (has links)

William Bolcom's Sonata for Violoncello and Piano (1989)

Janssen, Tido 08 1900 (has links)
Composer William Bolcom (1938-) has shown a remarkable capacity for incorporating disparate materials and combining them to create original compositions, while often using traditional genres and forms. This style has earned Bolcom the reputation as a leading composer of American postmodernism. This study provides a brief sketch of Bolcom's development as a postmodern composer, his repertoire for violoncello and piano, and it examines his compositional style as applied in his Sonata for Violoncello and Piano (1989). In the Sonata Bolcom applies a wide variety of musical vocabulary from serious and popular traditions. He juxtaposes contrasting ideas to create and resolve rhythmic, melodic and harmonic tensions and amalgamates concepts of three centuries of music history into one new integral work. All these disparate elements with classical, romantic, impressionist, expressionist, modernist and popular connotations are molded together to form a serious piece of musi c with a sense of humor. The three contrasting movements of the Sonata share many common rhythmic, melodic and harmonic traits. The movements form a congruent work of Classical and Romantic spirit, often reminiscent of Brahms' music, despite the mixed use of traditional, popular, and modernist musical languages.

Gerber, Riaan January 2014 (has links)
In this particular research project the narratives and experiences of parents within reconstituted families have been the subject of reflective thought, alluding to the possible influence of the classic fairy tale or fable on these experiences. Aspects which were touched on in the research included the general validity of discussions on parenting experiences in reconstituted families, while reflecting on these parents’ ability to confide and relate their experiences openly and frankly in a society where the nuclear family is often seen as the ‘ideal family’. Cognisance was taken too of the possibility that parents were reticent in voicing their experiences so as not to enforce prevalent generalisations. Furthermore, research was undertaken to examine alternative parenting narratives and methods by which these narratives could be heard so as to minimise misconceptions and labels on parenting in reconstituted families. Attention was also paid to the role that the church and fellow-believers and brethren have in aiding the often marginalised voice of non-nuclear families to be heard. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2015. / Practical Theology / Unrestricted

Abstract: The idea of using philosophical thinking or theories to solve individual problems, conflicts or existential crises has found followers all over the world. Starting with Gerd Achenbach in Germany, in 1981, the concept was developed in France, with Marc Sautet; in the USA, with Lou Marinoff; in Brazil, with Lucio Packter, and it has been present in other countries as well. These authors claim that Philosophy has been reduced to an intellectual production of very few, or almost no one, in the academy, and they guarantee that their proposal leads to daily use, and, therefore, takes it back to its classical roots. There are many possibilities of investigation of this new way of understanding philosophy and the professional practices that come from it. This work shows that both the concept of philosophy and the philosophers' practice expressed in a proposal of "philosophical practice" are equivocal. The underlying concept of philosophy in this proposal is as distant from Philosophy, in its Greek cultural sense, as the "therapy philosopher", "the soul doctor" or "counselor" is from the philosopher, the political educator, in the classic Greek period. / Doutorado / Filosofia e História da Educação / Doutor em Educação

Gesinsbediening as bedieningsvennootskap tussen gemeentes en gesinne

Van Staden, J.M. (Jacobus Marthinus) January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this study is to reflect on biblical-theological perspectives on the relationship between the church and families. The study is undertaken against the backdrop of the challenges facing mainline churches, of which the decline in numbers, the lack of the support for programmes and initiatives on behalf of families, and the apparent inability to minister effectively to young people, are the most pressing. At the same time modernisation and globalisation have a negative impact on the well-being of families. This study aims to contribute to interplay between the church ministry and the ministry of families. Two research questions guide this study. The first is whether Reformed churches, and for the purposes of this investigation the Dutch Reformed Church and the Netherdutch Reformed Church of Africa, do enough to support and strengthen families in a postmodern context. The second question examines the underlying theories and family ministry programmes of existing family ministry initiatives. Four sub-movements within practical theology form the methodological framework of this study. The first movement describes the crisis within the church and families today (descriptive theology). The second movement explores some normative texts of the Christian tradition (historical theology) with regard to families. At different stages of the Old and New Testament, different theological perspectives and strategies can be identified. In the post-biblical period the biological family was central to the process of the institutionalisation of the church and the spiritual aspect of family was underplayed. The challenge of the church in a postmodern world is to engage in responsible biblical theological reflection on marriage and family, and specifically the relationship between the church and families from the perspective of the kingdom of God. The third movement within practical theology brings the findings of the previous two movements into dialogue with each other (systematic theology). In the love ethic of equal regard following this dialogue, marriage is seen as a non-hierarchical, post-patriarchal, life-long bond between two people. The family is iii described as the primary context for faith formation. Although several studies suggest that family form, and not only family function, plays an important role in the well-being of children and family members, the primary concern of the church should be to develop a spirituality of marriage and family. The fourth movement (strategic theology) within practical theology is made up of two separate, but related inquiries. Firstly, different models and methods for family ministry are investigated by means of a literature study. Secondly, a qualitative study done in five selected congregations is described in order to point out the underlying theories and resulting family ministry programmes. The findings suggest that only one of the five selected congregations has an integrated, coherent family ministry model. Although several different family ministry programmes were found in practice, a critical family ethic was lacking. This is the focus of the contribution of this study. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Kruidenier, Carina Maretha (Retha) January 2014 (has links)
Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / gm2014 / Practical Theology / Unrestricted

Foundations of a Queer Natural Law

Ford, Craig A. January 2018 (has links)
Thesis advisor: James F. Keenan / The queer natural law is an ethical framework at the intersection of queer theory, queer theology, and the natural law ethical tradition largely used in Roman Catholic moral theology. As a framework, queer natural law adopts the eudaimonist, realist, and teleological emphases of the natural law virtue ethics tradition exemplified by Thomas Aquinas and restored by revisionist natural lawyers, and it refines the operations of these normative emphases through queer theory’s critical investigation of conceptual normativity. Conceived as a dynamic dialectical enterprise, queer theory offers to the natural law tradition a toolset for a more comprehensive assessment of human nature, specifically by taking a critical look at the operation of heteronormativity in normative frameworks. Symbiotically, the natural law tradition offers to queer theory a scaffold for conceiving of an ethics based in equality and nondiscrimination that allows queer theory’s ethical impulses to avoid postmodernity’s tendency towards circularity in ethical reasoning, precisely by grounding queer theory’s ethical motivations in a participatory discourse based in universal human goods. Using sexuality as a test case, this dissertation proceeds in four chapters. In the first, the notion of a queer natural law is explained in more detail. In the second, an account of human flourishing compatible with the queer natural law is articulated. In the third, a review of two natural law accounts of sexuality—magisterial and revisionist—is conducted. In the fourth and final chapter, differences between a revisionist natural law account of sexuality and a queer natural law account of sexuality are explored, defending the queer natural law thesis that the telos of sex is inter/personal pleasure. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2018. / Submitted to: Boston College. Téma úniku, nomádství a teritorializace v díle Gillese Deleuze a Michela Maffesoliho / The Theme of Escape, Nomadism and Teritorialization in the Work of Gilles Deleuze and Michel Maffesoli

Bílková, Barbora January 2018 (has links)
The thesis deals with the study of issues of escape, nomadism and territorialisation with regard to postmodern society. These concepts are explored on the basis of works by two French postmodern authors: Giles Deleuze and Michel Maffesoli. However, the analysis of seemingly similar ways of telling about these topics is to prove their considerable difference with respect to their understanding of life, world and society. In the theoretical part, the research focuses on Deleuz's concepts of becoming, multiplicity and division of space into smooth and grooved and Maffesoli's concepts of postmodern society associated with neotribalism, its desire to wander and dynamic rooting. The analytical part of the thesis is based on these concepts to interpret the documentary cycle "Kmeny", which relates to the topic of urban subculture within the Czech Republic.
